Ethendril, despite being past his prime, will accept no other position in the marching order than on the front line. He appears eager to set out.

Silver Crusade

Since the party is ready to go, your host leads you down the narrow, twisting cliffside path to the Godsmouth Ossuary. You pass through the mouth of the Unnamed Kingnoted. (You literally walk into the mouth of one of the giant skulls in the picture!!!) The doors in here are made of strong wood bound in iron.

The upper levels of the Godsmouth Ossuary used by the church of Pharasma are richly decorated burial chambers, well lit with everburning torches and regularly cleaned and maintained by the clergy. The bodies interred here are wrapped in the finest linens and reverently placed in countless stone niches lining the walls. These luxuriously appointed catacombs are packed with bodies.

You continue down several stairways before coming to an area that obviously sees little use--most of the burial niches are empty and dusty, the air is musty and close, and silence reigns supreme. In this disused portion of the crypts, Valanthe stops before a locked door. She explains, "Friends, this is the only known entrance to the sealed lower portions of the ossuary. Once you enter, the door will be locked behind you." (Because of this restriction, you will be unable to leave the ossuary to rest and resupply between encounters.)

Valanthe gives each of you a potion of cure light wounds and a vial of holy water. You may divide these up however you wish. (Use these supplies wisely; you will be unable to replace them.)

Valanthe then hands you a hollow mithral tube about 1 foot long-—a chime of opening with 5 charges remaining. "Make sure you save at least 1 charge to get through this door again on your way out. The priests will not open the door for you if you don’t have the chime, as they have no way of seeing through the locked door to recognize you or determine whether something has turned you into mindless undead."

With this warning given, Valanthe draws a large iron key from beneath her robes and unlocks the door. The Godsmouth Ossuary awaits.

Serwe thanks the priestess and recites a few minor prayers to Pharasma.

Guidance myself, will refresh as needed. Since I'm small and we're walking through what sounds like low-light, I'd like to place myself 2nd or 3rd in the marching order so that I can use you tall folks for stealth. If this is good with everyone my passive stealth while we search is 24. Serwe carries a wand in one hand and the other is empty. As far as Healing, I can Healing Hex each of you 1/day and I have some Curative wands etc. Ready when you all are. As we enter I will recite a Scroll of Mage Armor, giving me an hour of +4 AC, 1 hour.

"Sir Dydimus, that is excellent news. I do hope for all of our sakes no one buried a beloved pet dragon in the Ossuary. A dragon made of bone would be a fearsome thing! Yes, I believe, avoiding bone dragons is on Auntie Serwe'e to-do list today."

Bone Dragon! That's amazing! Do your really thing we'll fight one? Perhaps I'll name my sword 'Bone Carver' or Skull Shatterer.. No, not that, too long. Serwe Do you know the name of this Bone Dragon? Does he have a terrible and horrific history? How did he end up down here? Is it guarding a cursed treasure? Maybe there will be an amulet, or something, that will turn one of us into a fierce blood thirsty monster like a Bugbear or a Troglodyte. I've heard that Troglodytes smell so bad that it can make you sick from one sniff. Do you think we'll fight any Troglodytes down here?....etc.

The party walks and chats as they enter the Ossuary. (map) The door grinds open despite long years of disuse. Within, a stone spiral staircase descends into the earth...

Confirming marching order:
Ethendril => Dydimus => Serwe => Olga

The spiral stairway descends 60 feet down a cramped vertical shaft. There is a narrow gap between the stairs and the corners of the square shaft, but it is too small for a Medium character to fit and a tight space for a Small character.

This is the surprise round:

As this creature falls seemingly out of nowhere (it was hidden in the gap between the stairs and the wall), it opens like a hideous octopus, its thin, hook-lined tentacles connected by a fleshy web.

Suddenly, everything gets really dark. (Magical lights provide no illumination. Torches, lanterns are one step dimmer.)

Slam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 , Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3 , Grab: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Serwe takes 3 HP of slam damage, but is able to avoid being wrapped up by this enemy, for now...

"I fear such trickery will not work on any undead abominations we encounter but I have other tricks up my sleeves, yes." the little woods-witch says sagely. Her hands instinctively go to her pipe which she packs with a blend of herbs before lighting and inhaling deeply.

No problem! Also, I almost forgot Cornelia has Darkvision.

After the creature is dispatched and Cornelia has an opportunity to glance at the creature, she lets out a gasp of fright. "Oh, such a foul creature!" The rest of the party hears a quiet whisper from around them. "Madness."

The young Chelaxian stiffs upon hearing the voice. "No... Be gone!" she screams into the tunnels as her loose clothing ripples with an unfelt breeze. Suddenly she takes a deep breath and closes her eyes for a moment before releasing her breath and smoothing out her clothing. She straightens her back and looks at her companions. "I am terribly sorry for my outburst. You did well with your abilities, Serwe."

