Male, old, old, Male

I am going to try to be out of bed tomorrow (going to work for two days lat week was a bad decision) and I think I can answer those questions in depth, but basically

It is an entirely new campaign setting, created by he participants in this game, and my other games, Castle Caldwell and Beyond, and The Beginning of All Things

We've stared defining some dwarven and human gods, by it is still mostly vague,

I'll expand on this tomorrow, posting from my touch pad is sort of hard to do

Treasure: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6) = 12
Treasure: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 6) = 11
Treasure: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 4) = 15
Treasure: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 2) = 6
Treasure: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 5) = 13
Treasure: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2) = 13
Treasure: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2) = 10

80 gold pieces worth of assorted coins

Six suits of leather armor, sized for common dwarven men, six hand weapons (axes, short swords, hammers), two light cross bows, 14 bolts

One potion (unidentified)

Male, old, old, Male

I am going to try to give a better answer to the questions posted

On the setting:
1) Are the deities Tempus, Tymora, Tyr, etc? Or are there custom Gods?

No, this setting will have its own Pantheons. I encourage anyone interested in this to make suggestions. We have defined a few of the Dwarven Gods (and this game is set on the Dwaven Nation/Island of Baylor – This Baylor should not be confused with the Baylor of WeeWarriors fame, though the game is “Palace of the Vampire Queen” a WeeWarriors product, the nation of Baylor, here is mostly undefined and is being created as we play this adventure).

2) Is this the same world as Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter, Waterdeep, Amn, but far away? Or is this a separate universe entirely.

No, It is a separate world, that began as the game “The Beginning of All Things.” This game introduced the Island of Baylor, south of the island of Urandoma (Called Orimar by the people of Alodoa). The campaign, “The Beginning of All Things” was supposed to be a world building/wilderness adventure for six to eight players, but has suffered from player attrition, and much of the world building has slowed to almost nothing lately.

3) As noted in my background, I'm wondering if there's a big imperial style army (Aldoan?) that my character could have been in.

Alodoa has a small, but powerful standing Army, made up of volunteers from the different countries within the Empire. You can read the Campaign Info Tab at “The Beginning of All Things” to learn a little about Alodoa, but as far as this game is concerned, Baylor is friendly towards Alodoa, but not part of the Alodoan Empire. Humans from Alodoa often come to Baylor to seek their fortunes or find their destinies.

I also began another game, “Castle Caldwell and Beyond,” set on the southern border of the Alodoan Empire. If you visit that game, you can see a map of the world that we have created so far, and read a little bit more about part of Alodoa, and there is something also that might be of interest to you that came up as players were creating characters for that game

This Spoiler was included for players interested in creating characters with a “Soldier” background

Soldiers:
Each of you would like to play a soldier that was part of a company defeated in a battle. I am going to create a minor border war between Alodoa and Baravkovia, which occurred in the past year. Baravkovia had been part of the Empire for the past two hundred years, but a minor noble in the Baravkovian royal family started an internal rebellion in hopes of overthrowing the Queen of Baravkovia and seceding from the Empire. I would like to know if DeWay would like to play a soldier in the Secessionist army, and then Lijan would be a soldier in the Alodoan army, you both fought at the same battle. Alodoa was the victor, but it was a costly battle to the empire. Baravkovia has been “pacified” but many in that country still harbor strong feelings, on both sides of the conflict. Baravkovia will be northeast of Harrispania. Baravkovia is a mountainous country with many deep alpine lakes, with a decidedly “Ravenloft-esque” setting. How does this sound? When you begin the game each of you will know that you fought at the battle of Sergan’s Crossing, on the Yasphorus River, but each of you does not know that the other fought against your side in that battle.

If you are interested in being a soldier who fought in the Battle of Sergan’s Crossing, let me know and we will work out the details of what side you fought on, and how many experience points you earned before setting out for Baylor

On character creation:
1) Do I pick my fighter starting gear as normal, then add my 'additional gold' roll in coins on top that? (I think I did it wrong on my gold-spent post, woops).

Yes, you get all the gear of your class, and background, plus starting gold – However, if you are a prisoner in the Dungeon, all your gold after buying equipment will go away, and your equipment will need to be “found” after you are rescued

2) What am I rolling for additional starting XP?

See the note on being a Soldier

1) Hm ok. How about a lion-headed, human Deity. CN
-War
-Strength
-Survival
-Spoils of war
-Blood
-Victory

Name Ideas:
Vitheras
Ivitherus

Not exactly a "good" deity, but he's busy eternally fighting the far worse Maranshe. CE
-Pestilence
-Drought & famine
-Withering

Anyway, just brainstorming some ideas.

3) Yes that sounds perfect. He's Urandoman ancestry. If either side in that battle does drafting/conscription I'd prefer that side. Fits his current background story. But if both are volunteer I'll modify it appropriately.

