To help with confussion, could you (all) start placing in bold, what round your action is, and your init count as well at the very start of the post? Also, could you please use a format similar to this,
and then seperatly, well within reason,
Attack Roll:1d2 - 2d6d6 - 1d1d1000 - 12 ⇒ (2) - (1, 2, 2, 1, 6, 6) - (525) - 12 = -553
Move from A to B.
You don't have to use spoilers, but please try to seperate it a little.
Also, please include D.C.'s, and relevant information on your actions, such as Color Spray, 15ft cone, Will D.C. 42 or die and turn intoa newt. I don't mind helping if you are not sure about things, just ask.
I am working on maps for the rest of the adventure. So besides that, is there anything you guys can think of that would make ths easier for you? For example, would you perfer me to make shorte posts rather than trying to bunch things together like I am doing?

What you are doing is fine by me. I like the fluff before the crunch but since you are using spoilers, I can read whichever one I want first. :)
I often include links (to a spell, to the summoned critter, to a class ability:) I hope it is helpful or at least not annoying. If it is annoying I will stop :)The list of who needs what is VERY helpful, especially if you are waiting for me. I would spoiler it or put it here in discussion. I think the R1 Galdur does 14 backflips... will help reduce some of the same confusion too. Nice :)

Absolutely. I agree. Another idea you could try is have everyone post in order of initiative during combat, but that might be a little tricky. If you're worried about someone's lack of posting, you could but a time limit before NPCing their actions for a round (e.g., you could say the next person in initiative has 12 hours after the last poster before you NPC their actions, or something like that). It would eliminate the confusion of who is acting on which round, but would add the problem of slowing down combat a bit. Still, I've used it before and didn't have a terrible amount of hassles with it so I thought I'd share the idea.

I have finished up the next two maps. I have them saved on Google Pics for now. Anyone have any issues with Google?
Here is an example, let me know if you can open it.
Also, does anyone know Ausk? I think we may have lost him, which means we might need a new player or two.
I am heading back to deployment later tomorrow, so might be eradic in responding soon for a few days.

My browser does not support it. but I will not be updating my browser until the new machine arrives (this week... hopefully?)

Ok, I'm back. Sorry, I thought I would have more internet access on the way back, and couldn't get on at all. Will try to jump back in within the next few hours. I'll also see if I can post the maps somewhere else.
DM Beckett |
Sort of. SO tired. I'll be back in about 10 hours and I need to reread the last few posts to jump start this all again. Can I get a quick rolecall, to see who is still with us.
Curaigh |
I hope everything is fine Beckett, and only your internet access has slowed things down. :)
It has been less than a week from the last posts, but I think we are all still going. Am I correct?
I dinnae know how far we are in this one, but I am willing to run the next PFS with this group if y'all are interested. I will wait until this one is finished, and probably have to do some recruiting, but I will try it.
Beckett |
Ok, I see that people are still here. I am awilling to keep going. Some things happened (can't talk about) but it has left us without internet for some time. Last time I checked on the game, there had been no responces after Borador's last one over a week ago, so I'm not sure why I am only seeing them now.
But I'm willing to keep going.

I just wanted to point out that we are approx 1/2 way done, if not a little moreso. We should start thinking about what we should do afterwards. Did anyone want to step up? If not, I will run something else. No issues.
Just food for thought, right now.

If you want to play Becket, I volunteer to run the next one :)

I'm sorry I keep disappearing on you guys. I've been so stressed lately with the computer as well as other things. How do I do an attack and damage roll? I know I need to use the and 1d20 but what do I add it it?
Hi Barong. when I look at your profile I do not see a character sheet, only a backstory. Look at Maximo, Auk, or Galdur's profile (clicking on the name) and you will see what I mean. As a first level sorcerer you probably do not have a Base Attack Bonus (BaB) yet. Attacks would just be your strength modifier (+0) for melee attacks and your dexterity modifier (+2) for ranged attacks. Normally an attack would be BaB+ability modifier. (I think you know this part: when you are typing a post you can see the 'show' button and it has the coding for dice: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 181d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 This is a dice expression. I hope that helps :)

I hate to do this. It always seems to happen when I try to play in a PbP. I'm currently in a huge legal dispute with my son's mother and I'm incredibly stressed. I don't think I'll be able to post much at all, so you can go ahead and write Borador out. Again, I'm really sorry to do this to you guys. Good luck and good hunting everyone.

