Shayla finishes tying her ponytail back up while she steps into the hallway, and she takes a good look around her. The hallway itself amuses her, and Shayla shakes her head while she snickers.

What fool paints stars on the floor? The sky's above us, not below.

The company Shayla's in consists mostly out of dwarves. There's one human though, and she decides to ignore the human as she introduces herself to the others: "I'm Shayla, I heard you lot are exploring this place."

"You ready to go?" she asks, not even bothering to ask the group if they actually want her to join them.

To summarize for the new people;

A party of dwarven adventurers got together in Absolom to explore the recently exposed insides of one of the siege towers there and after doing good job on it and rescuing a pathfinder from inside got drafted into the Society. (Master of the Fallen Fortress)

Having no one better around to send the Society send them on a mission to investigate some missing corpses which led them into a dungeon where a mad former cleric was making an army of alchemical undead (not naming in case of spoilers)

Then they got the hang of the exploring part and moved to Thornkeep where they cleared 2 levels full of stuff and found a huge door on the second level which leads to the staircase you just came down from. Feeling they needed some added "expertise" they send word to the society who send in 2 additions to the team.

Map is up, you guys start in the SE part

(Just repeating room description again)
A ten-foot-wide hallway curves north, where a flight of stairs descends to a corridor leading to a octagonal central chamber. Iron bars separate this room from the eastern and southern hallways, and the floor of the chamber is painted with what appears to be a night sky filled with stars.

As Cogstadt investigates the doors are not trapped or locked.
When you open them and walk in you see;

The northern section of the hall surrounding the central chamber features a single shelf that runs along the north and west walls . Dozens of ancient books sit on the se shelves , but time has caused the words to fade from their pages , and any attempt to handle the tomes causes them to crumble to dust.
Simply scanning the spines reveals many intriguing titles written in Azlanti.

book titles if you read Azlanti:
Dreams in Liavara's Womb, Whispers from the Red Star, and A Myriad Mirrored.

A phrase is carved in Azlanti over the western doors :

Azlanti:
"Behold and Wonder, for Beyond Lie Enigmas ! "

"Bah! Slow down you insufferable elfling!"

The wizard's complaining arrives much sooner than he does, his staff tapping across the floor as he emerges down the stairwell, puffing and red-faced. He straightens his hat and folds his arms with a theatrical harrumph. "I say old girl, are you off your chump? Storming off ahead like that." he says, sore, and wanting everybody to know about it. Clandelve's praises however, seem to mollify him somewhat. "Reccomended, hrm? Yes, quite right."

Endeavouring to show that he is, in fact, all business, Archibald will begin a low chant, eyes rolling back into his skull as he detects magic on the floor. Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Since there's no hurry ..take 20 is fine

Cogstadt detect no traps on the door

Archibald detects no magic on the floor.

The stars painted on the central floor constitute a map of the night sky-a star chart that places Golarion's solar system at the center and dozens of other smaller stars in the outlying reaches.

Opening the door you see;
This thirty-foot-diameter room seems something like a silo-the domed ceiling rises twenty feet above, and the floor drops away into darkness below. A ten-foot-wide stone bridge with no railings crosses the shaft to a hall and door in the opposite side, yet a one foot-wide gap separates the bridge from either hall. Below, two additional archways lie in the north and south walls of the shaft, thirty feet below the level of the upper entrances.

The floor of this room is 60 feet below the level of the hallways.
The walls of the room are relatively smooth ( but might be scaled with a climb check).
The ground below is hard and littered with numerous rotted and skeletal goblin bodies-unfortunates who wandered too far from their territory and were purged by the bridge's guardian.
The bridge in the middle of the room is supported by a single 10-foot-wide pillar that extends down from its center to the floor below.

