Kel-Aurthraxis Maleocorr |
Has anyone heard from Dryden/Dryden's player recently either?
My character strictly follows the code of Apsu, which states:
"Nothing is worth sacrificing my life for, except protecting the lives of others. I will retreat when needed, and come back to vex my foes once again."
...So even by this, I'm having trouble deciding whether to save half the party and GTFO, or stay and risk everyone.
Kel-Aurthraxis Maleocorr |
...Bueller? ^^;
Grandmaster TOZ |
Trying to stay impartial, but looking at the situation, Nemesis and Oret are the junior agents and most likely to be killed next. It would leave Minata to tank until Dryden could get back in, but DD'ing those two out, either completely clear or to the upper floor to recover would be the best choices. Or the team could continue to hold out with the drone and hope that the dice don't continue to screw you over.
Madam Ionnia Nevarion |
Don't look at me, I'm in the same boat either way.
CanisDirus |
I was going to make a post a few hours ago but server goblins appeared (of course the one time in 50 that I don't write my post in a txt file first then copy/paste to the boards to avoid having that sort of thing happen), but now that the site is working for me again, I'll make mine shortly...was hoping for more input since I'm using a replay and don't want to be the one making the big decisions for the group, but also we do need to finish this sooner or later.
CanisDirus |
Because I was bored, I went back through the battle to see just how horrible the 50% dice roller has been to us...
+ is a hit that got through displacement
- is a hit negated by displacement
Damage is in bold
* is a confirmed critical
(Displacement die roll in parenthesis)
- Dryden: 18 (3)
- Ionnia: 14 (25)
- Oret: 8 (50)
- Ionnia: 21 (8)
+ Dryden: 17 (73)
- Ionnia: 20 (29)
- Ionnia: 82* (3)
- Ionnia: 68* (36)
+ Ionnia: 21 (92)
- Minata: 14 (40)
- Ionnia: 15 (13)
- Oret: 12 (14)
- Oret: 13 (16)

285 damage avoided due to Displacement
...oy vey.
Nemesis Melek |
Oret Terra |
Curses! What black magic is this?
Grandmaster TOZ |
Minata saw him disappear, but as far as I can tell lacks the Spellcraft to determine how.
Oret Terra |
Yeah, I'm at wits end here. We've used up most, if not all, our abilities by now. Going back in immediately seems to a point almost suicidal.
I'd think there are three options here:
1. Regroup and return another day more prepared. (Haven't come to this before, if that is even an option..don't think it is)
2. Call it quits, and conclude scenario as is.
3. Go back in and risk it all.
Kel-Aurthraxis Maleocorr |
Minata saw him disappear; Kel, Oret, and Nemesis are two floors above his last known location, and Dryden has been quiet in-game for several rounds so I dunno if anyone knows where he is.
I don't know if retreating and coming back later is an option, but leaving or trying to catch our breath (i.e. wait for nausea to pass for Nemesis, Minata, and Dryden) before going back in are the easy two choices before us. Kel will go with whatever the rest of you decide.
Either way - he still has Invisibility Purge for a few minutes, and hopefully the positioning of Ionnia's body will make it slightly harder for the warlord to fly up into our faces?
Nemesis Melek |
I'd be surprised in parleying was anywhere in the cards. This is the commander of a Worldwound demon horde. Some men just want to watch the world burn (unlike Nemesis, who, merely, um...look, SHUT UP!). Still, anything's possible....
Oret Terra |
Oret, as a character, will not let to see the wretch walk as long as he can help it! But he is not a fool and won't go at it alone only to meet his demise, he knows his own limits!
So if anything, my character vote is to go back down. However, if anyone has a strong inclination towards leaving, I will not argue about it.
Kel-Aurthraxis Maleocorr |
As I've said repeatedly, I don't want to be the one making any final decisions for the group. Kel took Oret and Nemesis hoping that Minata and Dryden would survive until the nausea wore off, and then we could either regroup, or pull back as a group. The Message spell will still keep us all connected, so we can still communicate, just if the warlord is in the path that the sound takes, he can make DC 25 Perception checks to listen in.
But this PbP has been going on for a long while...someone needs to make a decision.
Grandmaster TOZ |
It most certainly has gone longer than I intended. Brae-Hagen has some pretty solid tricks. Just let me know what you want to do and we can try to push through.
Oret Terra |
Oret by no means will give up if there is a fighting chance, so my vote is to go back down the rabbit hole when we're ready!
Madam Ionnia Nevarion |
<silence>
Oret Terra |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
*Burns all the dice*
Madam Ionnia Nevarion |
The dice gods have chosen to side against us, "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here." Who saw it, I missed the sign I think.
Dryden Nightember |
I am for going in prepared and giving that thing the pay back it deserves. We can beat this thing on our terms. Sorry for poor outcome but the scenario was something we just didn't have answers for and in truth the dice roller really does suck. That is nobodies fault. Good players doing everything right can't win if most often you can't roll above like a 5. Let's make a plan to beat this thing.
Kel-Aurthraxis Maleocorr |
Unfortunately, Dryden is effectively alone with the warlord right now, so the next few dice rolls might determine what we're able to plan/do from here.
