DM Jelly |
Quickly ascending to the main deck you see a strikingly handsome woman and her pet (DC 10 Know Religion) zombie who is apparently shocked at seeing your motley crew and not her orcs!
Shocked for only a moment yet you have a surprise round from 30' away.
"What is the meaning of this!?! Where are my orcs?"
Initiatives (after surprise):
Miriam, Taliesin, Gilthanis
Woman
Zoren
Zombie
Reginald
Miriam: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Zoren: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Taliesin: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Reginald: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Gilthanis: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
1d20 ⇒ 9
Taliesin Staccato |
Taliesin confronts the woman and attempts to inspire her own comrades at the same time.
"You vile slaver! What right do you have to take these people from their families and homes? I've heard it said that you may take away someone's life, but you can never take...their freeeedoooomm!"
Inspire Courage, plus banner, for +2/+2 for everyone!
Reginald Hightower |
"Պահել նրան կենդանի - մենք պետք է պատասխաններ!"
Reginald casts Protection from Evil on Miriam! He then takes a 5-foot step forward.
Miriam Vinedancer |
Miriam casts entangle to hit both the slaver and the zombie (green circle drawn on map)
DC 15 Reflex save or entangled!
Tarlon stays put for now.
Miriam Vinedancer |
"Tarlon! Attack her!" Miriam and Tarlon both move forward and attack the woman.
Scythe attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Scythe damage: 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3) + 3 = 7
Tarlon slam: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Slam damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Crit chance: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Crit damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Tarlon swings his fist, connecting solidly with the woman's jaw, but he must've been off-balance because she just shrugs it off. Miriam, however, catches her right in the shoulder with her wicked scythe!
Taliesin Staccato |
Sorry, I did act but didn't make it very clear. I'm starting a Bardic Performance of Inspire Courage, which is a standard action. That, combined with standing still and looking pretty for a movement action, was my full turn.
DM Jelly |
ok.
The surprised woman barely had time to protect herself from this onslaught!
Taking wounds from tree and blade she reacts best as she can, she begins praying to Groetus and channels his evil energies around her!
Negative vibes: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6
All but Taliesin please make DC 12 Will saves for half
Init:
Zoren, Zombie, Reginald, Miriam, Taliesin, Gilthanis, Woman
-Zoren- |
Will Save: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Even though he took the full damage, he still took a step forward and tries to slash at the zombie with his dagger.
Dagger slash: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 2 = 171d4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7
Miriam Vinedancer |
Will save Miriam: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Will save Tarlon: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Both take only 3 damage from the evil lady's negative energy!
DM Jelly |
Zoren slightly misses a step in the wave of evil but managers to wound the zombie. Rotting flesh is flayed from it's torso while it attacks the Tiefling rogue!
Entangled Reflex Save: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Zombie is entangled as it attempts to attack Zoren
Zombie: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 2 = 18dmg: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Zoren, please roll to stabilize.
Woman - 10
Zombie - 7
Reginald Hightower |
Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10.
"ոչ, Zoren!"
Reginald changes his initial plan and strikes with lethal force! Attack, Taliesen, Cover: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 2 - 4 = 14; Damage: 2d4 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 4 + 2 = 13
Taliesin Staccato |
I think we might be at the top of the order, so I'll go ahead and go...
Taliesin gasps as Zoren goes down. "Oh, no! Can anyone help him?"
She advances a few steps toward the woman and her zombie.
"You shouldn't have done that! Now I'm getting upset! Why don't you fall down, too?!" she says as grease coats the deck under the villain's feet.
Casting grease: 10' area of grease, woman must make a DC 16 Refl save or fall.
Gilthanis Silverbrow |
will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
I have never heard of that rule of cover for reach weapons...did I miss something. I could MAYBE see a +2 cover bonus which would be soft cover but a -4 to me seams like you would be firing into melee
Gilthanis, feels the negative energy cast waves in his soul. He remains strong, and shrugs off the worst of it.
