Eloriand shouts in to the entrance to Kat, Kat, are you coming back out or do we need to come in? How many are there?

To avoid confusion later, the information about the lone human can be assumed to have been passed on to the party prior to the action starting.

Actions and Rolls:

I am holding my action until I am sure of Kat's intentions. I don't want to rush in if she is planning to come back out. As soon as she gives the word I will react.

The Exchange

Female Elf Rogue (Unchained) / 3

Her voice is a bit strained from struggling to get out of the webbing as she calls back, slightly grousing, I'm a bit tied up at the moment. And there is at least one.

Amazingly, Kat is able to wriggle free of the sticky webbing almost as it is being thrown on her. She bellows a loud warning to her fellow Pathfinders, and anyone else who might be listening. She shrugs off the last of the webs and is no longer entangled.

Eloriand shouts after Kat into the darkened room. He waits to see what exact mischief the red has gotten herself into this time. Eloriand effectively delays his action until next round and will be able to act after Kat in his normal spot in the initiative order.

Isador prompts Caoilte into action, readying his bow. He stands poised to follow Caoilte once he takes action. Isador Delays his action to wait for Caoilte. Isador's place in the initiative order is now moved to just after Caoilte.

Tarek calls upon the power of his god and touches a finger to Havelockk, tracing a holy symbol on his shoulder and speaking a whispered prayer for aid. Havelock can tell Tarek's patron is with them this day and can feel the slight surge of divine power.

Havelock approaches the darkened archway and peers into the darkness, trying to ascertain Kat's predicament. Havelock's choice to take no action this round and resume his actions at normal order next round or delay action until after Caoilte acts, moving him to dead last in the order for the duration of the combat.

Kat can hear the tell tale skittering of a very large bug type creature scrape and tick from inside the chamber. Out of the darkness Kat can see giant hairy spindly legs materialize in front of her along with 8 red eyes and fangs. The creature attempts to bite what it believed to be helpless prey only to find that Kat had slipped the webbed bonds. Though she knows creatures such as these know no real emotion, she can swear that the giant arachnid looks peeved as its bite attempt narrowly misses her, instead coming up with empty webs. It turns to eye Kat, still mostly concealed in the darkness. It's maw opens and Kat can make out giant fangs that drip a nasty looking green liquid.

Caoilte and Isador are up, possibly Havelock if he choses to act this round.

Caoilte rushes in as he hears Kat's cries. As he crosses the threshold of the chamber, he sweeps the light of his wayfinder in the room and sees the source of the trouble, a giant spider attacking Kat from the webs that litter this chamber. Caoilte also discovers that the rubble and webs make moving through the room difficult and is only able to reach the spider by climbing to Kat's left. Caoilte had to use a double move due to the difficult terrain to get to the spider's location so he is unable to attack this round. Also, if Caoilte is using the wayfinder to illuminate the room, he will be denied his shield bonus. Someone may want to carry the torch for Caoilte so to speak.

Isador follows hot on Caoilte's heels and stops in the doorway when Caoilte's light reveals the giant vermin. Isador snaps off a shot and buries a shaft into the things bulbous body.

Kat begins a series of bobbing and weaving and uses her bow to try and get as much space between her and the spider.

Eloriand draws his own wayfinder and makes his way to the chamber sword drawn. he illuminates the interior and readies himself to join the fray.

Tarek gets in ranks behind the party fighters.

Havelockk enters the room after infusing his sword with arcane power, he spies the spider after it is illuminated by Caoilte's wayfinder.

The spider reaches two long hairy legs toward Kat and tries to take another bite, but is unable to sink it's venom laden fangs into the red.

If I had my way I would just plunk it down to the west of the spider, but that does not seem likely.

Caoilite finally lets his might axe swing and it comes crashing down dead center of the arachnids head, sinking in with a sharp THOK. The thing begins to curl up in a sickening heap, prompting Caoilte to give a mighty pull on the axe, causing it to dislodge from the bug's head, bringing with it a gusher of dark ichor that momentarily showers Kat and Caoilte.

After Caoilte finishes off the spider, tarek examines the room. Up among the webs he makes out the mostly decomposed body of a dog, possibly a former member of the pack from the steps that became bug food. Upon closer examination, Tarek sees an ornate dog collar in leather studded with lapis lazuli stones. He collects the collar as it apparently holds some value at market.

The party goes on to inspect the rest of the first level of the Fortress. The floor goes on to reveal another chamber to the east that is completely empty and a thorough search reveals nothing of value. Continuing through the chamber, the party comes across the towers central staircase. As Eloriand carefully looks up the stairwell, he discovers that the stairwell is completely choked with rubble, preventing passage above and below.

A shame I did not bring another container with me. I am certain an alchemist would pay good money for that venom and some of that spider's silk on the floor.

Tarek addresses Havelockk It seems to be a dog collar of some value. I am sure the beast was a pet of some noble family. I am certain you were not inferring that my people where collars? He speaks with a hint of annoyance in his tone but continues speaking We do not adorn our animals with such finery and we rarely keep them as pets. I have little use for it and thought we could sell it when we return to town or possibly find the owner of the animal and tell him of the dog's demise. Perhaps he may offer a reward if the pet and collar were of some importance to him. Anyone is welcome to examine it if they would like or hold it if they feel I can not be trusted? Tarek reaches back in his pack and removes the collar and holds it out at arms length from his body

Kat and Elorian double check the area and determine that there are no hidden doors or other ways to the upper floors. Kat recalls that the breach which opened the tower did run up most of the tower and may have exposed other rooms.

