Big Blue Jiggly welcomes you to Cassomir...

Having found your way through Cassomir to the Pathfinder Lodge you sit waiting your next assignment when your called in to a clean yet unassuming office. Venture-Captain Hestia Themis, a small, unassuming woman of Taldan heritage with dark hair and eyes, holds a large sheaf of papers in her small hands and clears her throat. Her booming voice, the antithesis of her stature, fills the main hall of the small Pathfinder Lodge in the Taldan city of Cassomir.

“One of our own has been kidnapped. Pathfinder Cestis was taken just days ago from a relics auction in the Imperial Naval Shipyards, and we believe his dissapearance to be related to the six dozen or so kidnappings of the last several months. Now that one of our own is missing, this has become a Society matter—something we’ll get to the bottom of.”

Themis gestures to a teenage boy standing beside her, who nervously regards his surroundings and sweats profusely, his thick brown hair matted and wet against his head.
“This is Nefti, the assistant to the biggest thorn in my side in Cassomir—an agent of the Aspis Consortium named Kafar. Kafar is also missing, taken from the same relics auction along with Pathfinder Cestis and a dozen other citizens of Cassomir. Nefti was at the auction, saw where a small group of the kidnapped victims were taken, and his handlers in Cassomir have give us access to him so that he might guide us to our missing Pathfinder. If you happen to find Kafar...”

Themis grinds her teeth. “Let him go, per the agreement I’ve just made with his superiors. Your priority is Cestis, and I think Nefti can lead you to him. Any questions?”

Miriam sits in a wooden chair with no cushion, wishing to leave such opulence for others and place her derriere on the wood itself. She wears simple armor crafted from the skins of rabbits and hares of several colors, and carries both a wickedly-pointed scythe and a well-carved quarterstaff strapped to her back. Her wooden holy symbol hangs from her neck. Those who pay attention may notice that it is carved on both sides, one with the symbol of Gozreh, a leaf dripping water, and the other with the leafy visage of the Green Faith.

Standing behind her, still as a... well... tree, is her companion, Tarlon. He stands around the height of a dwarf to the top of what you'd call his "head", though several branches grow above this by a few inches. He wears not only his own rough brown bark, but has the branches of a rosewood bush weaved around and through the leather armor that has been strapped to him.

Miriam shifts nervously in her seat, clearly uncomfortable with the anger emanating from Venture-Captain Themis. "Are you sure, my lady? It sounds like this.. Kafar... may be someone you'd like to speak to personally. Still, if our job is to find Cestis, that's what we shall do. May Gozreh lead us to our missing comrade, if they so will it."

Reginald sits stiffly at attention, taking in the news. His armor is well kept and polished, and he wears a cloak adorned with the wing and sword of Ragathiel. He is fit and handsome - his hair even seems to glow. Leaning against the wall is his weapon of choice, a polearm ending in a curved blade and hook. He speaks up, appalled by the Venture Captain's story. "Six dozen kidnappings in the last several months? What do these kidnappings have in common? And why has nothing been done?"

Taliesin Staccato sits quietly at the front of the room. She is impeccably well-maintained and clean. Beautiful beyond belief, she examines her nails as if bothered by all the details of the mission.

She looks at the sweaty assistant with disdain. "Eewe...gross!" she whispers.

With resignation, she stands before the group, but is suddenly cheerful and diplomatic.

"We understand our courageous mission, good and kind-hearted Venture-Captain! We shall discover the villainous kidnappers, boldly rescue our fellow Pathfinder, punish most justly the perpetrators, and finally return home with valor to receive the cheer and adulation of all!"

As she finishes speaking, she unfurls a banner of the Pathfinder Society, then curtsies with a flourish.

Ill at ease in his chair is Zoren, a painfully thin tiefling. With a hood over his head so that his face is in shadow, he hisses out "So we rescue an idiot who allowed himself to be kidnapped to rescue another one. If we must."

Like good little Pathfinders you ask a few more questions learning the following:
Why not report the kidnappings to the authorities?
“They've been unable to recover the dozens of other Cassomir citizens who've gone missing in recent months. What makes you think they’ll get our Pathfinder back? Besides, Cestis has some... knowledge I’d rather the local authorities not get, and so I need you to get him for me.”
What knowledge? “It’s a high-level Society matter and none of your concern.”
What do you know about the kidnappings? “They started a few months ago. Cassomir has always had some trouble with its citizens going missing, but this was different. Only those associated with the Imperial Naval Shipyards were taken — shipwrights, carpenters, navy guards, and so on. This recent kidnapping where they took Cestis was brash and bold. They grabbed more than a dozen people in one attack, neglecting to grab Nefti. Their mistake is our fortune.”
Who kidnapped these people? “There are... rumors of twisted men from the Darklands who climb up through Cassomir’s Locker, the sewers, catacombs, and older ruins below the city. Alas, they are only rumors. We don’t know who’s doing it.”
Why are we working with the Aspis Consortium?
“Difficult situations sometimes call for difficult choices. The Aspis have the information we need about where to start in this mystery, and if it takes dirtying our hands with them to get Cestis back, I think it’s worth it.”

