Cëanel Firdhanor |
Cëanel mutters to himself and pulls out a scroll from his belongings. "It seems like a waste to use this," he says to himself. He scoots to the east 5' to get out of the way of the door (he hopes).
Taking out the Summon Monster scroll. And that's it for this round..

AOO on orange - for moving through threatened squaares
Mwk Cold Iron Greatsword, RAGE, Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 Sigh

Desh Greyskin |
Huh. You beat me to it; I just haven't been able to post today. Also, I generally have a really hard time posting over the weekends. So feel free to bot Desh if it's necessary during that time.
Desh kicks one of the goblin bodies before spitting out a mouthful of blood. He begins stabbing them all, ensuring they stay dead ... all but one. (Let's say the one that set off the rock-fall trap and warned the others we were coming ... he seems the intelligent sort).
That goblin Desh quickly binds, then—after having Kohinoor finish healing himself up—points to the wand and the goblin, "Wake him up. Kay, find out what he knows about this place."
Wand of CLW (on self); 2 charges: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 2 = 7
DM, then let me know how many charges it takes to get the one (bound) goblin back to consciousness.
Then Desh inspects the rooms they've already been in ... looking for more hidden doors, usable items, or really anything interesting. He's especially keen to get a look at the hidden hallway the one used already.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8; +1 vs. traps
EDIT: sigh ... these rolls.
Flyndal Danwrick |
Ditto. Although you probably rolled better than I would have, anyway.
1d20 ⇒ 1 Yup.

