Dead Suns:

The grand lodge has been abuzz with excitement for weeks. You dont know what is happening, but it sure has some people worked up. You even saw Kreighton Shaine skip trough a hallway.

Then come the summons: all pathfinder agents currently not on mission, or about to embark on one are to report to the Bloodwatered Meadow, some five miles outside of Absalom.
Bring your best gear.

Together with a lot of other pathfinders, you stream out of the the grounds, trough the city, and onto the plains outside of the walls.

There is a five mile walk ahead of you, so you have plenty of time for introductions. The Special officially starts the 27th, but there is hardly any time for character introductions. So we are starting now.

A strong looking Nagaji of average height stands in the field. He wears a chain shirt but seems to have no weapons on his person. His scales are black with a few faint yellow. "I am called Kaa. Trust in me to be of use to you."

Among many of the responding agents stands a midsized man draped in dark hooded cloak. Beneath the cloak, a glimmer of light shines off a well-made breastplate that slightly protrudes from the cloaks seams. Although most of the man’s face resides deep within the hood of the cloak, a long greying beard drapes from the hoods opening, which reveals the man’s maturity. Clenched tightly in his hand is a masterly crafted dark-wood composite longbow. Although the man appears to be provisioned for travel, he seems somewhat uncomfortable in the rising crowed.

As the reptilian creature announces its willingness to be of service, the man slightly turns and nods respectfully. “I ‘m sure you are more than a formidable ally. Your presence is welcome. Do you have any idea what is on the agenda today?” While the hooded man begins conversing with the reptilian, a small wooden symbol of a winged angel set in front of a blazing sun becomes visible through the separation in his cloak.

”Excuse my rudeness. I am a little distracted with the gathering. I am Aarion Belanor.”

A slender half-elf emerges from the crowd. Like Aarion, he is wearing a breastplate and cloak and carrying a composite longbow. He takes note of the halfling, the nagaji, and the older human. His eyes keep moving, watching the large crowd of Pathfinders all around.
He nods in greeting.
Ranalus. May you walk safely in the darkness... and he glances at the Sarenrite... for even the brightest sun must set when night falls.

I will roll knowledges for the others once they chime in here

Knowledge for Kaa:

Something has been abuzz around the Grand Lodge the past several weeks, keeping many Society scholars and casters busy and away from the public eye.
This follows a recent conflict at the Grand Lodge that the Society kept from spilling into the rest of the city.
Supposedly the Society has reassembled the Sky Key, a dwarven relic it started piecing back together a year ago. The Society has been “secretly” buying up large quantities of sky metal whenever it appears in the market.
The Pathfinders have also been recruiting dozens of arcane spellcasters, especially evokers.
The Grand Lodge has been importing all kinds of experts on Dwarven artifice, which seems reasonable—but also experts on Numerian science, conjurers, mathematicians, and even historians who specialize in Absalom’s earliest history.

knowledge for Aarion:

You analyze some of the markings on the broad field.
The field has been marked out with a series of circles, which are unusual for social gatherings but standard for arcane rituals.
The assemblage of circles suggests a conjuration ritual, but there are enough variations that even this seems unlikely.

knowledge Ranalus:

Locals call this field the Bloodwatered Meadow. Many of the invading armies that tried to conquer Absalom assembled here before being defeated.
One of the most famous conflicts here did not even involve Absalom’s army. The Linnorm King Yardvun Skolson clashed with the Thuvian warlord Attagesha hundreds of years ago as both attempted to besiege the city at the same time but refused to share the glory with eachother. They crippled each other’s forces and were forced to
retreat without ever attacking Absalom.

The sun beats down across this muddy plain, a scant five miles from the walls of Absalom. Fellow Pathfinders gather on all sides, including well-traveled field agents and more permanent staff from the Grand Lodge itself. In the center of the field stands a wooden platform, raised some ten feet off the ground. The excited chatter drowns out the buzz of summer insects as the gathered adventurers speculate on what’s to come.

