Calistan frowns momentarily as his whip fails to hit the creature, but takes cover when the goblin tosses a flask of burning oil at him. Sadly, he doesn't have enough time to react as he is covered in flames and he winces from the pain as the flames persist for a few seconds.

WE ARE OUT OF INITIATIVE ROUNDS
From the shadows behind Skyreach, a familiar figure carrying his right arm like a bird with a broken wing limps towards you.
“Come quickly! I have little time to speak.” his voice shrills. You notice the man is far paler than he was in the alley before the Passion.
Lowering his voice to a soft hiss he whispers, “You may have heard the Ten have been keeping tabs on the exile Grandmaster Torch and have had the Sapphire Sage working undercover to unmask our enemy who calls herself the Spider.”
“The Shadow Lodge is real!”
“I know this is a shock, and may have you questioning EVERYTHING you thought you knew before. But to assist with your transition to a post-Shadow Lodge reality, I offer you something that may help you defeat Charvion, who is now calling himself ‘Eater-of-Flies.’”
He passes Diri a lesser strand of prayer beads.

"The Shadow Lodge? What? What? Treachery! This should not be! Surely we will track down the Eater of Flies and stop this nonsense! Count on us, Ospreay, never fear!"
Torvald Gallonica |
What, the Shadow Lodge, but that's just a myth surely! If not then how can we trust anyone....
Torvald looks around the many different Pathfinders who have made it back to the Lodge.

“I knew I could rely on you, Lord Flaxseed.” The Seeker named Osprey bows to the cavalier, *wincing* as he straightens up again.
“And of all Absalom’s citizens, Lady Mary Ann would be the one I’d trust with enough common sense to keep herself safe during this crisis.”
… how then how can we trust anyone ... any one of them could be a traitor...
“You bring up a number of valid concerns, Reverend.” Osprey nods in acknowledgement of Torvald’s insights.
“When I was a fledgling, a mean old pelican used to terrorize the goodly folk on the wharves of Diobel. Every scavenger and carrion eater wanted to join his gang, as a quick path to power and riches.”
“One day, Big Bill called out an unassuming, youthful member of the community, just to show everyone who the Biggest Baddest Bird was. The local hero tore the villain’s head off, in front of all of Diobel’s loyalists and waverers. And the whispers urging rebellion against Teriarch Arnsen were silenced along with their champion.”
Osprey begins handing out licenses, printed with each agent’s name, faction and a large ‘00’ symbol. “Now I want you to do to Charvion what that brave lad did in Diobel, while the Master of Scrolls and I secure Skyreach and keep an eye o… uhh, guard the Ten.”
“VC Shaine has divined that Charvion made a pact with the Black Dragon Matriarch, Zythrustianax. When Zyth shows up at the Grand Lodge, she should lead you straight to the Eater-of-Flies.”
Roland Garros |
Roland is too stunned to speak.
He looks from face to face, not sure he can trust Osprey, and having doubts in belonging to the Society if their own members cannot keep their oath.
How are we to believe any of zhis?
In the end, he resigns that he has no other viable choices but to follow the request.
Diri Lizzenbettolze |
Diri runs through a few probability models on a sheet or two of scratch paper.
"Do we have any estimate of the percentage of the agents which are shadow puppets versus the percentage of agents who are operating correctly?" Diri makes a sidelong glance at Calistan, who hasn't said too much since the adventure began. "More to the issue at hand is there any way to identify which side someone is on besides letting them attempt to interrupt the operation of your body?"
Shiradaz Ghaut |
Shiradaz listens to what Opsrey has to say, and looks out towards the mausoleum! "Do not worry Osprey! We shall light the way and burn away those who mean to harm the Society!"
Torvald Gallonica |
So you are expecting this black dragon to turn up and you want us to do what? Fight her, trail her somehow, make nice and chat her up? Who exactly is this Charvion and where can we find him?

