Mirielle shrugs, "I'd expect its because Thrune increasingly does not want unmolested history around to be told. You said Zefiro sent you? He's probably just being paranoid, there's really no reason to worry."

Vindler spots a raven flying overhead, trailed by several guardsmen. They discuss quickly before two break off to other parts, the last heading for the door. The raven alights on an adjacent building to watch the proceedings. The mastiff lying on the floor lifts its head and growls a little as the guard approaches the door.

The raven is likely someone's familiar based on its intelligence and ability to lead the guards straight to the correct door.

Looks like that spell is a competence bonus, so it doesn't stack with Scion of the Lost Empire. That leaves Berato as our best diplomat. Though Marcus can aid and Vindlér can use Touch of Law. Anthys will stand ready if things go south.

Marcus stands silently while Mirielle tells her story. When Vindler spots the soliders, he gestures to the elven woman. "Go, get yourself to safety. We will deal with these men, never fear." Marcus nods along with Berato as he casts his spells and explains his plan. "I will put on a pot of water for tea, and follow your lead." Marcus will get a pot out of his backpack, and put it on the fire to begin heating water.

Vindlér obliges Berato's instructions and closes the curtains, then moves over and lays a hand on the cleric's shoulder. "Abadar's Justice guide you as you show these brutes the power of the law to protect, lad." He steps away, then pauses to add, "Oh, by the way, there seems to be a spell caster among them. Raven familiar lead 'em right to us. Wonder how the bird knew us, though? Anyway. Just thought you'd like t' know." He then helps shepherd the children into the other room.
Touch of Law on Berato. You can take your next d20 roll as an automatic 11 if you so choose, then add whatever modifiers you have going.

I actually think splitting the party for a short period can work in PbP, but I don't think Berato's Bluff skill is good enough to get out of a Hellknight raid. But do what you think best.

Assuming Zefiro does not come, Berato lets his friends file through and he goes last through the secret door, listening for a few seconds from the other side. If satisfied no harm is coming to the children, he quickly follows his friends.


Zefiro actually didn't follow you here, the only people here are the children and the woman who owns the building. So what's the plan, have Marcus delay them as long as possible to give you time to slip away?

"Ah. That is most unfortunate, that there is no easy hiding place. Still, the back exit seems promising. Flee from here, and I will assist master Berato as he deems best."

Slightly concerned we'll end up split and hit with encounters separately if we're not able to talk our way out, but I'll follow Berato's lead on this one.


The door slips closed quietly at the back of the building as Berato and Marcus open the front door. The guard at the door looks in, "Excuse me gentlemen, I have to inspect this building for a person wanted by the Hellknight Order of the Rack."

Marcus approaches door to stand beside Berato as it is opened. "How dreadful, a criminal on the loose! Can you describe the ruffian? Perhaps we may be able to assist you."

The man ignores Berato and Marcus's questions, shoving a rather large and intricate writ of Exposure granting him the ability to search as warranted and ordained by the Order of the Rack needs. The signatures are suitably flourished and the signets include both the Order and a signatory of House Thrune. Luckily Berato and Marcus are able to keep the guard occupied within the home for quite some time.

The others shepherd Mireille through the streets, slowing occasionally when guard patrols pass nearby, and once ducking under an awning as the Raven familiar flies above. There are no actual problems or altercations as Mireille slips safely inside her door with a whispered "Thank you. Tell Zefiro I am safe and I will see him soon."

So...That normally takes a lot more checks, but you guys beat the DC by a large amount. Onto the next section then.

Marcus finishes the pleasantries, bidding the guard farewell as he closes the door. After tidying up the remaining tea, waiting a minute to give the guard time to fully leave any possibility of earshot, Marcus will turn to Berato with a small sigh and whisper in a quiet voice.

"I believe that went quite well. I do hope the others were able to give them the slip. Shall we wait here a time, to see if Anthys or one of the others will return to guide us to the safe house?"

Nice job everyone! I'm assuming someone will come back for us since we didn't decide on a place to meet up, although if noone comes for a while Marcus will suggest going back to where we met Zefiro.

Anthys, Vindler, and Qiote gather Berato and Marcus before heading back to Mireille's. She assures you she will lay low for a few weeks, perhaps leave Cheliax altogether for a time.