New starting gear and expenditures.

Starting gear:
-Chain mail
-Two martial weapons, Lance & Greataxe
-Two handaxes
-Explorer's Pack: Includes a backpack, a bedroll, a mess kit, a tinderbox, 10 torches, 10 days of rations, and a waterskin. The pack also has 50 feet of hempen rope strapped to the side of it.
-An insignia of rank, a trophy taken from a fallen enemy (a dagger, broken blade, or piece of a banner), a set of bone dice or deck of cards, a set of common clothes, and a belt pouch containing 10 gp
--Signet ring off a noble he killed. His merc company wiped their whole family out, so Kiril wants to use the symbol for his own noble line once he has lands and a castle. The crest is a raven perched on a tower with ivy on either side.
--A Dragonchess set instead of dice/cards (if I have to buy it, it's 1gp and 1/2lb)

110 additional starting gold (+10 gp from background)
-Maul 10gp 10lb
-Manacles 2gp 6lb
-Block and tackle 1gp 5lb
-Book 25gp 5lb
-Bottle of Wine 10gp 2lb
-Potion of Healing 50gp 1/2lb (2d4+2)
-Portable Ram 4gp 35lb
-Whetstone .001gp 1lb
totals: 102.001gp 64.5lb

starting gear weight
-Chain mail 55lb
-Lance 6lb
-Greataxe 7lb
-Handaxe x2 4lb
-Explorer's pack 67lb
total 203/300lbs
-Coin left: 17.999gp

The book details nearly every type of wine, drinking etiquette, and how to distinguish them. He'd be ecstatic to get it back.

Male, old, old, Male

Well, it is not completely unlikely that a Urandoman (think Hollywood "idealization" of medieval Ireland)would volunteer to fight on the side of the Alodoan Empire in the recent uprising in Barakovia.

Urandoma was "pacified" by Alodoa about 13 years ago, and the attempt at Barakovian succession was only a little more than a year ago.

I'm not altogether crazy about a CN deity, but if you look at the Character of Magnus, in the Castle Caldwell game, that player has begun creating another human culture, on some archipelago to the south southeast of Baylor. Maybe we can fit your human character into that culture (instead of Urandoma). These "Island Men" have a somewhat barbaric culture (compared to Alodoa), and a Lion headed Deity might fit in with what he is building rather well.

The player Tribeof1, wrote this history for his character

History: It's been 25 years since the longships of the Vayangurr left the Islands of the Blind God seeking plunder along Harrispania's coast. Called Vangar by the native Alodoans, many of the raiders remained within the country's borders, integrating into frontier society while maintaining many of the old ways. Magnus Ravenson is one such. Born at sea during the rain-soaked crossing from Iskurra, he was indoctrinated into the secret teachings of the Crow God at an early age. Taught to fight with spear, axe and sword by veteran Vangar who stayed behind as sellswords, Magnus joined Harrispania's army for a time and served alongside the Alodoans during the War of Secession in Baravkovia.

Blooded at the battle of Sergan’s Crossing, his pagan prayers kept many of his fellow soldiers in the lands of the living. But some of those same soldiers later turned on him when, according to the rites of his faith, he refused to bury the dead - among the Vangar, those who fall on the battlefield are left for the crows, so that they, like Vodhan, can be carried up to the clouded halls of the Storm King to battle eternally...

Lastly, There are a few named 9and a few Unnamed) human countries that are part of the Alodoan Empire, and you are welcome to create a culture of your own, as long as it isn't too far removed from the types of cultures we have already built into the setting

Alodoa - very much like Idealizations of colonial New Englanders, independent, brave, lawful, good

Urandoma - Hollywood idealization of Ireland

Baylor - H9ollywood idealization of "Black Forest Germany"

Harrispania - Frontier Colonials

City States of tarulle - Hollywood idealization of colonial Spanish

Vayangurr - Hollywood idealization of a sort of Viking/Native American Indian culture

The same pantheon as Vodhan the Blind, God of Crows, would be awesome. In fact, maybe Kiril has seen/met Magnus at Sergan’s Crossing, maybe that's where he picked up the faith. As for CN, I feel like war isn't 'lawful' and orderly. And wars can be fought for good or bad reasons. Similar to Tempus, who's CN, but with a different flavor. Praying to Vitheras/Ivitherus is like praying for strength, blood, and victory. Whereas Tempus is about honor and following the rules of war. If Chaotic Evil or True Neutral sounds more appropriate, I'm cool with either.

I would like Kiril to be darker/olive skinned. Native-American-style skin would work, but definitely not 'fair' like Magnus. If that fits Vayangurr, then that sounds best.

Would there have been any mercenary companies fighting in the Battle of Sergan’s Crossing? Was thinking of removing his time in the army (since there's no conscription), and make him pure mercenary.

