"Nothing on this side of things!" Liam calls from behind the hut. Then, seeing the smoke that looks suspiciously like it might be coming from a fire, as a good Investigator, he dashes around to the other side of the hut to investigate.

"Fire!" Captain Obvious exclaims to anybody who may have rolled a natural 1 on their perception check. ;-)

Liam flicks his wrist, sending his wand into his free hand. He then moves and taps Wulfren with it.

Ic's eyes twinkle as he plays with fire. He tries t figure out where the little voice came from, and releases another burst from the wand.

Veviane grabs the smoldering blanket off the bed and starts using it to put out the flames on part of the bed!

Wulfren returns the favor, running his longsword deeply into the angry fey woodsman! The blow, which would likely be a mortal wound for a human however seems not to faze the creature much at all! No confirm, sorry.

Anaristiel puts her spear away and tries some firefighting! Her magic summons water soaking its target and putting out the flames there!

Liam deftly moves in, dodging and attack from the fey creature healing Wulfren!

Ic tries to focus in on the flaming faerie and releases another cone of fire, though fails to hear a satisfying sizzle this time!

Though some of the fire has been put out, the fires continue to burn as most of the hut seems to be quite flammable!

Ic realizes too late the Gire has flown behind him, as the tiny fey appears in a shimmer and tries to stab him with her tiny rapier!

She laughs manically, even though you can see she is badly burned. In another shimmer of color she vanishes again and you can hear her tiny wings flapping wildly.

Theaven swings again at Wulfren! A wicked smile crosses his face at the sight of the blood! And I believe that takes Wulfren down at -1?

Torn, Liam sends a brief prayer to the gods, hoping his friends can keep the fire under control as he aids their fallen companion. He then taps Wulf with his wand again.

Wulfren falls down from the bitter axe wound, but then his eyes snap open again as the healing powers of Liam's wand wash over him again!

Wulfren waits to see if the woodsman swipes at Liam before attempting to stand.

Any knowledge check to ID this guy and his abilities/weaknesses?. You've described him as fey, but that's not something I'd necessarily know in character.

With the martial threat inside the hut neutralized, the Orphans turn their attention to the spreading fire making good progress in controlling it!

Ic is unable to locate the invisible, fluttering creature.

Veviane is able to recall tales of tiny fey women know as atomie, and beside being able to turn invisible they are susceptible to cold iron weapons.

The heat is still palpable inside the primitive, one-room hovel. Tinder from the fireplace is strewn about, smoldering embers strewn everywhere. The room itself is in shambles. An eviscerated human body sprawls across the floor, and a butchered wolf lies against the wall by the front door. Puddles of blood surround them. The man’s hands are tied to a rough wooden table, upon which sits an ornate—but empty—box and a blood-spattered manuscript.

Wulfren and Ic study the dead man and wolf, both of whom where cut open with a sharp object. It is likely that Thaven's axe was that object. Hemzel's hands are bound. The sight is pretty gruesome, with puddles of partially cooked blood staining what's left of the huts floor. The wolf, probably trying to protect its companion has a several deep, slashes cut into its brown fur.

Anaristiel detects no auras outside the hut, however she does feel some inside the hut. Searching under the table while Veviane and Liam look over the manuscript, Anaristiel finds: a potion of barkskin +2, a potion of bear’s endurance, and two scrolls of lesser restoration.

Liam studies the manuscript, but between its slightly charred state and apparently liberal use of druidic shorthand, he isn't able to make much of it. He manages to pick out what he thinks are several entries where Hemzel is writing about the lorestone and how it is specially attuned to druidic magic circles. Such circles are holy places to druids.

Talking it over with Veviane, she is able to put more sense to the cramped scrawl that is Hemzel's handwriting. She picks out a reference to a druidic circle two or three hours north of here, located on a small island on lake. She also picks out the name Cyflymder in reference to some recent harassment he'd been receiving from a few different fey creatures, threatening to destroy the lorestone. According to Hemzel's notes, a lorestone is somewhat unstable when exposed to sunlight, and inside a druid's circle it would turn to dust in just a few minutes of such exposure.

Liam scratches his chin, absent mindedly creating another shield extract. "Iff'n that's the case, we should hurry on ta the one mentioned; we cannae be too far behind the ruffians."

Liam your survival and inspiration is appropriate, but will get preempted by this...we'll come back to it though :)

As the Orphans get their bearings and prepare to head off to this Druid Circle located on an island in the middle of lake...

To the south, just where you had recently yourselves passed voices can be heard. Voices that a growing closer, and louder. "See Boomroppel, I told you I smelled smoke!" A group of four gnomes come into view. One of them begins shouting: "Hemzel! Hemzel where are you?" Seeing the group standing there in front of the hut he directs his questions at you. "Coupla humans, an elf and a ... oh my, tiefling. Well you listen here. This here is Hemzel's hut. What are you lot doing here?"

Two of the other gnomes behind the leader are muttering to each other softly.

As the Orphans try to explain the situation to the gnomes, it's obvious that they are stewing on their anger and seemingly not that interested in what you are saying...

Wulfren adds in a few bits about the axe-wielding madman, showing his wounds.

The Orphans set out toward the nameless lake in search of the island that contains the druid's circle. Moving at a nearly non-stop pace, Wulfren and Liam are able to track their way long fairly easily. Based on Liam's prior roll.

The thick trees, brush, and brambles of the Verduran Forest finally give way to a glassy lake with a small tree-studded island just thirty feet offshore. An improvised bridge of mossy logs stretches toward the island from the near shore, though some of the trunks have tipped nearly vertical into the water, leaving gaps along the makeshift bridge.