He looks around, trying to figure out what to do. He grabs for his wand of healing, but realizes that Mariam has it. [i[Dang it, I loaned it to Mariam[i]
Is it possible, to grab the wand as a move action, tap Zoren as a standard action then take a free 5' step forward to engage the enemy?
DM Jelly |
While I would like to agree with you Gilthanis I defer to PFSRD:
Soft Cover:
Creatures, even your enemies, can provide you with cover against ranged attacks, giving you a +4 bonus to AC. However, such soft cover provides no bonus on Reflex saves, nor does soft cover allow you to make a Stealth check.
Yes, Gilthanis you can.
Init:Miriam, Woman, Zoren, Zombie, Everyone else
Miriam Vinedancer |
Miriam and Tarlon both swing at her again!
Scythe: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Damage: 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1) + 3 = 5
Tarlon slam 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Damage 1: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Tarlon slam 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage 2: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Miriam Vinedancer |
Yeah, I've heard it both ways from different GMs, but I believe the rules as written do NOT apply a -4 to your melee reach attacks if there's an ally in your way. I'd say this should be a GM call.
Taliesin Staccato |
Melee Attacks: With a normal melee weapon, you can strike any opponent within 5 feet. (Opponents within 5 feet are considered adjacent to you.) Some melee weapons have reach, as indicated in their descriptions. With a typical reach weapon, you can strike opponents 10 feet away, but you can't strike adjacent foes (those within 5 feet).
Ranged Attacks: With a ranged weapon, you can shoot or throw at any target that is within the weapon's maximum range and in line of sight. The maximum range for a thrown weapon is five range increments. For projectile weapons, it is 10 range increments. Some ranged weapons have shorter maximum ranges, as specified in their descriptions.
Not to get too off track here, but the soft cover rule says "ranged attacks," which as described in the SRD would not include melee reach weapons.
DM Jelly |
I'm inclined to agree with your arguments. Reach is melee not ranged. Reginald hits the 'black magic woman' for significant damage but she still stands!
Miriam and Tarlon attack, Tarlon scoring yet another damaging blow to the woman!
Woman - 27
Zombie - 2 (healed by negative channeling)
She responds in kind by praying to her evil deity:
Bad Vibes: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5 vs. DC 12.
Everyone except Taliesin make save or take 5
Miriam Vinedancer |
Will save Miriam: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Will save Tarlon: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Both Miriam and Tarlon take only 2 negative energy damage from the evil witchy-woman.
DM Jelly |
Uhg. Long Monday already........
Friday I posted her failed save vs. Grease and Entangle then getting up and creating an AoO from y'all. Obviously it didn't take or I just previewed or quite possibly, Paizo is tormenting me again.
On a good note I had a great weekend. ;)
Miriam, Tarlon and Reg have an AoO vs. the bad girl.
Miriam Vinedancer |
Miriam scythe AOO: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 + 2 = 19 (+2 from Taliesin's insp. courage and flag)
Scythe damage: 2d4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 2 + 2 = 9
Tarlon slam AOO: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 3 + 2 = 24
Slam damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 = 10
Miriam's scythe again bites into the woman's chest, while Tarlon hammers her on the head with a thick branch!
-Zoren- |
Yes, Zoren is at a 7 now, no longer in the negatives.
Feeling consciousness come back to him, and noticing that his hand is still gripping his dagger with the zombie nearby, he tries standing up then slashes out at it with his dagger.
Dagger: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 131d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Can you use acrobatics to stand up to avoid an aoo?
DM Jelly |
Being tapped on the head with a CLW, Zoren stands with great flourish and slashes at the shambling undead abomination.
Quite impressed with Zoren's recovery the Zombie, albeit impressed, is able to dodge out of the harmful daggers reach.
Swinging at the Tiefling in front of him, the zombie misses
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9dmg: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
The party is up!
Miriam Vinedancer |
Miriam five-foot steps back, then casts guidance on Tarlon.
[spoiler=Sylvan]"Tarlon. Charge."
Tarlon charges at the zombie!
Charing slam: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 12 (+2 charge, +1 guidance)
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Unfortunately, Tarlon loses his footing a bit and misses his swing at the end of the charge. :(