EDIT: It's tough to track down all the info on this world, seems spread out between 3-4 campaign threads, sometimes in campaign info, sometimes in discussion or recruitment. Would be handy if it was all in one place somewhere.

Updated Kiril's profile. New background.

Also:
*Swapped greataxe for halberd.
*Swapped background feature (borrowed from Sailor: Pirate's background feature).

Male, old, old, Male

Okay, Kiril will be introduced as a voice calling for help shouting curses and threats to his captors that Myna hears through the stone door.

He will not have any of his gear, and will be naked except for breaches, but his gear will be...somewhere...nearby...

maybe

Also, the Vayangurr (Called Vangar by most Alodoan's and Dwarf's of Baylor) mercenaries fought on the side of Baravkovia in an uprising against Alodoa. When the war was ended in the battle of Sergan's crossing, the victorious Alodoan army took pity on the defeated mercenaries, and set them free with a warning that they would be "watched" and if they started any trouble they would be deported back to their island homes. Many Vayangur soldiers settled in Harrispania, but some left the mainland for Urandoma and Baylor

I will work at putting together a collection of the notes other players have helped me create for this world

Male, old, old, Male

I also think that full blood orcs can be found in the city states of Tarulle, mentioned in the Castle Caldwell game, and lands south east of that country which would bring it into close proximity to the islands of the Vayangurr

1) Are you saying the Iskurral Wolves fought against the Aldoans? Or just general Vayangurr mercenaries? From Magnus' backstory: "Taught to fight with spear, axe and sword by veteran Vangar who stayed behind as sellswords, Magnus joined Harrispania's army for a time and served alongside the Alodoans during the War of Secession in Baravkovia."

2) Do you mean Orcs aren't on Vayangurr at all? Or just that they're also on Tarulle?

I'll post on gameplay! Exciting

Male, old, old, Male

Now I'm making myself confused (which is bound to happen when a group of people agree to collaborate on creating a setting)

I think I misspoke about Magnus' background just now.

In the player's last post he wrote

"Aye, better to take the opponent's position of strength than to leave it at your back while seeking weaker prey," he says, brows lowering as he recalls dark memories. "I served under men in Baravkovia who learned that lesson too late ... the water at Sergan's Crossing ran as red and thick as wine due to their foolishness, though Harrispania won out in the end. The Crow God likely thanked them for sending his flock such a ripe feast."

but in his background he says he fought on the side of the Alodoan army, so I need to clear up what all this means and write a clear description of the battle, who fought on which side, and post it in each game

There could be Orcs on the Vayangurr islands, I was just trying to establish a place of origin for the race, a place where they might be in power.

Male, old, old, Male

It is certainly possible that Vangar mercenaries fought on both sides of that battle.

Baravkovia was slightly outnumbered, I believe, but also, if I remember correctly, Alodoa had the advantage of the southern approach to the river, which was higher ground, and had better arms and armor, not to mention a company of Archers from the country of Palicadia

Male, old, old, Male

Of course, none of this has anything to do with the Palace of the Vampire Queen...yet

If Gwendolyn were still with the party, she would barge into the room, but she isn't here, so no GM fiat to get things moving in the right direction

If somebody doesn't enter this room our new player is going to have a difficult time joining the game.

Kiril, you can make a Perception Skill Check to hear the words being spoken by the party, the DC is 20

Some god building off of that earlier idea I had. I have a few ideas for the other dwarvern gods of metals, namely Silver and mithril, I'll post them a bit later, but if anyone wants to help make the pantheon of metal, I'd appreciate it. I am naming Silver as the god of art, and Mithril as magic, but don't have any other details worked out yet.

Lofene (Low-feen)- Lord of Iron - Lawful Neutral
Lofene is the dwarvern god of Iron and warfare, the first to shape the metal to his whim. He took the iron and revolutionized combat by making weapons from it. He is a stubborn and unyielding dwarf. Followers of his take exception when iron is used in tools with purposes other than warfare. Shields, swords, and even bits used in catipults and fortresses are all acceptable, but an iron cooking pot or iron hinges on a civilians door are considered inappropriate uses of the metal.

Might find some inspiration here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogun

I like the idea of it being blasphemy to use iron for non-war purposes.

Male, old, old, Male

So, I had already posted this...

