"It would prove a safer journey I suppose,... We won't burden you after we reach the next town." Zul Feron replies. His gnarled staff of a walking stick in one hand he stands tall for a stretch. Elrosk finishes packing the tents and supplies in a bigger backpack, easily slingin it over his shoulders. He pulls out Rammy, "Elrosk good to go too!"

With the movement you notice the birds' chirping becomes fronted as you can guess they sly away from you all. Clearly spooked by the movement of everyone waking for the day. "I'd been thinking about those footprints as well Lysanthir. Whomever it was didn't take anything, they just seemed to walk around... "

"Similar to my thoughts as well... Unlike the bugbear, they seemed to be either more intelligent, or looking for something perhaps?" Zul guesses.

You hear the birds singing back and fourth to one another. The footprints from the night before are just mere indents now. The mossy, muddy and grassy areas of ground have since bounced back making it harder to see a footprint here and there. If not for the keen perception of the night before you'd have looked over them now. As you listen you can hear a stream in the distance, the sound of the breeze pushing aside leaves, and wildlife made the view of this grove all the more serene.

Lys gazes out the side of her eyes at Zul
"And what could it be looking for? Regardless intelligent, larger than Elrosk, potentially stealthy. Lets hope its alone, friendly, or doesn't show. "

"Like a trapped rat, it's only truly dangerous when it goes silent" Zul explains, "Right now, staying here might not be the best option in the case it comes back" Whatever it was had to be of some intelligence he thought to himself... otherwise why wouldn't it have taken their food? their possessions?....

"Curious indeed" He smiles at Lys.

"I have learned, that the only way to defeat a unknown creature... is to BURN it..."

Avdol follows the group, staying somewhat in the center.

Avdol get a humorous look from Zul as he smirks at his statement.

As each of you travel you get that sixth sense feeling that someone or something is watching you. But this time it feels as if it has a more maleficent than before. The anticipation begins playing tricks with your minds as you continue through the forest but no one and nothing is seen when you check over your shoulders.

The party make their way out f the forest and back into the road a little ways down from where they'd entered the previous night. Sun rays beam down from spotty patches in the canopy and a nice breeze carries a soothing touch and the smell of the lake.

Zul Feron turns towards the others while walking casually down the path, "No need to rush the inevitable Akari,... You might regret your words one day. Have patience..."

Elrosk adds, "Rammy has patients.... We should all aspire to be like Rammy..."

Zul looks to Elrosk now with a raised brow, "how do you know what aspire means Elrosk?"

"Rammy told him" Elrosk answers not missing a beat and continues taking Orc sized strides with the party.

The party occasionally hears a noise that they overreact to only to find it was a squirrel, bird or the breeze gusting just enough to make the shrubbery seem inhabited. A mile or so down the road more of the canopy overhead begins to open up, a large Boulder sits in the middle of the roadway with the path circling around it and continuing on the opposite side. To the left of this trail you all notice that there is a less traveled roadway leading up a slight incline (3 degree incline). Even though it is less traveled it is still obviously traveled semi often.

A little ways up this new roadway you see a low hanging branch with a ripped piece of cloth clinging to it. It wriggles from the breeze and is badly torn and semi wet still.

"... That can't be good, " Zul whispers.

You notice human footprint dug into the soft ground, as well as the strange humanoid footprints you see. At the camp and roadside. You follow the footprints up the way with your eyes and see a pair of feet and part of a person's calves sticking out into the roadway. The rest of the body is blocked by the trees, taller grass and shrubbery, or so it is assumed.

Gabriel walks carefully near the body to inspect it.

"He is dead, may the Lord have mercy on him... he was clawed to death, or it seems... I'm no doctor." he turns to the rest "Everybody stay alert, we may be facing a serious danger here. The light be with you!" and he tries to drag the corpse near the rest to examine it better.

