Alafair's Bluff: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 2 = 16
The servant does not allow himself to be pushed aside by neither Alafair or Filios. He maintains a warrior's stance as he fill up the doorway.
"I'm sure you are, Lady. But you are not expected and we are currently occupied with other... matters. Let me know where you are staying and we shall call upon you with a more... formal appointment."
Filios Philandril |
Come now, my good man, the Lady would surely not mind waiting. I would think you would garner more favor from your employer by allowing someone as esteemed as my benefactor to sit in patience until we could be seen. The face that you will lose will no doubt be far worse than allowing us to wait inside, than if you dismiss such an important guest out of turn.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Lacaw Brokewing |
Lacaw remains silent, but does his best to look beyond the servant after taking a moment to asses the man.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Roary Flamebearer |
Roary maintains his "I'll beat your ass look" but does not speak..
Nebten |
Filios's honeyed words softens the doorman to tilt his head ever-so-slightly in the party's direction with an arched eyebrow. Lacaw's raven eyes notice a upward curve of his lips as he opens the door wide to allow the party passage into Rutowski's townhouse.
Almoch escorts everybody to the study. This room is squared with dark maroon walls, walnut trim with brocade rugs on its floor. Arrangements of plush velvet and leather couches provide comfortable seating, while a crackling fireplace creates a cozy feel. A small, glass topped bar in the corner boasts an elegant collection of vintage brandies and fine elven wines.
A fine-featured gentleman of mixed Taldan and Ustalavic descent reclines on a fainting couch, though his pointed ears and upturned eyes betray an even more exotic ancestry. He gently lays aside the book in his hand. Markov Rutowski glares at the party with unfriendly disdain.
“You’re clearly not locals, nor are you expected. I know only Pathfinders to be so bold. Your fearless little Society has already taken enough from me. Leave or I will call the guards.”
Lacaw Brokewing |
"Kaw! I am Lacaw of he Brokewing tribe. I am not so good with the common tongue so please excuse any mis-speakings. I see you are reading, I believe the written word to be the greatest gift ever bestowed to all thinking-creatures." the tengu pauses a moment before looking hard at the courtesan.
"I, Lacaw, read also." the bird man says resolutely poking himself in the chest. "I read the posture of your manservant the instant he opened the door. He is a formally trained fighter, yes? Kaw! He could protect you and your beautiful nest very well Lacaw would wager. But what of your tribe, this town and place? Warrior-Servant save everyone? Help us find the path to what you've lost so that it can be returned to you. It is the right thing, yes."
Diplomacy? Unsure, just talking mostly: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (13) - 3 = 10
Perception, Room at a Glance?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Sense Motive against Markov, the angry lover!: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Kaw. Oh boy, stop waggling tongues Brokewing. Watch, listen.
Ruprecht Antillious |
Ruprecht saw the bird man spinning and not having much effectiveness. Thing is, he couldn't do much better, so he chose to let the silence continue on. And on.
Waiting for a diplomatic character to kick things off. Ru will try to aid.
Ulflafa Numbgelge |
Ulflafa kneels down so be at eye level with the sitting man. We are not here to deal the past, but the future. Former associates of a fried of yours are turning up dead. We mean to put an end to this, before anyone else dies. While we would prefer to save your old companion, he cannot be permitted to kill again, and you could well be his next victim unless you help us.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
It would help if I could roll higher than a 2.
Filios Philandril |
We are very concerned for your safety, as well as the safety for other innocents. All we ask is that you tell us where we can find Vonran Vilk. We know that you are close to him, and we will do everything we can to deter further bloodshed.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Ruprecht Antillious |
"Indeed...we have heard you two were confidantes. Please help us locate him. we are trying to keep him out of trouble."
Aid another Diplomacy 1d20 ⇒ 10
Nebten |
The Northwoman request for help leaves Markov cold. He warms up to Filios's pleas along with Ruprecht's assistance and Lacaw's jovial manner. Rutowski sighs and closes his book, gesturing to the other overstuffed chairs and divans that fill the room.
“Forgive me. I sometimes forget that it was Ardis’s machinations that took my beloved away from me, and not the Pathfinder Society itself. I shall try to help you however I can.”
“I do not know where he is currently. He was here, however. Not five days ago he stood where you are now, ranting and raving about Judge Pradowca and her lofty position. He was… so different from the Vonran I loved. So cold—hate just roiling off of him. If you are here to help him, do so. Please.”
Lacaw Brokewing |
"Forgive us, for having met your acquaintance under such dire circumstances and many thanks on our behalf, kaw, this is a lead we can use." Lacaw says as eloquently as he can muster.
