Dave the Mariner |
Dave picks up his lantern off the floor and resumes his position in the marching order. Shall we tighten it up a bit? I think all attempts at stealth are out the window after our skirmish with those...those..hand things? What? Were they alive what was that? Dave is a bit disturbed but not un-nerved.
DM Carbide |
Jack finds nothing but carrion (though considering that you're here to find a body thief, this is a strong indication that you're in the right area).
Where to now? You can still try to climb up the shaft, or you can take the stairs, or go back the way you came.
Warren Peace the Little |
"Good idea, but lets keep going and clear out this route first, then move onto some other side corrider as needed."
Two Blades in the Shadows |
With the hands dealt with, Two Blades started scouting ahead, quietly moving up the stairs as he checked for traps.
stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Perception(traps): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
DM Carbide |
Two Blades, have you marked wand charges used to heal yourself?
DM Carbide |
The corridor terminates in a T-intersection, with stairways going up to the north and south. There are no doors apparent, but the hallways continue beyond your ability to see.
Two Blades in the Shadows |
Looking to the North and South, Two Blades headed down the stairs to the South, waiting at the bottom for the others to enter his view before continuing down the corridor.
Dave the Mariner |
Dave decides to move up to Two blades and Warren. Don't like that you two are up here alone. But, you got a better eye for them traps than the rest of us. I want to stay close in case another bunch of ugly crawling things happen about.,. Just tell me where. ( Warren / Two blades place my pawn some where behind you guys as we move forward.
DM Carbide |
The stairs go up, not down.

Dale~ |
Dale follows along, awaiting the next inevitable challenge. Good with my position.
DM Carbide |
The hall continues south.
Two Blades in the Shadows |
Two Blades kept heading South, looking to see if there was any rooms to checkout in that direction, trying to stay near his friends but far enough that he was not heard.
stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Perception(traps): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Warren Peace the Little |
Warren quietly urges the remaining party members onward, as Two Blades selflessly leads the group onward to victory. Or, given how this group has been going for me, certain death
Dale~ |
Dale resists the urge to whistle to himself while following along.
Dave the Mariner |
Dave moves along as quietly as he is able; stealth: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12: He stalks along a few feet behind his rogue friends...ready for anything.
DM Carbide |
The first indication that Two Blades has of anything out of the ordinary is when four arrows come sailing out of the darkness at him. Two glance off his armor, but two stick shallowly for 4 HP total.
Round 1:
Initiative order
Warren
Jack
Resolute
Enemies
Two Blades
Dave
Dale
Warren, Jack, and Resolute can act! I have the limit of how far Resolute can see marked, with the assumption that Two Blades has a light spell effect on his person at the moment. Everyone without low-light vision can only see twenty feet. Keep in mind that if you advance past the edge without a light source yourself you will be unable to see.
Dave Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Resolute Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

Arrow to Two Blades: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Arrow damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
Warren Peace the Little |
"Dale, give me some light, please, so I can see!"
Once Dale cast light on someone of Warren's (like her sword), she will move foreward.
"Resolute" |
Resolute advances 30 feet (move action) and holds his weapon out in front of him to block any incoming arrows (total defense).
"We must hasten the fight to them!"
Can someone move me 6 squares, please?
AC temporarily increased to 23, but it's a Dodge bonus, so it won't apply until we can see our foes.

GM please keep in mind Dave currently has a lit lantern in hand as well as Resolute 's MW sword in his main hand
*edit* for reference Dave picks his lantern off the floor on the 2nd post of this page and Dave should be right behind Warren and Two bladesDM Carbide |
Ah, that's right. What kind of lantern do you have? I'm at work, and have no access to HL.
Dale~ |
Was waiting for my turn... from the 2nd to last GM post we are in initiative and it's not my turn.
"Give me a second."
Dave the Mariner |
Sorry guys a little tardy on updating some of these characters sheets. I'll get to it this weekend . It is a hooded lantern..
Dave peers down the hall to try and get a glimpse of the archer perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
DM Carbide |
Until Dave moves, Resolute won't be able to see the source of the arrows--hooded lantern illuminates 30' normal, and another 30' is dim light. However, Dave started out 65' from the source of the arrows. (Now, a bullseye lantern would have been a different story....) Incidentally, Warren, given your position Dale isn't going to be able to reach you and cast the spell.

