Badriyah Hameedah |
Badriyah feels an inner sense of disappointment upon reading the note. She knew that Torch wasn't the world's most upstanding citizen, yet she had hoped to avoid the creatures more disreputable business adventures. Alas, it seemed that was not to be, but regardless of her own feelings she would see her mission through. She wouldn't fail on her first true test for the Society. Taking a deep breath and focusing her eyes on Torch she steels her resolve and prepares herself to agree, only to pause as Belvica begins to negotiate. The simple 'yes' doesn't escape her lips. Instead her eyes turn to her companions and she waits to see what they have to say.
Thanagar Hol |
Than reads the list and considers it for moment. There is deception and theft in this list. At first he is upset but then remembers his why he is here. He is here to serve the Society, this is for the greater good not his own personal profit. After giving a silent prayer to Torag he simply decides to be still and go with his companions.
Ser Willem Dargerion |
Ser Willem frowns after reading the paper. "Interesting laundry list my old friend, but it seems that our need is great enough that we will carry out your tasks in trade for information regarding our own." Though the very thought of racketeering and outright bullying weighs heavily on him, Willem knows the significance of his current assignment.
"Well friends, what say thee? The sooner we begin, the sooner we have what we need."
Venture Teller Play b'Post |
Grandmaster Torch almost chuckles. "A Pathfinder with manners and a conscience?"
As everyone is agreed to do the tasks, where too? I just need to know which one first. Three people agree is enough to move the thread ahead.

If anyone makes this check, the party arrives within the hour. and can share the information from the spoiler below.
Ser Willem Dargerion |
Know(Local): 1d20 ⇒ 14
Ser Willem speaks up as the rest of his companions agree to find the message for Torch first. "Hundredfingers are mostly petty thieves, so they shouldn't give us much trouble. They tend to operate around the bazaar."
When they arrive, two rows of decrepit wooden shacks are separated by an alley that serves more as a filthy runnel than a pathway. Broken wooden doors do little to keep the elements or vermin out, but there is little within to steal. Few of the shacks boast more than a chair or two and several threadbare bedrolls. A woman with a basket of bottles wanders down the lane hawking salves and ointments.
"This must be the place.", he says, turning up his nose. He pulls out a gold coin. "Miss? I'm interested in more than what is in your basket.", Ser Willem says with a smile. "I'm looking for some friends, they have a message for a mutual friend of ours."

Dijinda the Geniemaster |
Knowledge, local: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Dijinda stands near Willem and smiles at the woman to whom Willem is speaking in an attempt to aid his Diplomacy with her friendly presence.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Badriyah Hameedah |
Badriyah wrinkles her nose at the smell coming from the alley as the old woman approaches. Watching Sir Willem, she makes sure her belt pouch is secured and well hidden as he approaches and greats the old woman. Feeling other the prickle of other eyes on her, she casually leans on her spear, but keeps an eye open for trouble.
"Greetings wise woman." Badriyah says politely to the woman while offering her a traditional Osirian bow. "We seek no harm or disharmony to you or your home, but merely seek your guidance as an elder of this city and neighborhood." She adds with respect.

"Friends? That must be why fine adventurers as yourselves have ventured into Beggars Alley. I have love potions, but they are much to strong for 'friends'. All my wares are strong: they can restore flesh as readily as the legendary sun orchid elixir restores youth. Would you like to buy one?" she smiles hopefully and holds up a vial that has a greenish glow.
You do not have the necessary knowledge skill to identify anything more than it is a mantis.
-Mazon- |
Mazon speaks up "Pardon me, ma'am but I noticed your necklace. May I ask what creature that is caught inside it? As she says the next sentence, she brings out Rudolph, "I'm curious because it looks similar to my friend here."
Venture Teller Play b'Post |
"I sell salves, but I might be able to help you out. Who is your friend? she asks Willem. The Thuvian woman (not Osirian) then smiles at Mazon and gives her a keen eye. "You have sharp eyes mistress. It is a praying mantis from my homeland. Do you carry anything to remind you of home?" She fingers an amber amulet with a mantis trapped inside the petrified sap. "Perhaps you would like to forget your home. I specialize in salves to aid the flesh, but sometimes the mind must be willing for the body to heal. Not very expensive, and well worth the price." She rummages through the basket and pulls out a much smaller vial, purplish in color.
-Mazon- |
"I'm sorry, I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Mazon, and Rudolph here reminds me of home. I do not wish to forget about my brother back home. We merely wish for directions to some people."

Ser Willem Dargerion |
Willem keeps an eye out for trouble as he leans in close to the woman, whispering, "You have a message for the Grandmaster?"
Venture Teller Play b'Post |
The Thuvian woman's eyes light up. "You know the Grandmaster?" she whispers back. "Of course you do. Adventurers don't come into Beggars Alley for nothing. She holds up her basket of wares. "These can restore flesh. Please. Tell me where to find him. I can help end his suffering."
Badriyah Hameedah |
Knowledge Local: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Badriyah's lips crease with a slight smile as she recognizes the mantis for what it truly is. Gracefully she steps back from the woman keeping a close watch for any sudden movements. While Mazon and her scorpion seem to have the woman's attention, she leans in close to Sire Willem and Dijinda.
"Be very careful. The woman wears the sign of the Red Mantis Assassins. I doubt she is as old and frail as she appears." She whispers quietly to each of them.
Ser Willem Dargerion |
Ser Willem's hand instinctively goes to his sword when he hears the word 'assassin', but he thinks better of it in enemy territory.
"If that is the message, then we will take your salve to him. However I think there may be more to the message. Care to share?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

"I will need to administer them. Won't you please tell me where to find him?"
since diplomacy requires a full minute of interaction only one is needed (though others have been able to aid :)
Ser Willem Dargerion |
Ser Willem cocks an eyebrow, looking at the woman, seeing if she is armed.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
"Since we know where you are, we will tell him and he will come to you, but it seems that you are not who we are looking for, so we will be on our way." He pauses briefly. "Unless, that is, you have something else to tell us."

Like almost everyone in the city she wears a sheath at her side. Hers carries a shortsword. Her hands are currently mostly occupied with the basket of salves.
"If you are not interested in my salves, then I have nothing more for you. Have a nice day." She bows her head in farewell. She moves off and rejoins the crowd hoping to sell some of her 'miraculous' salves.

If by unusual you mean people breaking apart stalls, tearing down shacks, pushing over tent poles and causing a dozen halflings and young children to break from hiding and begin running. Yes. Shortly after the woman leaves and before you can find anyone else to question, thugs break into Beggars Alley and begin doing just that.
You have a moment between the salve merchant leaving and the thugs terrorizing if you want to do stuff.
Badriyah Hameedah |
"I wonder if these men are the 'loose ends' that Master Torch mentioned." Badriyah says while bringing her spear around and stepping back into a defensive pose.
