Almalik Fezana |
What the... these are not particularly valuable wands!
"They're right here! Want them back?" cries Almalik, holding a wand in each hand.
If the undead creature is set on violence, Almalik will cast enlarge person on Fish using the wand and 5' step north and then move against hte east wall. If the undead creature responds to the wands in a non-violent way I'll respond accordingly ;)
Fish Silverscale |
Enlarge person is a full round spell even with the wand. You'll have to poke Fish with it at the start of your next turn.
Fish steps forward as the undead thing starts casting and attempts to hit it with the magic shield.
Shield spike: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Damage: 3d3 ⇒ (3, 3, 1) = 7
He will then hold the shield up to the Cubris
Ama |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
"Mister dead one, would you consider lying back down in your sleeping box?" Ama politely asks. "It's so we can close it again, you see. 'Cause your behavior is very off-putting."
GM Dinuci |
@Almalik It might not be that clear on the map but the chests are on tables. Meaning you are on a table ;P You may still decide what you are going to do with your turn.
The dead king faces Almalik and spits the following words out.
"You will not leave here alive. You will betray me!"
As he turns his head around everyone notices a circlet on his head. The circlet has a rune on the front of it, matching the one in the oasis.
Fish tries to stab the dead king in the legs but misses. He continues to cast the spell and ignores Ama. The Cubis attacks Fish with all its limbs and does not manage to land a single hit. A split second later, something the group hadn't noticed before, the blue statue raises its sword and bring it down on the Cubis. The statue hits the Cubis full in the back and does quite a bit of damage.
Round 1:
- Dead king
- Almalik

GM, has it been less than two minutes since the last melee? That is to ask, is any of the DR left?
"What you mean, mister dead person? We no betray nobody! We helps people! Helps people!"
Energy Splash (RTA Ray): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Bah!
Damage (Fire): 1d2 ⇒ 2
Almalik Fezana |
Undead are immune to illusions, burning hands may work out. I'd like to enlarge Fish but he's a little inaccessible. Well, let's try another arc.
"Ama, out of my way!"
If AMa moves, Almalik will fire an arc of flame at the dead king.
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Reflex save DC 13 for half.
Dinuci |
@ Nagbur Seeing how Fish likes to rush I think some rounds may be left. Have added them to the list.
@Almalik You just climbed on top of the chest instead of off the table xD
Nagbur throw his small ball of flame but it goes wide and leaves a scorch mark on the ceiling. Almalik fires another flame arc and hits the dead king.
Assuming Ama moved of course.
Round 1:

Ama doesn't need to move I just noticed. Almalik is standing on top of the chest, above Ama.
Ama |
Ama drops her backpack so she can move faster, moving into the sarcophagus with the undead king. She raises her nodachi and swings it at the undead. "Give me that circlet! It's pretty!"
Nodachi: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 2H damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

GM Dinuci |
Missed the post yesterday! Hence my late response :(
Ama swings and hits the skeleton. The sword skids of the bones and leaves only a small crack in one of its ribs. The green statue suddenly also comes to life. It moves forward and brings its sword down on the Cubis. The sword connects and the Cubis drops dead to the ground. The dead king finishes his spell and another Cubis appears in front of him.
Same spot as before.
He steps back and starts another spell. The Cubis starts attacking Fish in the meanwhile. One of the claws and its bite attack connect.

Nagbur Damnstink |
Not having a clear line of fire to the undead magician, Nagbur takes a step back from the action and reaches out mentally to aid Fish.
Manifesting Natural Healing. Fish regains 3 HP.
Ama |
Shouldn't the skeleton king need to make a concentration check to prevent messing up his spell every tiem he takes damage? That'd be 10 + damage dealt + spell level for each time he takes damage.
Ama wildly swings her sword in the air after taking a 5-foot step toward the undead king.
Nodachi: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 2H damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

GM Dinuci |
@Ama I forgot to do that in the first post, rolled a dice at home to check if he would make it and he did :)
@Fish I couldn't find a path you could have taken without passing the Cubis.
Nagbur heals the injured Fish before he walks past the Cubis to get to the king. The Cubis swings at Fish in his passing and manages a hit on him. Fish ignores the wound and attacks the dead king hitting him and knocking out one of his ribs. The dead king loses his concentration and his spell fails. You can see him looking around frantically for a way out. Ama tries to hit the king also but fails in her attempt.