Dale
As the closest target, Resolute becomes the focus of the unseen archers' attentions. One arrow clatters off of the wall before it reaches him, another glances off of his armor, the barbarian's catlike reflexes enable him to dodge the third, but as he twists to avoid it the fourth one finds a vital spot for 14 HP. Consecutive 20s...Two Blades is lucky you moved up, Resolute, because he would have eaten the crit plus two more hits, and would probably be down now.
Two Blades, Dave, and Dale can act!
Arrow to Resolute: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Arrow to Resolute: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Arrow to Resolute: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Arrow to Resolute, confirm: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Arrow damage: 1d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + (6, 4) = 14
Warren Peace the Little |
Incidentally, Warren, given your position Dale isn't going to be able to reach you and cast the spell.
It is a delayed move until after Dale casts Light on my weapon (or something similar.... "Once Dale cast light on someone of Warren's (like her sword), she will move foreward." (from my post above)
DM Carbide |
Then you need to keep your icon in its starting position, to avoid ambiguity.
Dale~ |
Going to assume that Warren delayed, so Dale will move forward and cast light on her weapon.
Dale strides forwards, casting Light upon Warren's weapon. "There ya go!"
Dave the Mariner |
Dave witlessness a hail of arrows pour down on his companions and decides to act. He marches forward steadily with lantern in hand to illuminate his unseen enemies. I've had just about enough of this! Dave announces as he strides purposely forward sword and lantern in hand.
Dave double moves forward when it's his turn.
Two Blades in the Shadows |
Two Blades moved forward, hoping to start slashing at some archers.
Move 40 and if I can see the archers, charge. Attack roll is for dealing with them. Ac 16 with the charge
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 131d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
DM Carbide |
Dave pointed out that I got the lighting effects wrong, so you're in some luck. (At least Two Blades is; he'll take less damage.)
Two Blades heads up the stairs to the south, followed closely by Warren, with Dave and Resolute behind them. Dave's lantern illuminates the intersection from his position at the bottom of the stairs, but the light does not reach past the top of the stairs. (That is, with Dave ten feet below the rest of the corridor, he only has line of effect a little ways down the hall.) As Two Blades reaches the top of the stairs, four arrows flash out of the darkness ahead. All, however, miss him because of the effing range penalty. So take back the 4 HP.
Round 1:
Warren begins by delaying until she can get Dale's help. Resolute advances warily, still unable to see past the circle of Two Blades' light. Jack moves up behind the elf. Of the next salvo of arrows, one finds Resolute for the same 14 HP.
As Dave reaches the top of the stairs on his way forward, Resolute finally catches a glimpse of the previously-unseen archers. There are four skeletal figures near a pair of openings in the corridor walls. Two Blades realizes that he can't reach them, even charging. Dale casts light on Warren's shortsword.
Two Blades, what do you want to do instead of charging?
DM Carbide |
Two Blades drops to the floor, allowing the more heavily-armored party members to clear a path.

Resolute charges forward and shoves his ranseur into the undead ribcage; a quick twist, and the unnaturally-animated bones fall to pieces, at rest at last.
Jack can act now. Keep in mind that for Jack the skeleta are in dim light, so he has a 20% miss chance.

All three skeletons claw at Jack as he tries to get by them. Only one hits for 6 HP. They retreat away from Jack, then continue to fire at Resolute. Again, only one arrow gets past the elf's guard and armor and inflicts 3 HP.
Two Blades, Dave, Dale, and Warren up!
