Rooms explored so far:
6. Living Room
The floor of this filthy chamber is made of rough floorboards. Numerous gaps between them show a dark space below the building. A large pile of furs and straw is heaped to the south, and a huge trap door sits in the very center of the room. To the west, a single ill-fitting door hangs askew on a single hinge.

7. Guffy’s Room
A huge, bloodstained table sits in the center of this filthy kitchen, and to the south lies a heap of furs arranged in the rough approximation of a mattress. The place reeks of rotten meat from numerous poorly executed taxidermy projects that lie scattered around the room, including partially stuffed pigs, birds, bobcats, and even a goblin body with a mass of bloody straw and sticks protruding from its neck instead of a head.

The heroes have beaten the ferret in the living room, and Guffy in her personal room. Chuffy found new armor, and Reta took Chuffy's old magic cloak.

After another quick search you conclude you've found all there is to find in these rooms. Neither of the rooms gives access to the higher floors of the building.

Made a small error! There's one thing left to investigate in room 6: there's a trapdoor in the floor, which leads to room 5.

5. Pen

The straw is 8 feet deep and very dusty. The distance between the muddy ground and the underbelly of the house above is 9 feet. The trap door above is unlocked, but there’s no obvious or easy way to reach it once down.

If you choose this option your map will stay the one below my name. You will move to area 5 if you go into the new room.

4. The Hen Houses

Three decrepit henhouses slump battered in the mud here. The nervous clucking of several chickens can be heard from within. The henhouses are filthy, and accessed by narrow openings that only a Small sized (or smaller) creature can easily pass through. The walls of the henhouses are rotten.

If you choose this option, here's a new map.

Of course you're also free to ignore these options, and do something else instead!

When Reta looks inside the room her eyes fall on the creature that's made its nest there. Its body is mostly that of a bear, but its head is that of an owl. The beast is awake, and raises its head to look at Reta. It growls softly.

Mogmurch takes one of the gourds of fire burping and consumes its contents. He then walks over to Poog so he can move to the trapdoor with a 5 foot step when he wants to attack. "I ready for fire burping! Chieftain shooty-shoot first for sneaky effects?"

The beast is aware of you and will (try to) react after the first hostile action you take. I'll allow 1 goblin to attack the beast in this 'surprise' round, after which I'll roll initiative for the others.

As a reminder:

Gourd of fire burping:
A lesser version of the elixir of fire breath, a gourd of fire burping can be imbibed as a normal elixir or, in the case of a user with a large enough mouth and low enough standards, be completely consumed in one crunchy gulp. Once the user has consumed the gourd, she can immediately expel a belch of fire in a 15-foot cone, dealing 2d6 points of fire damage to all creatures in the area. A successful DC 12 Reflex save halves the damage. If the user elects not to use the fire breath at once, she can store the breath for up to an hour before it dissipates.

Chuffy steps back out of the creatures sight and nods to his cohorts, "Buuuuurn"

He notches an arrow and then attempts to sneak afterwards.

What I'm shooting for here, is to get out of los, attempt to stealth once combat begins and the owlbear is distracted, then open up with an arrow+sneak. Make sense?

Makes sense. I take it that means chieftain Chuffy want Mogmurch to take the surprise attack.

Mogmurch walks over to the trapdoor and looks down. He waits some time, then evil grin on his face widening. "Fire burping now!"

Fire Burp: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8

A cone of fire comes from Mogmurch's mouth, englulfing the beast in the room below.

@Poog: Mogmurch's attack was meant just to harm the beast, but I'm not saying you couldn't try.

Squealy Nord, unable to do much in this situation, freaks out closes and his eyes in an attempts to hide. "Oinky! Oink-oink!"

"I can't see you! So you can't see me!"

"Ok...." Reta replys with a twitch in her eye and a slight sweat drop but she fires an arrow anyway...

Reta shoots from an impossible angle, and thus misses. The beast then moves closer to the trapdoor, kicking up some dust. While the room below fills with dust the large beast raises itself on its hind legs. Albeit with effort, the beast manages to reach the goblins directly next to the trapdoor.

It swings one claw at Reta, and a claw at Mogmurch. When both claws miss target the beast tries to bite Mogmurch, but the angle provides difficulties and the beast misses again.

The beast is Large size, meaning it can reach the goblins next to the trapdoor: the ceiling of the room it's in is 9 feet tall. Keep this in mind when using ranged attacks while next to the trapdoor, because it's practically standing next to you.


Is the hay burning after that firebreath?

Chuffy sneaks forward, trying to get within 30' of the beast without being seen and then looses an bolt. Hindsight after I typed this. During this or last round I need Chuffy to load the xbow. If I couldn't do it last round, then I'll do it this round and then fire next round. If I could last round as I was drawing the weapon, then let the attack be for the next round. Also, as a point of note, I am on vacation, so I will either be on point or slow (last few days were hopefully the end of the slow ones)

Chuffy's arrow hits the beast and pierces its hide. The beast howls in pain: "Rookoo! Rookoo! Ohhww!"

The beast, while on fire, squeezes itself between the logs supporting the house in order to exit the room. Once outside it starts rolling in the dirt to quench the fire. Meanwhile the room the goblins are in begins to fill with smoke.

Squealy Nord starts panicking and resumes his squealing: "Oink! Oink-oink! Oooiiinnk!"

Reta takes point, after taking a gulp of fire water.


Reta retrieves an elixir of fire burping from one of her pockets (move action) and drinks it (standard action). She then keeps standing in her current position.

All other goblins don't move either, and time passes. Squealy Nord starts squealing even louder while the flames in the room below start to rise.
