As one, the party swarms over Captain Faroon and brings her down!

Combat over.

"I see that you are the more powerful entity. I shall side with you, if you free me. Know that you will never reach Sevenfingers without me. Though, I admit, I am an evil man, I also know honor! I would feel indebted to you if you freed me. I have been trapped here too long, I can never leave the magic of the Gloomspires without my lost years catching up to me. I would like to settle in the old Maker's Sanctum. I promise to act as an ally and advisor for future Pathfinder expeditions to the tomb. I am especially eager for the Pathfinders to return and help me avenge myself against my old master."

He's telling the truth. The party, as a whole, must make a choice. Free Hrethnar and bring him to the Gloomspires, or leave him here.

"He is an Ulfen jarl of sorts, I am Ulfen by birth.... I vote free him..." Uthred whispers to the others.

Mareq is always looking for allies and sources of information, regardless of their temperaments. Everybody has a value. The trick is learning that value and how far they can be trusted, and then weighing those to things against each other.

"I believe he is telling the truth," says Mareq. "And he would be a formidable ally for the Pathfinders within the Gloomspires."

"Tell us your story, Hrethnar. How did you come to be imprisoned here, and what was that guardian?

Harrow's 'thoughts' turn to the guardian they had just promised they would not let him free.

"Harrow not think guardian like if we let go. Who guardian?"

"Yes, who, or what, was that guardian?"

Sorry for the slow posting. Real-life day job got crazy.

"Sempet Sevenfingers had a partnership of sorts with extra-planar allies. That guardian is among a group of them. One of the denizens of Leng."

"How did you come to be imprisoned here?"

"You say you evil man. If you get out of this place, what keep you from leaving and doing bad stuff?" Harrow asks.

Uthred is also curious about how the man came to be imprisoned here. "What say you Jarl- how did you come to be captive in this place?"

"I was imprisoned here because Sempet Sevenfingers is a pirate! I sought to usurp him, but he got the best of me."

"Because of my time here, I will age and die if I leave the Gloomspire. But, even that confined space is preferable to eternity on a single deck of a small boat."

"Sounds reasonable enough. My vote stays the same."

"And if we let go in rest of Gloomspire, you always help Pathfinders find stuff and not hurt them?" Harrow asks.

"Yes. If you free me, I would owe you that debt."

"Agreed then."

"OK just don't hurt anyone..or any friendly animals. Lilli smiles.

Does anybody object to letting Hrethnar go?

If you do let him go, how will you get past the guardian?

"Harrow think maybe go beat guardian. Harrow also want to know who put guardian there. If other bad guy, Harrow not really care if guardian still have job."

Yep. Sempet Sevenfingers arranged for the guardian to keep Hrethnar prisoner.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 Crikey!

"I respect that and vote to free you," says Berosius. "But can you tell us anything else about this place that might help us to fight the guardian as it seems we now must?"

Hrethnar is actually 14th level (albeit in a weakened state). I'm really, really glad that you guys were wise enough not to fight him. :-) If you choose to free Hrethnar, I'm going to hand-wave the guardian because, with his help, you're going to defeat it so easily. Mostly, I was just trying to get everyone to chime in on the party choice, since it is part of the scenario reporting!

Any other last-minute things you want to do here before freeing Hrethnar?

I'm glad we didn't fight him! No other last-minute stuff for me...

wow 14th level... glad we did not fight him... Uthred is content to leave this place as soon as possible

Freeing Hrethnar from his extradimensional prison is a simple matter of walking him through the portal atop the Voracious’s sterncastle. Hrethnar can’t go through the portal alone and must be accompanied to use it. Hrethnar eagerly explains this.

He therefore settles in the old Makers’ Sanctum and promises to act as an ally and advisor for future Pathfinder expeditions to the tomb. He is especially eager for the Pathfinders to return and help him
avenge himself against his old master.

Hrethnar spoke the truth when he said that only he could access Sevenfingers’s final tomb. The dor to this tomb only fades into existence on a particular date or when a specific set of events unfold (the date of Hrethnar’s mutiny).

Scenario over!

Uthred bids farewell to the Ulfen Jarl but he is also anxious to depart these lands for something with a tavern and serving wenches...

i have already played 8-17 at a convention. I guess this is where Uthred says good bye to the others and good riddance to Harrow... until the next society mission

Awesome! Thanks for running that! I've been loving the ongoing group. :) I'd love to continue on with Refugees, especially if Uthred's gone! That guy's a downer! Just kidding...I'll really miss him!

hit Uthred up after 8-17 if it is something he has not played already he may join... as long as Harrow learns to control his incessant crying after battle...

Mareq begins thinking about future endeavours. He's heard about this world's Jistka Imperium, long gone, but a formidable civilization of elementalists.

Perhaps the Pathfinders can offer me some insight into this group of mages. I'm sure they know something of them, he thinks to himself.
