You hear a gasp from above. "Ok, ok! You can stop beating it...it is out!"

Once the fight is over, Berthold Flavion,
the circus’s Master of Beasts, arrives, winded
and flushed. "What is happening? Who? Well, how did our dragon escape? What is the meaning of this?"

Some members of the crew carry the lizard

With that the circus master of beasts looks even more surprised and smiles.

"Well, that is great news. Heroes save the day and our fellow circus attendees...and what's this? Two of you are Kings of the Carnival? Splendid. You all deserve a reward for your bravery."

He digs into his pockets and hands each of several gold coins. (25gp total for the party)

There are other games on the midway. You are able to participate in any as often as you like. About 1sp seems to be the common rate.

A3. The Lovely Madame Masque

Three raised runways meet at a point like an arrow beneath
a brightly colored pavilion tent. Where the runways meet sits
a tall, rectangular box covered in mirrors. Off to one side is a
raised speaker’s podium. Posters on makeshift signs depict an
attractive woman in a provocative gown and silver mask, with
the words “The Lovely Madame Masque” in bold print.

A4. The All-Seeing Hajeck
This ragtag tent is the abode of a Varisian mystic styling
herself as the All-Seeing Hajeck. After the incident with the dragon, she is overheard complaining.
"Of all the places in the Midway, why am I located so close to the traveling zoo?"

A5. The Traveling Zoo
A portable fence of wooden posts and rope cordon off this
section of the circus. Several wagons constructed to serve as
animal cages line the perimeter, with an occasional haystack piled
between them. In the center of the area is a large tent whose wall
flaps have been lifted up and tied off to allow easy viewing.

Rebels Map

Nguyen An and August go see the mystic.

Bo'alo finds an ale vendor and a fried lizard on a stick that he sees people gnawing upon in the midway.

Kath and Morvius try to escape the lizards on a stick and duck into the tent with the Lovely Madame Masque.

Holman sneaks around trying to avoid scary clowns trying to hand him balloons.

The warriors find All-Seeing Hajeck in her booth. She asks for 1sp to tell their fortune. She deals forth a number of cards from what she calls the Harrow-deck.

"All-powerful harrow says you are great warriors, incredibly strong. I can see in your face the sign of great struggles, but you will be victors. You will achieve fame throughout the land as Pathfinders by fighting dragons and saving the downtrodden. The harrow is finished until we meet again, maybe one or two years from now. Next please."

Rebels Map

The Lovely Madame Masque

Unlike most midway games, multiple people play this one
together, forming a betting pool. The winner takes half
of the proceeds (an average of 1 sp) and the circus keeps
the other half.

A carnival barker recruits passersby "Step zhis way to make your fortune by powers zhe observation"

"I introduce to you, zhe one, zhe only Madame Masque", who emerges from the tent to wave silently at the crowd.

Madame Masque is a shapely woman in a provocative
Varisian costume gown of red and black silk held together
by ribbons. She is adorned with all manner of scarves,
necklaces, earrings, and other decorative costume pieces,
but her face is concealed by a finely crafted silver mask
showing only her playful brown eyes. She remains mute,
but nods and waves to the crowd. And winks at Kath and Morvius.

The game is simple but challenging, calling on the power of
observation. Madame Masque struts down the center runway
and poses for 1 minute, flirting silently with the crowd. She
then saunters to the mirrored cabinet, steps inside, and
closes it behind her.

The barker shouts..."Now zhe cabinet is opened to reveal three different Madame Masques."

Each figure walks down a different runway, while four
guards prevent anyone from grasping
at them. Each Madame Masque wears an entirely different
costume from the original, but one wears a single piece of
jewelry, item of clothing, or flower only the original wore.

"You have one minute to call out zhe matching item, and zhe first to correctly guess wins zhe jackpot."

August's jaw drops open as the mystic tells what she sees in the warrior's future by dealing out a few playing cards. That's amazin'! Looking to An he says it again, That's amazin'! Hell, we did mosta that already even! We're gonna be famous, An!

Rebels Map

Several in the audience shout out different ideas on what the item of clothing is, but Kath is the fastest to shout that it is her earrings.

Two of the women vanish. The remaining woman
walks back to the cabinet and Madame
Masque reemerges. Both compare the item in question,
demonstrating the game is not rigged.

Kath captures the attention of Madame Masque herself. She walks on the
runway towards Kath and slowly pulls a single scarf
or ribbon from her costume, allowing it tumble into Kath's grasp.

Onlookers regard such a winner with envy,
and Madame Masque gives the swashbuckler a final flirtatious
over-the-shoulder glance before disappearing into the tent.

People smile and head out of the tent. As you exit you notice that the afternoon is getting late and it will soon be time for the evening shows.

Rebels Map

As you leave the midway, several people notice the paper crowns and smile or wave.

You make purchases of a meal on a stick or roasted corn in a bag.

Finally, you are able to make your way through the crowded lines to get to the bigtop and the evening show.

After a few side shows and tricks, inevitably, the star attraction
is Jherizhana, the ferocious performing sphinx only
barely held under the ringmaster’s magical control.

The lights are dimmed and the large crowd goes almost totally silent.

Then the barker states "And now for the fantastic visual spectacle you have been waiting to see, the sphinx from far off lands, the incredible, Jherizhana!!!"

The sphinx you saw earlier in her cage strolls out of the darkness and into the center ring. Circus guards are stationed around the perimeter to ensure the crowd is kept at a safe distance.

The sphinx speaks with a sultry voice.

"Welcome my friends, one and all as you are our guests tonight and I do not intend to disappoint you as I love guests, especially the small tasty ones." with that she flies over the crowd and swoops down towards groups of children as if to grab one.

The families scream in fear and then delight as she does various intricate acrobatic maneuvers in mid-air. Rolling and climbing with grace. The guards keep careful watch to ensure she does not get too close to the audience. After about 15 minutes of stories of her far off land she bids you adieu.

"I am tired as this is not easy as it may look. I have a new show each night so come back tomorrow." she waves and smiles and returns to the darkness and out of the bigtop tent.

The crowd stands and applauds, hoping for an encore, but eventually leaves. The night ends with a dazzling display of fireworks and a few more snacks before people head back to their homes in town or nearby farms.