With all of the commotion dying down you return to Zefiro who sighs lightly when you tell him Mirielle is safe, "Oh thank Iomedea," he breathes. He nervously glances up at you, "You didn't just hear me say that. Now then, let me get those records I promised you, yes?" He dives into his archives and return bearing several large ledgers of information and covered in dust. He sneezes twice before handing you the stack of information. On top is the notice House Thrune posted in the town of Anglemire decades ago:

You return to the Sea Sylph only to be told that the captain and crew have retired to the Wicked Fork in the West Drenches. It is a bit south of The Fox Den, and is known for its weatherworn exterior and trident with its destroyed central tine. The proprietor, a gnome with crazy green hair, greets you as you walk in, "Howdy folks! Always good to get more business. I'm Neld Havasavu, proprietor of this fine establishment. Let me know if you need anything."

This is a holdover, adventure will resume in the in-game morning, let me know what, if anything, you want to do for the night, then we'll resume. Things'll pick up quick from here.

Vindlér clicks his tongue behind his teeth as he reads over the notice. "...sentenced t' death by starvation?! How cruel could Thrune be? Well, thank ya for your help, Zefiro. We won't utter a word of your name t' anyone here, but be sure that our commanders back in Absalom will hear of how you've helped us. Now, we'll need t' be getting out of the city in the morning. Is there anything we should do t' help us get on our way?"

He begins to lead the cleric up to his room, but stops and turns to face Antsy and Marcus for a moment before continuing to the rooms, "As for me, I'd say let the man be. The lady sent him to do his job alone, whereas our commander sent five of us. That tells me that his work requires discretion, so it'd be best not t' draw attention to him. But you lads do what ya think is best." He turns again and leads the stumbling cleric to his room before retiring to his own room for the night.

Asking around leads you to understand that Cassian will hole up here for the night as well, though no one is sure where he is or when he might show up.

The next day...

In the morning you arrive downstairs to find Cassian, the other Pathfinder agent you were told to watch out for, already at the bar drinking. His disheveled clothes, damp hair, and grimy brow suggest he’s had an industrious morning—or perhaps just a sleepless night. After he downs another shot, he informs you that he’s through sneaking around for Zarta. He tells you that he met with her contact, the same Tamrin Credence you met at the docks, and delivered Zarta’s message. Neld inches closer as the PCs speak, working over a glass with a dirty dishrag. Cassian continues, “Then I come back here and find that rat is an agent for the Aspis Consortium!” Neld leans in and states, “Well, that’s what I heard, anyway. His ties go back—way back. But that’s how it goes around here. Everyone ties their cart somewhere, you know?” Cassian tells you he couldn’t sleep, fearing that Zarta is slipping into old habits too quickly. He collected your supplies early that morning to keep his mind off these developments. Everything is loaded and ready for the trip to the Eismonts...

Little remains of the town of Anglemire. Nature is reclaiming the few sturdy stone buildings still visible from the coastline. At the north end of the city, where the Eismont foothills meet with the rocky steps of the Menador Mountains, is a short square tower surrounded by the crumbling walls of Emberhold. Thick curtains of lush, green ivy reach upward from an ocean of waving grass and cling to the cracked stone walls—all that remain of the keep.

A fire long ago removed the roof and floors of Emberhold’s great hall. Five thick columns still stand amidst a dense gourd patch at the bottom of the large pit that remains. The main doorway on the south side is flanked by two stone staircases that wrap around the interior of the west and east walls, much of which have crumbled to the ground. To the northwest is a square tower that’s only partially standing. Weeds have overgrown a doorway on the east wall, which breaks on the northeast corner for a wide set of stairs descending from the ground level. A rusty iron gate still stands at the center of the pit’s northern wall, rising from the densest portion of the gourd patch and fencing off a descending set of stairs.

Round stone columns rise from the earth to a height of 10 feet where they once supported the wood floor of the great hall. The iron gate in the north wall descends into the earth. A thriving thicket of vines feed numerous ripe gourds. The large gourds visible on the map are big enough to make the square they’re in difficult terrain. Though these are the most impressive gourds in the patch, hundreds of smaller gourds thrive here as well. Navigating the patch without inadvertently destroying a gourd requires a successful DC 12 Survival Check. Picking a ripe gourd without damaging the rest of the plant requires a successful DC 5 Profession (cook), Profession (gardener), or Knowledge (nature) check.

As long as he stays next to Marcus, Anthys can make the DC 12 Survival check by taking 10 and using Scion of the Lost Empire for a +2. I believe we have all our gear - Cassian collected it last night.

Yep, all of your gear has been retrieved from the ship now that you are no longer in Corentyn.
