Rownig Fleetfoot |
Rownig does an thorough inventory of his gear, tests his axes, and twirls them around his fingers. "I'll lead the way, now let's get a move on it, times wastin'" He moves through the cave complex where Galinea has set up a refuge of sort. "Let's kill us some hill giants first, n'ver liked that lot much."
Rownig Fleetfoot |
Rownig will creep along the hallways heading the direction of the alleged hill giants position. Let's see if their where Galinea claimed they'd be. If they are, maybe she's not as bad as Windel thinks...maybe. He eases around the bends, peering carefully.
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Windel Warhaven |
Windel keeps to himself, still a bit uncomfortable around Galinea, more for his axe's sake then his own mistrust. Hill giants...huh? Stupid brutes.
I'm not sure if you need another will save for Windel to keep control over the axe's ego.

Day 13 Afternoon, current turn 79 (approximate time of day, 1:00 pm) Location-the first level of the Palace of the Vampire Queen
After taking a few moments to set out their own little corner of the camp site cave, the party checks their gear, and the heads toward the entrance
The small troop of Goblins under Galinea’s command are dragging charred corpses out from the entrance, and dousing them with buckets of water fetched from the creak a short distance away, and then tying the bodies hand to foot.
As you pass by you cannot help but take notice that the bodies are made up of dwarves, goblins, humans, and even elves.
There are a few giant spiders nearby, wearing saddles, their bridle ropes tied to stakes driven into the ground, and Windel feels compelled to keep a safe distance away from them
It has not been a full week since you found the axe, it was discovered on Day 7, so no need for new Will Save, yet
Moving quietly through the methodically working group of goblins, the group makes their way into the twenty foot wide passageway that is the central corridor into the first level of the Palace of the Vampire Queen.
At each door, Hallister stops, and shoves open one of the stone doors, and then gives the room a quick once over. He can see that someone has cleared out the rooms of cots, cooking fires, and other signs of habitation.
With Rownig leading the way, the group continues northward. Rowing hugs the west wall, moving as quickly as he dares, but trying to stay hidden
Can I assume that Rownig is “Taking ten” giving him a Stealth Check DC of 17?
Ahead Rownig sees the unmistakable glow of two large fire pits place in passageway some distance further to the north, shedding light towards the group. He stops when he is still a good distance from the light, and he can see large figures standing on the other side of the pits, and he worries if they can see him…
Hill Giant Perception Check: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19
A loud voice booms down from the north
Take another step this direction, stunty, and it’ll be your last.
Rownig’s best guess is that the giants are 80 feet away from his position on the map
If the party wants to rearrange their placement, state so now if you get a moment to do so.
Miagnik |
Position is just fine for me.
Miagnik stops moving when he hears the booming voice echo from ahead.
He quietly moves up next to Mae.
Works for me. he thought to himself. Then he began to cast a spell.
"Dhalkek Taagaan."
Flaming Sphere.
initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Reflex save. Dc.15: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 6, 6) + 3 = 18
Stephanie Stavros |
Fine with where I am. Most of my spells are close range so I'm going to need to move up regardless of what happens next.
Init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
The gnome blinks for a moment as combat starts rapidly. "Well. Alright then."
K:history: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Would Stephanies knowled of ancient dwarven war history give her anything about how to properly combat a giant? Chopping at it until it fell over seemed to work pretty well for the troll. Just figure she might know a bit more than that due to her book learning.