Cornelia will offer to carry a torch if need be. She isn't a melee combatant and that will allow our meleers to have both hands open for whatever they need.

Silver Crusade

The party makes their way down the rest of the stairs without incident. They enter the next room.

Old carvings cover the walls of this square chamber, thick with dust and cobwebs. Three sets of stone double doors stand in the three facing walls. Heavy bronze seals emblazoned with the symbol of Pharasma secure the doors against whatever lies beyond.

Entering the room cautiously, Ethendril runs his gauntlet over the dusty symbols.

"This place seems truly ancient," he says. "Though I do not follow Pharasma, all must respect her. We will stop any that dare defile this sanctuary," he adds.

He examines the three sets of doors with interest.

"Looks like we have a decision to make. Which set of doors should we try?"

Unlike the doors you've encountered thus far, these are stone. The symbol pf Pharasma set upon them glows very slightly. Even before Ethendril's gauntlet runs over them, he can feel the thrum of magic emanating from them.

Cornelia, Olga, and Serwe immediately recognize that the symbols are some kind of Arcane Lock. Casting Detect Magic upon it lets you "see" an aura far greater than what you would expect from a 2nd level spell.

Serwe further recognizes that he engravings are references to the seven runelords of ancient Thassilon.

She also knows that, because of the unusually strong aura of magic that she can "see," it will be very difficult for the party to overcome without using the chime of opening--though it is possible. (Disable Device check or Caster Level check using Knock or Dispel Magic) Willing the door to open fails.

Taking 20, Cornelia can get a 27 on her Disable Device checks.
I can attempt that first, before we use the charges.

Ethendril observes quietly as Cornelia attempts to disable to lock.

"Shall we try the chime of opening?" he says. If she fails...otherwise he says "Well done!" Also, which door are we opening?

Silver Crusade

Taking 20 on this lock means that it takes a long time. (Time: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3) In this case, 60 rounds--or 6 minutes.

Sources: Disable Device and Take 20

1) Does the group agree to take 20 on the lock?
2) Did anybody check for traps first?
3) What are the rest of you doing for 60 rounds?
4) And which door do you want to try?

Nothing to see here:
1d20 ⇒ 14
1d20 ⇒ 12
1d20 ⇒ 1
1d20 ⇒ 14

I think Cornelia would check the door for traps before she attempts to open it; however, she does not have a very good Perception... I think she'll try to right door first.

After she examines the right door, she turns back to the rest of the group. "There doors do not have any type of normal mundane locks upon them. I may be able to open them manually by picking the locks; however, perhaps one of you would be able to assist me to ensure there are not any hidden traps which may remove my hands?"

Count me in! Not sure if I want to bring Dydimus or not... give me a bit to figure that out.

Silver Crusade

Sure! Whenever you're ready. Before we hit the first combat encounter, I invite you to switch / try out characters as you see fit.

Hey guys, I've got a Dark Tapestry oracle I would like to bring along! I need to whip up her profile sheet and whatnot. Just need to put a few finishing touches on her, but here's a link to what I have completed this far. If she's not complete enough or you guys don't want to wait, I understand!

This Alek by the way!

You have a few days to decide. And my invitation to "test drive" characters before the first combat encounter applies to all of you. I have a big event on Sunday, so I'll probably start this module either Sunday evening or Monday morning.

In the meantime, feel free to RP or whatever else you wish to do. :-D

I'm sure a couple of you have played or run this module before. I'm going to try to play up the "creepy" stuff and inject some suspense throughout the adventure. I'm not sure how well that will work, because eventually I just get silly... ;-P

Perfect I'll bring Sir Dydimus then. I have a Con this weekend and was hesitant to tie him up in a pbp. I'm planning on playing him at least onece so I'll be 2nd level. Probably won't be able to post until Monday Morning (EST).

Shadow Lodge

Female Wayang Witch 2|HP 16/16|AC14 FF11 T14|Spd 20, Small|Percep +2|Init +5|F:2 R:3 W:3 |

I'll also probably play Serwe at game night at my local gaming shop. She'll be fine for sunday we always finish a module In 1 sitting, It will put her at level 2 also most likely.

Okay... Finally have the sheet all whipped up. I just need to transfer it all over to her profile and create the account. I will try to do so tomorrow, but if not... It may be a few more days, possibly Monday as I will be out of town Friday/Saturday. Just a little heads up.

As far as the concept goes... She's an archivist by day and a relic retriever by night for the Dark Archives. Her mind was assaulted by a strange artifact her mother found, and it broke her mind slightly; however, it also opened her mind to strange, yet potent powers.

Silver Crusade

Yep! You guys are good to go. We won't lock anybody in until after this weekend's convention is over. :-)

My local VC is going to the same convention as Sir Dydimus. I asked him to say "Hi" and mentioned that we've been playing scenarios in the PbP message boards.