Osprey listens attentively to Diri’s two-part question before replying simply, “Negative.”
"Do not worry Osprey! We shall light the way and burn away those who mean to harm the Society!"
The Seeker lays a hand on Shiradaz’s shoulder. “I’m counting on your zeal to be a beacon to guide others, brother.”
So you are expecting this black dragon to turn up and you want us to do what? Fight her, trail her somehow, make nice and chat her up? Who exactly is this Charvion and where can we find him?
“Oh Zythrustianax will show up, Reverend. You see, I slew her eldest son.”
Osprey gestures at the fallen dragon to his right.
“Use the dragon to lead you to the traitor Charvion, whom you are cleared to terminate with extreme prejudice. Deal with Zyth however you like – though obviously Pathfinder loyalists are responsible for the deaths of many of her clansfolk this night.”
“Charvion himself is a standard Pathfinder Agent like any of you.” Osprey *shrugs* “However, for whatever reasons he has decided the best way to achieve his ambitions is to turn his coat and slaughter dozens of innocent civilians.”
Calistan the Wanderer |
Calistan's eyes harden at the last words of Osprey. It appears that the idea of a traitor amongst the Society that has slain innocents and comrades is beyond the pale for the Trade Prince as he nods curtly to the Seeker and scans the sky for signs of Zythrustianax.
Roland Garros |
Roland also looks to the sky. Having fought a dragon before, he knows how dangerous even the small ones can be.
Zhe gods will need to help us if our very allies have turned against us!
Torvald Gallonica |
Very well, so, we need to fight or talk down a ruddy great dragon after you have killed off one of her children? She's likely to be pissed off yes? Well, we had best be prepared for her then...
Raising his hand to reveal the Symbol of Erastil tattooed there he invokes a blessing.
Lord, show me the way, let me move through your world unimpeded by those who oppose you so that I might strike down those who would destroy all you have built
]Casts Freedom of Movement on himself, duration 80 minutes. I have 1 communal resist energy I can use but it only has 80 minutes of duration divided in 10 minute increments. I could drop it now but to get everyone, including AC's means only 10 minutes each. I could drop it now or hold on to it, but my concern is if I wait until the dragon arrives it will end up being too late. Any views? Anyone else got any resists so we can spread it around more effectively?
Also, given it looks like we may have to fight a dragon if you have any unused long duration buffs now I would suggest is the time to use them.
Roland Garros |
Aye Torvald. It would definitely help if we knew how close zhe dragon is. I have no long-duration protective magics unfortunately.
Roland collects any loose arrows and ensure his bow and wand are both ready to go.

It’s safe to say the dragon spots your group’s approach. “HAVE THEY TOLD YOU WHO I AM?”

does the decision to fight, sneak or rush a group or individual decision? And if a group decision, did we already state it?
Roland looks up at the huge dragon and wonders if his team has the moxie to take it on.
Do we try to take it down or rush past? If we don't fight who will?
He looks to either side to get a reaction from the team and see if other, more seasoned agents are nearby.

Odds of survival and odds of victory are both pretty slim, here. I wonder if it can read minds.

Diri will move to be in less of a clustered bunch.

"Yeah, I'm all for not taking on that dragon. If someone wants to run in to grab it's attention or attack it, I'm happy to cast resist energy on them and support them in combat though."
Torvald Gallonica |
As they rush towards the Mausoleum Torvald invokes Erastil's name over and over. First he weaves a defensive barrier around the whole group, then he strengthens Ka's mighty talons and layers a shimmering field of green light over her feathers. Drawing a pearl on the run he replicates the last spell on himself, casts a couple of spells from scrolls, activates a wand and smashes a small vial over his spear.
Oh s##&, we are actually going to fight a bloody great dragon, and an angry one at that, maybe I can talk her down, it could be my greatest moment, my finest performance! Err, but what if it doesn't work...oh bloody hell I hate this part
As they approach the Mausoleum he casts one last spell oh s@&&, oh s!@#, ooh s%@# and explodes into the air flying forwards!
Casting the following as we move forward, on myself Shield of Faith (+3AC), Fly, Remove Fear (scroll), on Ka Shield of Faith, Remove Fear (scroll) and Bulls Strength, on everyone Communal Resist Energy (Acid) for Resist 20, Bless from a Wand and uses an Oil of Bless Weapon. The last two only last 1 minute so up to you whether they are still in effect by the time we get into the fighting, if we do.
I am all for fighting the dragon if that is what people want but I shall at least try to talk her down first, as doomed as that likely is
Torvald Gallonica |
As they approach the Mausoleum Torvald looks over his companions who have shown such courage so far but few of them have ever faced a foe as strong as this and, even with the magic protecting them he suspects they will not be able to stand against this monstrosity.
Quietly he whispers, my friends, make for the doors, I shall distract her, it is your only hope, you still need to stop Charvion, I shall delay her to allow your escape. With a low whistle he directs Ka to protect Diri.
Flying forward and rising 20' into the air so he can look her in the eye he swallows hard, driving down his fear.

It strikes at the heart of us, at the very core of who we are and why we strive. But know this, mighty ZYTHRUSTIANAX, we have lost also! Our brothers and sisters lie all around us, slain by you and your children and for why!
Heed my words Mighty ZYTHRUSTIANAX, this place is our home and we shall protect it. No more of us need to die this day, no more need to die for the schemes of Charvion Eater of Dust! I offer you this chance, depart this place in peace, let each of us mourn our dead and bury our brothers, our sisters, our children.
Heed my words Mighty ZYTHRUSTIANAX. This offer is made only once. As you know our family is large, we have many homes across the face of Golarion and WE REMEMBER! Remain here, and even if you are victorious more will come, death will beget death, vengeance will beget vengeance, and blood will flow until you and all of your family are no more.

The huge dragon is an imposing site, and has brought the small army to a bit of a standstill, some start trying to work out a way around – seeing a chance to make a break for the single door and hopefully passing through it to the safety of the mausoleum.

