Actually that was the GM's way of explaining why Kalaron's talking to them didn't work ;)
Shalya moves forward and fires an arrow into one of the mud elementals hitting it and watches the arrow sink into the muck..
As the big snake moves onto the bridge the lightning elemental surges forward when Cogstadt fires his crossbow at it but misses and where it is promptly grabbed by the snake as it gets close.
The mud elementals move forward, Clandelve hits one as it starts to moves up the stairs towards him before the elemental seems to try to envelop Clandelve in some mud
To hit AC Clandelve: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Damage Clandelve: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
and a fort save DC 14 or you are covered in mud which leaves you entangled this round..and starts to harden.
The other one glides through the earth, dissapearing from where he was standing and emerges in the center of all of you.
Reemerging provokes from Heinrich, Kalaron, Shayla, the snake, cogstadt and clandelve..but the snake can't cause it's grappling..shayla and cogstadt have ranged weapons..and as far as I know Kalaron is wielding his reach weapon..so just Heinrich and Clandelve I think

Archibald will cast enlarge person on Clandelve (coming into effect this round) and squeeze past Kalaron to deliver a wallop with his staff.

Then, spinning the opposite direction, he unleashes additional attacks on the first elemental he had engaged. He looks around as he suddenly begins to grow. Not sure when the enlarge spell kicks in, but if they should apply to these attacks, I get a -1 to hit and +1 damage...

Archibald enlarges Clandelve ...sort of,I don't know how this is supposed to work..so just going to do something to keep the game moving. There isn't any room for him to grow..since he's not restricted by space there's no need for a strength check to burst free, he's just surrounded by creatures..so he could grow to as large as he can and then stop..which won't do anything..or he will grow bigger now and I'll have him squeezing for some penalties now..but the benefits later..going to go with the squeezing now..since even if he magically was able to push the elemental away..he'd be 3/4th over the edge..
Archibald then lands his staff somewhere in the mud where the blow is harmlessly absorbed (doesn't hit AC)
Clandelve unbalanced by his sudden growth spurt fails to connect with the mudelemental, but does manage to shake of most of the mud that was still clinging to him
Cogstadt manages to pierce the mud and swiping away some of it as he sticks his rapier into the creature
Heinrich's attack sails over the mud without cutting it
Shalya fails to deal any sort of damage to the mud elemental with her sabre
The snake squeezes the lightning elemental and it falls apart in a cloud of sparks
The mudelemental in front of Clandelve slams into him again

Your combined attacks (other then Archibalds staff and Clandelve's attacks which just plain miss..but don't matter anymore since the elementals will have gone down by then) are more then enough to bring down the elementals to their base components of..well, some dirt and puddles of water
To bad you made your last save Clandelve ..you would have been helpless in a cocoon of clay otherwise ;)
Archibald and Clandelve, covered in heavy mud are having trouble with their movements..causing them to miss their target..and generaly slow them down..
It's going to take 10 minutes ...or a whole bunch of water to wash it off to get rid of the mud. In time you will notice that it will start to fall of, so it's reasonable to assume that you will know that with time it won't be a problem anymore..so you can just wait for that time (and loose the enlarge person on Clandelve)..or move further with the entangled condition. But it seems as if Kalaron has create water ..so he can just wash it of you guys in 2d3 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3rounds
The owl sitting on his branch just looks at you curiously.

Shayla walks toward the owl, but keeps a distance of thirty feet to not scare it off.

As Archibald casts detect magic it takes him a moment to focus past the overall present aura of magic in the area and study the owl more closely..it has a magical aura..inside it. It must have swallowed magical item.
As Shayla starts to talk to it it just turns it's head left..and then right.. as it sets up in it's tree looking down at you.

"Hmm... shall we press on for now, and return here tomorrow?" Shayla suggests. "Tomorrow, I can prepare a spell that lets me actually talk to the owl."

Shayla takes one of her arrows, cuts the tip off with one of her swords, and rubs the 'new' tip against the floor until it's blunt. She shows the arrow to the others when done. "Blunt arrow. I'll be able to just knock the owl unconscious with this, instead of killing it."
Aiming her bow carefully, Shayla takes a deep breath before she releases the nonlethal arrow.

As Shalya's arrow hit's the poor owl it keels over from massive head trauma and falls from the tree landing with a soft *thud*

A cursory inspection reveals a hard, foreign object buried in its gullet. A successful DC 19 Heal check is sufficient for a PC to dislodge the object without harming the
owl ..don't think that's needed now)
If you take it out it reveals an amulet set with a large, beetle- shaped ruby. The amulet is the source of the magic Archibald detected earlier inside the owl.
Once the amulet is removed from the owl, the room's illusions fade, revealing the plain stone ceiling above and rough stalagmites in place of the dead trees below.

It doesn't take long for Shayla's practical side to take over, and after gutting the owl she retrieves the amulet. "I wonder what it does?"

He looks around at the new surroundings.
"Someone wants ta craft these chambers after 'is own likin', tha' be certain. We best continue on, an' I suspect we'll be findin' 'im, in th' end," he says as he moves toward the lower exit.

Shayla is unable to figure out what the amulet does but together with Archibald they are eventually able to figure out that it's a golembane scarab.
Following after Heinrich everyone makes their way to the door on the other side of the room.
Cogstadt checks out the door and finds it to be not trapped or closed and gives the all clear to have it opened while he moves back in line.
A tunnel of salty air is the only dry space in this room. Surrounding the tunnel on both sides and above is a massive body of clear blue water, magically suspended and prevented from collapsing upon the passage by some invisible force. Hills of coral cover the sea floor, bristling with all manner of plants, tiny darting fish, and anemones. The tunnel leading through this watery chamber bends and forks throughout the room, leading to wooden doorways positioned on the east, west, and south.
In the water are swimming 3 creatures that look like hybrids of human and shark holds its spear menacingly, thick, glistening saliva dripping from its razor-sharp teeth.