The body isn't much for you to drag, weighing around 150. Blood is pooled up around his stomach and chest area where you see the deep gouges. Rigamortis has already taken effect, and there are places where the blood has congealed. The man is clearly a human, he is shirtless and one hand is clenched tight with a golden chain hanging out of it.

[spoiler=Lysanthir] you are completely baffled... You don't have the slightest clue as to what could have done this. Whatever did, had sharp claws. There are no signs of the claws having trouble cutting through this man like butter.

Zul stand there, a hand held out result as he awaits the others' return. He and Elrosk exchange looks nodding in unison while pressing a finger to their lips. Both seem on high alert attempting to hear everything and anything.

Avdol looks to Lys with a quizzical expression. "Why do you distrust them so? I've seen no indication to be such a way towards them."

He then turns his attention to Gabriel, "I rather don't care either way, though it is certainly tragic for such a soul to be sliced open in such a manner, think about it this way. The body isn't eaten in any way. This means that whatever killed this man didn't kill for food, it killed for the thrill. What I'm trying to say Gabriel is it's probably best if we just continue on our way. Whatever it was will find us. There's no need to enter deeper into the forest and then get ambushed on its terms."

Avdol looks to the dead body and sighs. "Though, I rather not leave the body here to rot or get picked apart by scavengers. Would you prefer if I made a small funeral pyre. At least this man would get some respect at the very end that way."

Zul raises his hands in a defensive manner as one would do while trying to calm an angry boss. "Such aggression, what have we done?" he looks taken aback, "I have told you everything thus far that you have asked to the best of my knowledge" he begins to see the situation less off guard now and begins lowering his arms.

Elrosk looks a little more frightened and says in a whimper, "don't scare Rammy like that"

Zul now straightens up a bit more, looking Lysanthir directly in the eyes, "being rash is, as you made clear, unnecessary,... We do not know what we're dealing with". The look on his face resembles an insulted look. Elrosk however begins getting angry, even if momentarily. "Elrosk!" Zul Feron chimes in, his voice oddly calm even still. All the while holding his stare at Lys. "calm your temper... I thank you for wanting to come to my aid should I need you friend, but this is of no concern. So stand down..." Immediately Elrosk obeys nodding in agreement. "Lysanthir, I didn't ask of you to trust me or not. But I've no reason to prove anything to you. Both parties are at a loss for what's happened, ..."

"Thank you Avdol, your words are very kind" Zul nods in Avdol's direction while keeping his eyes on Lysanthir.

As Gabriel has said nothing to the contrary, Avdol would gather up a few large logs and make almost a sled shaped platform to lay the body on. Using rays of heat to dry them as he went. Casting create water on a piece of clothing the man has, Avdol wipes away the dried blood around the wounds. He then built a tent shape out of smaller sticks and logs covering the man. Reaching into his bandolier and pulling out a flask, he anoints the wood and the man with its contents. Casting create water in a circle around the pyre to prevent causing unnecessary combustion, Avdol leans down over placing two flat stones about an inch wide over the mans eyes.

"Meet your god and be judged favorably. May the warmth reach you in the twilight." Avdol says in a low tone to the man. He stands back with the others and casts one last ray of heat, causing the pyre to burst into flames.

"I don't trust or distrust them Akari. I simply find comfort in numbers. I'm sure this man would have felt the same... if he had that luxury."

Gabriel:
The tracks all appear to be the same freshness. So from this you can gather they were made roughly within the same time frame, If you had to guess however, it would be to the ones leading up the slight incline on the road

Zul looks over to Akari, adding, "Nor should you, we've no reason to entirely trust one another. Now if you're done, let's move on..." He steps past the makeshift pyre Avdol constructed, bows his head for a moment, then passes Gabriel and Lysanthir. "Come, Elrosk. Let's go see what we find. Gabriel:
The tracks leading up the road appear to be the freshest. Though they each look to have been made roughly the same time. Had it not rained the night prior it might have been a bit harder to notice this

