A new day dawns in the Osirian trade city of Eto only hours following the meeting with Grandmaster Torch. In exchange for a handful of services, he delivered several maps and sketches of landmarks that collectively point the way to the last known resting place of one or more sage jewels—enchanted gems capable of storing memories of Osirion’s past and reviving the Sapphire Sage Amenopheus’s order. “Those will take you where you want to go,” Torch declared while handing over the maps. “Deviate from the path if you know what you’re doing.” As an afterthought, he added, “You’re not the only ones who know about that site. I hear a group of foreigners set out from Totra not too long ago and are after the same prize. Sounds like there’s no time to waste.”

The Pathfinders have several items left over from their adventures in Eto, including half of a weathered geode, a magical sending stone they can use to contact Amenopheus. When he gave it to the PCs, he informed them that it can transmit a message of several dozen words, to which he
can then respond, but the stones will only work once; he requested that the PCs only use it when they have found one of the sage jewels. (In Subtier 1–2) He also gave the pathfinders a field notebook containing helpful tricks for translating Ancient Osiriani and understanding the Jeweled Sages’ written codes.

Grandmaster Torch also gave the Pathfinders two maps of Osirion and a charcoal drawing. The first map clearly marks Eto and an unnamed site to the north. The second map has a much smaller scale and illustrates a winding route marked with many landmarks between Eto and the mystery location, though it’s clear that traveling in a straight line would be a faster, if more difficult, trip.

An oasis is marked on this map near the final destination, and notes describe a marker stone nearby whose shadow at sunset points toward the ruins. The charcoal drawing depicts two large rock outcroppings connected by a smooth wall with a single gate. The drawing is entitled “Seeker’s Folly” and signed “V.L.”

DC 15+:
The route described in Grandmaster Torch’s map is
rarely used, though the caravan masters are familiar with the oasis and the terrain surrounding it. They provide some advice about how to equip properly and avoid common desert hazards. granting the PCs a +1 bonus on any Survival checks made while traveling from Eto to Seeker’s Folly.

DC 20+:
The gnoll clans of the desert have grown increasingly bold, and abductions along the common trade routes are becoming increasingly common.

DC 25+:
A pair of travelers asked questions about the same
oasis a few days ago. One flashed a bronze badge bearing a snake emblem when questioned by customs agents.

DC 30+:
Survivors of the recent gnoll attacks remember that the gnolls often attacked during the hottest time of the day, when the camels were resting and the heat shimmer disguised the glimmer of the gnolls’ weapons. [ooc]bonus for later....

I'd normally post this in the discussion thread, but there isn't one: I'm fairly new to Pathfinder Society insomuch as Tugo is the first of my PFS characters to be used twice. My question is, is Tugo able to buy/sell/trade between events, or does he have to wait to do it in-game?

Reviewing the material provided by Grandmaster Torch, Tugo decides to ask what appears to be a traveling merchant the best way through the desert.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Tugo thanks the gentleman abundantly for his advice about equipping for, and avoiding hazards while traveling in the desert.

Tenake slowly made his way towards the location where the other Society members would be located. The hood of his cloak was pulled over his head and the strip of cloth covering the lower part of his head covered up to his nose. Dark eyes slowly going over those present in his surroundings. On his back was a well crafted longbow together with a quiver of arrows.

The slow rythmic taps of claws touching the occasional stone could be heard from the white tiger that was walking next to him. Occasionally his hand would rest on the large cat's head and scratch him behind his ears as he listened to his surroundings for a moment. Occasionally he would stop and reach out to one of the locals and ask them questions about the surrounding lay of the land and the surrounding desert. It would take a while till he would catch up with the halfling, the dwarf and his fellow companions.

Feeling reinvigorated and again ready to face the world after the ministration's of the Grandmaster's healers and a nights rest, Badriyah spends a little time a the market before rejoining the others. While there she picks up a few goods and asks a few careful questions about traveling in the desert before joining the others.

His dark eyes regarded each of his soon to be travel companions as his hand rested on the head of the massive tiger next to him. The tiger yawned for a brief moment, showing massive teeths before laying down next to him, swooshes of his tail could be heard as the tiger slowly closed his eyes, ears flickering at the slightest hint of sound that wasn't from the group.

"I am Tenaka Khan..." His voice sounded muffled through the cloth covering his mouth before he motioned to the tiger at his feet. "This is Waylander, my companion..." Frowning for a moment he remained silent as he considered the information he had gathered so far through listening and talking. "I am not sure how much you all have learned so far, but we might run into some unexpected issues down the road, I can most likely assist everyone through the desert should it be required..."

Mazon at first acts shy, hiding behind the companions she knows, then when she hears that Tenaka has a companion, she perks up.
"My name is Mazon." she says as she approaches Tenaka and Waylander. She then reaches into her hair and pulls out a little scorpion. "...and this is Rudolph." She places the scorpion on the ground and it heads over to Waylander to greet it.
"What did you have in mind for travel?"

Waylander lazily opened one eye when the scorpion made his way to him. The large cat seemingly nodded towards the scorpion before putting his head back on his paws lazily. Tenake regarded the exchange with a hint of a smile before turning to Mazon. "There are 3 ways we can cross the desert, first we can go with a caravan and hope we get there in time, second option will be crossing the desert to where we need to be by foot and finally, horses, but I am not sure who can afford one at this very moment..."