Great! Just #$#$*% great. New armor and all splattered with crap. Caoilte shakes his head in disgust. When you think about it, it’s kind of disgusting. I’ve stood the line in a mercenary company, withstood charges of heavy cavalry. As a Pathfinder I went from smashing undead and going toe to toe with a minotaur to killing a dog and a spider. “Caoilte Bug Slayer” will be my name. Not “Bloodeye” or “Venom Horn” or something respectable.

Caoilte stops and asks. So, looks like we need to get upstairs from the outside. Unless any of you could follow the tracks through that mess back there and see where they went. He scratches his head. Let’s take a look. Y’know I could probably throw Kat up there if it isn’t too high.

Now in Cheliax, I have heard of very strange bedroom rituals where the wearing of dog collars is not only accepted...but highly encouraged. Caoilte perks up and says. If Kat can’t climb the wall maybe we just go cut a tree down and prop it up against any openings on the second floor. To Kat he says. you could climb that, right?

Eloriand continues to search the first level of the tower for signs of Balenor's tracks. He finds no evidence that Balenor, or any human, has recently explored this area of the tower.

Kat exits the tower to assess possible ways to the upper levels. Upon examing the tower further, she notices that the eastern edge, specifically the area near the breach, has created some natural foot holds that will make climbing the structure much easier than climbing the unmarred sheer walls. Kat attempts to climb the ragged edge of the walls but is unable to find adequate purchase.

After some trial and error, the party manages to put together a plan of action to climb the eastern damaged wall using combined skill and Eloriand's rope. The party successfully makes it to the second level of the tower through an opening in the eastern wall.

The party now finds itself in an empty clearing which is illuminated from the morning sun through the crack in the structure. They can make out a door to the north and a door to the south.

I will post an updated map later today, but the basic choices are to pick a door or to try and further ascend the tower via the damaged wall.

After climbing the rope Tarek assesses the situation. I think we need to explore all levels thoroughly, but it may be wise to see if the stairwell is clear on this level first. If it isn't, then we will have quite a challenge gaining entry to the levels above. I hate to see anyone lose their footing and fall from such a height. Which door do you think is best?

I agree; we should clear each level as we go to ensure that our return path is not compromised.

Before the party has had a chance to disturb any tracking evidence left behind, Eloriand makes a quick sweep of the room to see if the trail can be found again as soon as he reaches the landing ....

The red nods at Izzy's suggestion and examines both doors for any signs of traps as well as testing the locks to see if they need 'charmed'. Granted, the way my luck has been going, it might be a good idea for a second opinion just in case something is waiting to try and make a mid-morning snack out of me...

Does Eloriand still have his light on? While we didn’t get into details, I figure Eloriand and Izzy would have gone up before the stouter folks, giving Eloriand a chance to look for traps before we muck the place up.
I’m not trying to be pushy but I’m going to need you all to move aside. I’ve got to be pushing 20 stone with all this armor and gear and I’d like to get away from the crumbly edge there. Pardon me, ‘scuse me, pardon me…. Caoilte says as he works his way toward the north door. Fiddle with your tools and picks all you want but don’t forget I have a universal key Hey says while brandishing his axe.

Kat cannot help but laugh. Yeah, it is rather large, but it could be easily taken as a skeleton key.

I am guessing the layout of the tower will be the same the whole way up. The stairway entrance will be off the west room and the tower is made up of 4 rooms per level. We could break off into groups of three and then meet in the west chamber? Eloriand, Caoilte and myself can go North and Kat, Havelockk and Isador can take the south. If any of us run into trouble we will all be less than 50 feet apart at all times. If anything is in the west chamber then we will likely give it a nice surprise as we enter from both directions. I will move to wherever the group decides, just please make the decision quickly.

Caoilte turns to Tarek. What’s the rush? We sort of have a style. Kat runs off and sneaks. We wait for her to start cursing, Havelockk rubs his boxwood hilt a bunch, Izzy launches arrows that always hit but usually just nick an ear, Eloriand trips and I take my sweet a$$ time showing up. This whole splitting up idea is just bad for the program. Caoilte shrugs. Besides, say we chase something around this tower. Where’s it gonna go? Up higher? We’ll get to it eventually. Over the edge? We got enough arrow launchers around here that whatever it is ain’t getting far.

It's not so much about getting to some place quickly Tarek points a thumb, over his shoulder, in the direction of the crumbling hole in the wall It is more about getting clear of an unstable wall in a hurried manner.

As I stated, I am happy to go where the party decides. Since it seems there is nobody who takes charge in these situations and everyone is stating their opinion, I thought it was appropriate to share my thoughts on the matter.

It seems we have presented several options but still no decisive answer as to how we are proceeding. Your scout has proven her skill in getting us this far. I will accept her decisions for which way to go and give her my approval for taking the lead on scouting the remainder of the tower

Kat snorts in amusement. So far the skill I have shown this expedition is my ability to be bait.

Well, pick a door. Maybe the one to the North. The redhead will look it over, if it pleases her, and if it seems safe she’ll give us her most certain approval that nothing could possibly go wrong. I’ll ask someone to open it while I stand there and swat anything that comes through. If I see something I’ll rush it. I want it’s eyes on me, while I trust in my armor and my fellows, and whatever a female fellow is, to assist with beating the ugly to a pulp. Caoilte gives Tarek a ‘what now’ look. See, nobody in charge, a simple plan that I do what I do followed by a simple request that everybody else does what they do.
I guess I could say ‘Kat go check the door’ but she might resent that and tell me to pee up a rope. Worse she just might let me walk into something nasty. Izzy could say ‘Caoilte, lead the way’ and I just duck or step aside when the ugly comes and then his hair would get mussed.