Ama |
Bummer, I'd hoped he'd fail at least one of those two checks :P
"Go, 'Malik! Go go go!" Ama cheers, raising her nodachi as high as she can. "Woohoo!"
Almalik Fezana |
Almalik charges up, switching the wands in his hand before he fires off a spell of burning hands which flames over the dead king!
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
I have the cone AoE template to show Ama doesn't get hit. I don't know the caster level of the wand, but assume level 1. I also doubt I can use my arcane reservoir to bump up the spell level. But if I can, I will!
GM Dinuci |
Almalik fires the wand and hits the dead king for the full damage, he also scorches the whole wall. The statues come into life again and both attack the Cubis in front of them. The Cubis manages to dodge one of the attacks but the other one hits it.
The dead king takes a step back and starts summoning again. The Cubis in the meanwhile attacks Fish but luckily none of the attacks land.

Nagbur Damnstink |
Nagbur watches the scene, confused that the statues are apparently fighting on the party's side, and concerned about Fish still having the Cubis's attention. Deciding to step things up a notch, he pulls out a wand (MA) and uses it on himself. (SA)
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Well, at least it's better than 3.
At the same time, his eyes narrow as he focuses on Fish.
Using Collective Healing to reroute the healing from the wand (FA). Fish regains another 5 HP.
Ama |
Ama steps out of the sarcophagus and attacks the undead king again. "Woohoo!"
Nodachi: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 2H damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

GM Dinuci |
Ama swings and hits true, Almalik finishes the job. The dead king falls into a heap of bones and is no more. The statues move unison again and make a short job of the Cubis. They move back to their original positions and stay still again.
Combat over!

Nagbur Damnstink |
"Yay!" cries Nagbur. He cautiously approaches one of the statues. "These no like cubis. Can we take one with?"
Almalik Fezana |
Almalik flips the wand in hand and stows it in his belt.
"All that fuss for a couple of wands; these dead kings have no decorum. I also appreciate the statues. I'm curious about how this all works. We saw some sort of leader figure in the sandstorm and the King was summoning the cubis. It must be all linked."
Almalik casts detect magic once more and investigates the body of the dead king.
Ama |
Ama snatches the king's circlet from his corpse and quickly places it on her head. With a loud voice she declares "I wear a shiny thingy on my head! Thus I am pretty!"
GM Dinuci |
Almalik scans the corpse and finds the same defensive aura on the circlet as on the standing stone in the oasis. Ama immediately snatches up the circlet and puts it on her head. Nothing happens.
The corpse of the dead king has some small jewellery on it but nothing special.
By now the sun has left the skies and it is freezing cold outside.
Your choice:
1. I forward to the next place you want to go. (I get the idea the travelling is getting a bit boring ;P)
2. You may test the circlet during one of the nights.
3. We travel to the next destination rolling survival (Not my first choice!)
The destinations left on the list are:
- The old village
- The last cross on the map
- Your end destination
Ama |
I vote 1: momentarily pass up on Old Village to 1st visit the next cross and retrieve another item (probably). But only after a very quick 2 :P
Ama sneaks out of the building when its night and waits for a cubis to appear.
"Hey skinny boy! Over here!" Ama sticks her tongue out if a cubis happens to appear.
Almalik, please stand ready with an illusion. Nagbur and Fish, please stay back :)
Fish Silverscale |
While the others are distracted with the circlet Fish speaks up. "It is very shiny, but Fish still hurt from Cubis. Also Fish wants fire stick now he know it not just stick."
Currently at 13/20
Nagbur Damnstink |
Your stats line says 20/20 :op
"Nagbur help with that," says the vitalist, using the wand on himself and redirecting the healing to his friend. (Via Collective Healing.)
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 Fish is back to normal.
"There, you be full up now!"
GM Dinuci |
Just at the edge of her vision Ama is able to see a white speck against the darkness of the night. All stays quiet for a moment and there is suddenly a Cubis in between her and the white speck. It starts running towards her.
Round 1:
- Nagbur
- Almalik
- Cubis
- Ama
- Fish