Tugo stands as tall as he can to address his taller new companions, then bows saying, "It's a pleasure, my name is Tugo. If riding is the plan then I am well equipped, for I am a Summoner and my Eidolon, Lizelotti, is an Alce Griffon--more than capable of keeping up with the horses. I've never been through a desert before, but the man at the store said these clothes would help with the heat at least," he says this last bit holding up the sleeves loosely hanging from his arms to display his breezy tunic.

Badriyah offers her former companions a warm smile and then introduces herself to those she doesn't know. "Badriyah Hameedah. It is a pleasure to meet you." She brushes stray strands of her dark hair behind her ear and smiles at Tugo. "Since I do not have such magical companions as Master Tugo for my travel, I will acquire a camel. It is my understanding that they are a bit hardier for desert journeys."

A frown caressing his features for a brief moment when realization seemed to confirm most didn't have any travelling mounts, him included. So it would depends on how long the trip to the oasis would take. When Badriyah spoke up and suggested camels a nod was given towards her. "Camels are indeed a good suggestion, I am sure we should be able to get a few here before we head out. Are we all good on supplies? If so, maybe time to get some camels and then head out, unless people have other suggestions or thinks we need to do?"

I'm assuming that's not a DC 10 Knowledge check, so...

"I'm afraid not Ser Dargerion," Tugo replied in reference to the badges, "But the extra waterskins aren't a bad idea. If I buy them, would you lot mind carrying them on your steeds? Wouldn't do a lot of good on Lotti if I have to dismiss her." After hearing their answer, he purchases two extra waterskins for the lot of them.

Most waystations along trade routes are a day's journey from the previous one. It is 8-9 hours from Eto. It can be done quicker using mounts or by traveling straight across the desert. The mapped route made for easy walking and cuts back and forth a lot. I added a line to illustrate :)

After renting three camels (horses) and a few days provisions the Pathfinders are prepared to leave. (General provisions are covered by the Society, the mounts will cost 10 gp a day)

He listened to all of them and then frowned for a moment when there was a mention about the badges and shook his head slowly to indicate he had no idea about who they were. A frown caressed his features as he crouched down and let his hand rest on the head of the tiger for a brief moment. "Before we go I will quickly buy some meat for my companion and some goodberries as it will help us with provisions." He turned his head to Tugo for a moment. "I will take the waterskin's with me for you."

Tenake will buy some meat for the tiger and a few goodberries, don't have the book with me atm so let me know the price and I will make the dice roll for the creation of goodberries as rations for the party

Badriyah nods her agreement. "The most direct route may also help us pass this group who has already set out." With the decision seemingly made she hurries to purchase additional water and rations for the journey.

A brief nod was given to his companions. He considered for a moment before looking towards the desert to think about what could happen on their road. Part of him was considering the possibility of sandstorms, how to handle it and keep on going towards their goal. A guide could be helpful but he decided against it to suggest it. Instead he took one of the goodberries and put a spell on it for the trip. "Settles then, let's get the last of our things and get ready..." He pulled the bandana back over the lower half of his face.

Shortly after leaving Eto, the group finds the first of the landmarks on Grandmaster Torch's map. A tree died centuries ago, but its large trunk has been polished by many hands since then. Where one branch fell away the heartwood became visible. Some rings faded to a silvery blue while others seem to be streaks of gold. They also take the shape of a dove with a blazing sun behind it, and has become known as 'Dawnflower's Tree.'

Deciding to cut straight across they leave the trail to make better time. Belvica (and maybe Tenaka) take the lead, though others can help guide them to oasis at the end of the map. Three survival skill checks are needed.

Tenaka I need your character sheet (specifically survival skill ranks. :) Belvica's survival skill is the highest, though others are able to aid her with a DC 10. Tenaka if yours is comparable you can either roll your own, or aid. Gathering of info earlier grants a +1 to these rolls.

According to the map, there is a stone marker somewhere near the oasis. At sunset its shadow points to the location known as Seeker's Folly.

Badriyah does her best to help out during the journey. Her relative inexperience in overland desert travel shows the first day, but she watches, learns, and is soon doing her share of the camp duties and helping out whenever possible.

Tugo summons Lizelotti in a minute-long ritual of bright golden light. The griffon immediately pounces on him and calls right in his face. A sound akin to an eagle's screech only much deeper. Tugo chuckles, "I know, I know! I've missed you too!" He smooths the feathers on her head back, revealing their shared symbol before hopping up on her back, and riding out with the others.

Core Helms ! Wizards Wanted Gameday X

Belvica seems confident of her directions and barely slows her pace under the unrelenting sun. The one time she even slightly falters Tenaka steps in and and the two agree on where they need to be. The day is hot and the riding is hard. Shortly after midday, the party reaches the oasis that marks the end of Torch's map.

The oasis shimmers like a sapphire in the midday heat. Life clings around its edges tenaciously, with only a few hardy plants nestled amid the rocks managing to survive in patches around the area. Finches bathe in the water, resting on an abandoned harness. Trash and castoffs from travelers litter the area, and a small brick hearth is the only permanent fixture.

EDIT: I used the same file and have changed to the name & the link above for the map. Tugo & Tanaka will need to add your avatars though. /edit. Please place your avatars. It will help if I know who went which direction. Some of you have to be much closer than others before the perception is a success. :) If it matters, you entered from the south.

Roll initiative! If you beat 1d20 ⇒ 19, please post an action. Please note most of you will not see the threat until you are 10 feet from it (or it moves). Belvica you can see it from the spot I put your avi, but you can start anywhere else back (south) of that if you wish. Tenaka is clear about where it is hiding.