Zul and Elrosk continue up the road. They continue on for around five minutes, rounding a corner or two along the way. The trees are assorted in this part of the forest bringing more colors to the palate. Birds are chirping up to this point. Then as you reach the crest of the ascent the sound of animal life fades. Your sight carries a distance now as the path open up again. This time as the trees on either side of the road gain distance from one another so does the canopy. You realize you are on a path on the side of a mountain looking down into a valley. In this valley you see what looks like a small village. There are multiple fields on the outskirts with the road leading through the middle. Along with a handful of homestead's there is a bigger building at the far end that appears to be a church. (If you take the time to count the houses there are 10 houses and an inn. Beyond that you can see that up the side of another mountain, a stone tower peeking out of the treetops.

Zul and Elrosk look and are heard talking among1 themselves as you make your way up to them. Elrosk yawns, stretching. "Elrosk think something off here"

Gabriel looks at Elrosk and Zul "Something off? Maybe related to the clawed monster that killed the poor man?" he starts to walk even more convinced "Whatever is it, we must prevent it."

Okey... could Gabriel discern if the town is or appears to be like the one on his dream? If he can see big mahogany double doors he will run instead of walking, and will be severely spooked by the fact that he dreamt of this place. Specially because of the light inside the church and the Soon... part.

Gabriel:
You can see similarities. However the town in your dream was different. You would notice this almost immediately and yet with that said, there are also similarities (I assure you). Either way something is off about this place...

The temperature seems to fluctuate as you each make your way one by one into the clearing. It becomes dry and hot, like that of a desert. Upon a closer gaze over the fields, they look golden with mixes of brown here and there. You cannot make out what type of plants are being grown in the fields from this distance however. The road leads down and as it does it stays open above for the sun to shine down through the fissure in the canopy. Eventually you can see that it opens up to what looks like the fields below.

"Elrosk think more people should be outside on sunny day" Elrosk chimes in.

Zul nods adding, "No one appears to be working the fields, and it is rather nice out..." Zul now takes a step out from under the cover of the forest canopy. "The air here is substantialy dry. That tower seems out of character to me, it gives me an ominous feeling is all?" He points it out to Gabriel in the case he hadn't saw it.

Elrosk mimics Zul's word then smiles proudly as he pronounces it correctly. "om-in-ous"...

Avdol:
Meanwhile the pyre you built is a success and the body begins to burn. The stench of it all is enough to make anyone sick but somehow you power through it. As the body is burning you think back to your homeland and how easy things seemed back when. Meanwhile one by one your party leaves to follow Zul and Elrosk. Your attention turns back to the fire. For a split second you swear, as if Déjà vu, you seen it turn blue but in that same second it burns, crackling in the same pattern as it always had. It will take some time for the body to fully burn away, but you're confident it will do it's job efficiently.

"How alike and in what sense? They had the same feeling about them or most of these buildings were there plus or minus a few? If its the first calm down. Prophetic... in some way, maybe guiding, if it is a wizard. Look just keep your head on straight for now." under her breath she adds "first an old man now a friend."

Zul looks back over his shoulder to Gabe, "Prophetic huh?" he says to himself. "Gabriel, are you certain of any similarities? Perhaps something, some little detail could help tie it all together."

A gentle breeze passes, blowing a dry heat in your direction. The emptiness of the town was almost eerie, though judging by the position of the sun overhead it was still morning.

"Shall we?" Zul Feron suggests, continuing down a now winding path swiveling back an forth so the path wasn't as steep as if it had gone straight down. It would take some time to get to the town should the rest decide to follow. A few hundred feet down the winding path the trees gave cover to more of the trail once more, shading it from the harsh sun.

Then there's the church, I've never seen one like that before. It has double doors, they are big and made of mahogany. The pastor -I think it was the pastor- walks in, but when the doors open I can only see a blinding light. When I regained my sight I was floating, everything was blackness..." he opens his eyes "Then I heard it: Soon..."