One of the players suggested keying each figure in the Pantheon to a type of rare earth mineral, so I am working that out now, but basically we have

Dwarves – there are eleven Gods in this Pantheon in two families (aligned along Lawful/Chaotic lines, but all are good), I’ve mentioned only three in that game so far

Igsugmund Silver Heart (Moradin) – The God of Fatherhood (Work, Devotion, Protection, Animal Husbandry)

Wyuddenllwyn Iron Eyes (Berronar) – The Goddess of Motherhood (Patience, Determination, Suffering, and Hope)

Mevboll Golden Hand (Sharindlar) – The Goddess of Natural Beauty (Lust, Fertility, Spring, Renewal)

I've only made this much progress with the Dwarven pantheon

I had posted this in the Castle Caldwell and Beyond Game, with a simple change we can give Wyuddenllwyn a new metal

Dwarves – there are eleven Gods in this Pantheon in two families (aligned along Lawful/Chaotic lines, but all are good), I’ve mentioned only three in that game so far

Wyuddenllwyn Iron Copper Eyes (Berronar) – The Goddess of Motherhood (Patience, Determination, Suffering, and Hope)

and add

Pretty much up to industrial era we thought mercury was awesome and fast and magical. It's a moot point since this is a fantasy world, but maybe something to consider. For example, maybe instead of 'madness', he's capricious--his mood and favor can change quickly and suddenly. And is the god of change and revolution, so there'd be a reason for people to pray to him. It's got the vibe of madness still, but a slightly different angle. Just some thoughts.

yes, why don't you roll 4d6 and then x10 the results. I do expect players to track experience, and if you take the time to get familiar with the house rules we are using you will see we are using a slightly different experience point award system for monsters defeated. you should be about half way to level 2, maybe a little over.

I don’t know how much each of you is interested in developing parts of this campaign setting, but I’ve been going over the game and the other two games on these boards set in Alodoa, and making a list of things we’ve established so far. First there is a list of important events mentioned in each of the games, then I will be putting together a detail of the geography, and finally I will search the games for details of the cultures we have created so far.

If you want to have a hand in this process, just say so, and make a suggestion. I’m not saying everything that is suggested will be included, but it is open for discussion.

The Campaign Setting of Alodoa
A. Games within this setting
1. The Beginning of All Things (starts in the year 1381)
2. Castle Caldwell and Beyond
3. Palace of the Vampire Queen, 5e

B. Time line of major events
1. The Beginning of All Things
a. Current year - 1381
b. Invasion of Orimar (Urandoma) by Alodoa – 1368
c. Duffy MacNorra discovers the ruins that become “MacNorra House” – 1330
d. Original construction of the buildings at “MacNorra House” - ?
e. Settling of MacNorra House by Gymnaga-folk – 1362
f. Birth of Poseus – 1364
g. Founding of the village of Kinamay Brawnoor – 1369
h. War between Iarishea and Alodoa – 1310

I know that not everyone enjoys the same level of Role Playing, but I want to try and remind everyone that in PbP format, role play is critical to keeping the game interesting. Every post cannot be just a simple set up for the next combat encounter. Talking to each other, either in character, in the game thread, or out of character, in the discussion thread, helps to keep the players interested in each others characters.

Kiril has his gear, you've got to decide to set these dwarves free (they are probably working for the bandits, or bandits themselves, it is hard to determine, but they doi not seem as interested in attacking you as the last group was) and you have learned about a "bandit Boss" but you are not sure if that was the wizard you defeated a just a little while ago, or if it is someone else. You can set out to explore more of the first level as soon as you are ready.

Had to have a molar pulled this morning, I’ll be struggling to get back on track for a day or two, sorry for the delays.

I wouldn't worry about it! It usually takes a couple of days for us all to chime in. Hope you feel better soon!

The Alodoan Campaign Setting

I have begun to update this journal to include everything we know about Woodbridge, and the Alodoan Campaign Setting

Please visit it, and if you have any suggestions, or need to get your own creations identified or updated, PM me with the details. I'll begin adding some of the pantheons we have created in the next few days. I'll also be adding information about Harrispania (The Castle Caldwell game) and Baylor (the Palace of the vampire Queen, the 5e version game).

Oh awesome, this is great :D

I'm up and feeling pretty good this morning, surgery went real well, doctor says the healing should go great.

Okay, so I think I am getting better at using CC3+ (the secret is to just not be in a hurry) I copied and pasted into a new map, the area of Alodoa, Baylor and Urandoma (the world is getting bigger!) I'll start adding national boarders, features and other details soon. I placed an "X" on the map where Vayangurr would be. This link is to a bit map file, if you can't see it, I'll try a png file instead (I'm not the smartest computer person in the world so I really don't know which one is easier to use).

The Known World_02

I'll also take a shot at editing over Alodoa to show more of Iaresia, and the southern part of the continent - maybe even whats on the other side of Rodney Bay?

I have not been enjoying the pace and flavor of the game for quite sometime. I am dropping, thanks and good luck.

@GM, Great news, interested to see how it develops. Is Magnus from the other game still contributing to Vayangurr?

@Morgrym, Sorry to hear :/ Safe travels!

Oh, Myna! Don't forget to take advantage of sneak attacking! I think you just need to go after someone adjacent to an ally of yours and you can use it.