Kel-Aurthraxis Maleocorr |
Not to be a spoilsport, Dryden...but you can't use Piranha Strike with a Thornblade. I was showing the combat to my roommate and she got curious what weapon your black blade was, so I went looking and just noticed this now.
If you were using a Leafblade (1d4 instead of 1d6), however, you totally could. This sort of mistake happens really often with that feat, from what I've seen, and if I were your local VC I'd totally let you change your black blade and weapon focus feat for free, for whatever that's worth.
Grandmaster TOZ |
Good catch, Kel. I agree that it just needs to be swapped to a legal choice.
Grandmaster TOZ |
I will try to get Chronicles together tonight, but I have a rather big movie date that may delay that.
Grandmaster TOZ |
Please post any notes you wish to have included on your chronicles and how we will be handling Ionnia and Minuta's deaths. I know that Kel is planning on contributing to the cost of any raises with the Silver Crusade discount as well.
Kel-Aurthraxis Maleocorr |
Full text of the boon:
When you or an an ally purchases the spellcasting service raise dead, resurrection, or true resurrection, reduce the Prestige Point cost by 25%. When you cast any of these spells, reduce the material component cost by 25%.
Raise Dead normally costs 16pp - so this would reduce it to 12pp.
Alternatively, we could pitch in as a group to buy scrolls of Raise Dead and Kel could cast them with a DC 10 CL check.
Each scroll costs 1,125gp with 5,000gp of material components (6,125gp total) - the boon would reduce that cost to 3,750gp for the material components (4,875gp total).
Note that if we want to spend gold instead of PP, we could just spend 5,450gp to get a NPC to cast Raise Dead with a 0% chance of failure. Kel would have to roll a 3 or better, so in saving 575gp you take on a 10% chance of a bad die roll and then having to spend gold all over again.
Separately, the Restoration spell(s) to restore negative levels is either 4pp per level (8pp total) or 1,280gp per level (2,560gp total).
Oret Terra |
I'm happy to contribute towards the cost as well. I would prefer for it to be PP, but am happy to contribute regardless. Oret wouldn't let his allies go down if he could help it!
Grandmaster TOZ |
Prestige unfortunately cannot be contributed from others, but thankfully the cost can be split between gold and prestige, according to the season 9 guide.
Chronicle Rewards:
1XP (naturally)
2PP (For slaying Brae-Hagen, and for defeating all enemy armies in the mountains.)
Out of Subtier (3-5) Gold: 2295
In Tier (6-7) Gold: 3311
Lorian the Peacemaker |
Lets see, at the end of the last chronicle, Lorian was sitting at 21 Prestige, 28 fame, 14 xp, and 6,616.5 gp. Spent 4,000 for a +2 Headband of Alluring Charisma, 310 for a MW Lance, and 360 for a MW Nodachi at the beginning of the adventure (4,670 gp). I will use 12 prestige to bring him back and 2000 gp. for the needed restorations, (You are able to cast Restoration correct Kel?)
Kel-Aurthraxis Maleocorr |
If TOZ is willing to let us rest as a group long enough, Kel can memorize and cast Restoration. The only possible hold-up is that you can only have it cast on you once a week to remove a negative level - I've seen some GMs say no to letting other PCs remove 2 negative levels before - so that's TOZ's call. Kel can do it, though, yes.
Grandmaster TOZ |
Unfortunately, I also have to rule that Kel can only remove one negative level with restoration. I don't know why that rule was added, but since there isn't more than a week between your fight and the end of the scenario, Kel does not have the time to remove the second.
Lorian the Peacemaker |
Oh well, then let us hope the chronicle has some good things as right now I made more money on my day job than what I got for the adventure... after costs (100 gp vs. 15 gp)
Dryden Nightember |
Sorry Paizo didn't seem to work again for a couple of days. I was looking at the posts but nothing changed the past day or two. Happy to contribute too. Ionnia didn't deserve that death. She played well as did everyone. The dice roller really sucked. Sorry if I was mostly ineffective this game. I wasn't prepared for a lot of the stuff and I know that was supposed to be my job. Thanks for the run. It was tough.
Grandmaster TOZ |
Just let me know what the final tallys are per PC, and I will try to have chronicles ready by Christmas.
Oret Terra |
Anyone hear from Ionnia?
I will contribute the 280gp for Lorian's cause.
Grandmaster TOZ |
Currently proposed costs:
Minuta: 12PP (raise dead), 500gp (restorations)
Nemesis: 500gp (restorations)
Dryden: 500gp (restorations)
Oret: 280gp (restorations)
Kel: 500gp (restorations with two personal castings)
Ionnia: ? (Options: 16PP or 5450gp or 8PP/2450gp for raise, 8PP or 4PP and 1000gp or 2280gp for restorations)
My apologies for the delays in resolving chronicles, the holidays have been tricky on top of my transition to a new job next Tuesday.
Oret Terra |
No worries GM. If possible, please switch the 500 and 280 around. Only seems fair that Minata pays the lower of the cost.