He takes a deep breath, momentarily fatigued "It was so intense... and I dreamt more. Twice again. But I don't know if it was related... I don't know what to believe since the grave." he looks to Zul, an imploring look on Gabe's face "Please, we need to hurry. I must know what is this place and what was that dream."

Avdol with shift his weight around apprehensively, "I don't take visions lightly... if what Gabriel says is what he saw then we should all tread lightly. Also, I don't think we are dealing with some random animal attack, even more so than previously. From it not consuming the body to the relatively close proximity to the town... Its almost... hmm... i'll have to ponder a bit more..."

Avdol begins to walk down the road towards the town, poised to react to any sudden threats.

You make your traverse down the winding path where patches of sunlight spotlight the trail here and there. The surrounding sounds of wildlife are still, if not even more, absent as you lessen the distance to the town you seen from the upper ridges of the valley. A quarter mile's walk brings you to a more direct route to the town. The tracks are littered from left to the right, dispersing in every direction. You being to see claw marks on the trees here. Deep gouges as if whatever it was grasped the trunk hard enough to imprint a permanent scar in some places, while others have brutal, life threatening slashes. Bit of blood are present as well, it's traces varying from the slash marks, to the half dollar sized, dried occasional pools.

Just as you make it to the opening, where the path leads away from the forest and through the center of the fields you get a gust of warmth and decay pressed against you via the strong gust. Your attention now looking ahead. The forest opens up for a large corn field to both sides of the road. You realize that the 'golden fields' from earlier was all corn now. It's ears showing signs of brown mixed with the various yellows depicting it has began a certain wilting process. The definite tracks become less and less easy to identify as the same beast as you make your way into the clearing from the forest. The ground being so dry here, just short of sand-like dirt. If touched it is very dry and any compacted chucks are brittle, breaking away like dust in the wind as the breeze carries it in the direction of the forest.

Knowledge Nature DC15:
You determine that whatever has caused this isn't disease, nor any form of natural for the given area. Basically put, this shouldn't be possible. When checked the soil is rich until you enter the fields, where it becomes increasingly dry, dead and just short of sand-like.

The heat here isn't unbearable, though it is rather warm with low humidity. Due to the excessive storm last night it is surprising that none of it remains even this early in the day. The town is just ahead, maybe a handful of minutes casually walking, (yes the fields are that big). Elrosk reaches into his backpack pulling out a couple of waterskins and tossing one to Zul Ferron.

"Elrosk hot, take break now?"

Zul smiles raising his waterskin as if cheers-ing everyone. "Should you need drink we've plenty" He offers. Leaning against a tree just inside the forest while Elrosk sprawls out in the lush grass just inside the treeline, Zul stares out across the fields.

Zul and Elrosk are taking a break here prior to leaving the forest and entering the town. Each snacking on a ration and drinking water. The only difference is how much sooner you make it there.

Out in the fields, should you continue forward, You notice occasional scarecrows. Each made to look similar, each equally creepy and resting on stakes ten feet tall and roughly 100 feet out from the road. A sign is seen ahead of you, resting again, ten feet above your heads. It is held up by two more stakes pounded into the group on each side of the road. On one a single crow/raven is perched and as you approach it cocks it's head looks at you and flies off.

The sign reads, [[WELCOME TO NISHOKU VALLEY]]

Ahead you see the town, even now being closer it appears deserted thought the town also looks recently inhabited as well based on the condition of the buildings even from this distance.

Knowledge Local DC 10:
Nishoku Valley is an out of the way town known for it's corn festivals at the end of every summer.

Knowldge DC 15:
You also heard through rumor that the town has been struggling lately with its exporting of farm goods since earlier this spring summer, (mid summer now)

Lys stops when Zul and Elrosk did. She takes a drink out of her own water skin. Finshing her drink she says.
"Ominous was an apt word. This creature clearly has been here."
She waits for the others to proceed into the fields. When they do proceced Lys keeps a keen eye out in case the creature attacks. "Keep an eye out, guys. This would be good territory for an ambush"

"Hmm... I must place my flames carefully here, I don't want to cause things I don't want to burn too... well burn..."