EDIT: Well never mind then. Apparently Stephanie knows nothing. Ah the fickle nature of the dice roller
Terquem |
Unfortunately, Stephanie’s studies never touched on “Battling Hill Giants,” however, everyone knows that Hill Giants are practically never seen on the west end of the island, having been driven out of this part of the island by dwarves many years ago. They are still encountered in the low hills on the eastern end of the island, and are always dangerous, taking to hiding in deep complex caves. Rumors have it thet a particularly dangerous Hill Giant Chief has begun building a fort somewhere in the dense forests of the hills on the eastern end of the island
Startled by the sudden appearance of a flaming ball on the ground, the Giants prepare for an attack
Hill Giant Initiative: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19

Day 13 Approximate time of day, 1:00 pm (turn, 79) Location-the first level of the Palace of the Vampire Queen – Hill Giant Battle
Since Miagnik announced his turn with an Action, I am going to assume that anyone who rolled better initiative than he did, is primed to act, but doesn’t actually do anything until he launches his Flaming Sphere, so those characters would then have an Initiative of 22
Atharessa: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Moralane: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Miagnik – 23
Stephanie – 22
Maelodakh - 22
Rownig - 20
Hill Giants – 19
Hallister – 7
Windel – 4
Miagnik, I do not have a particular target for you spell, so I am choosing the center Hill Giant
Round 1…
As soon as Rownig is about to turn to Hallister, and give the signal for, “What next?” the dwarf watches in frustration as a ball of fire forms in Miagnik’s hands while a grin spreads across the goblin’s face, and then…
*FWOOOSH* the spell flies down the passageway and expands into a burning sphere as it lands on the Giant in the center of the intersection
Reflex Save, Org: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
The flaming Sphere appears to land right on the giant’s feet, and the brute howls in a rage and leaps backward.
Hill Giant, Org – takes 18 fire damage from Flaming Sphere (67)
Rownig Fleetfoot |
Rownig will double move but use his stealth (so he only moves 20 feet to G:-1), he glances to his left down the side corridor. His axes in hand.
stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
vs giants perception
That's gonna hurt.
perception down side corridor: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Stephanie Stavros |
Sorry didn't see most recent post. I guess i mentally assumed you were using the same house rules my group does of Natural 20 initiative rolls taking presecence over non-20 rolls. Sorry.
Seeing the first steps of the battle already starting stephaine starts chanting. The tumbling words of arcane speed rolling out of her mouth as she does and enhancing her allies.
Targeting our fighters with Haste before they get out of my range. Targets are: Ronwig,Windel,Maelodahk,Hallister and Moralane
Miagnik |
I just love haste as a spell. It's so good!
Miagnik |
It's a heavy shield. If you think about in simplistic terms, there are only 3 types of shields; a light steel shield would be conidered... well the light shield category. A heavy steel shield would fall into the Medium shield category. While a tower shield falls into the heavy shield category.
Terquem |
Yes, sorry I still drift back into older edition conventions at times – It appears that Pathfinder does not have a “medium” shield listed by that word in the PRD. Alcor’s Bane is a “Kite” shield, in design, so I feel it would be a Heavy Steel Shield Sized for a medium sized creature
Day 13 Approximate time of day, 1:00 pm (turn, 79) Location-the first level of the Palace of the Vampire Queen – Hill Giant Battle
Miagnik – 23
Stephanie – 22
Maelodakh - 22
Rownig - 20
Hill Giants – 19
Hallister – 7
Moralane - 6
Atharessa - 5
Windel – 4
Stephanie finishes the words of a powerful enchantment just as her half sister goes running off to the north
Rownig attempts to slip quietly a little further down the passageway, and glances to the west, to be sure there are no surprises. He sees that the corridor there is empty.
The giants reach into their pouches and take out large rocks, and then two of them take a half step toward the center of the passageway, to get a good look to the south.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Spotting the advancing Goblin and the sneaking dwarf, the giants hurl their boulders down the passageway
1-3=Rownig
Ranged Attack, Red: 1d6 + 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + (10) + 6 = 22
Ranged Attack, Org: 1d6 + 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + (12) + 6 = 19
Ranged Attack, Yel: 1d6 + 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + (11) + 6 = 18
One of the large rocks flies at Mae. And the other two fly toward Rownig but Rownig, with some bit of his nature kicking in at the last moment, dodges the boulders coming his way, and the first boulder flies over Mae's head
Rownig should get a +4 Dodge Bonus to AC, versus giants, +1 Dodge, and another +1 Dodge from Haste – Don’t forget your Haste Bonus all of you who were the subject of Stephanie’s Spell
Hill Giant, Org – takes 18 fire damage from Flaming Sphere (67)
Edited for bad dice math
Rownig Fleetfoot |
Rownig's AC is 21 right now: +4 giants, +1 haste
Red's 22 hits Rownig (although I'm not sure if you had an extra d6 coded in the attack roll.)[/ooc]
damage from 1 rock hitting rownig: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Terquem |
Sorry I didn't make it clearer, boy did I mess that up!. The d6 roll in each attack was supposed to establish who the target is, with the 1-3 = Rownig qualifier at the beginning, so the first rock target Mae, while #2 and #3 target Rownig - then I went ahead and forgot to ignore the extra roll of that d6 in the attacks - So Mae wasn't hit at all actually - editing now
Hallister Silverspike |
"Sonofa..." Hal growls and puts on a burst of speed.