Walking quickly down the path, almost skipping, is a tiny little gnome with dark purple, almost black hair and pretty standard adventuring gear. Underneath a nice cloak you can make out various wizardly tools, such as a component pouch and scroll case. He is practically shaking with excitement as he makes his way over to the group.

"Hi! My name's Henrikuaxian. Isn't this exciting? I wonder what all the fuss is about. Mind if I walk with you?"

Aarion glances down at the newest arrival, then slowly takes stock of the Halflings inventory.

( I suppose I have seen deadly opponents come in smaller packages before.)

The inquisitor gives the small caster a courteous nod of approval “Welcome aboard caster”.

Still maintaining his focus on Henrikuaxian, Aarion follows up with an arcane question while pointing at the unusual markings on the field. "Have you ever seen markings such as those before?"

The Bloodwatered Meadow. Aptly named, I have heard, for the uncounted lives lost here in battles against the city. Or, as with the Ulfen and the Thuvian, against each other before even attacking Absalom. Pointless. Murderous, vain, fools lusting after glory and the power to command others.

Henrikuaxian looks up at Aarion, seems amused at being sized up by him. He then looks out at the field with the markings that Aarion is pointing towards.

"Those markings are interesting. They are definitely arcane, almost like a conjuration ritual of some sort, though off in some way. Admittedly, conjuration is not my forte, so I could be missing something." Glances over at Ranalus. "The Bloodwatered Meadow? What a fantastically grim name!"

I wonder how much longer we'll have to wait? I hate waiting. Maybe I should mess with the reptilian type over there? He'd look funny with pink scales. Maybe save that for extreme measures. Talk first.

"So, as long as we're waiting, we might as well get acquainted. How long have you all been with the Society?"

Once again Aarion looks down at Henrikuaxian, but seems hesitant to answer the Gnome’s question. After making eye contact with the inquisitor, Henrikuaxian gets the feeling that Aarion is severely conflicted. The inquisitor’s gaze seems focused long past the wizard and into a world that only he can see. After an uncomfortable moment, the inquisitor returns his gaze out over the field.

“How long indeed........ It seems that I have lost track of time. Surly it hasn’t been long, but my path doesn’t require the tracking of time. It is, and will be, until I am no more. Sarenrae has lit my destination, and I shall fallow her lead with no reflection of time. Besides, what’s a moment in time to a long lived race such as yourself?”

(Gnomes and their curiosity.)

Three years now. I work for them intermittently. While I see value in their mission of exploration, some of the murderous vagabonds they employ cast the Society into great disrepute.

At Aarion's response, Henrikuaxian face shows expressions of polite interest, though it becomes incredulous as he finishes. "What is a moment? A moment is EVERYTHING! A moment is new experiences, interesting events, knowledge gained and action taken. Life happens in moments, even for those with a lot of life to live. Besides, who's to say I'll have a long life? Many gnomes don't."

He nods politely to Kaa as he responds. (Weird, he doesn't seem so bad. I wonder why so many people warned me about the lizard men growing up?) "I'm new too! What is it that you do for the Society? You seem strong, but I see no weapons on you."

Turning to look up at Ranalus as he asks his questions about gods, Henrikuaxian replies "Honestly I have no idea. I follow Desna myself, but gnome deities are about as diverse as gnomes themselves. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to find a gnomish worshipper of just about any god you could name, and many you couldn't name too!"

Aarion continues to try and focus on the complex arcane looking symbols.

(Can't concentrate. To much chitter chatter. This damn gnome is going to drive me nuts. Quiet.......Quiet.......QUIET!)

Aarion gives a quick glance back towards Henrikuaxian and smiles at the gnomes conclusion about the value of a moment. As the gnome continues to interact with the rest of the group, Aarion once again tries to divert his attention back to the symbols.

(Hopefully this will be a quick mission. Sarenrae give me strength.)