A small number of other journeymen Pathfinder seem equally set on following up on the charge with their steel also at the ready.

"Aye, I'm in agreement. Tis a personal code of mine to offer surrender when I can and when I think it prudent."
Order of the Blue Rose means Henry actually has to offer surrender to intelligent creatures first before his challenge can take effect. A lot of people would say it's one of the worst orders for that reason but I love the RP value of it.

The battle is joined with ferocity, he show is far more spectacular than the entertainment in the Irorium earlier.
The most seasoned Pathfinders appear to be faring well, and a small cohort of around a score are in lending them aid and trying to harry the dragon.
One enterprising group has simply abandoned all due care and has crashed the gates into the mausoleum, leaving the entrance wide open for any who can make it across the courtyard!

Diri moves forward trying to make the Pathfinders harder to cluster-bomb by the Dragon.

A mounted Henry makes peace overtures to the dragon, while Calistan boldly prepares to stride to death or glory!
In an intense scene of bravery, Torvald dares to advance on the angry dragon seeking to distract her from the rest of the party, giving them the opportunity to escape into the mausoleum.
“I CARE NOT WHAT YOUR NAME IS, LEST IT BE ‘BURNING CORPSE.’”
Zythrustianax’s tone is dangerously quiet. “YOU UNDERSTAND MY PAIN AT MY CHILDREN’S LOSS DO YOU? ARE YOU EVEN A PARENT? DID YOU CARRY THEM AS A PART OF YOUR BODY? LAY THEM? NURTURE THEM OVER DECADES? TEACH THEM TO BE YOUR LEGACY?”
“YOUR WORDS ARE AS HOLLOW AS THEY ARE INSULTING! BUT WHAT ELSE SHOULD I EXPECT FROM A PRIEST?”
This offer is made only once.
“JUST SO. FOR YOU MUST LIVE TO MAKE IT TWICE.”

The dragon *ROARS* at this latest threat. “TAKE A LOOK AROUND!”
“YOUR FAMILY CANNOT EVEN DEFEND ITSELF … FROM ITSELF!”

“YOU ASSUME I WANT PEACE … AND DISLIKE VIOLENCE. NEITHER OF THOSE THINGS IS TRUE. AND I HAVE PONDERED WHETHER THERE IS A BETTER WAY FOR CENTURIES.”
”CHARVION PROMISED ME SLAUGHTER, SOULS AND SLAVES AND SO FAR HAS LARGELY KEPT HIS WORD.”
The dragon squats as if readying to pounce. “WHILE YOUR ENDING IS HERE AND NOW, THE STRUGGLE FOR POWER THROUGH VIOLENCE NEVER ENDS!”
Zythrustianax brings her tail down on the mausoleum roof like a *THUNDERCLAP* showering Diri, Ka and Torvald in broken shingles and nails. With a flap of her immense wings, the dragon then glides off the roof towards the center of the courtyard.

Seeing his charge attacked by the great beast Ka charges at the dragon screeching like a doomed banshee!
PA Charge Bite: 1d20 + 13 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 13 + 2 - 2 = 29
Damage: 1d8 + 9 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 4 = 19
I assume the will fails so the attack is 2 lower
Just a reminder to everyone, we all have resist acid 20 so I think Roland should have taken 7 less, not that it will matter much for long!

Dodging away from the falling Masonry Torvald makes for the Mausoleum.
As he does he looks to the dragon. Yes, I have a family, children and grand children. I am saddened to see you choose death for yours for no good can come of this...
Turning to his companions he calls out, We cannot survive for long against this creature. Take cover people, the mausoleum may provide our only hope!
Torvald flies to the near door and tries to open it, I am provoking (as is Ka) if that matters.
My that's an enormous attack bonus for tier 8-9!

Yes it is!
Diri channels healing to everyone in the courtyard except Torvald, but including Zythrustianax!
Torvald, Ka and Diri dodge most of the falling roofing. Torvald rushes towards the safety of the open doorway.
The doorway is open, Torvald.
The Dragon does not strike out at the cleric or his animal companion as they pass.
Ka! makes a desperate charge at the Dragon to cover his master’s retreat but unfortunately his beak’s sharp edge is repulsed by iron-hard scales.
Round #2:
1. Roland, Diri, Calistan, Shiradaz, Henry, Torvald + Ka!
2. ZYTHRUSTIANAX
Roland: 76 - 27 - 22 + 11 = 38/76 hp No acid dmg + Diri channel
Shiradaz: ☤ Full Health ☤ + Will DC 22 or shaken
Diri: shaken
Ka: shaken
Torvald: 58/67 hp
Shiradaz & Henry are up! DC 22 Will saves required from Shiradaz, Henry and Indiana too.

If the door is open then I shall fly through and take total defence in the doorway. I will call Ka to get in here after he has attacked and hopefully distracted the beast! That should take me to 32AC if she comes after me which might one attack misses
