Aid Tokens:

Aid Tokens
Once per encounter, any character at a table can use an Aid Token to assist the group in one of five ways described below. Once a table uses an Aid Token, the token grants no further benefit until the end of the encounter, at which point one of the players can pass the Aid Token to a neighboring table for them to use. It is very important that the players remember that there are a limited number of Aid Tokens, and hoarding one means that somebody else doesn’t get to use it. An Aid Token’s benefits can take one of the following five forms.

Aid Another: Ralph gives advice via a sending spell to help you solve a puzzle, disable a trap, or accomplish some other task as if performing the aid another action for a PC. The bonus for this aid is +3.
Allied Offensive: Ralph happens to be in a battle nearby and spares a moment to direct a long-range magical attack on a creature at the same time as the PC, increasing the damage dealt by one attack by 2d8 points. In addition, after the attack, the target is momentarily disoriented and anyone attacking the target is considered to be flanking it until the beginning of the attacker’s next turn.
Burst of Healing: Ralph asks a nearby cleric to send a burst of positive energy through the token. This heals all of the PCs of 3d6 points of damage. Alternatively, Ralph can send one of these spells thorugh the token to one of you: neutralize poison, remove curse, or remove disease with a caster level of 6.
Spellcasting Synergy: Ralph sends a surge of magical energy through the token as you cast a spell increasing the save DC and caster level of the PC’s spell by 1.
Timely Inspiration: Ralph broadcasts the effects of a bard’s inspire courage bardic performance for 3 rounds. The competence bonus is +2.

Van splashes one of the serpentfolk images with acid, and it tumbles to the floor with a gurgle as the other images also disappear.

Blanmieux gathers his resolve and thrusts deep into the ankylosaurus, almost bringing it down, but the ankylosaurus bellows in rage as it musters the strength for one final blow. However, Torrag and Twitter fire more acid at the ankylosaurus, and easily hit the huge beast. The acid burns into its thick hide, and the combined weight of all its wounds proves just enough to tip it over the edge. It falls to the ground with a shudder, and does not get up again.

Turn 3
Twitter
Torrag
Blanmieux -63hp, +19 temporary hp

Combat over.

You search your fallen opponents, but find no valuables apart from the serpentfolk's masterwork dagger. However, you also realise that a beast such as the ankylosaurus is a rare sight on Golarion, and notes on its unique anatomy will no doubt prove valuable to the Pathfinder Society. Fortunately, your group is more than adequately skilled to take the necessary notes whilst your barbarian sees to his wounds.

You may make a Craft(painting), Handle Animal, Heal, Knowledge (nature), Profession (clerk, farmer, scribe, shepherd, or stable master), or Survival check to attempt to make useful notes before moving on. I'll waive the checks since a few of your group's members can automatically succeed by taking 10. Moving along!

After taking some time to catch your breath (and probably to heal Blanmieux), you press on through the tunnels, mindful of the limtied time you have here.

It is not long before the tunnels lead you to another chamber. Clouds of steam rise from this balmy chamber’s countless pools, and small, rocky islands abound, separated by cloudy, mineral-laden waters. Each island supports a stone plinth carved with minute glyphs and elaborate pictograms. Sliding across the floors and floating in the pools, thousands of snakes of various species and sizes slither throughout the chamber and bask in its tropical heat.

The very existence of a chamber is itself a noteworthy discovery, but you also suspect that the writings on the stone plinths may contain many secrets about the ways of the serpentfolk.

The plinths are scattered throughout the large cave, whose floor is covered almost entirely by shallow, opaque pools swimming with venomous snakes. You will need to navigate the room to get close enough to decipher the plinths, but doing that while avoiding all the snakes on the floor might prove tricky.

There are five plinths total. You can attempt to leap from one island to another with an Acrobatics check, or instead move through the water slowly and attempt to use Handle Animal, Stealth, or wild empathy to avoid getting bitten by the snakes. Alternatively, because the snakes are below the surface of the water, being able to walk on water or fly will enable you to easily avoid the snakes altogether. (Could it be that a certain intelligent flying creature could actually be useful here?)

Since Twitter can get to the plinths easily, I will also detail the next part of the challenge. If you manage to make it to one of the plinths, you can attempt any of the following checks to attempt to decipher and record the inscriptions:
>Appraise
>Knowledge (history, nature, or religion)
>Linguistics
>Perception

Each PC can attempt a given skill check only once per plinth, but he or she can still use a different skill on the plinth. If you read draconic, you get a +4 circumstance bonus. You need to get 3 successful checks on each plinth to successfully record the inscriptions.

Checks:
Plinth 1 - None
Plinth 2 - None
Plinth 3 - None
Plinth 4 - None
Plinth 5 - None

To clarify, when looking at the Plinths, can I make multiple skill checks per plinth as long as I'm using different skills?

Torrag will use his ring (arcane bond) to cast fly.