Henrikuaxian notices Aarion's half-hearted attempt at interaction, and continues to try to engage him in conversation.

"Boy, you're sure staring at those markings a lot. Do you think that will help? Doesn't seem to me that staring at them is going to change anything; we are kinda stuck, at least until they tell us what is going on or someone else comes along who knows more about them."

Henrikuaxian continues to babble on, regardless of whether anybody is paying any attention to him.

If you're still listening:
"That reminds me of the famous gnome wizard Rasmorn Nikas Nesvyn von Natterhorn, one of the dumbest smart gnomes EVER. He sat trying to figure out a puzzle for the longest time; he just stared and stared and stared at it, hoping something would kick in. At least you know that someone will probably announce something soon; he was just working on his own! He stared so long, without doing anything else, that the Bleaching got him younger than it ever does for anybody! Ever since I heard that story, I vowed to never just stare at something; how more dangerous of an activity can you think of than staring? You wouldn't be having any new experiences AT ALL!"

Arriving late to the party by all seeming, a gnome of middling height (for their kind) walks up with relaxed grace. Looking around, Dax finds the height of the others acceptable, especially a fellow gnome. In a tunic over mithril, the small one carries no visible weaponry and only a small backpack with gear, not even much of that. There's a belt with a pouch for material components and a wand in a sheath, but not a lot of what you would generally expect to see on a pathfinder.

Words flow from a soft mouth in similar tones, "Apologies for being late, it is most troublesome to find my way around this area. Bloodwatered, indeed." A hunk of translucent ice floats nearby, interposing itself randomly between Dax and other nearby beings, as if calculating from time to time which might be the greatest threat.

"I am called Dax, and suffice to say it will suit me to continue to be called such." There's not much of an attempt at humor in it, but something ever so slightly off-putting is behind the words, as if Dax were hiding something. Of course it could merely be distraction or preoccupation, as gnomes are wont to be.

Ever the inquisitive types, though I suppose they wouldn't be pathfinders were it not so. Dax does not smile, but the gnome's demeanor seems to lighten.

"Ah, no. I am an elemental caller. I have a wand because betimes I am injured, and do not feel right forcing others to carry my burden." The second question Dax takes a moment longer to regard. Peculiar, I do not recognize that symbol.

"As was my statement moments before, I prefer to keep my scales in balance, neither debt nor indebtedness allow. May fair fortune light your path and warm your halls." A speaker of riddles and questions is Dax, for who ever expected the water to flow only where it is bade? "I trust that we shall all get along well. In keeping to the faith, I have my own healing to offer, but in doing so you must pay a price. All things in balance."

Dax keeps a pace with the others, or at least attempts to. It's hard to keep up when you're occasionally distracted and have shorter legs. "Can you guys believe this? Am I understanding this correctly, that we actually are getting to travel back in time?!? Incredible! Where should we go first? Do you gents have any way of getting to the top, or should we go explore the caves? How fantastic!"

I don't know if we are supposed to wait for GM Woran before doing anything or not, but I'm going to be unavailable for the next several hours, so I wanted to get a post in before I left. I have no easy means of flight, so I'm down with the caves myself, unless you all want to do something else.

Dax stands awestruck at what has just transpired. Traveling into the past? Never mind that they couldn't bring objects back. Witnessing the starstone's fall? Seeing the birth and fall of nations, of empires, of races? Seeing extinct creatures, knowing one's ancestors, the possibilities were endless! It was almost too much.

Quickly checking to see that others were also in a similar daze, the gnome finds Henrik more excited than amazed, a completely reasonable reaction. "I can move through water, but not yet air. I can climb, but have no rope. The caves would seem easier to me, yet I think only to speak for myself again."

Dead Suns:

Around you, you see several groups take to the air, using all kinds of spells as mode of transportation. Characters found a sky key piece get a free airwalk for their party, alas, none of your characters did, but the caves offer plenty of opportunity too.

