Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |
Let's see if I can do better.
Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28
"No, Ouroboreia, this way," Says the doctor with professional calm.
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |
"We were not looking for prisoners, but other than that technicality, yes."
The doctor beckons the rest of the party as he looks the centaurs over.
Heal: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (15) + 21 = 36
Ouroboreia |
"Actually, Nashota did mention abductees after Dahruun Firehorn's raid. She sent us to deal with the minotaurs, including their leader, and get you back safely. We'll free you at once. What can you tell us about your jailors?"
Diplomacy (improve attitude): 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (6) + 20 = 26
Jaggar Greycloak |
found some weak but free wifi in Kuwait as I wait for my flight
Jaggar slaps Kleetus on the shoulder after the battle ends and then kicks some of the rocks of the rock troll around just in case...
"Does anyone have the keys to the manacles or open it it... if not we can hack away until they break. We should free the lot, more allies."
GM Skipper |
The keys carried by one of the minotaurs unlocks the centaurs.
The centaurs thank you for freeing them.
"I think you have dealt with most of the minotaur cult. Only Dahruun and his fiendish minions remain. He has three horrible allies, emaciated figures looking like horned human skeletons smothered within bone-tight hides of slimy leather."
At Jaggars mention of allies, the centaurs look sheepishly at each other.
"Much as we appreciate you saving us, we're unfortunately in no condition to help you against a beast as powerful as Dahruun Firehorn. We will wait here, and lead you back to the camp when the deed is done."
Ouroboreia |
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (18) + 22 = 40
Ouroboreia ponders the information provided, and is content with commenting with her professoral tone. "The creatures they describe are most likely babau demons. They are resistant to acid, cold and fire and can inflict nastier wounds under the right circumstances. Furthermore, they are coated in a layer of acidic slime, which can cause harm to creatures and weapons striking them. Underneath the slime, their hide is quite tough, but cold iron and good-aligned weapons hurt them normally. Finally, they're immune to electricity and poison, and spells in general have a hard time affecting them. As most other demons, they also have a selection of spell-like abilities, including see invisibility, darkness, dispel magic and greater teleport. They can also attempt to summon additional demons to a fight. Quite nasty creatures, really. Does anyone have means to counter darkness? I have, but I need to know if anyone else can."
Skipper Daytripper |
Skipper has trotted along with the others-- and beams when they are able to free the centaurs.
"Oh I'm so glad we found you! Nashota was worried. Do any of you need any healing?"
Listening to Ouroboreia, he gives some bouncy nods.
"Gosh, I sort of wish I'd saved some of my earlier spells! But yes, I can make very very bright light appear, just like the sun shining on the road at the dawn of a new day. I can also make somebody's weapon good, if they need it! And it probably wouldn't hurt if I prayed for protection from evil for everyone-- but those two prayers won't last too long, just about ten minutes for the weapon and a minute or two for the protection."
He bounces on his toes and looks at the centaurs. "Do you know about how far ahead they might be? Of course I understand if you don't! It would be hard to know much of layout when you're locked up as prisoners."
Ethendril h'Caramore |
Ethendril listens to his knowledgeable companions.
"My weapon is made from solid adamantine. Though it can slice through most things, it sounds like it might not make it through their hide well. I will be much obliged for the light, as well," Ethendril says.
As if remembering something long lost, the old paladin says "Oh...my old sword. It was made of cold iron...I still have it!" he smiles.
I'm probably not the biggest damage dealer if someone else wants the weapon alignment.
Kleetus Doherni |
Kleetus giggles behind his mask in anticipation. "Ah sure love me some demons... Them things make a funny sound when they git slashed through. Ah just wish ah had a star-metal weapon. Every-body got one o' dem. Gonna hafta get that fixed fer sure. Anyways. Whatcha say Jags? We gonna git sum' demon or we gonna git sum' demons right here?!?!"
Deliverance meets The Exorcist. Now a thing.
Ouroboreia |
Preparing for the confrontation at hand, Ouroboreia casts mage armor from her wand, and see Invisibility.
-Posted with Wayfinder
Skipper Daytripper |
"I'll be happy to bless your weapon then, Jaggar!" Skipper says politely. "Once we're closer or violence breaks out, I suppose."
He looks inquisitively towards the freed prisoners to see if they know anything about how far it is to their quarry.
GM Skipper |
The centaurs are a bit banged up and gladly let Skipper tend to their wounds. Nothing major, so no need to actually roll anything.
Unfortunately, they haven't been deeper into the complex, so they can't say how far you need to go.
I'll use Zephyrus' roll from before to navigate the mine.
I'm in the middle of the preparations for my friend's wedding tomorrow, so I'll make a more detailed post on Sunday.
GM Skipper |
Ouroboreia almost gets the party lost in the labyrinthine mine, but Zephyrus catches her mistake in time and leads you to a chamber.
You wander through the mine for one hour. Apply any short term buffs now.
Small piles of rubble cover the floor of this roughly hewn rectangular room. Statues of bull-headed warriors in various states of completion line the east and west walls, while a double row of polished black stone columns form a path down the center of the chamber. At the north end of the room, a massive stone figure with the face of a snarling bull rises from a pit carved into the floor. Flames flicker in the hole, filling the air with the acrid scent of burning grease. The bestial statue clutches an altar at the edge of the pit, posed as though it were trying to wrench the stone pedestal down into the chasm.
On the altar lies a bound and gagged centaur, and in front of it stands a white-furred minotaur. Close to the minotaur are the three fiends you were warned about. All eyes fall on you as you enter the inner sanctum, and violence erupts.

"Oh, um, hi!" Skipper says to the immediate appearance, by magic, right next to him, of one of the babau demons. "That's a nice trick. But I can do it too."
The halfling snaps his fingers and disappears, reappearing in the center of the chamber. He turns the snap of his fingers into a single pointed finger at the bound centaur. "Your journey isn't going to end here, okay?"
Another snap of his fingers, and a glowing shortbow appears in mid-air, twanging out a line of light towards the big white-furred minotaur.

Spiritual weapon, Skipper, actually does a base 1d8 damage regardless of the form it takes (but has the threat range and critical multiplier of the form it takes - best of both worlds!).

After a quick dimensional hop, Skipper commands the centaur to be free, which it promptly becomes and then hides in relative safety behind a pillar. Not done yet, he matches the minotaur's spell (which indeed does 1d8+3 points of damage).

No he didn't. I took the shot before Urso moved - he had to take a 5-foot step, and my shot was clear before that. That's just hard to see in the PbP format.