In the center is a flickering, ghostly image. The figure appears as a vaguely humanoid monster with the deformed head of a fanged bird and two coiling serpents for legs

Knobbly knees trembling beneath his musty robes, Archibald takes several hurried paces backward, nearly tripping over one of the skeletal goblins in the process. When he's well and truly behind the Dwarves, he gives them a few insistent nudges with his staff. "You've stumbled upon quite a find here, my good masters. At Cogstadt response there is no visible change to the ghostly image. It just stands perfectly still doing nothing.

This is a bit weirdly written, if you don't respond he tries in a different language..if you respond correctly something happens...but when you respond wrongly it does....nothing. I think it's a slight oversight in the way it's written and I'll treat a wrong response the same as no response.

MW Dwarven Waraxe attack (power attack): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 for MW Dwarven Waraxe damage (power attack): 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 Step up: If adjacent foe attempts to 5' step away from me, I will make 5' step as immediate action.

Clandelve is able to slice through most of the snake that was wrapped around Archibald, just barely missing the human with the edge of his axe causing 2 parts of snake to fall on either side of Archibald.

Heinrich waits patiently for space to open up.

Just put him in delay for the moment, since there really isn't room for him to get in on the combat ;-)

I figured if they were flying Shayla could see them over the heads of her comrades. I should've asked about that, pardon!

Arrow 1, Rapid Shot, -4 Cover: 1d20 + 7 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 7 - 2 - 4 = 20 Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Arrow 2, Rapid Shot, -4 Cover: 1d20 + 7 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 7 - 2 - 4 = 17 Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

From her less-than-ideal position Shayla shoots two more arrows, fairly sure she'll be able to kill the remaining snake with those. "Pew pew!"

Ah, sorry..they ain't flying that high..but it does matter that they are flying..since they could leave the bridge and can't be tripped and things like that so I mentioned it

Cogstadt will try and shoot at the other snake, or if that seems too improbable (not sure what cover etc it's going to have there) he'll shoot at the figure instead.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Shayla manages to fire one more arrow into a snake, but her other arrow is deflected when the snake moves a bit to the side (not flat footed anymore, so he get's dex bonus now) and the arrow bounces of it's though scales but fails to cause any damage due to the angle the arrow has to arrive at when Shayla doesn't want to shoot Archibald in his back.

Cogstadt has no trouble aiming past Clandelve and shoots a crossbow bolt into the snake

Shayla jumps up and down to see if she hit the snake. After several jumps she realizes the snake's still alive.

Whaaat? It didn't hit?!

She stops jumping, and a disappointed expression shows on her face.

Bummer...

I really like constrictors, and plan to give Shayla one as animal companion when she reaches level 4 :)

Archibald's eyes widen with surprise as the snakes manage to steer clear of his blast. His gambit not paying off, he's subject to a vicious bite and several bruised ribs before Clandelve fells the snake. He bats the remains of his foe away with his staff and shakes off the pain, allowing the dwarves to pull him behind the lines. (Withdraw action). "Ha! It'll take more than that to put this wizard out of print. I was Arcanimarium Middleweight champion for four years running, I'll have you know. Those were the days. Nothing like a scrap in the ring to get the blood pumping..." Archibald says, launching into a long, wistful anecdote and apparently forgetting about the combat.

Fair enough.

Heinrich trudges forward, and takes a swing at the remaining snake.

MW Cold Iron Nodachi: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22, for 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14 damage.

Heinrich trudges forward and with a swing of his Nodachi slices the head of the remaining snake.

As the last snake hits the floor both snakes and the spectral image floating above the bridge vanish into thin air.

Shayla moves as close to the edge as she can without pushing anyone off. She takes her grappling hook and one of her ropes out of her backpack after swinging her bow on her back, and attaches the hook to the rope. "This should get us down."

If given enough space Shayla will place the grappling hook. She'll test if the hook stays in place by pulling the top of the rope while the hook's on the ground.

Don't know how smooth this smooth floor is, but I expect the hook won't slide while one's full weight is hanging from the rope? (A bit overcautious perhaps, but oh well.)

Heinrich gives Shayla a rather bemused look.

"Why do we need to go down? The path appears to continue on the other side of the bridge..."