Now to the Aspis Consortium apprentice, Nefti.......

As you turn your intimidating attention to Nefti he tells you about the Inn of the Unlucky Sailor. A decrepit structure undergoing a remodel of sorts. In a shaken and intimidated tone Nefti simply states, "You should start there."

Winding your way through Cassomir (picking up anything you need to purchase along the way) finds you staring at the Inn of the Unlucky Sailor which is perched precariously overhanging the dirty harbor water. A fresh coat of white paint glistens on half the inn’s outside walls, and most of the windows are boarded up. The roof leans slightly toward the harbor, as if at any moment the entire thing could come off and slide into the ocean. The dock leading up to the inn is made of rotting wood connected to thick, rank-smelling pilings. Several small rowboats are currently tied up along its length.

Does Nefti stay with us, or just direct us to the Inn?

Taliesin wrinkles her nose at the stench of the harbor.

"I have a sensitive sense of smell," she volunteers. "Are we going to be here long? It really stinks here."

Taliesin takes a minute to unfurl her Pathfinder Society banner and shows it to her companions again.

"I thought I would be helpful to our cause and make this banner. That way, if anyone has a captive Pathfinder member, they will know where to find us. Also, I thought it might be inspirational to our cause! Go Pathfinders!"

She looks down again at the decrepit building.

"I hope one of you wants to walk in front. This doesn't look like a very friendly place. I can do the talking if you want, because people almost always give me what I want. But I hope none of the people we talk to stink."

Everyone is going to want to remember what this awesome banner does for you: Flagbearer: As long as you hold your clan, house, or party’s flag, members of that allegiance within 30 feet who can see the flag (including yourself ) gain a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and saving throws against fear and charm effects. Surreptitiously rolling her eyes at the very young girl who talks a lot, Miriam nevertheless turns and smiles widely at her. "Don't worry, child. Here..." she plucks a rose from the thorny branches that wrap around her companion. "If something smells foul, place this under your nose, and its scent will mask the odors." She deftly sticks the rose into the girl's hair, almost like a bow.

She then moves between each of her allies, quickly speaking a holy incantation and touching them on the forehead, unless they object. Guidance on each of her allies, lasts 1 minute or until discharged.

Sorry, was MIA due to holidays, but I am here I promise :)

An average elf, with blonde hair down to his shoulders walks in. He is clad in scale mail, with a small array of weaponry about him. He stands, fir sitting is annoying to say the least. LET HIM GO!?, he screams in his head, as a small mouth gap forms as those words are uttered. He regains his composure after the initial shock, bies at the Captain, if these are the orders, then it we shall do it.

After reaching the run down inn, but still back a ways, he looks towards the others...So, who here is the stealthy one of the group. Me, if I go I will be a walking alarm with my armor. I would like to get an idea of what or who is inside.

He than looks towards the human girl, I will stand in front. Sheylyn will protect me...my armor and shield if need be. He draws his longsword and shield to be ready should hell break loose.

I can empathize with weekend activities, thank you for your patience. Epic bottle rocket fight though...Epic.

The evil human's pet rat attacks Miriam, bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17dmg: 1d4 ⇒ 4 sinking it's brown and decaying teeth into the Elf's ankle.

Miriam:

Away from my computer right now, but I will have Zoren move behind the treant, then diagonally to be behind Gilthanis.
Seeing the poor elf get bit, Zoren walks to get behind that rat, while his tail gets his dagger out of his pack and into his hand, as a swift action, and stabs at that dirty rat.
Dagger: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 2 = 171d4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7

@Zoren, correct me if I'm wrong but stepping into the square behind Gilthanis provokes an AoO from the rat. Are you sure you want to?

He also has +7 on Acrobatics, if needed to avoid the AoO.

Correct Taliesin, an Acrobatic check vs. CMD 12 would avoid the AoO

I thought I wasn't going to draw an aoo because the spot behind Gilthanis is diagonal from the rat and I'm not leaving a spot that is threatened by the rat. Unless that happens when you move diagonally.

Upon reviewing AoO specs via PFSRD, I stand corrected! You are right Zoren, moving into a threatened square does not provoke Yet moving through or out of (beyond 5' stepping) does.

Zoren the Swift moves behind Gilthanis and stabs the little rodent with his dagger. Even though Zoren's thrust was true the diseased carrion feasting furry four legged fiend still stands!

Seeing his pet stabbed causes the human to growl in frustration as he lifts his staff and mutters some arcane words to it...

Reginald advances and strikes at the pet rat with his Guisarme! Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 2 = 25; Damage: 2d4 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 4 + 2 = 11

And the pet rat is sliced in two!

Miriam's Fort save against contracting the disease: Fort: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Miriam feels the disgusting slobber of the rat coursing through her veins, recognizing that she may have some trouble later on.

Looks like Miriam will be buying a few potions of remove sickness and hoping for some good saves! :-P