Those unable to fly, or those that rather remain ground bound, advance towards the caves. (you see an oread vehemently refusing to fly up).

It looks like the cube of time intersects a cave complex. Several entrances are visible. You choose an entrance at random together with several other teams. Inside, the cave splits again, and you choose to go the other way then the other party.
Inside, the air is quite different then out in the field. It is humid, and there is an animal stink in the air. The caves are pitch black, and you quickly make light for those of you who need it.

Needing to go where you can find out the most about the serpentfolk, you follow the smells. After a few minutes, the tunnel you are in widens.
The stink of animal scat and rotting meat fills this massive cavern. Shelves, passageways, and fixtures have been carved into the wall by careful hands, each stylized to resemble a serpent’s head or body.

I have placed you on the map. Here I will also put the url in the campaign description. There is no natural light in this cavern, so those without darkvision are completely reliable on other light sources.

Someone with healing ability should hold my wand, and we should agree on an order." An effort is put forth, and the ice that was idly floating near Dax solidifies and accumulates moisture from the air around it, hardening and becoming an unrelenting barrier. The air near Dax's hands seem to wreathe themselves in cold, and anyone close can feel the temperature dip a little.

Eyes search out the cracks and crevices to ensure that nothing is going to sneak up on the assembled group.

The night restores and heals us all. If you wish, Dax, I will use your wand, and mine, and the powers granted to me by the Count that we may emerge safely.
I can also use my powers to look through doors and thin walls, if need be. Should we enter an area where we think traps likely, I can call on divine insight to find them.

Ranalus does not volunteer to walk in front except when he has Find Traps active, but will check specific areas when requested as he probably has the best Perception. He will prefer to lurk in the back using Stealth if possible, as even his half move is equal to the gnomes' regular move.

”Although I have spent many years in the dark, my eyes have never become as adjusted to it as well as many of the other races of this world. “

Aarion mumbles a small prayer to Sarenrae and then touches the clasp of his belt. Within moments a small light grows and adds to that of Dax’s wayfinder.

“Although I have become more proficient with the bow, I'm not opposed to taking the lead if need be. Just let me know if that is what the group desires.” Aarion shoulders his bow in anticipation to the group’s decision.

“Besides, I have fare less to loose then others here.” Aarion says as he glances over at the two life loving gnomes and then smiles.

Henrik briefly withdraws a wand (mage armor) and uses it on himself with a command word before stowing it away, then holds his own wayfinder aloft and activates his own light.

"As exciting as this is, if it's all the same to you I much prefer a nice cozy spot in the middle. Not that I couldn't handle myself up front, mind you, I just prefer the view from back here."

"This one can be in the front if desired. I can also heal those that need it if also desired." Kaa casts a spell on himself before the party continues. Shield for the next 3 minutes.

He also summons his weapon, a lash in the shape of a sword made of pure ectoplasm is manifested, his hand gripping it tightly.

Dead Suns:

Dax strains his ears, and hears a scratching sound from up ahead in the tunnel.

Dax's ears pick up a scratching sound ahead. "Be warned, there is something coming. I think our scaled friend should take point with me behind, and we keep my brother gnome safe behind me. The rest of you should spread out somewhat."

After which, hopefully those assembled do move out of cluster formation and prepare to engage the (presumably) hostile entity which approaches. "If need be I will engage directly, but I am most effective at range."

Henrik nods along with Dax's suggestions, particularly the part about him staying behind Dax. (Staying safe is good, definitely need to stay safe, not hiding just staying safe.) "That sounds like a good plan to me."

If nothing is imminently upon us, Ranalus will ask Henrikuaxian,
May I bestow a blessing of life and health?

yes:

He lifts his holy symbol and begins an incantation, finishing with a whispered Darkness embrace you.
Henrik now has 1 temporary hit point.

no:

He shrugs, nocks an arrow, and casts Guidance on himself.
