Rownig Fleetfoot |
The next morning Rownig gets everyone together after their morning rituals. "So do we press on today and try to finish searching this level of the complex?" He bites his lip, "We still need proof of what we suspect."
Rownig and Windel do not know about the missing mom and dad. Plus, they only recently learned about this secret organization Hal and Miagnik belong to, although Rownig knew there was something secretive about Hal.
Moralane Vessocho |
Day 8, morning, turn 53 (Turn of the Clock, The approximate time of day is 8:40 am)
Moralne stands by the door ready to open it and then quietly announces
I only have seven arrows left. When those are gone, I’ll have the sword, but let’s hope we can find some arrows before we get to that. So, where are we going?
Princess Stephanie |
Stephanie is in agreement with Rownig, ready to search the remainder of this level. With her magics restored she is clean once again, and there's a spark in her eye that wasn't there yesterday.
She approaches the door, positioned behind Moralane. "As the king mentioned, we may come across more patrols. So let's not assume some place is safe just because we've cleared it before. They're likely to be on alert with the corpses we've left as well. And I have prepared an incantation of invisibility should someone wish to scout. Keep it in mind." With that she takes a deep breath and smiles at the others, as if assuring them she's as ready as she seems.
Rownig Fleetfoot |
"Miagnik or meself could best use that spell, but best t'wait a bit. We can be pretty sneaky." Once everyone is ready Rownig resumes his point person roll and heads out. He heads west past the four way intersection to the door towards the end of the hall on the northern wall.

+1 traps.
Scouring for secret doors, he points to Miagnik "remember what I've shown ya."
Miagnik |
Before leaving the room, Miagnik stared down at the golden ring on his hand and looked over to Windel. The two of them had not gotten along very well, but they both knew they were all in this together. He made his way over to the Dwarf and began a somewhat awkward attempt at clearing the air between the two.
"Windel. Uh.. listen there's been some less than friendly moments between us. But I know that there's a lot of things with hostile intent out there." He says gesturing to the hallway beyond the door. "You're the one person able to keep us from dying in case things go poorly. I have this ring here, it's able to store magic of any type into it and allow the wearer to use it, arcane or divine. I'd like you to help me share your burden. If you would fill the ring with some of your magic, I could help keep us all alive."
Basically Miagnik is asking Windel to put 1-2 cure spells into the ring.
Windel Warhaven |
From a mechanics stand point do he have to cast the spell into the ring, thus losing the charge? If so, then Windel will nod and tell Miagnik to approach him at the end of the day that if he has spells left over he'll do that.

Day 8, turn 54, morning
Moralane smiles, and nods at Rowning, then she slides the extra arrows into her quiver.
She puts her shoulder to the door and pushes, slowly, until it is open wide enough for everyone to slip out into the hall
One by one the party approaches the door, glancing out into the darkness of the hall before moving out into the wide passageway beyond.
When the last person has left the room, Moralane looks back at the floating Goblin Ghost, and bows, and then she too slips out into the passageway letting the door close behind her.
Moving quietly and keeping a good separation between them all, the party moves to the west to the first of the four way intersections.

Day 8, morning, turn 53 (Turn of the Clock, The approximate time of day is 8:40 am)
The group approaches the intersection cautiously
.
Rowning holds up a hand to stop everyone, and Atharessa gently takes Stephanie’s arm, to slow her down (knowing that Stephanie’s sight in the dark may not be as good as everyone else's).
Rowning motions for Maelodakh to go to the opposite wall, to the south, while he peers around the corner to the north. Maelodakh puts her ear up near the corner, and listens for signs of a patrol. When both are satisfied the way is clear, Rowning waves for the others to cross to the west as fast as they can.
Hallister and Windel lead the way in a short jog across the intersection.
Moving again as a group you head toward the single set of double doors in the north wall of this passageway. A you approach each of you cannot help but notice a significant drop in the temperature around you, and it gets colder the closer you get to the door.
Miagnik |
Miagnik looked around the hall, he had always been more perceptible to sudden chills than others. He didn't liked what he felt here.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
"Frost around the door." He said, pointing it out.
Princess Stephanie |
"Then it's a good thing you have such a fondness for 'fire'" Stephanie smirks quietly with Miagnik. "With the temperature drop as well, this must be more than a trap. I don't know what would cause such things, however..."
Miagnik |
"I don't know either. Well then, let's go say hi. Rownig, the door."

Day 8, morning, turn 53
Round 1
When the door is pushed open a powerful gust of bone chilling air mixed with moisture and the smell of salty sea air blows out of the room beyond.
The floor of the chamber beyond the door is littered with the bones of many small and medium sized humanoids and is covered with a film of ice.
The Chamber appears to have once been a burial chamber like the others on this level, but the raised platform in the center of the room has been cleared of burial urns and now has a large sturdy bed placed upon it.
A figure sits on the bed with its legs touching the ground. The figure faces you. It is a decrepit thing, vaguely humanoid, tall, and slim, with a female shape. It wears an elegant styled gown over a suit of high quality chain mail, hard, knee high black leather boots can be seen through a slit in the dress.
Her flesh, where it can be seen is blue and pulled tight against her skeletal frame. Her face is frightening and yet still beautiful. Her hair is thick, dark, and shaped wildly as if it were frozen in place by a bitter cold ocean gale. In her hands she holds a large scimitar. She rises quickly when the door is opened, and glares toward you with dead eyes.
Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
the room is bitterly cold, below zero degrees, and entering the room will mean you must first make a Fortitude Save, the DC is 15. If you fail you take d6 non lethal cold damage. Should you stay in this room for more than ten minutes another save will be required with a +1 DC modifier.

