Ragnorak... |
that's cool i figured they were either stupidly high or that it was just more of a plot point than a major mechanical thing
Jumping to his feat and spinning quickly to take note of the room and people around him, Ragnorak soon realises what has happened, and is barley able to control his rage.
Not funny sleep trick, they will pay for this, i make them sleep for long time
Bunk Envoy of Balance |
A mohawk big guy drugged and unconscious. Rings a bell somehow. :p
"We better thread lightly here."
Approaches to the door, stops, turns around and looks at Holman.
"Master Nimblefingers, would you care checking this door? I am done with unpleasant surprises for the day."
Rowanna Nachtalus |
Actually, a natural 20 on any save always succeeds so there's a chance no matter the DC. Likewise, a natural 1 on a save always fails so there's a chance of that no matter the bonus to the save.
Rowanna awakens with a small yawn and looks around with momentary confusion. Once her wits returns she sits up in her seat and daintly wipes off any drool that might have collected during her nap. "That certainly must have been boring for you all."
Before Holman begins checking the door, she casts a Guidance spell on him to assist.
Guidance on Holman: +1 competence bonus on a single attack roll, saving throw, or skill check.
Elliot Feardwarf |
Elliot waits patiently for Rowanna and Ragnarok to wake up. "How are you feeling? Headache? Did they put alcohol into your tea cups?" the dwarf asks.
Holman Nimblefingers |
Holman nods and makes his way surely to the door, listening at it and checking it for traps or any other unpleasantness.
Perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (20) + 18 = 38
Holman's lenses add a +5 competence bonus, so no need for the guidance
StephNyan |
@Rowanna: I always thought that was just for attack rolls!
Fort, Ragnorak: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Fort, Rowanna: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
No change.
Holman doesn't discover any traps, and eventually you open the doors. The ceiling of the grand hall beyond the doors soars twenty feet overhead. An enormous, fifty-foot-long banquet table surrounded by twenty-eight beautifully carved, high-backed chairs dominates the room. Eight full suits of ornate plate armor line the east and west walls, each holding an elaborate if unwieldy halberd. Intricately grilled windows high up on the north and south walls allow ambient light from outside to permeate the large chamber. Two enormous oil paintings in fanciful gilded frames flank the double doors on the west wall, their subjects presiding regally over the hall. On the right is an obese man in voluminous white robes and gloves, with a long black beard of oiled ringlets, and the fingers of both hands bedecked with gems—the quintessential portrait of a Druman Kalistocrat. The portrait on the left depicts a beautiful olive-skinned woman with large dark eyes and raven hair, also clad in white robes and gloves; her hair is held in place by a jeweled circlet, and a veil of coins covers her lower face.
Seated in every fourth chair is a most unusual diner—a bipedal form clad in expensive black formal wear, with a grotesque, fish-like head, though it otherwise seems human enough. All seven creatures rise from their chairs and start moving menacingly toward you.
Rowanna Nachtalus |
No problem, I wasn't initially aware of that rule either.
Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17
Will Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
"I believe those are locathah, although I don't recall if they have any specific abilities we should be worried about." Rowanna explains to the others as the fishmen advance.
Bunk Envoy of Balance |
Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
Will Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
"Wait, some of those are illusions, while three of them are real!"
Bunk points at the real fish-men.
Ragnorak... |
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
As bunk mentions that some are illusions Rag shakes his head clearing away his vision, and when he opens his eyes he only sees 3 of these fishmen beast things.
Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
how are we doing initiative btw? are we going to do block initiative?
Bunk Envoy of Balance |
"Wait for them to engage combat, let's use the door as a bottle neck!"
Init: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6
StephNyan |
I will make all initiative rolls when you decide to engage something, or when something engages you. The first to attack something will kick off initiative, and I request you to 'freeze' till I've decided the initiative order after such an initial attack.
We'll be using block initiative, and I'll make it clearly visible who is up and who isn't.
The moment you realize some of the creatures are illusions, the illusions fade. The actual creatures continue to move toward you, but don't actually do anything but look menacing when they do reach the first of you.
That said, we're not in initiative yet.
Rowanna Nachtalus |
"Perhaps we can have a friendly discussion with these people." Rowanna suggests once it's clear the locathah aren't immediately aggressive.
Ragnorak... |
Rag moves up to within 5ft of the fishmen.
"Far nuff fishmans, we here for book, move now or me fillet you!
He says as he unstraps the the large and gnarled ogre hook from his back.
Intimidates: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (1) + 20 = 21
Holman Nimblefingers |
Holman attempts to dissuade the fish-men from attacking. "Look, we'd really appreciate it if you'd let us go about our business." He smiles, "By the way, I don't suppose you've seen a book lying about anywhere?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19
StephNyan |
The creatures don't react to you, and just stand in front of Holman.
Remember you can always roll knowledge checks to learn more about creatures, even if I don't offer you Knowledge spoilers.
I'll toss you this, though:
Rowanna Nachtalus |
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
"This is quite strange. Perhaps they are just guarding the room?" Rowanna says with perplexed expression. "I wonder if they become aggressive if we move inside. I can summon something in the room to see if that's the case, if you wish."
Bunk Envoy of Balance |
Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
"Don't let them heads fool you, comrades. Those creatures are flesh golems, constructs forced to obey the will of their master."
Looks at Rowanna.
"Hmmmm summon a creature as bait... Not a bad idea, indeed. Stay behind us, tho, m'lady."
Ragnorak... |
Ragnorak, steps up to door way beside Holam,
"Last chance fishfaces, step aside or be fish fingers"
Ragnorak readies to attack raising he ogre hook.
Holman Nimblefingers |
Holman sighs, "Well, much as I don't really mind being a target, I don't think my daggers will do a whole lot against these creatures." Still, he prepares to tumble past the golems into the room beyond in order to provide a flank for those more capable of injuring them.
Rowanna Nachtalus |
"Very well." Rowanna says with an amused grin as she pulls out one of her wands and activates it. Six seconds later, a pony with a riding saddle appears inside the room adjacent to the flesh golems.
"Worry not, it'll be sent back to its home plane safe and sound if it's injured."
Spent 1 charge off of her wand of Mount. There are 49 charges remaining.
Rowanna Nachtalus |
"I guess see we can push through them?" Rowanna suggests, clearly not excited about engaging the creatures in combat.
Ragnorak... |
Ragnorak looks at the witch then shrugs, he then attempts to push past the weird fish/bear Golems. bull rushing the pink one.
bullrush: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
I dont have improved bullrush so i provoke, so if they are going to attack they might as well do it now.
Holman Nimblefingers |
Before Ragnorak does something that might be viewed as aggressive...
Holman lays a hand on Ragnorak's arm, staying his action. Then, he takes a deep breath and dives between the golems' legs, making his way past them to the far corner of the room.
Acrobatics (Avoid AoO vs. DC CMD + 5): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (16) + 16 = 32 (moving half speed)