Shadow Lodge

Female Wayang Witch 2|HP 16/16|AC14 FF11 T14|Spd 20, Small|Percep +2|Init +5|F:2 R:3 W:3 |

I think we're playing the Silverhex Chronicles, the free download Numerian module thing with 5-6 small encunter scenarios. Serwe is going to River Kingdoms! I'm stoked. Speaking of which if any of you get a chance to jump into Iron Gods I highly recommend it. I'm playing in a couple different PBP AP's (I like it that much). As an introduction to technology in Golarion it works wonderfully, taking a slow approach as players find one or two "alien artifacts" at a time. It's subtle :)

That's pretty cool, Serwe. I find the Dark Archives much more appealing than the Cheliax faction. I actually really like the changes they made to the factions I'm Season 6. The old factions felt more like national ties with an affiliation to the Society as opposed to the other way around.

Exactly. My character is going to be a worshiper of Nethys, who also follows Desna due to her infatuation of the heavens . She's a follower of the belief that magic is not inherently good or evil, but rather the wielder makes that decision. She does, however, recognize the fact that magic items, especially dark ones, can be extremely dangerous if not handled properly.

Very cool. Serwe is a natural healer and white-magician type. I've never fired my crossbow but I've made a lot of things fall asleep. Not the traditional 'cook the babies' kind of witch. She's well leaned, and a traditionalist; her skillset passed down through the female line. She learned from her mother, who learned from her's.

Just got done with game night the Silverhex Chronicles were pretty awesome. It's 6 short mini-missions. I may run it as a PBP very soon. I leveled and gained enough coin to purchase the much coveted Peal of Power I on a past Chronice sheet, I need to make sure I have enough fame to reach that gp cost tier. I'll be updating then I'll make my presence known over there. <--- Points at gameplay thread. I now need to gain sssoooo much money! Silverhex is a thing you can buy and I kinda want it. Cheer!

Ok all set, I'm going to go ahead and buy the Pearl of Power one from my Confirmation Chronicle Sheet. Is this a longer adventure? I think you mentioned something about it being worth multiple XP and 3-4Fame+. If so I might cross off one of the boons I picked up from Silverhex.

Boon:

-Elixer of treasure Seeking: One of the special treasures you recovered while seeking fame and fortune was a flask of liquid that glowed softly with golden light. Drinking this elixir gives you the ability to find treasure in unlikely places, granting you a +2 competence bonus on Appraise and Perception checks for duration of an entire adventure. In addition, if you earn less than the maximum gold piece reward during an adventure, your sharpened senses lead you to a small cache of gold and gems that increases your gold earned by 150 gp (up to the maximum reward given in the adventure). When you use this boon, cross it of your Chronicle sheet.

Worth it? Longer adventure = longer boon usage. Decisions decisions.

So, I've been spending some time really looking over the Investigator class the past few days. I must say, I feel that class fits much better with the theme I had in mind for Cornelia than the Dark Tapestry oracle.

Engleaktig, given that this scenario provides enough XP to fully level a character (assuming fast track), could I still use the rebuild rules before applying the XP? Or would I need to go with the 1/2 XP for this scenario to ensure she doesn't fully level?

Cornelia,
You can use the rebuild rules as long as you have never played your character at 2nd level or higher. So after this Mod you can apply the xp to get to second level and then rebuild into an investigator.
Hope that helps

Folks, I'd like your opinion on something:

Serwe has been unable to post. I've tried reaching Clay via PM and the discussion thread of another game that we're in, but he hasn't been able to respond.

I hope he's OK, and I'm perfectly happy to bot his character. But I'd like to know if you all prefer:

1) We treat Serwe kind of like an NPC. She's there, but out of the way until/unless she's needed. (I prefer this. It streamlines actions, and Serwe acts as a safetly net.)

2) We send Serwe away until Clay comes back. (She's off making sure the tengu really leave, for example.)

3) I bot Serwe and we treat her like a full party member--fully participating in combat and role-play.

(Regardless of which option the party prefers, Clay will get a chronicle sheet reflecting only those parts of the module he was able to play himself. As of right this second, that's 1 XP, 1 PP, and reduced gold.)

I hope Clay's OK; I don't know have any information about what's been keeping him away from posting. If any of you have heard from him, please let us know.

Clay, if you see this, don't hesitate to let us know if you need anything, buddy! :-D

Hey guys, I am curious if any of you have played the Investigator class yet? I have the concept of what I'd like Cornelia to do as she levels, but it's mostly support type stuff. I'm looking to pump as much into UMD and pick up a bunch of different types of wands for buffing and combat usage. She's going to be a big skill monkey w/ good Intimidate skill and Trapfinding/Disarming, but until I can afford an Agile weapon, she won't be all that great in combat (sort of like she is now lol). I was curious if you guys might have any suggestions? Or if being a non-caster support type character would be well received in PFS.

Silver Crusade

I haven't tried it out yet. Sorry. :-(