__________The party questions the goblin. The goblin is afraid of "the boss". He also believes that "Clanky" will likely kill you all. Clanky is in the next room. (Map updated.) Clanky is not the boss. The boss is upstairs. From its description, Cëanel realizes that Clanky must be a construct.
Cëanel Firdhanor |
Kay dusts off his hands and stands up from kneeling near the goblin. "Well, then. This construct will be hard to kill, or rather to disable, but I do have another Grease spell to knock it over." He extends his tongue for a moment, grimacing and stretching his jaw. "Goblin is not the most pleasant language to speak," he says, almost apologetically.
Kn Local: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 Any knowledge about bigger goblinoids?
Any Kn Arcana rolls needed for further construct knowledge?
Also, sorry, I was pretty much out of commission much of the weekend!
Cëanel also casts Detect Magic in the room, scanning about.
Desh Greyskin |
Desh points his spear at Clanky's door, "So ... through there? Or poke around a bit more first?" As he waits for others to weigh in, he checks Clanky's door for traps and presses his ear to it ... hoping to pick up any sound from within.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7; +1 vs. traps
... sigh. :(
Desh Greyskin |
And if no one really has an opinion, or people don't post their opinion very quickly, Desh will set off to go "poke around" a bit more ... moving along that western hallway, pressing ear to both sets of doors there, then head towards that open area south of A6.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Perception, hallway northern single door: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11; +1 vs traps
Perception, hallway southern double door: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23; +1 vs traps
Flyndal Danwrick |
Flyn will take a bit to get past his fatigue, and ask for heals, before we move on.
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Seems quiet at a couple of the doors. You can hear more goblins behind another door. (I'll update the map to indicate which doors.)
Cëanel Firdhanor |
"Here's a suggestion," says the elf softly, his pupils wide but fruitlessly so in the magical darkness. "If I can get this construct down in a grease trap, we could set it on fire. We have torches or something else flammable, yes? Then continue to pepper it with arrows. Anything to keep it down. The grease itself will not burn, unlike a web, which is something beyond my abilities at this point."
Do either Detect Magic or Scent enable Kay to pinpoint the construct within the room?
Desh Greyskin |
Desh peaks around the corner—looking south from the corner of the hallway—trying to determine the goblins' numbers, positions, and armaments.
I'm assuming this is part of that same Stealth check (result of 24), but let me know if you need another.
Desh Greyskin |
I was specifically looking to see if Desh could peek around the corner into the open area south of A6. I’m wanting to see if i can get eyes on them (assuming Darkvision 60 gives him enough distance to do so), as well as the general layout of that area. Is that possible?
I’m sick of blundering into ambushes.
GM Engleaktig |
No. There's a door there. There's nothing else to see in the room till you get to the door.
(Map updated to more accurately reveal the area.)
For my convenience, you open the door to area A7. :-) Rows of wooden racks on the walls of this room hold a ramshackle collection of rusty blades, scraps of armor, and warped arrows. This looks like a goblin armory. Unfortunately, goblins aren't very good weaponsmiths. Six Small dogslicers and six small horsechoppers are piled haphazardly around the room. The other items are unusable and worthless.
You also open the door to A14. Stairs wind downward to the right, circling around a glowing wall of semi-translucent green stone. It seems the Azlanti tower was built around a core of some other material—a spire within a spire. This is how you get to the next level of Emerald Spire (after you finish this one and level up).
Just above the landing, the green crystal Spire is marked with a complex sigil the size of a human hand. Kay recognizes that this is an identifying rune. (This sigil is this level's identifying rune. Kind of like floor indicators in an elevator.)
Also, in A6, you find a hidden tunnel leading to A5. It's sized for small creatures. Medium sized creatures have to squeeze or crawl to use it
GM Engleaktig |
I’m sick of blundering into ambushes.
You know that goblins are typically lazy. The ones you fought before either saw you coming or were warned. These new ones on the left side probably have not been warned.
1d20 ⇒ 11
1d20 ⇒ 7
You suspect that Clanky and the goblin on the right side may have heard the sounds of combat...
Desh Greyskin |
Ah, sorry about the left-side A6 confusion. I couldn’t see that there was a door, so I assumed that was an open path to the waiting goblins. Thanks for clearing that up.
After some quick scouting, Desh pulls the group into a quiet huddle and briefs them. Assume all info is party info.
”I think Clanky and his goblin friend know we’re here.” He points down the hall. ”Those three don’t, though. So if we had a way of jamming Clanky’s door, we could leave them stuck in there and go ambush that other group now.”
Would a Disable Device check allow Desh to jam the door to Clanky’s room?
Cëanel Firdhanor |
"They may try to break it down, but it sounds like a good idea. Let's catch someone unawares for once," whispers the elf. "If we hear sounds of cracking doors, I can hurry back to grease the area before the door."
Cëanel looks at Zamoros' light longingly. "Perhaps I can borrow that if said door-cracking occurs. Of all the days not to prepare a light spell...translucent spire, you stupid elf...ahem."
Desh Greyskin |
Desh nods and makes for Clanky's door, quietly pulling out a set of tools in an attempt to jam the door closed.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Satisfied with his work, he tucks them away, takes up his longspear, and stalks to the western door, where he quickly and quietly searches it for traps or locks.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26; +1 vs traps
Disable Device: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11; if necessary.
When done, he looks behind him, "Be ready." Then, once he gets 'ready' nods from his teammates, he holds up 3 fingers ... 2 fingers ... 1 finger ... then eases the door open quietly.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Sigh...
GM Engleaktig |
You can hear the goblins singing a goblin song. They're so not-ready for you! After you open the door, I'll give you guys a surprise round to do your thing. Remember, surprise round is only a standard action. (Or a partial charge.)
Desh: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Flyndal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

Goblins: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Desh: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
The map has been updated. You can all post your actions now for the surprise round.
Flyndal Danwrick |
As the door opens, Flyn rushes in behind Desh, charging the trio of goblins with a ferocious howl.
Move into flanking around green
Flyndal Danwrick |
Flyn, slitting up the goblins along with Desh, turns to the middle gobber and lashes out with his mighty blade, and an equally mighty war cry.
They are still flat-footed, right?
Mwk Cold Iron Greatsword, Flanking, Power Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 2 = 19 That's more like it!

Cëanel Firdhanor |
Cëanel brandishes his scroll of summoning and finally uses it. Already out, remember? Good, since it takes a whole round to summon something...
He once again summons an eagle. Celestial, Augment Summoning, 2 rounds.
Desh Greyskin |
No AoO from Desh as he does't threaten Purple with his lonspear.
Desh takes a retreating backwards, trying to cut off the rooms only other (obvious) escape route. Then he jabs with his longspear.

"It sounds like you're killing them all in there," says Cëanel in mock complaint. "Two, Lyffan? Hmph. Well, please attack the other, eagle," says the elf.
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
for: 1d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4
The eagle does its celestial best to Smite Evil. Kay makes it to the door somehow, glad to find Kohinoor's light.
Flyndal Danwrick |
Sidestepping around to the final goblin's flank, Flyn moves in and attacks!
Move in arc to avoid AOO
