@ Gwen Very sorry to hear that. Obviously your family should come first so don't worry about us here just do what you need to do for you/your loved ones.
We'll be sure to keep Ery in line with his posts for you.
Vicard Inck |
Should we also take a move action later to give Gwen the Blind-Fight feat? Might as well make her effective.
I don't know the grappling rules well enough to post for her!
Eryzule, Lord of Tea |
I have applied the Squeeze!
Tereze Amnell |
Ery you have to make a grapple check at +13 and no miss chance for cover to do damage.
See the April 8th post at 4:30 as an example.
Eryzule, Lord of Tea |
acknowledged.
Urbar Anden |
That... is kinda funny :P
I am enjoying the game!
Eryzule, Lord of Tea |
I literally cannot wait to replace one of my lv 0's with disrupt undead... Also: When this missions is over, that's what I'll be doing as an edit.
On a side note: Ery is terrible at this flanking business. So much show does he actually count as flanking or being threatening enough to flank?
Tereze Amnell |
@Ery, Once yo do change spells, we probably won't hit undead for the next 5 levels. You know that right ;)
I do feel bad for you and Fiona because you can't do much here...
And yes I'm enjoying playing a lot. I forgot how much fun it is to only play one character rather then the whole world of NPCs.
Eryzule, Lord of Tea |
Not sure if it's cunning enough to "toy" with a target. But... You have a point.
StephNyan |
For those who aren't aware of it: PFS has Faction Journal Cards since the 13th of April. It's definitely worth checking out, 'cause you can get all kinds of cool boons for your characters! :)
Eryzule, Lord of Tea |
Those are neat!
Urbar Anden |
Would be there too late. Maybe if she joins us we can prevent that situation.
Tereze Amnell |
I'm going to be away Out of touch for the next 24 hours. So if Tereze's turn comes up, please someone else post for me.
My immediate plan is she is going to smack the undead next to her and try to keep the music alive. If possible (the undead next to her drops) she wants to move closer to the other side of the keyboard. If she knows where two undead are (or guesses two are above her in the pipes) she'll channel, but she only has two left for the day so she's saving them for an emergency (for others not her, they can't seem to hit her) or max effectiveness.
Oh and she might criticize Ery, but she's trying to help him not be mean ;)
StephNyan |
Do I need a Climb check to get back to the keys?
No, staying within attack range of the undead means you were just 5 feet above the ground. You can just drop yourself. Just keep in mind you'll be squeezing if you want to remain in that square, because 2/3 of the square is filled with organ.
Gwendallyn |
Hey all, I'm back. Long week, but we all survived. Thank you all for your well-wishes.
I think I will keep Gwen's actions as is to keep things moving along. Thank you, Ery, for posting for me while I was away.
Eryzule, Lord of Tea |
Sure thing!
Tereze Amnell |
Welcome back Gwen.
Eryzule, Lord of Tea |
You will be hugged and suggest at by Ery. Woo!
Tereze Amnell |
So here is my summary of climb for you all to reference:
Climb in pipes 1/4 speed: DC 10 + Armor check penalty
Climb in pipes 1/2 speed: DC 15 + Armor check penalty
You must have both hands free to climb, but once in a spot you can hang with one hand busy.
It is either 15 or 30 feet from the keyboard to the top of the pipes (can't tell)
You need to roll a climb check each round you try to move in the pipes or you can not move.
StephNyan |
Thanks Tereze! Here's some additional info for you, about the various heights:
It is 15 feet from the floor of the cathedral to the keys. It is 30 feet from the keys to the tops of the pipes.
The undead are hiding in between the pipes, each hanging from the tops with 1 hand and holding a rusted sickle in the other. Thus they're all 25 feet above the keys.
Tereze Amnell |
Thank you Vicard, I would have failed if I hadn't had your extra key.
Question, can I take 10 on these checks now that I'm not being attacked any more?
StephNyan |
No, sadly not. All of combat counts as a threatening, and you can't take 10 in such a situation :(
"When your character is not in immediate danger or distracted, you may choose to take 10. Instead of rolling 1d20 for the skill check, calculate your result as if you had rolled a 10. For many routine tasks, taking 10 makes them automatically successful. Distractions or threats (such as combat) make it impossible for a character to take 10. In most cases, taking 10 is purely a safety measure—you know (or expect) that an average roll will succeed but fear that a poor roll might fail, so you elect to settle for the average roll (a 10). Taking 10 is especially useful in situations where a particularly high roll wouldn't help." - Core Rulebook

This encounter while interesting on paper is going to be a slog. Obsurement DR and multi rounds of climbing to get to things that aren't threatening you is going to make this fight long...
Particularly for those who can't take any productive actions.
Eryzule, Lord of Tea |
Hey. Id like to point out, if this was a social or Living encounter...I'd be awesome!
Tereze Amnell |
@Steph you know you could do something to speed it up (like having them drop down) or just hand wave the rest of the fight because accolite girl called some nearby temples for help and they send in clerics to channel energy or something.
Not complaining, just saying.

Aren't his hands tied due to Society play?
StephNyan |
I'm afraid my hands are indeed somewhat tied. I can speed some stuff up, but I can't hand wave 4 enemies :/
Else I'd have let them descent by now, because they're not doing a very good job at what they're supposed to. Like someone guessed earlier, these things have a silent aura. They make no sound at all, and make use of this ability by blocking the sound that comes from the pipes they're on. Quite a useless strategy if you cannot cover all pipes...
Tereze Amnell |
Well I'm guessing they didn't expect a dancing oracle who by total coincidence is totally perfect to play the organ when they wrote this. I assume silenced keys don't count as being triggered. So if the keys are silenced and you are stuck near them being attacked I could see the song being hard to keep going.
Plus you rolled really bad this fight for all the guys on the ground.
Of course Gwen is pretty much perfect for her time in the pipes too.
Speaking of which Gwen can you use climb to move squares in the pipes rather then climbing up and down? It might get you to bad guys faster.
Gwendallyn |
PFS goes tie up GM hands pretty well sometimes. And yes, those terrible GM rolls are what saved our skins this fight... plus who knew Tereze was a professional organ player!! BOOM!
Well part of the problem is that Gwen doesn't really know where the last operative is due to the fog... Though I'll let Steph make that call whether or not she may have seen him before the fog rolled in. Though I suppose if I can manage the DC 15... I should be able to make it the other operative in 1 round as opposed to the 3-4 rounds I was initially (and obviously wrongly) thinking it would take...
Vicard Inck |
I will be out of town from Saturday at Noon to Monday evening. No internet whatsoever. Sorry but a short vacation is nice!
Just when this fight ends!
Vicard will do his best to keep up. I trust someone to roll for me. Don't use Luck or Inspiration unless you have to! Might need it for the final boss...
See you guys on Monday!

I'm totally fine with you using climb as Tereze suggested. The undead haven't moves from where they were when combat started, and of course Gwen could've seen their positions. And she saw many hadn't moved when the mist temporarily lifted.