Mae nods to the dwarf at the door.
"A good call Rownig."
With just a hint of trepidation the doughty gobliness asks the group
"Think the icy harridan can leave that cell?"
Hallister Silverspike |
"He learned something' from th' last time." Hal said approvingly. "Th' undead don't tend t' be very forward thinking or have much of a grasp o' time. She'll likely either sit there, or come scratchin' at th' door t' git to us. Either way we got a little time."

Backing away from the door the party is tense and on edge with no real idea of what they may have awakened.
Suddenly there is a loud roaring sound from the other side of the doors, as if an icy storm is raging. The sound is brief, and dies out almost as soon as it rises. Then this is followed by the unmistakable sound of bones as they crack hard against an icy surface.
The sound of the cracking bones on ice is rushing toward the door.
This will be the end of round 1
Windel, would you like to retcon that Battle Rage, seems like you will waste it in round one
Windel Warhaven |
No thank you, I don't recon actions.
I'm not going to roll a know religion either since he really did not have a LOS from his position. That is why he asked why Rownig closed the door - somewhat confused. I picture Rownig opening the door, seeing the creature, and then immediately shutting the door.
Rownig Fleetfoot |
Rownig grumbles under his breath, "Errrr, I think we should talk 'bout what's behind th't door." He looks at the goblins then at Hal and Windel, he rubs the sweat off his forehead. "Perhaps, IF we decide t'go back in sum others want t'lead the way." He eyes Hal and Windel and the fearless goblins. "I can follow and tumble behind...it." He is hesitant to call her a woman.

Maelodakh has a faraway look in her eyes.
"She's sooooo beautiful..."
The faraway look fades, replaced by characteristic pragmatic sense.
"And deadly. [pats morningstar] Best be careful and make sure she's mashable."
Hallister Silverspike |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"A'right, listen up." Hal said, his voice uncharacteristically commanding. "That thing in there is the most dangerous thing any o' us have ever faced. If we ain't smart 'bout this it's going to kill us all."
"Try t' keep clear o' her. She's like the heart o' winter an just bein' near her will sap the warmth outta ye, an' when she goes down she just might blow up."
"We need t' try t' keep her locked down. I got a net which might keep her busy for a bit, but we're gonna need more'n that."
Anyone have tanglefoot bags or movement hampering spells like grease?
"We might be able t' keep her tied up in this doorway. I'll hold there an' try t' block her way. Windel, I'm gonna need as much o' Praggul's help t' keep me upright as possible. The rest o' ye just keep back an' keep firing. If yer arrows don't seem t' be workin' throw axes or whatever else ye got." Hal passed his two throwing axes to Moralane and Rownig.
"Which reminds me. Fire. If ye got it, use it. Don't worry 'bout me. Just do it."
"Git ready."

Round 2
A sense of urgency sweeps through the group as the sounds increase in volume.
You may ask to have your Character repositioned after I update the map, so you might want to hold off on your Round 2 Action until you see the new map and take advantage of the move opportunity of Round 1
Hallister barks out a few quick commands, and the heroes dash into ready positions when suddenly the two doors are flung open toward the Passageway and a veritable army of small and medium sized skeleton like creatures come charging out. The Drowned Maiden, at the back of this horde of Skeletons, grins an evil and menacing smile and raises her scimitar high above her head with both hands.
Round 2 begins with the Skeletons coming out into the passageway (I’ll update the map tonight) and they go on the Drowned Maiden’s Initiative. There are nine small Skeletons, and four Medium Skeletons. The Skeletons appear normal, but are also a deep blue color, covered here and there with ice, and radiate a cold aura. You will ot have to save versus the Skeleton’s Cold Aura unless you have succeeded against the Drowned Maiden’s Aura, and end your turn next to a Skeleton
I don’t expect anyone to post Round 2 actions, yet, but if you are chomping at the bit and really want to do something before Stephanie gets back, I won’t hold that against you. The Drowned Maiden’s Aura is 30’ from her, the Save DC is 14, and you must roll this Save before you take your action if you are within 30 feet of her at the start of your turn. Her Cold Aura Save is required every 10 minutes, so you should only have to roll it once in this combat. The Skeleton’s Cold Aura effects any character who passed the Maiden’s Aura, and ends their turn next to a Skeleton, every round! Their Aura is a DC of 12 Fortitude Save for d4 cold damage (nl)
Miagnik |
As the door burst open, Miagnik felt the rush of cold wind hit his skin and immediately seeped into his core.
Fort save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Cold, non lethal: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Beginning to shake he reacted instinctively and raised his hand to retaliate, more against the cold than at the enemies facing them.
"Gah, too cold! Burn burn burn!"
Round 2: Miagnik is casting burning hands.
Burning Hands. Dc. 15 Reflex for half: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3, 3, 1) + 4 = 15

Okay, so Round One, Windel casts Bless. Prior to Initiative being rolled, before Rownig opened the Door, Windel tried to Buff Hallister. Rownig opens the door, initiative is called for. The Maiden goes first and starts a full round action (summoning the Skeletons) and then Rownig shuts the door. Windel Casts Bless. Anyone else have a Round one action they want to get out of the way before we move on? Remember the door is closed. In round two, the Skeletons and the Maiden charge the Doors, and when it is time, Miagnik casts Burning Hands.
Maelodakh Listener |
From Discussion:
"Mae, swap with Miagnik! We need to hold this door! See if you can get that side shut so they can only come one at a time!"
Mae, do you think you can force the door shut and hold it. You'll still be able to attack things that are in front of me. I'd like to bottleneck this fight as much as possible.
Mae tries her hardest to oblige...
Do I need to roll something like an opposed Strength check to force he door closed?