Initiative Almalik: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Initiative Ama: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Initiative Fish: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Initiative Nagbur: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Initiative Cubis: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Nagbur Damnstink |
Is this when Ama "sneaks out" to test the circlet? If so would anyone other than Almalik -- who she specifically asked to stand by -- be there? She also asked the height-challenged among us to stay out of it, but I can't see "armoring" her mattering to her plans, so Stinky will give her DR 2/- for two minutes.
GM Dinuci |
Yes, wanted to do only Ama and the Cubis but that would exclude you guys completely which would be kind of weird if Almalik has to jump in. I will assume you will keep out of the fight. But I put your names there just in case you wanted to do something. :)
Almalik Fezana |
Sorry I'm here! Ama has indicated she wants Almalik nearby so he will be. Experimentation is his bag!
"Ugh, fine. Stay still!"
Almalik casts minor image, creating the image of the building's blank wall to protect Ama and himself.
GM Dinuci |
Nagbur gives Ama damage resistance and Almalik protects the tomb with a illusion.
Placed the illusion on the map, didn't include Ama in it for the reason of her wanting to fight the Cubis.
The Cubis runs towards Ama and ends up just in front of her, tongue lolling out of its mouth.
Round 2:
- Nagbur
- Almalik
- Cubis
- Ama
- Fish
In bold may act!
Ama |
Ama watches quietly as the cubis starts running towards her. Click link to see what I imagined seeing the running cubis looked like xD
The cubis stops in front of Ama, its tongue lolling out of its mouth. Ama stares back at it, curious to see if it'll attack her if she takes no hostile actions. Delaying.
If the cubis doesn't attack her, Ama will walk up to it to test if it can even be close to her. She remembers the standing stone in the oasis and how it created a dome the cubis back then couldn't enter.
GM Dinuci |
The Cubis attacks Ama and is met by the same sort of shield as the oasis. The sound of a small explosion is heard as one of its claws smash against the invisible shield. The moment the claw connects a dim lighted outline can be seen, the shield follows the shape of Ama's body.
We are moving away from the standard battle format here. It will take quite a while to get things through that way :)
Ama |
Ama draws her nodachi and attacks the cubis.
Nodachi: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Confirm crit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
If the critical hit would otherwise not confirm, Ama manipulates time to increase its chance to confirm.
Add to confirmation attack roll, only if necessary: 1d4 ⇒ 4
GM Dinuci |
Ama swings her sword and adds one of her motes to give that last bit of extra force to her attack. The attack lands and she rips open the stomach of the creature. It falls dead to the ground with a solid thud.
Combat over!
That was one hell of an attack... You should do that more often :P
The circlet shields the bearer from contact with a Cubis, just like protection from evil.
Will post again later this day!
Almalik Fezana |
Almalik beams delightedly and claps Ama on the back.
"A fantastic test, we need to use human or... whatever you are subjects more frequently when determining how the cubis work."
Ama |
Ama sheaths her nodachi and smiles brightly at Almalik. "This circlet makes me pretty!"
She then goes to retrieve her backpack.
Ready to move on. Shall we go to the next cross first, and visit the old village afterward?
Nagbur Damnstink |
Nagbur's jaw goes slack as he watches Ama slice the cubis to bits.
"Wow, why you no fight like that all the time!"
GM Dinuci |
You start your travels again. Now deeper into the desert the encounters with the Cubis get more often. After the first day you get the feeling you are being followed. You get the feeling that the darkness is getting closer to you. During the nights you are able to see a white speck on the horizon, never moving but always there.
The fifth night you screaming, it sounds like a young girl and boy. Sound carries very far in the desert and you think it must come from the village you are passing. When you poke your head outside you see a fire some distance off. You are now also able to see small buildings. The white speck is nowhere to be seen this night.
Almalik Fezana |
Swapping out enlarge person for grease.
Almalik groans and tries to roll over.
"I suppose we're going to go over there."
