No plan beyond just cookie-cutter overly optimized blasting (is all wizard from here on out).
It started as a creative exercise to explain a background for such a build, with no real intent to play it.
But turned out to be fun to play, from the RP side, in a pbp environment, where I can ponder what I type... so been running with it!

Oh, and for the GM:
Milo will have picked up, before we go, a +1 cloak of resistance (for 1k gp), and a wand of cure light wounds (using 2 prestige points).Sadly, not enough fame to get that handy haversack yet!
Okaydokay!
Kavaki is ready to roll!
Nice! Seems we're all ready.
I'm going to close the recruitment thread. The average level is now 3, there are 5 party members, and season 2 scenarios were originally meant for parties of 4. So you should all be fine! ;)
After closing the recruitment thread I'll post in the gameplay thread!

This being a "bring 'em back alive" mission, I want to ask ahead of time how you view non lethal attacks that deal bleed damage?
Since my fists can do nonlethal, and they cause bleed damage, how will that work, if at all?

Ever watch one of those Star Trek episodes (or some other series do it, I'm sure), where the same characters are running around doing parallel stuff at three entirely different points in the timeline, towards a common goal, and the scene keeps popping around to each of the timelines?
That's how I feel. So we're playing this scenario, about the (probable) demise of the Spider and the Shadow Lodge.
At Gencon, I played a scenario where I guess we were not too far post this scenario, cleaning up the mess left by all this Shadow Lodge stuff.
Right now, I'm running a scenario here by PBP where the Spider is still alive and well pulling strings.
So, you can understand how my Star Trek allusion works for me.

I'm going to refer to this post for the bleed damage.
If you include the bleed damage in your attack, the bleed damage will be lethal even if the normal damage from the attack is nonlethal. So if you want your entire attack to be nonlethal, leave out the extra bleed damage.
And I've never seen those episodes, but I have seen similar episodes in other series. Playing scenarios out of order can be quite confusing, absolutely.

That works for me! You will rarely go wrong quoting JJ around me.

Let's just hope we do not have to fight evil versions of our parents in an earlier time period and have the dilemma of snuffing out our existence ala back to the future scenario. :-)

Heh... have played confirmation 6 times (and GM'd it once).
Hell, one of those was with you as a player! =)
Sickly! Haha, I hadn't even realized that was you! Clair's going to play Fangwood Keep this PbP Game Day. She's still trying to sell coffins when given the opportunity :P
Good mods, but played them also.
Shame :(
I can't seem to fill The Confirmation, but who knows who'll show up. My games' recruitment threads have only been around for 2 days :)

@Gm - Do we have any idea if we will wrap up in time for GD3 next week? I was thinking we might but will withdraw Roland if we will be here a while yet so I do not overlap.

My guess is this game will take about a week more to finish, depending on how frequent everyone posts.
After the speech there'll be 1 more act, after which the game will be concluded.

Not to be a stick in the mud or rules lawyer, but...
we are in combat with 1 opponent who is obviously NOT interested in diplomacy, is not trying to flee, is the object of the entire adventure's investigation, and has been unveiled as an enemy.
how does this not constitute a "threat?"
charm person is a utility spell meant to aid in diplomacy NOT a dominate person.
I didn't push the save bonus on Kavaki, because somehow she wasn't visible when the spell was cast, and had not been involved in combat actions yet, why not go ahead and role play that...
when an ally performs a combat action on a fellow ally, and that didn't break the spell, I suppose since there was no damage done, a person could still see acting "friendly" to that ally. Although it IS an attack on the mind of the target of daze.
but at this point, no bonus on the save for Branson is a bit over the top, in my opinion.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Out of curiosity, is the mod written with the tactics, that Ouidda uses charm person and doesn't ever actually attack anyone? It's an interesting take on a "final boss" fight
Milo Flamecursed |
The clause in the spell description that causes the spell to automatically break, isn't triggered by you being attacked by anyone.
It breaks automatically if (and only if) the person that charmed you (or one of the charmers allies) attacks or threatens you.
That hasn't happened yet... and since she didn't have any allies, it was not likely to happen... though technically Branson might count now =)
Branson probably should have received the +5 though, I can agree there.... but this result is a lot more interesting =)
Kavaki Gossamar |
agreed on interesting, but...
we're in combat and If Ouidda is now Kavaki's ally, and the rest of the party is his ally, doesn't that make the rest of the party Ouidda's ally? (in Kavaki's charmed state)
StephNyan |
I felt like 'threat' was a bit of a gray area, and so I looked up it's definition to clarify the situation for myself. Going by both the Merriam-Webster and [url=http://www.thefreedictionary.com/threat]TheFreeDictionary[url], most of the definitions speak of things like harm, pain, injury or punishment.
While 'misery' could apply to your situation, she's not actually causing you to suffer. So I ruled that one out.
Ouidda does want to 'inflict evil,' but has currently not made a single move that suggests she plans to 'inflict evil' in this combat. So I also ended up ruling this one out.
------
I cannot reveal too much about Ouidda's tactics at this point in time, but her main tactic is to avoid melee combat and rely on spells to turn you against each other. The massive damage Roland was inflicting caused me to switch to a more defensive approach of this tactic, and Ouidda is currently trying to execute her plan B.
------
Your 'relationships' are basically as follows:
1: Ouidda, Kavaki and Branson are allies.
2: Branson, Kavaki and the other party members are still allies.
3: No one but Branson and Kavaki likes Ouidda.
4: Ouidda doesn't like those who aren't her allies.
StephNyan |
Is there a bonus for doing parts 1 and 2 of this? Always seems odd having part 2 without part 1. =)
I agree there should be a special reward for completing both parts, but there is no such thing :(
Both parts of Shadow's Last Stand are actually mostly independent, but what happens in part 1 happens on Ouidda's orders. That's basically how they're tied.

Sweet, so not only is Milo an upstanding Free Citizen of the Republic according to the Andoran embassy in Absalom ... he now has an official writ of appreciation from the People's Council in Almas to back it up? =)
Ha!
Roland's right, they need a better vetting process.
