Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24.
Heinrich whistles long and low.
"That is certainly something that I was not expecting to see down here! Look at that..."
His voice trails off for a few moments, before he shakes himself from his stupor.
"Lads, I think there is some sort of magical effect that wants you to stay in the room. I don't like that. Now, I can't see anything of value in the room; shall we back out and try the next one?"
Archibald the Addlebrained |
Archibald grumbles as the party pause to mine the crystal. He only stops to ask Kalaron for a light before grumbling silently to himself, pipe stem bouncing to and fro, showering his already stained and tattered robes with ash.
Kalaron Boulderstep |
Kalaron blows out a long thin line of smoke even as he works along his fellow dwarves the mine the the metal. It's precious metal and who whos what else it could be made of?

Revvy Bitterleaf |
Since Kalaron stomps on toes I'm fine with everyone moving on unless someone decides to take a look inside the room.
As Heinrich moves towards the next door and opens it you see;
This large chamber is overgrown with foul-smelling mounds of strangely colored, shuddering fungi, many of which glow with a sickly green luminescence. A large alcove to the west seems less overgrown.
Metal bars wall off this alcove, but a door in the bars hangs ajar.
There are also 2 swollen, brainlike bulbs encrusted with fungal shelves squats atop several ropy legs. A wide mouth bisects the bulb's crown

She quickly closes the door to the western room, realizing she was under some magical effect.
My toes!
As she moves into the room with the fungi, Shayla draws her other sword as well. She takes a good look at the fungi.

@Cogstadt, as far as I know..to the initial target yes, it does nothing for the splash damage.
Cogstadt throws a bottle of burning oil over the top of the heads of the people in front of him and is relieved to see the vial makes it all the way into the room (even with the extra penalty to hit for throwing more then 1 range increment) and hitting one of the plants things.
Clandelve moves into the room but fails to bring his weapon down hard enough to deal any damage (doesn't hit flatfooted AC)
Heinrich then steps into the room and with one well placed swing is able to bring down one of the slightly burned plant things
Not wanting to be outdone by a dwarf Shalya takes one swing (You had to move, so not sure how you'd be getting another attack this round) cutting of a chunk of what ever it's made from
Archibald moves into the room as well No provoking yet, they are still flatfooted Reflex save for half damage: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 and summons forth a sheet of flames that washes over both plants, putting one down for good and leaving the other smoldering.
As you stand around it you can see some of the blackened parts start to turn back to a light greenish color (fast healing).
The plant thing tries to bite down on Shayla while trying to whip at her with both of it's tentacles.

Out of combat
Searching the room a bit you come up with nothing of particular interest, just some plant material.
Heinrich Morgenstein |
"Whoever built this place had rather eclectic tastes... Let's see what else there is down here."
Sighing, Heinrich heads over to the door on the opposite side of the main chamber, and prepares to open it once everyone else joins him.
Clandelve Hammerhand |
Clandelve looks at the bars in the fungus room.
"Wonder what this cell is fer," he muses.
He shrugs, then joins Heinrich and the others to the east.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Moving to the other side of the main hall you open a door (after Cogstadt gives the all clear signal that he didn't spot any trap)
A sinister statue looms in an alcove to the east. The thing is ten feet
tall with a human body, but with the head of a deformed, fanged bird and two coiling serpents for legs. The statue clutches a flail in one
hand, and holds a large, open book in the other.
You'd actually need a DC knowledge religion check to figure out what/who the statue is..but since it;s the same as the ghostly image you already encountered... It's the demon lord Abraxas.
After a quick search through the room (including a detect magic) you don't come up with anything that catches your interest and move on to examine the double set of doors in here.
They are unlocked and as far as you can tell, not trapped.
Clandelve Hammerhand |
"An offense ta all 'umanity," Clandelve observes as he passes the looming statue.
"Le's try th' southern doors, then," the dwarf suggests.

She walks up to the southern doors, holding both of her swords so she's ready for whatever is to come.
"Ready when you are," Shayla lets Heinrich and the others know.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Opening the doors to the south:
Doors sit in every wall of this short hall. Those to the north and south are double doors, and those to the east and west are barred doors beyond which empty rooms can be seen.
In this room are also two malignant clouds of shadows that boil in the air, its skeletal maw eerily babbling as the creature's claws manifest from the darkness.

Magic Missile: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 = 8
Clandelve Hammerhand |
Clandelve does not look happy at the mention of incorporeal undead, having once nearly succumbed to a shadow's strength drain.
"Jus' great!" he barks, but nevertheless prepares his sword and shield for battle. "We best deal wit' em now, then."
We may as well throw the doors back open and deal with them rather than waiting for them to come to us. At least it will be on our terms. Still, this bought us an extra saving throw when most of us had failed. Shayla, want to throw the doors back open?
Cogstadt Locksmith |
"Well, we should be ready in case they come through the door then," Cogstadt aims his crossbow at the door, readying an action to shoot should something materialise through it.
"Course ghosts and the like are often bound to a partic'lar place, so might not be a trouble."
Shayla Amye |
Shayla nods when Clandelve mentions dealing with the allips now. "I'll throw the doors back open when everyone's ready, but I have an idea."
"Kalaron, you say their babbling does this? So if everyone tears off a piece of their clothes, and puts it in their ears? It'll make the babbling harder to hear. We may also want to try making noise: their babbling will never reach our cloth-filled ears if we make a lot of noise."
Shayla, not realizing she can't be affected by the allips anymore, tears off two small pieces of cloth from her shirt. After putring the cloth in her ears, Shayla starts singing as loud as she can.
"I CAN NOT SING, BUT I DON'T CAAARE!
I WILL JUST SING, EV-RY-WHEEERE!
AND IF YOU DON'T, REALLY LIKE MY VOOOICE!
THAT'S BAD FOR YOU, 'CAUSE I LIKE THE NOOOICE!"
When everyone seems ready, which Shayla checks by looking over her shoulder, she will push the doors open again.
I hope both of these measures will provide some aid to those who haven't made their first save. You can't be fascinated by babbling you can't hear, or at least it should be more difficult to fail the save if you can only barely hear it? Not sure on the actions though: ripping cloth off my shirt, and putting it into my ears equals... 2 move actions?
Opening both doors, probably 1 move action a door, will then have to wait a turn. Though the allips didn't move through the doors on their first turn, and I'm hoping that means they'll stay inside the room while the doors are closed.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
They didn't move yet because I didn't want to deal with there isn't enough room for them to end after one move because it's filled with dwarves..also it's more fun to ambush you later with them when you are already busy fighting something else ;)
I like Shayla's idea, so everyone can have a +2 circumstance bonus on their save as she's drowning out the noise..to not over complicate things...we'll just start initiative again when you guys open up the doors
So...will save DC 15 vs sonic, mind-affecting compulsion effect(with a +2 circumstance bonus) for those of you that didn't save yet or become fascinated for 2d4 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5 rounds
