Castien Galondiir |
Castien steps forward and fires and arrow at the nearby skeleton.
Move action: As indicated on map
Standard action: Fire arrow at skeleton 4
Attack (Composite Longbow, Point Blank Shot, Firing Into Melee): 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 1 - 4 = 22
Damage (Composite Longbow (Blunt Arrow), Point Blank Shot): 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 1 = 11
Aramil Sionadel |
Aramil will move towards the last standing skeleton and attack with his sawtooth sabre.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Confirm crit.: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
GM Beman |
The final skeletons crumble into a heap of bones courtesy of our Pathfinders.
Among the fallen bodies, you find a note written by the dhampir that details plans to start an army of undead made from the “fish people” who have been frequenting this cave. You also find a quiver containing 20 +1 arrows, and a suit of +1 studded leather armor.
Castien: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Caith: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Wembly: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Benelvolence: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3
Aramil: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Castien Galondiir |
Wow, those are some horrible perception rolls...
Castien's eyes grow wide when he realizes what they've found. "Anyone m-m-mind if I t-take those arrows?"
Assuming no objections...
Castien gathers the arrows and places them almost reverently in his quiver, then nods to the others that he is ready to continue.
Caith Skullcrusher |
"Ya can 'ake the armor, I already got this nice cloak to keep me warm at night. 'sides..me own armor's got these nice spikes on it which I'm rather fond off."
There doesn't seem to be an exit from this room..back to the main room and take the other exit and see where that leads?"
GM Beman |
1d6 ⇒ 3
After dispensing with the skeletons you double back to holy site and see that Uori had returned to his deep meditative state. You are careful not to disturb him as you move to the passage leading from the opposite side of the chamber. It rangesfrom 3 to 6 feet wide and is coated with the omnipresent bioluminescent fungi; The persistent glow of which dimly lights the way deeper below the Kortos Mounts. The tunnels broaden to reveal a shallow river that bisects an immense tunnel stretching to the north and south. To the east a small passage exits the chamber at a steep incline.
The river ranges from 10 to 15 feet wide but doesn't look more than a foot deep. It flows languidly at an almost imperceptibly slow speed. Treat squares with water as if they were a shallow bog.
Two kobolds can be seen on the other side of the river inspecting the tunnel that leads to the surface.
If a square is part of a shallow bog, it has deep mud or standing water of about 1 foot in depth. It costs 2 squares of movement to move into a square with a shallow bog, and the DC of Acrobatics checks in such a square increases by 2.
Castien Galondiir |
Well, for when the surprise round happens...
Castien nocks an arrow, steps out from behind Benevolence, and lets it fly at the nearest kobold.
Attack (Composite Longbow, +1 Arrow): 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 = 27
Damage (Composite Longbow, +1 Arrow): 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 = 7
Critical Confirm (Composite Longbow, +1 Arrow): 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 1 = 18
Critical Damage (Composite Longbow, +1 Arrow): 2d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5, 7) + 4 + 2 = 18
Wembly Templeton |
I hope all is well and your wife has a speedy recovery, Rob
The gnome urges Whiskers forward quietly and will shoot his crossbow at the other kobold.
Wembly crossbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 for dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 1
GM Beman |
Enthralled by their inspection of the cavern walls, the kobolds don't realize the Pathfinders are upon them until its too late. The lead kobold draws his weapon at the sight of Castien and charges toward him menancingly...until he realizes he has an arrow sized hole through his chest. He collapses on the ground in horror as his companion throws his weapon down and surrenders.
Aramil Sionadel |
Aramil approaches the cowering kobald with his weapon drawn and says to it in draconic.
Aramil Sionadel |
Aramil hisses in reply.
Bluff: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
GM Beman |
The kobold backs away slowly and doesn't turn to run until he reaches the tunnel leading upwards out of the cavern. As he flees you hear feint sounds of combat and can make out Janira's voice half-shouting and half-reciting, “As the legendary Gregaro Voth successfully battled the wild beasts in the deepest reaches of the Mwangi Expanse, so shall I defeat you, foul servant of Lamashtu!”
Wembly Templeton |
Wembly follows the others riding his planar cat.
"Yep. Sounds like she got the better of whatever it was that was chasing her. . "
GM Beman |
Following the sound of Janira's voice you dash down the tunnel and emerge into a 40-foot clearing at the base of the Kortos Mounts. The light of the surface world above provides a welcome reprieve from the blue and green fungus of the caverns below, and illuminates a stream whose water is hastened by runoff from a recent storm further up the mountains. A ledge to the west rises up to the nearby forest canopy. The full moon provides dim light over the entire area.
On the far side of the stream, Janira Gavix is locked in combat with her relentless minotaur foe in a clearing on the southern bank of the stream.
“You vile beast!" Janira shouts defiantly. "I know not what drives your black heart, but I shall not fail in my duty. I shall see you driven from this forest, back to the hills from whence you came!”
Janira steps back and lashes out with her whip, wrapping it around the minotaur's axe. She pulls, but the monster roars and pull its weapon free.
1. The patches of woodland are also filled with underbrush that behaves as light undergrowth, creating difficult terrain and concealment.
2. The trees are only a few decades old and do not completely occupy their respective squares. A creature that shares a space with one or more trees benefits from partial cover.
3. The stream moves downstream from east to west at a brisk pace and is considered rough water, which will require a Swim check to navigate.
4. A 3-foot-diameter tree truck spans the width of the river, creating an impromptu bridge. The trunk is slippery from the splashing water, and crossing it at half speed requires a DC 7 Acrobatics check, during which time the creature is treated as flatfooted for moving on a narrow surface. If the creature fails this check, it falls into the water unless it succeeds at a DC 13 Reflex save, in which case it lands prone on the trunk instead.
5. The slope to the west gradually rises to a height of 20 feet, and creatures standing at its highest point benefit from both a commanding view of the battlefield and a clear vantage point for ranged attacks.

