I "lied" I'm not available Wednesday morning. I have a USCIS Naturalization seminar to go to. (I've got kind of a weird job.) Forgot I'd registered for the event.

I think they meant consistent schedule, not over the next few days. I myself can make both days fine, as long as it's not really early or late.

Oh, thought this was for a pre-session session. I mean, of course I'm available Thursday evening which was the decided upon time of the online RPG.

MJ, Firebottomstik's writer here ... Okay, I'm a little confused. Who's character is whose?
@ Kytanos - I didn't even think you had a character written up as of 6 pm tonight. How are you and your fiancee in on the game?
@ PoisonToast & AllRedTie - What are your characters? I'm not seeing an Alias for either of you.
AllRedTie |
Just because someone hasn't posted in the discussion thread doesn't necessarily mean they weren't accepted. It could be that they just haven't been online since the DM sent out PMs.
As for my character, it's the same one in the application thread. It's the inquisitor. I didn't know about the alias thing on this forum until after I had already finished writing up the character sheet in pdf format. The DM accepted and approved that instead. Sorry if that made it confusing.
kytanos |
Was just waiting to see who all posted. So that makes everyone then, good.
I will say what I want most out of the game, consistency. I strongly desire a coherent party and genre. Be it steampunk golarion adventures, dark warhammer fantasy style, whatever. as stated once on skype, I don't like it when you mix up naruto and Ned stark in the same party.
Considering the gm has left us with very little actual framework, and now we have everyone who's playing. I feel it's time to discuss exactly what kind of game we will be playing. I know everyone but me has an official character ready to play, hell I actually had a character ready to go. That's fine, but please try to think how your character fit's in with the party and the story the gm plans to tell.
Remember this is our gamemaster's first time, and I will be the first to say I think he made a mistake in asking for characters far too soon. Before we even knew who was playing or what they wanted as players.
PoisonToast |
I don't think a theme matters when a party is concerned. As long as everyone is playing what they want, and its believable that we would be working together I don't really care.
When writing the back story make sure it fit in the world, but I really don't care if someone plays a ninja character class. In the grand scheme of things its not going to change the theme of the game what classes we pick as long as we role play within the confines of the world that Zackman provides.
In my opinion the DM's job is to convey the theme of the world, our job is to convey our characters within that theme with our own flare. If we, as players, do anything more we are overstepping our bounds and possibly ruining another player's experience. Just play the character you want.
If all our back stories are within the theme of the world the party will mesh together just fine.
AllRedTie |
You say that we should think of how our characters fit in with the party, but then criticize the DM for having us make characters already? Without characters there isn't a party in the first place, unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean.
Steampunk isn't a genre, it's a setting. That's the world the DM has put us in. Emerging steampunk, more appropriately. If one takes the time to read into the information the DM has given us so far, you can extrapolate a general tone for the campaign.
The 300 years of history convey a prophecy for the end of the world, political tensions, and war, among other details. To me that says that the world itself has serious events happening. The DM has also told us we're all meeting on Absalom, which gives us a specific location from the Pathfinder setting that we can read up more on.
All we don't know is what happens next. That's what you seem to be confused about - how are we supposed to roleplay future events. As far as I'm concerned, we each make a character that makes sense within the world then we have to figure out how to make them work as a party. That's what they'd have to do if they were real people getting together.
My character is a half-elf inquisitor of Aroden and we've also got a goblin alchemist. Not sure how to make my character fit in with a non-existent party as of right now. If it was just the two of us, then I'd say my character would see the goblin and perceive him as some stereotypical goblin troublemaker who managed to sneak into the city. He'd track him down and attempt to arrest him under charges of suspicion, listen to his story, and then recruit the goblin to help him find a real criminal to prove his innocence. There you go, a way to get them together off the top of my head.
PoisonToast |
That's my point. AllRedTie is right.
I will either be playing a Kellid Druid (Saurian Shaman) Who spent time in the Mediogaltian jungle observing and taming dinosaurs. He has come back and Absolom is his first stop. He eventually wants to make his way back to his clan, but is not really in a hurry for personal reasons.
Or a Azlanti (From Taldan) Summoner who is determined to find his Azlanti Ancestors legendary family tomb and claim his families lost legacy.
The last character I made is Dwarven Ranger (Trapmaster) that is traveling the world for fame and fortune, mainly fortune.
Each of these could fit into a party composed of about anyone. The reason I haven't picked who I want yet is because I'm not sure what kytanos is playing. I don't want to play a class someone already is, especially when I have 7 different characters already made with backs stories, ready to go.
Zachman08 |
Ok sorry I'm a bit late to the party(pun intended) but I'm going to set all this straight right now
Make whatever character you want, you want to make a dark character go ahead, you wanna make a goofy character go ahead. A party works best when their all not the same person.
@firestix I talked to both kytanos and poisontoast before the selection was up. Poisontoast stated he was willing to play anything the party was lacking. Kytanos gave me a character before hand and I asked him to modify it and he didn't want to fully flesh it out if he wasn't in the game. Both seemed like cool dudes so I let them both in.
If you still believe we need to meet as a group for a presession we can meet this Thursday and start the campaign next week.
If anybody is getting second thoughts about the campaign, nothing is set in stone yet so you can back out with no hard feelings
PoisonToast |
I'm still game. I have talked with everyone involved for the last few days except for MJinthePitt. I have good feeling about everyone and the game. Just after hearing most of the character concepts so far I'm excited to start Rollin Bones. I'm ready to go whenever.

Zach, Thursday evening sounds great to meet up on Skype to try everything out and see if we've all got Maptools installed right. If you can let us know what version you're running then I can get it set up on my PC. Like I said earlier, I'll be running Maptools on one machine and Skype on another. This will be my first time installing and running Maptools so I want to make sure I don't screw anything up.
@ kytanos - I'll admit I've only been on these boards for a short time but every recruitment thread I've seen the GM asks for a character concept, statblock, and backstory and then makes a decision on who he wants to play from there. I created the character I wanted to play in Zach's setting and he felt it was appropriate. If Firebottomstik's personality changes as a part of RP that's one thing but I've got the character I want at this point and Zach has already read the backstory and therefore has some insight into his personality.

To be honest I want to start playing on Thursday if Zackman and everyone are up to it. It seems everyone is free Thursday. We can meet a bit earlier and hash out all the mechanical details with maps tools and get the final OK on our characters and then jump right in.

I'm up for it if someone just let's me know what's what with MapTool.

Working on it, it's difficult for me to generate characters. I would normally use the setting and make a character tied into one the nations near the main area of play, however too much has changed. Additionally everyone seems to be aiming for something weirder or notable (a saurian shamen, two headed exotic race, and a goblin) and given my preferences I typicly go for inhuman characters. However the party seems full up on that which is creating additional difficulties. (also added you on skype MJ)
(Edit: Had a character, just got shot down)
MJinthePitt |
I wouldn't say I was "aiming" for a weird or notable character.
Zach's campaign setting is steampunk placed into the future of the current PF timeline. To me an alchemist class is a little more advanced technology wise than the classic classes offered in the core rules. Plus in my own tabletop homebrew one of the underlying themes I'm going to be trying to work on is integrating some of the "villian" creature races into regular society - goblins being one of them.
So because of that I coupled the two together - class and race - and ended up with Firebottomstik.
Saw you added me on Skype, I didn't realize I had it logged on. I'd just pulled it up to confirm my user name.

I've never used Maptool before, but does the version really matter? How's that supposed to work out if you're in multiple games using different versions? The one I downloaded was just the most recent version.
From what I read on the website, you're supposed to be at the same version as your GM.
