Orryn Quattlebaum |
You heard the man! Orryn says, saddling up on Stellah. The iron is hot — let us strike! Off to Eurdan Stonemantle!
GMTrex |
No, I think it was a good call to use the reroll. Was just letting you know what you were up against. :)
Stonemantle is not hard to find, having not left the Councilhouse you met him in several hours earlier. "GggreeeTings agggainnn! WhaT cannn I dooo forr you?"
Skybek Odeon |
Skybek takes another swig from his tankard, brushes out his beard and casts guidance upon himself. He then enters and tries to deliver to Eurdan Stonemantle his best speech ever.
"Greetings, Mister Stonemantle. Ahh'm Skybek Odeon at yer service and mae companions and Ahh are here tae ask fer yer help. The toon is ready tae tak doon Tygora, but it just wouldnae be the same without yae! In the name of liberty and takin doon tyranny, we ask that yae join oor cause and help us against the oppression. We've got Cayden Cailean on oor side and we cauld use yae as well! Mind yae, we cannae blether here fer long. We must act noo and catch the witch off guard!"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 = 28
Senzo Tanaka |
Senzo knows that he could never even begin to improve upon Skybek's words. The dwarf flexes his chest in anticipation.

"Yae heard the oread, we need tae try and blether with Tygmora and persuade her tae leave this place. Noo, as a dwarf, Ahh cannae say Ahh've done this much talkin since I was visitin the gatherin of the dwarven clans in Maheto last winter, but if we want tae try and save these gud folk, Ahh dannae see ana alternative. Ahh cannae believe Ahh'm saying this, but are we ready tae assault the castle and talk oor way in?"
Skybek leads him companions toward the castle.
GMTrex |
Okie dokie, here we go. Haven't seen T'Orca in a long while, so unless Sarah returns I'm going to use the four-player adjustment.
The Pathfinders head to the eastern edge of town and give a few blasts on the signal horn. Behind you, all over town, oreads rise from their work and grab whatever weapons they can before sweeping through Crystalcrag, gently subduing any ifrits they find. Shouts and clangs ring out from all across the mountainside settlement, but a sizable group of oreads also joins you on the road to the castle. Some carry pitchforks and torches, but most carry even more improvised weapons--hammers, shovels, one stony fellow even carries a heavy wooden stool.
The 500-foot road up to the gleaming bronze castle--made partly of impossibly solid brass walls and partly of sweeping towers that seem to defy gravity--makes for a short march with a group of energetic oreads at your back. As you approach the 20-foot curtain wall, sealed with a massive bronze gate, a trio of elementals (two big fiery forms and one gargantuan fountain of magma) manifest out of thin air.
One addresses you in Ignan, with short, angry staccato.
Skybek Odeon |
Although Skybek has no idea what is being said, he suspects he knows why they are angry.
"Well met, elements of fire. Forgive me for mae reply in common, but Ahh cannae understand yer fiery tongue. Ahh imagine yae're nae tae pleased tae have the oreads approach yae in such numbers, but they are nae tae pleased themselves with the amount of opressin that's going on here. If yae can understand me, Ahh wid like tae tell yae tae let us pass so that we may speak tae Tygmora. We hae a few words tae speak tae her aboot. We seek a peacefull solution, so Ahh recommend we meet at once tae sort things oot. Can yae understand what Ahh'm sayin?"

Diplomacy check!
Orryn Quattlebaum |
Orryn can aid sometimes: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Just not this time, apparently.
Right. Uh...what he said, Orryn says, clearly mystified by the use of Ignan.
GMTrex |
1d20 + 30 ⇒ (20) + 30 = 50 Yeah, there's no way you're beating that.
Totally unswayed by Skybek's words and clearly perturbed by the crowd of oreads at your back, the elementals quickly fall to combat. The magma elemental seems to flow into the ground and comes back up amid the oreads, who engage it with a newfound ferocity.
The fire elementals focus on you.
Initiative!

Harnac Lucridious |
T-rex, as I was reading the thread, as soon as I saw that Skybek was trying to diplomaticize, I was going to quaff the potion of Resist Elements: FIre the alchemist gave us, figuring battle was forthcoming. Then initiative happened before I got the chance to post. Will you allow that action pre-combat?
GMTrex |
@Hack: sure, that'd be fine!
Senzo Tanaka |
Senzo, finally finding something fun to do, gives a massive kiai and charges with a very carefully executed flying side blade kick to the nerve box on the ifrit's head (Stunning Fist and scorpion style)
1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 7 + 2 = 19
DMG: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Target owes two fort saves: DC 17 or be stunned for a round, and DC 16 or have speed reduced to 5' for 3 rounds.
When the dwarf lands, he lands in an esoteric stance known as a Crane. (Ki point to give self a +4 dodge bonus to AC for 25/24/24).
GMTrex |
The elemental completely ignores your attempt at stunning, and Fort: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 SUCCESS is also unperturbed by your attempt at reducing its maneuverability. Moreover, Senzo's kick doesn't seem to have injured it at all. And, unfortunately, Senzo's foot comes away from the strike with its toe-hair burning... Burn: 1d8 ⇒ 6 Plus a Reflex save or catch fire.
The pair moves to flank the monk, despite some oreads trying to get in their way. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27 FAIL Provokes an AoO due to your Crane stance. They then lash out with fiery fists.
Slam @ Senzo: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 12 + 2 = 22 MISS
Slam @ Senzo: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 12 + 2 = 25 HIT Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 plus Burn: 1d8 ⇒ 5 plus a Reflex save or catch fire.
Senzo's bizarre stance helps him duck one attack, but the other hits him solidly and his gi begins to catch fire...
Skybek is up! Plus two Reflex saves and an AoO from Senzo (if you wish to take it).

"Orryn, mae friend! What did yae say tae the fire beasties? They didnae tak tae kindly tae it!"
The halfling shakes his head. I agreed with you! he replies with a small smile, correctly reading the ill intent in the elementals. Must've been whatever you said in that Dwarven dialect!
GMTrex |
While Skybek goes back on firefighting duty, the magma elemental in the back gets swarmed by oreads. Several of the townsfolk run up to Senzo's aid wielding shovels and makeshift clubs, and, with stolid determination, they smack the elementals for all they're worth. Smackage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Orryn is up! Harnac, Senzo on deck.

The flying charger scores a deep wound into the elemental's flaming body, wheeling in the sky to charge again...

ROUND 1
I cannot see the map--it's entirely blacked out for me. I will trust that I'm moved to a reasonable location, flanking if possible.
Harnac charges lustily at the elementals (if I can charge at the one Orryn hit, please make that my target)
Charge Attack: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 13 + 2 = 24 (if it matters for DR purposes, this is a +2 weapon)
GMTrex |
I flipped the map to make it easier (although I'm keeping north as up, west as left, etc.). I don't believe a +2 weapon has any relevancy for DR other than magic.
Harnac charges one of the elementals and strikes while it busily lashes out at Orryn. He hits a _____ blow. Adjective dependent on a damage roll!

Hack's swing clearly damages the creature, but it's only about half as effective as he thought it should be.
The other elemental takes a swipe at Senzo as he cartwheels clumsily away... Slam: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19 MISS ... but doesn't concentrate sufficiently to aim.
The elemental change their focus to Hack, but they appear surprisingly clumsy for such graceful creatures of fire.

I love Orryn. Such a cool character.
Orryn deals the heaviest blow head, spearing the fiery creature's burning head. It's body seems close to dissipating, and it smokes heavily rather burning clean.