"I guess we can't talk to them." Elliot says before moving past the fish creatures at the door. double move, trying to avoid the Aoo, but very unlikely
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
StephNyan |
If Ragnorak lets himself be stopped:
Holman deftly tumbles past the golems, not showing them a single opening in his defense.
Elliot also moves past the golems, but with considerable less grace. Despite the fact Elliot's providing the golems with plenty of opportunities to strike, none of the golems attacks him.
One of the flesh golems turns to stare blankly at Elliot, while another keeps staring at the pony, and the third stares blankly at Ragnorak.
Bunk Envoy of Balance |
<What is this... That staaaands before me...>
Bunk tries to see if they would strike him as well, taking a step into the room and analyzing the golem's actions.
sense motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Rowanna Nachtalus |
Gulping, Rowanna attempts to make her way past the strange golems into the room. "I wonder if this was a test to see if we would attack without thinking about it first." She says if not attacked.
StephNyan |
As you move over to the far door, the flesh golems follow you. They stop walking when you reach the door, and continue their job of blankly staring at you.
Light dances on the water of the reflecting pool in this large atrium, the ten-foot-high roof above the pool open to the desert sky. A decorative coral formation sits at the pool’s center, its rocky branches reaching out in all directions, moving slowly to create a mesmerizing animated abstract sculpture. On the western wall, three painted statues stand as vigilant guards, each holding two broad blades. In addition to the double doors to the east, eight sturdy doors of oak open into the skylit chamber from rooms along the north and south walls of the atrium. The marble walkway around the shallow pool features a meandering pattern created by inlaid multicolored stone chips.
Ragnorak... |
I kinda dont wont to waste anymore time on the fish guys, but i think it might be worth searching the room they are in, and maybe detecting magic/spellcraft on them, i have a feeling that they are not as they seem and it could be some sort of polymorph spell, cause i think real ones should have attacked us. I could be totally wrong but it's way too strange.
Holman Nimblefingers |
Holman takes a moment to scan the floor in front of the door to see if there are any pressure plates or other traps.

In the atrium room, she points at the three painted statues, "Those are Taldan warrior sentinels. It's likely they'll animate and try to kill us. Typically they guard royal tombs."

False Life: +16 temp hp Duration: 8 hours
StephNyan |
Rowanna detects no magic from the room with the flesh golems, but she does notice the fancy place settings on the table have some decent value to them. She also notices the suits of armor and halberds are ornamental and of no practical use, and the huge portraits depicting Temel Passad and his wife, Umeda, are likely to be worth a lot of money.
The are no traps at the door leading to the next room.
Holman, Bunk and Ragnorak notice the sentinels to the north and south have an oval-cut blue sapphire of considerable value in their foreheads. It's unlikely that they sapphires can be removed without damaging the
statues, as evidenced by the central one, which is missing its gem and has broken stone from its scarred forehead scattered at its feet.
StephNyan |
The moment Ragnorak steps into the room, the decorative coral formation in the middle of the pool starts moving.

The coral creature attacks Ragnorak with a flurry of claws, grievously wounding the bloodrager. After the creature's last attack, Ragnorak feels his body weaken. His body then turns into an amorphous, spongy, shapeless mass.
@Ragnorak: You may want to consider using your reroll on that last Fort save. You will otherwise have to roll 3 consecutive saves (DC 21) to get rid of the effect, starting with the roll at the start of your turn in round 2.
A victim can temporarily regain its own shape by taking a standard action to attempt a DC 15 Will save (this DC does not vary for a chaos beast with different Hit Dice or ability scores). A success reestablishes the creature’s normal form for 1 minute.