I skimmed the build up and saw no mention of said Judge, assuming she isn't a victim, or yet.
"We should make our way to see this Pradowca Judge, yes?"
Alafair Stormborn |
Still a bit taken aback that the courtesan they were sent to see is a man, Alafair recovers enough to ask, "Aren't you worried for your own safety? If Vilk has changed as much as you say, and his former acquaintances are dropping, won't you be on that list? Do you need protection?"
Nebten |
"My dear, I would fear for those whom Vonran bears a grudge toward, though the worst offenders moved on decades ago to Caliphas. Of all his remaining accusers, Judge Cevianna Pradowca is the worst. She bore a grudge against Vonran for refusing to wed her and so she turned her courtroom into a weapon against him. She’s the one who handed down his banishment from Ustalav after all. I wager he’ll hunt her next. So as you can see, I'll be fine. Of course and strong arm and locked door do have their advantages."
Alafair Stormborn |
Nodding as the man declines protection, Alafair can only agree with Lacaw. The next stop is likely with the spurned judge, Cevianna Pradowca. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, dear Markov. If you are ever in Taldor, do look me up, I am sure we have lots to discuss."
Even in far off lands, Alafair remembers her manners and drops a small curtsy to the "lord" of the house before setting off with the others. Along the way, she recalls if she knows anything about Judge Pradowca.
Know Local: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 yeesh, lousy roll...
Filios Philandril |
The dicebot is not your friend so far, Alafair.
Filios bows deeply.
Thanks you, mi'Lord. We will do what we can to help Vonran. Please do put your guards on high alert and double them, if you can. While you may feel protected, we are not certain that Vonran is entirely himself these days. Where can we find Judge Pradowca?
Roary Flamebearer |
Roary nods and in a heavy northern accent he says.. "Thanks.." before turning to leave.. Lol sorry but this one is not a social bird.. He's loyal but not good with words.. When the fighting starts he'll pull his weight..
Ruprecht Antillious |
"Thank you for your assistance. I hope we can help Vonran before more trouble occurs."
Lacaw Brokewing |
Social Bird, kaw! :)
As we leave I explain to my allies the meaning behind what I said about the manservant to the courtesan.
Everyone can read the Sense Motive tabs with my name on them above in regards to the manservant and the courtesan, as I fill in the other Pathfinders
Nebten |
After given reassurances that you are here to help Vonran, Markov offers the group gifts and political favors for future endeavors. As the Pathfinders are escorted outside, a gust of chilled wind blows through as the twilight sets in. The full moon begins to peak from behind the hills. Somewhere in the distance, an eerie howl echoes through the streets.
Alafair remembers that in Ardis, as in many cities, judges lodge in their respective courthouses. After asking a few of the locals, our heroes discover that Judge Pradowca’s courtroom lies in the city center, halfway across the city from Rutowski’s townhouse.
Mist begins to creep back from the shadows after the sun as the Pathfinder pace the streets to their destination. The black granite edifice of the courthouse looms high above its enclosing wall, though a gate ahead stands ajar. A scream breaks the evening’s silence, and upon the wide, stone steps two figures fall prone. A third, hulking form unleashes a furious howl before bounding to the roof and through an open skylight. The courthouse door stands ajar, and a low growling echoes from somewhere within.
Lacaw Brokewing |
"We're too late, kaw!" the tengu says to his companions, "Let's hurry, we might still have time, by the grace of Apsu."
Lacaw cranes his neck towards the skylight curiously, and adds, "If friends would like, Lacaw will climb up and use my natural ancestral gift of gliding to come in from above? Or would you prefer to stay together? Safety in numbers, but time is of the essence..." the bird man puzzles aloud, looking to the others for quick advice.
Perception, general area + trying to guess at climbability: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Ruprecht Antillious |
Ruorecht doesn't hesitate, and sprints through the open door to the courthouse. "Go through the roof if you want," the elf shouts, as he ducks out of sight in the door.
Lacaw Brokewing |
Lacaw keeps up with the others, still glancing upward trying to determine if climbing this structure is within his skills.
Roary Flamebearer |
Drawing his silver earthbreaker Roary heads off as well..
Nebten |
The dark courtroom looks like a scene out of a nightmare. A young woman, perhaps twenty, lies on the floor with her throat torn out. Across the room, a well-preserved older woman stands atop her bench, supporting a bleeding arm and swinging a ceremonial blade erratically. Four slobbering mongrels, each as much dog as wild wolf, circle her makeshift tower.
"Do you know who I am. Do. You. Know?!? Ahhhh!"