I really wish that I'd picked another bloodline for my character. I'd had originally planned to play him as struggling with evil impulses from his Rakshasa heritage and have him be arrogant and pompous. But I've been playing him as a dogged nice guy, rather quiet, who often daydreams. That bloodline also gives a bonus in lying, something I don't see Aram as wanting to do well at. I suppose it's not possible to change it, is there?
Barong |
Maybe, but it's just that I was afraid I was being a hindrance to the team. I've heard many stories of players picking a weird character build and hindering the rest of the party. Looking over it closely, the Rakshasa bloodline extra feats seems to lean toward a combat caster who wears armor, and I'm not sure how to make that work. I thought many of the powers though, such as being able to read minds at Level 3, very useful. It fit with my character idea of a basically nice guy who has an unsettling feeling that there's something not quite right about him, and wants to know what it is. I really like that in your latest post you referenced my bloodline :). Maybe I'll stick with Aram. After all, lying can be used for good :).
DM Beckett |
I wasn't really casting a spell, just summoning up my bloodline for fluff. Sorry I didn't make that clear.
No worries, I just wanted to confirm you where not casting say Detect Magic or somehting.
Also, about the saves you mentioned: do they all use the 1d20?
Yes, all use a 1d20

I have heard both ways, honestly, that the class itself is too powerful, too strong and too variable, especially in a PFS sort of sense where things are so restricted, and also that it is not so broken if one knows the rules. I tend to think that it is broken and also allows way to many options. IF, if all the classes worked that way, it wouldn't be an issue, but they don't. That being said, that is just my opinion, and I'm not going to restrict it more than PFS does normally, or try to ruin other people's fun.

From what I've seen I think it is unbalanced and easily manipulated by metagamers. It's like getting to play two characters for the price of one. Though the eidolon isn't quite as strong as a fighter, it comes pretty close. In another game I'm playing a 6th level monk/cleric built for combat, and another character's 4th level summoner can bring out an eidolon that is a close competitor in combat.
It seems to me that the eidolon allows a summoner to throw a disposable bodyguard into combat with little risk to the summoner himself (who can go full-defensive or hide and let the creature do the work).

I am not a meta-gamer (notice a charisma based class on a dwarf :), I intentionally did not max the attacks of my eidolon. It will take a spell on Galdur's part to make his main ability even relevant more than 30% of the time. I did feel a little like I was metagaming by waiting until the last round to summon it. Then I realized I dinnae summon it because the dog/horse/dog have worked out so far and the summon monsters are a fun option on their own. :) Those are more versatile too as using the pony to pull the victims up the cliff turned out.
I agree there should be some risk to the summoner when an eidolon disappears. The pali mount, druid's companion, mage's familiar all have consequences. I will play it this way, but so far this is only my second adventure with Galdur :) This is a different discussion than needed here. :)
Curaigh |
OK I just realized I have never run into this in PF and maybe not even in 3.5. Summon has a range of 20+5/level. Can the critter move further than that from the summoner? IIRC the range is only for the beginning of the spell. Am I correct? Also I think I can have another pony carry me if I need to keep up.
Beckett |
That is probably what I hate about the Summoner (and honestly most of the APG classes) the most. They would have been so amazing as options for the existing classes. The Summoning Spells are great. Not because they are strong, but because they are a great way to solve many issues. Once you get Summon Monster 2+, generally the greater things is to summon multiple lower level things.
Witht he Summon's Eidelon, it is true, it is essentually like getting to play a whole new character for free, but also one that is NOT affected by the normal rules for it's kind. It can not be banished, Prot From _______ do not work, even though they specifically affect summoned creatures, and crap like that. Not because of any alignment, but just because.
Curaigh |
Played a PFS scenario last night and actually feel better about playing a summoner. First thing the GM said when I introduced my character was 'I hate you already' (I took it the friendly way it was meant. :)
Over the course of the night, I dropped below zero HP twice, and spent much of it at 3 hp. I only had one summon monster left (and would have used it had I been more than 0 hp :). The eidolon went from full hp to negative con in one round (its first). None of the firsty characters would have survived that, so in a small way it saved someone.
Also can the summoned critter move more than the range of the spell from the caster?
Beckett |
A Summoned Critter, if it is a Summon Monster can not move beyond the range, or the spell ends and it vanishes. I am honestly not sure about the Eidolon.
I think that you have sort of already hit one of the major points people dislike about the class. It is too self sufficient. Along with the playing two characters aspects, it lets you basically negate a major caster deficiency in that you are not weak, and can easily wade into combat front lines, (through the eidelon) AND sit back in safety and cast at the same time. It robs from the front lines (the Barb, Pali, Fighter, Cleric, etc. . .) by letting the one player cover 2+ roles. It also gets a lot worse later when you can start to customize your eidelon. . .

Thanks.
Eidolon has specific rules and gets weaker as it moves further from the caster.Ausk, the Orc-Kellid |
Did you guys invest in the Goblinworks Kickstarter? I'm wicked excited for Pathfinder Online. I just paid out thirty bucks so I could become a part of the Goblin Squad and get all the latest updates and information. Honestly, I can't think of a better way to do a Pathfinder MMO than to put players in control of the River Kingdoms. This is going to be so sick-nasty when it comes out.
