"Wait, bring back the treaty on religion" Faeranduil says to his invisible servant while he walks over to counselor Bravok.

"Are you aware that a lot of giants are quite superstitious? If you get them to believe their gods are not backing this war their morale might suffer" Faeranduil goes on and gives his opinion how this might be achieved.

Terrill seems to impress Dhiara with his diplomatic prowess, while Harsk's knowledge of the lay of the land seems also to impress her. Kazzok's knowledge of traps and trails impresses Kalla, while Faeranduil impresses Bravok with his ideas of demoralizing the giants.

Finally Kalla lets out a deep sigh and looks around. "Get some rest. We've got a few hours, then the assault leaves at dusk." You are offered a communal room in a local home.

This is a settlement, so you can find magic items up to 1,500 gp if you desire. Otherwise let me know of any actions you'd like to take and I'll start the assault later!

"Are the ruins close to where the assault will be? And do you think we can find a place to rest before we enter the ruins?

Would anyone like a stoneskin? I have one prepared. A donation of some diamond dust would be appreciated. Duration is 90 minutes and I assume we know when we get close so I can buff before the assault starts.

Once we get close to where the action is supposed to happen Faeranduil will cast extended heightened awareness, resist energy (electricity), extended resist energy, communal (fire) and see invisibility, If everyone in the party has darkvision he will also cast extended darkvision

Extended Resist Energy Communal: total 2*9*10=180 minutes: everyone (6 characters) gets 30 minutes resist fire 20.

Faeranduil enters town and seeks out a wizard. He scribes tongues from the wizard's spellbook and also buys a scroll of tongues. In total this costs him four hours. If there is not enough time he will only buy the scroll.

Spellcraft take 10 DC 18: 10 + 19 = 29
Scroll of tongues = 3*5*25 = 375. Scribing costs = 1.5*90 = 135.

Dusk comes and you are loaded onto a small boat along with a host of Averakan troops. You head down the river, the Little Thunder, moving in near- dark and near-silence.

The Little Thunder comes to a sudden stop at a crude dam, built with mud, stones, and logs. Muddy water trickles through the dam and drifts sluggishly to the north. A small stone outpost on the east bank of the river has been heavily damaged, its outside walls chipped and scraped.

You haven't been spotted yet and your Averakan allies are clustered behind you, awaiting the order to attack. What are you doing? Keep in mind if you do anything to trigger the enemy to notice you, then we immediately go into initiative.

Stoneskin would be grand, but Harsk doesn't have enough gold of his own to spend.

As they approach the jetty a black and white cannonball of fur collides with Harsk. "Oof!... Git out of it, Biter, yer mangy creature!" he says, managing to grab the badger by the scruff of it's neck (although not without losing a clump of beard in the process). "Thought I was finally rid of yer, damned pest. Off riflin' through trash heaps by the state of yer."

Holding the creature at arms length, Harsk glowers at it before giving a resigned sigh. "Would yer quit giving me that look? Blast it, back into the pack with yer. But if you get into the tanglefoot bag again I'll be bloody well leaving you on this island." he says, lifting the creature onto his shoulder, wincing at the sharp pain in his back as the badger squirms into his pack, kicking him several times before getting comfortable. With a put-upon sigh, Harsk steps aboard the ship.

At the dam, Harsk will cast gravity bow and move into position. I'm happy to start the fight from range like you suggested. Is there any cover we can hide behind? If so:

"I think lighting them up is a fine start, Faeranduil" Terrill says quietly, his attention on the giants. "Though I will be most effective if I can get closer to them. Perhaps we can stop them at the end of the bridge and only fight one of them at a time?"

If we can stay close together and get haste on all of us after the fireball, that would be great.

"They're going to get somebody killed, chargin' off like that." Harsk grumbles from afar. Hollering out a warning to no avail, "WATCH THE BLEEDING SPELL, YOU IDIOTS!"

Biter, trapped underfoot and repeatedly trodden on, begins to rage. Burrowing underground with terrifying efficiency, he readies his subterranean assault for next round. Haste adds to my burrow speed as well, which is really cool. Unfortunately I'm just a few squares shy of a flank. How are the Averkans moving so quickly? Are they under the effects of the haste?

Terrill moves closer, but the mob prevents him from closing. Kazzok drinks a potion and flies out over the water. The tentacles grab friend and foe alike, squeezing them harshly. Under this assault, another giant falls! Xiaobo leaps into the tentacles, landing next to the giant in time to be grabbed by the lashing tentacles! Harsk's bolt strikes a giant, as Biter burrows.

Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 The only giant still alive in the tentacles gets covered with glitter and blinded as well!

Both giants take the full blast of the attack, crying out in pain! The blinded giant flails about, but cannot escape the tentacles! The other giant smashes his club into the dam again! The damn's cracks expand and it begins to shudder underfoot, causing the Averakans to be knocked from their feet in a pile!

Xiaobo knocks the tentacle-ridden giant to the ground with a clever manuever, then proceeds to beat him soundly. It's not until he's disarmed the giant that he realizes that he seems to have killed the brute with his first attack!

Harsk shoots the last giant, just as Terrill appears suddenly next to it and uses the bolt's distraction to slip his blade beneath the giant's grasp and disembowel it!

Suddenly the dam is quiet, save for the waving of tentacles and the spray of water through the cracked earthworks.

Combat over!

The small building nearby seems to be an outpost. The outpost contains four large burlap sacks filled with the hill giant’s most prized possessions. While most of the items are nearly worthless to you, such as the log with hundreds of hair-covered nails and the strips of shredded clothing roughly sewn together into a blanket, other items are valuable. The sacks contain a masterwork dire flail, a masterwork halberd, a phylactery of faithfulness with its scripture torn out, and a stone of alarm. They also contain the following art objects, worth a total of 5,000 gp: an ivory-and-jet cloak clasp, a darkwood ship’s figurehead depicting a roaring linnorm, a platinum crown stripped of gems, a leather satchel stuffed with cat’s eye opals of varying sizes, a golden flute with its holes stoppered with wax, and a collection of masterfully painted ceramic jugs containing ale of dubious quality.

The Averakans regroup, taking the moment to patch wounds, refill their ammo and ready for the next mission. They look slightly in awe at the speed in which you dispatched the giants.

"Well fought, everyone!" Terrill cries out, looking around and noting that they've defeated the giants without taking a single injury themselves. "I hope the giants haven't done too much damage to the dam. Does anyone know anything about structures like this?" he asks, directing the question mostly to Faeranduil.

Once a quick search of the outpost is completed, he says, "Right, let's keep moving."

Not sure if we've more orc-foes to fight or if we head to the ruins now. We were given a map by our Averakan friends, no?

Searching the outpost also yields a scrap of paper, presumably from the scout sent out by the Averakans. It reads:
"I’ve noticed an unusually high amount of giant activity nearby. Most pressingly, I spotted a group of trolls and ogres heading with purpose toward the west, in the direction of the Winter Lodge. I’m heading to the Winter Lodge to investigate. I’ve sketched my planned route below. From there, I will go wherever the giants lead me. If you find this update, please deliver it to Averaka."

A simple, but effective drawing details a route to a location a few hours walk away.

With that, Harsk will stomp up the trail toward their own destination. Harsk: People Person