If he is allowed to take 10 on a Linguistics check, he gets a 28 (including the +4 for speaking draconic).

Grand Lodge

Border of War map Reign of Winter map

To clarify: you need to collectively make 3 different successful checks at each plinth to 'clear' it. Each PC can attempt a type of check once, and you can certainly take 10, but cannot take 20 or retry.

Torrag flies around the plinths and begins taking preliminary notes.

Hakime attempts to follow Torrag by jumping to the nearest plinth, but does not make it nearly far enough. Her leg dips into the water just momentarily, but in that instant, she feels a sharp pain just above her ankle. She makes it to Plinth 1, and manages to make a few helpful observations about the inscriptions on the plinth, but as she does so, she suddenly finds herself feeling a little woozy.

Hakime nods and waits by the first plinth...

Grand Lodge

Border of War map Reign of Winter map

Hakime quickly sits herself on the floor and squeezes the poison out from the tiny pin-prick wounds. Her natural constitution does the rest, and her dizzy spell soon passes without any lasting effect. Cleared it on the first save. Fortunate, since the later 3 would have failed.

Twitter proves herself quite the scholarly bird as she flies from plinth to plinth, shooting off comments almost quicker than Torrag can write. Fortunately, the dwarf is clever enough to distinguish the insights from the drivel, and by the time the bird has exhausted her breath, he finds his notes significantly enhanced!

Successful Checks:
Plinth 1 - Linguistics, Perception, history (cleared)
Plinth 2 - Linguistics, nature (not cleared)
Plinth 3 - Linguistics, history, perception (cleared)
Plinth 4 - Linguistics, perception (not cleared)
Plinth 5 - Linguistics, nature, perception (cleared)

That was surprisingly quick. 3 out of 5 plinths already cleared, and the last 2 need 1 more check each.

That is actually already enough to clear the challenge.

From the observations and notes made by Torrag and Twitter, you are able to learn enough to provide the Society with many new insights into serpentfolk society and biology. You also discover the ritual importance of these hot springs - by performing a short rite, each of you can transform a vial of the water into a potion of cure moderate wounds! The potion will retain its potency for only 30 minutes, and you can benefit from the water’s healing properties only once per 24 hours, but even so, you have little doubt that this will be of great use to you in your exploration!

That has to be something of a record for clearing a challenge. I have not even reported the success for the combat encounter...

Each of you effectively gains a potion of cure moderate wounds that will last for the next 30 minutes. It will only work on you. I will try to give you an indication when it is close to running out.

Take the time to RP your reaction to your swift and efficient success. I want to give Blanmieux an opportunity to heal before the next encounter.

Hakime is able to use the wand. I will assume she does. 11 charges used from your wand.

Blanmieux, which boon are you using to increase your healing? Your boon from Emerald Spire does not help with healing. How are you getting an extra +1 hp from CLW?

Whilst Hakime tends to Blanmieux's wounds with his wand, you hear a commotion coming from the South. A sibilant voice echoes in your minds in a foreign tongue, but it is undeniably disdainful and hostile. You turn your heads to the south to see two serpentfolk armed with greatswords, though they appear a little more bestial than the one you fought earlier. With them are a trio of lizard-like humanoids armed with javelins and morning stars.

You still have your temporary hit points from Pathfinder Excellence, but it will not stack with your temporary hit points from rage.

The serpentfolk you see appear to be a more degenerate, bestial offshoot. They do not have the magical abilities of their more common cousins, but make up for it by being far more able-bodied. They are accompanied by lizardfolk. All of them appear to be your average degenerate serpentfolk and lizardfolk, which is not to say that they are harmless. Not at all.

Just noticed that I forgot to roll for the will saves against the glitterdust at the end of the previous round. Also, it should be a serpentfolk who has taken 8 damage, not a lizardfolk.

will saves from last round:

will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
will: 1d20 ⇒ 7
will: 1d20 ⇒ 1

None of the blinded reptilian humanoids manage to regain their sight.

Blanmieux runs up to the nearest serpentfolk and sticks a lance into him, but it is not enough to bring him down. Twitter and Hakime follow up with a volley of arrows and acid which all hit, further bloodying the serpentfolk, but still he stands.

Finally, Torrag and Van lay on a barrage of magic.

reflex saves:

ref: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2

The fireball does significant to the clustered reptilian humanoids. The two lizardfolk at the back do not get back up. The grease spell brings down both the reptilians at the front to the ground.

Eager for revenge, the first serpentfolk scrambles to his feet and attempts to move closer to Blanmieux. Blanmieux you can attempt an attack of opportunity as he stands.

Finally, the prone lizardfolk attempts to stand.

He succeeds and moves closer to Blanmieux.

Frustrated by his inability to see, the blinded serpentfolk blinks rapidly to clear the dust from their eyes.

And sure enough his sight returns. He hisses threateningly at Blanmieux.