Roary: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Lacaw: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Filos: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Ulflafa: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Ruorecht: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Alafair: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Shadowblood Wolfhounds: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Filos is up! Map is at the top of the board. All funture would be cosidered hindered terrian. There is a wall behind the judges desk and chair.
Filios Philandril |
Round 1, Charge (AC: 20), Power Att, Flanking, Sneak Att
Filios charges to a flanking position to the right front diagonal on Pluto. (Please move my Icon. i cannot do so at work. Thanks)
CB Att: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 9 + 2 - 2 = 22
CB Dam: 1d10 + 4 + 5 + 3d6 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 5 + (3, 3, 1) = 24
Nebten |
Filios, you cannot charge through occupied squares. And when you charge, you have to do so to the nearest square point of the attack of your opponent. Ulflafa, you are not up.
Filios dances in-between Roary and Ulflafa. With curved blade in hand, he barely reaches the far right hound. The rogue catches the canine by surprise and cuts a long strike into dark crimson coat.
Pluto retaliates by rearing up to bear fangs and claws.
Pluto bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Pluto Claw 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Pluto Claw 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Still in shock from its bloodied wound, Pluto is unable to land a notable attack.
Sensing one of their own injured, Scooby turns to defend his wolf brother.
Scooby bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Scooby Claw 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Scooby Claw 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Scooby must have got some of Pluto's blood in his eye, because he couldn't hit the elf either.
Brian and Astro pull away from the judge to lend aid as well.
Brian bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Astro bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
... And a mouthful of nothing.
Ulflafa charges forward striking the first wolfhound before her. She crashes into it with might and fury creating a large cracking sound it its back.
Everybody BUT Ulflafa may now go!
Ruprecht Antillious |
Ruprecht moves forward, drawing his spear as he attacks Brian.
Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Filios Philandril |
I know all of that, GM Nebten, but I could not see the entirety of the map from work. Our icons were off the grid. So, I did not know who was in front of me, or the actual distance. Thanks for clarifying.
Lacaw Brokewing |
Lacaw quork's an inutterable word of prayer to his foreign god, invoking Divine favor. He rushes with beasteial ferocity to the aid of his allies - swinging a massively talon'd claw at the throat of the nearest hound. a swirling golden aura envelops the tengu.
Lacaw will try to Monster Identify these pups. Divine Favor granting +3/+3 Luck bonus to attack. Cast as Swift Action with Ferver Point. Move forward with acrobatics to Avoid an Attack of Opprotunity as I leave Ulflafa's square, attack.
Knowledge Religion? Want to identify if they look undead? Lacaw is unsure. Max 10: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3

As the battle ensues, a loud "KAW"can be heard by all as the exotic Dragonpriest leaps into the middle of the carnage.
Divine Favor 10/10
Roary Flamebearer |
I assume your using the fates favored trait to bump the DF Lacaw but at your level it would only be +3, not +4.. 9th level is when you get the +4.
Roary will move and hop the railing and attack Brian.. Raging as he goes.. Looks like a flank with Filios as well.
Jump: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Rage, PA, Flank: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27 Attacking with Mwk Silver Earthbreaker
Dam: 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (6, 5) + 16 = 27 +2 if it's a spellcaster
Nebten |
Ruprecht's aim is true, but he only hits Brian's heel.
Lacaw is unsure what these canines are but they do appear to be living, breathing animals. He dips and jukes his way into position before landing among the fray. Lacaw nearly takes an eye out with his claw o'doom.
Roary runs and jumps into position, catching Brian by surprise. His Earthsbreaker soon becomes filled with brain matter as the maul kills Brian.
Alafair is up.
Nebten |

Lacaw Brokewing |
Edited to add; I type my responses in Notepad and paste them here because my window on the Paizo forums will randomly reset itself withouut warning and I'll end up losing 10 minutes retyping. Lacaws last turn included a Swift Action Cat's Grace (Ferver Casting does not provoke) bringing Claw damage to 17 per as posted and boosing my AC and Reflex Saves by 2. I guess when I cut and pasted that line got cut. Should clear up any confusions
Divine Favor 8 rounds remain.
Cat's Grace
Lacaw shakes blood from his claws, his claws a sticky mess.
Alafair Stormborn |
Seeing the courtroom is a clutter of melee, Alafair calls on her Magic Missile, a series of unerring bolts of electrical force energy emanating from her lithe form and flying towards the fierce hounds. The sorceress advances to the bar rail as she casts
Move Action to advance, Standard Action to cast Magic Missile. At 5th level that is three bolts, targeting Scooby.
Magic Missile @ Scooby: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 3, 1) + 3 = 11