Avdol looks around his current area making sure no one or nothing sneaks up on them as Lys had suggested.

If nothing potentially hostile is observed, Avdol will open his robes once again and out comes Shadrazar in his usual gruesome fashion.

"Shadrazar, uxie drazath thex dorazurx forx lix."

Shadrazar takes off high in the sky and begins to loop the village.

"He's going to recon the village, hopefully he could bring back some good news..." GM, please roll for suspense purposes. +14 :)

Avdol drinks from his waterskin (rather noisily) and munches on a ration of jerky and dried fruit. (also rather noisily)

Gabriel turns to the rest, draws his sword and shield and says "I will scout ahead, only a few feet before you. If there's anybody alive we have to hurry and try to save them... If my dream has anything of prophetic, we will find the answer to what happened in the church, but take care anyway."

Gabe will be walking 20 or 30 feet ahead.

"There's no sense in our splitting up, Gabriel. Avdol has his bird, if you could call it that, scouting ahead. If there is to be an ambush, it will be when we are apart, or unaware."

With that, Akari will also have his waterskin out and drinking from it.

"You are right, Akari... I'm just nervous. I don't know what to expect since that old man warned us."

The party takes a break to eat and drink before continuing while Avdol's familiar scouts ahead. Shadrazar flies first for the town, circling it, finishing shortly after you finish your provisions. He then continues circling above the fields until you begin towards the town. Still seemingly there is no one there to anyone's perceptions.

Avdol:
Shadrazar gives off the emotions of confused, concern and disappointed as he makes his rounds around the town.

The party makes their way down the road through the center of the fields, the light breeze plays tricks on your ears as it causes the dried corn stalks to shift. Halfway towards the town your stomachs lurch and hearts drop as you hear the church bell gong.

GONGGGGGG!!! GONGGGGGGG!!! GONGGGGGG!!! GONGGGGGGG!!! GONGGGGGG!!! GONGGGGGGG!!! GONGGGGGG!!! GONGGGGGGG!!! GONGGGGGG!!! GONGGGGGGG!!! GONGGGGGG!!! GONGGGGGGG!!!

Twelve consecutive rings carry loud for all to hear. Shadrazar flies upward again and towards the town where you're overcome with a sense of pride mixed with urgency (as you can assume is to let you know Avdol). Due to the distance and where you all are you still do not see anyone.

Avdol:
Excitement, more so as you think about if there are people there now. Should you wonder why he was unable to perceive them before even Shadrazar feels cconfused and defensive

Elrosk looks to Zul Ferron not sure what to do. Zul looks to the others however, and speaks up, "Did that said 'old man' warn of this Gabriel?... "

Should the party continue you enter the town unscathed after another minute or two of travel. Upon entering the town you now see signs of life heading towards you form the far end. When they catch sight of you the townspeople stop progressing and what you can assume are guards of some sort make their way to you.

"Who are you, what is your business?" The mans voice is deep, as he stands before you roughly 6 1/2 feet tall. Beside him is a man more average in height, he stands looking more eye to eye with you all. "You shouldn't stay here,...

The men seem to be eyeing you all over deciding whether or not you are trustworthy.

Gabriel steps forth and removes his helmet "I am Gabriel of Havenshaw! Me and my friends were travelling north when we got attacked by strange bugbears in the forest near the holy ground... the one in the island. When we exited the forest we found a corpse, clawed to death and followed the monster tracks to try and stop its rampage." he picks the locket from one of his pockets "He was carrying this locket in his hand. The tracks lead here and when found more monster's tracks here we were afraid nobody were alive... For the love of the Sun, what is happening here?"