With the boost from haste, Hal's movement is 50. That puts the orange one in Charge distance. Hal Charges to square -E,0
Swift action, activate Snake Style
Charge, haste: 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 9 + 1 + 2 = 24
Damage: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Current AC is 20 (18, +1 haste, +4 giants, -2 charge)
Ready to use Snake Style and Swashbuckler's Parry to negate attacks though. Lets put this build to the test.
Terquem |
Now I think I get one AOO when Hall charges in, right, because the giants have reach
As Hallister runs headlong at one of the giants, he sees the brute lifting a huge club with one hand ready to bring it down as Hall tries to get in close enough to strike
AOO, Melee: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
But the Giant is clumsy, and his timing is terrible
Maybe you won't get to put that build to the test after all, haha
Moralane Vessocho |
When Moralane sees Hallister burst into a run charging down the passageway, she curses under her breath and then shouts
Alright then, let’s take them down
She moves forward, feeling the energy of the magic spell pulsing through her body, and draws an arrow. When she thinks she has moved far enough, she is surprised to see how far she has gone.
Move to J,0
She aims carefully and fires, watching as Hallister lands a powerful blow to the center Giant's groin
Ranged Attack, -2 increment penalty, -2 for deadly aim: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
The arrow flies straight and true, heading right for the center giant’s head
Critical?: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Hitting the giant’s mouth, and striking it in one of its large teeth, the arrow is a good shoot, but if it had been higher, it would have been a great shot
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Atharessa Deloui |
Atharessa moves in close to Stephanie, and takes a firm grip on her spear
I’ll stay close to you, Princess, just don’t get too close and I’ll keep you safe.
Hill Giant, Org – takes 18 fire damage from Flaming Sphere (67)
Hill Giant, org - Takes 12 damage from Hallister's attack (55)
Hill Giant, org – takes 11 damage from Moralane’s Arrow – (44)
It's Windel's go, then the top of round2!
Miagnik |
Miagnik grinned as the Giant failed to move away from his ball of fire. He aimed his hand which began to glow with a glowing orange spark surrounded by black smoke.
"Tacharluuch Dhegaalkar!" he shouted before the black smoky ball streaked forward and exploded in the face of the lead giant who was already menaced with a rolling ball of flame.
With his other hand he threw the ball of fire up at the Giant a second time.
dc.14 reflex/half + Dazzled: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
dc.15 reflex: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1, 2) + 3 = 7
Miagnik |
The Spell is called Snapdragon Fireworks. It's a 1/round per level 1d4+1 fire damage spell that hits a 5 ft. square. Creatures in that square make a reflex save for half, and if they fail are Dazzled for 1 round. Since the Giants are large, Miagnik is aiming for their top half to not hit Hal.
Miagnik |
>:D Just wait until I get Fireball!!
Rownig Fleetfoot |
Rownig has a death wish so he takes off running and double moves and then adds his haste movement taking him to -C>-2, he stops before any att of opportunity can be struck. But he is close enough for a future 5 ft step movement and then feint with a sneak attack strike.
"To Me, to me, lets slice and dice and splice their innards and make us some Hill giant flank steaks, just black and blue, cause they tough'n up some with heat." The bold dwarf statement boarders on intimidation. "Now Miagnik...lets slow cook 'em, a bit softer on the fire there." The dwarf rambles on, on how to prepare hill giant steaks. He continues on, "Did you wake up today knowing you were going to die, and be my dinner? How'd that make you feel you ugly swine." His diatribe stops for a second, "O'course, you could drop to the floor and no self respectin' dwarf would dare kill or eat your flesh....I mean we only do that with our battle kills."