Aramil Sionadel |
Not really wanting to fight a minotaur , but knowing that it would look bad in the report if Janira died, Aramil sighs as he thinks to himself "I suppose I would rather incur the wrath of this stupid beast than that of Master Shaine."
With that, Aramil will make a double-move towards the log.
Castien Galondiir |
Seeing the huge beast, Castien quickly judges the distance between them and lets loose two arrows.
Attack (Composite Longbow, +1 Arrow, Inspire Courage, Rapid Shot): 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 13
Damage (Composite Longbow, +1 Arrow, Inspire Courage): 1d8 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 + 1 = 5
Attack (Composite Longbow, +1 Arrow, Inspire Courage, Rapid Shot): 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 24
Damage (Composite Longbow, +1 Arrow, Inspire Courage): 1d8 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 + 1 = 5
Wembly Templeton |
Wembly and Whiskers will ride (double-move) up to the edge of the river and the gnome will call out.
"Leave her alone you big brute!"
GM Beman |
Castien fires two arrows at the minotaur...the second hits the beast squarely in the flank. As the others close the distance between themselves and the battle Janira reaches into her bag of tricks and throws a small pouch in the minotaur's direction. The trick works, the entangled creature finds it difficult to maneuver...but not impossible. It raises its heavy axe and brings it down on Janira. The sticky goo from the tanglefoot bag slows the swing just enough to spare the bard her life.
Next Round Bardic Courage (+1 hit & damage)

Janira
Minotaur (-5hp, -2ATK, -4DEX)

Minotaur's Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Minotaur's Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Aramil Sionadel |
Aramil hops onto the log and nimbly makes his way (at half speed) to the other side.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Also, it occurs to me that we have a free potion of barkskin available from Janira's bag. Did we ever decide who was carrying that? If not, would it be possible for me to have taken it, or would that be too convenient given that we're in the middle of combat?
Castien Galondiir |
Castien moves closer to the minotaur, but stops to fire another arrow.
Move action: As indicated on the map
Standard action: Attack Minotaur
Attack (Composite Longbow, +1 Arrow, Inspire Courage): 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 22

Benevolence |
Don't forget about bless!
Benevolence will move up and heavenly words will flow out of her mouth.
Casting Guidance on Castien
Caith Skullcrusher |
Caith moves up behind Aramil, he's having a bit of trouble with trying to stay on top of the tree...but he manages to not fall off into the water....for now at least.
Acrobatics to move over the tree: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (14) - 3 = 11
Wembly Templeton |
Wembley has the planar cat jump the river to (single) move closer so he can cast a spell.
jump: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 DC10?
Once the cat stops, he will cast a spell of grease on the minotaur's axe handle.
"We said leave her be!"
DC 15 reflex to drop weapon. Let me know if the jump etc is not possible as positioned.
GM Beman |
As the Pathfinders close in Janira, clearly fatigued and without much more fight, withdraws toward Wembly. The minotaur feels the axe slip a bit in its grip but manages to hold on.
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Finding it difficult to move due the effects of the tanglefoot bag, the minotaur lumbers forward slowly before stopping within reach of Wembly and Whiskers. He swings his mighty axe trying to cut the cat from underneath the gnome; its compromised grip and slowed swing spare the cat its existence.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7, Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 5) + 3 = 12
Next Round Bardic Courage (+1 hit & damage)

Reflex save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14 +1 from the cloak we found
and barely manages to hold on to the tree before falling off.
Castien Galondiir |
Castien takes another step closer to the minotaur and lets fly two more arrows.
