DM Khel |
Wow, Feral, you get fastest dot in the west, for sure - I just sent that PM seconds ago!
The scenario is 3-7, and we'll have five, maybe six players. Any thoughts on what folks would like to play?
GMTrex |
Hey!
I've got a mix of characters that could play. I've got an information broker GM baby, a cleric of Sarenrae, and a "cleric" of Aroden available for low tier. For high tier I've got a warpriest of Pharasma and a skald that will hit 6th by the time Gen Con is done.
Dungeon Master S |
Low Tier:
Skald (3)
High Tier:
Unchained Monk (7)
Investigator (6)
Either Way:
Paladin (5)
GMTrex |
Oops, looks like my skald is actually 5. I'll see if I can get her another session before this begins so she's 6.
Sündr-dögünn |
Sundr will be 6 by the time we start. I need to update her stats and spend a whole bunch of gold.
DM Khel |
Okay, my friend who was going to be our sixth won't be available. I'm fine with playing with five, as we've often done in the past. Any issues with that? Or is there a player someone would especially like to invite along?
So far it looks like we have:
Trex: Sündr - Skald 6
Oladon: Zirty - Bard 6?
Red: Rayne - Slayer 6
Feral: cleric 5, paladin 6 or bard 6
DMS: Unchained Monk 7, Investigator 6 or Paladin 5
Looks like we'll be playing high-tier with 5 players, the toughest combo, unless we end up with a sixth.
Sündr-dögünn |
Works for me. I might be able to find someone if there's interest in a sixth.
Sündr-dögünn |
I sent a note over to a friend (other Matt from GenCon, Chris). I'll let you know what I hear back. If not him, I'm sure one of the others from the Slack team would be interested.
Sündr-dögünn |
FYI, I'm going to be throwing around A LOT of buffs via Inspired Rage. I figure we might as well get questions out of the way now. Here's the gist.
When I activate Inpsired Rage (usually my first turn), anyone who can hear me chooses at the beginning of their turn EACH ROUND whether to accept the buff. Then this happens.
If you accept the Inspired Rage as a FREE ACTION at the BEGINNING of your turn:
+2 STR
+2 CON (+1 HP/lvl)
+2 Will saves
-1 AC
Cannot use Dex-, Int-, or Cha-based skills (except Acro, Fly, Intimidate, Ride)
Cannot use abilities that require patience or concentration
Gain Scent ability
Gain Reckless Rage (may choose to take additional -2 AC, gain +2 attack)
Gain 1d6 ENERGY damage (I will specify type) on all melee attacks for one round (usable once per rage)
No fatigue generated afterward, can choose to cycle in and out round by round
DM Khel |
Gang - I'll be travelling Aug 20-25, not sure how much time I'll have to post. If you find a sixth player, have them post here, and I'll get us started next weekend.
Sündr-dögünn |
Found us a sixth. He should be posting shortly.
DM Khel |
Cool, who is it?
I only got the scenario for this from Paizo last night. I should still be able to get us launched on time, but I might be a bit slow off the mark as we get started.
DM Khel |
Howdy, Badger, welcome aboard!
It looks like you might be new to Play-by-Post, at least on the Paizo boards, so I thought I'd point you towards a couple of useful things:
- below the box where you type your posts, there's a spoiler that says "How to format your text." If you click on that, it'll show you how to differentiate things like "Saying something loudly" and Thinking quiet thoughts or saying something out of the game context, like what the saving throw is for the spell you just cast.
- if you want to dig a little deeper, here are a couple of useful links:
Doomed Hero's Guide to Play by Post Gaming
And if you already know all this, and I've inferred too much based on your single post, sorry about that. I do find it's easier to get what people are doing, saying, thinking, etc, when the formats are used, which means the flow of the game is that much more fun.
Finally, can I ask you to post a full character sheet under your alias for Badger? It can look like the ones right above your post, for Sundr or Senzo, or you can just use the Hero Lab format, like this.
DM Khel |
Feral - who will you be playing? I'm starting to work on maps and such, and need to download a token for you, or I'll have to use this.
DM Khel |
Thanks! I am new to this play by post thing. So thanks for all the extra info.
My pleasure, glad you'll be joining us. You're signing on with a very experienced (but friendly!) PbP crew, so feel free to ask any questions about how things work in this format. And feel free to roleplay lots! One of the real virtues of this medium is there's really time to convey a character's thoughts, fears, crazy ideas, whatever, in a way you can't always do at the table, as well as giving colorful descriptions of actions rather than 'I hit him with my sword.'
DM Khel |
Okay, Feral, thanks. Just want to verify one crucial item about Truk: 'Lefty' is what he calls his right hand, yeah?
Sündr-dögünn |
FYI folks, I'm traveling over the next three days. I expect to have internet access at some points, so I should be able to keep up regular posting. In the event I don't, that'd be the reason why.
*Badger |
Still working out the kinks on this posting in different colours thing. Quick question: I figured out how to roll while typing. Do you guys post it and see what you rolled and then edit the post? Otherwise, how do you know what you rolled? And, if you edit the post, does it re-roll?
GMTrex |
Sure! You can use the Preview button to see what you rolled if you need to. You can also edit your post up to an hour afterward.
DM Khel |
It does not re-roll if you preview or edit, so your results will be the same. One other PbP dice rolling convention, in my experience, is if you're asked to make a saving throw, it should be the first roll you make in your next post, since you can see the results and, by altering the order of rolls, affect the outcome.
Also, many PbP GMs will roll Initiative and Perception for the party, in order to speed things up. This eliminates waiting for everyone to check in and roll just to see who goes first in combat or if anyone has spotted the whatsit that is sneaking up to backstab the spellcaster at the back of the party.
Also, Badger, I still need you to put your character sheet in your alias. Let me know if you need help figuring that out.
DM Khel |
That's exactly right, Badger, thanks.
Hero Lab even has a format designed for posting on a message board like this, so you get a nice, clear layout, if you want to use it.
If you go to "Output Hero Statblock" and then select the tab that says "BBB Code" (I think, doing this from memory), you can copy that text and paste it in. And if you want to leave it the way it is, that's fine too.
Sündr-dögünn |
Are we five or six? I only count five players but thought we talked about a sixth.
DM Khel |
I believe we're going to be six - I pestered Oladon today about getting a post up. She hadn't posted in gameplay, so she wasn't getting any notification of new posts.
If we turn out to only be five, we'll make that work just fine - but Zirt's a fun addition to a party.
DM Khel |
Hey gang - I'll be pretty much incommunicado tomorrow, might get a post up in the evening.
DM Khel |
Solely for purposes of slowing down this combat as we get started, I'll be at a local con all day tomorrow and very unlikely to have time to post. But I'll be around today, so let's do some portal hopping and fey-fightin'!
Sündr-dögünn |
We actually have 1.5 bards, whose bonuses stack. It's probably best to wait for us most of the time.
Zirt Fzerkinkratzcher |
Hey guys, heading out camping with the bears shortly... be back on Monday or Tuesday. Feel free to bot me in the meantime. DM, kindly refrain from kilting me. Or my dog, grizzly bear, or wolverine.
