Venture-Captain Alissa Moldreserva, a fiery red-headed woman who climbed from the depths of Galtan revolution to become one of the Society’s finest (and most well-connected) venture-captains, enters into the great meeting hall of the Grand Lodge in Absalom. She stares down her hawkish nose and sighs.

“I ask for the best and they send me you. Lucky me. The Society’s best contact in Osirion, Grand Ambassador Dremdhet Salhar, informed me this morning that his lovely Chelish wife, the Lady Anilah Salhar, was kidnapped and sold into slavery."

“Normally, I wouldn’t care a bulette’s eyeball about who was or was not enslaved in Absalom, but Salhar is the Society’s best avenue for acquiring all of the necessary official paperwork to make our frequent delves into the tombs of Osirion cheap and legal. This is a relationship we want to preserve and since the Ambassador made it clear that our status is in jeopardy, I’ve been instructed to send our best agents to find her and return her safely to Salhar."

“I guess you’ll do."

“Salhar hasn’t sat idle since his wife was taken his own agents are prowling the streets and dug up one possible lead. A one-eyed Andoren, a grit junky named Fredrik, is known for selling or helping to sell nobility into foreign markets that desire house slaves. Being enormously illegal, this trade makes Fredrik a fair bit of coin that Salhar’s agents assure me all go straight into the pockets of the Second Chance, a grit den dockside in Puddles. That’s all I have to get you started. Go quickly. The fate of our Osirian exploits is in your hands.”

A blond elf sits in the great meeting hall waiting for an assignment. She's dressed in simple clothing in dark colors, almost mourning colors. Black, navy blue, and dark green make up the color pallet. She is clearly a magic user, but carries no spellbook. Shalendra is upset Helfia, her familiar, wasn't allowed in the building. She was relegated to the aviary.

She stands when the Venture-Captain enters. She's a tall woman. "I'm sorry that you feel our skills aren't sufficient. I will try my best to avoid disappointing the Lodge."

"Well, I don't know about best, but the Paracountess doesn't send someone unless they're at least suited for the job." The man speaking is a tall Chelaxian with a rich blue cloak. He has light armor on and a pair of short curves knives sit at his hip. You also see a folded net and a pair of manacles hung on his belt.

"And in this instance, I doubt there's much better suited for this than me. I used to work for some of these slavers, tracking down runaways." He glances over to the others. "Oh, don't make a face, it was good work and put food on my table. Plus, there are far more distasteful things in this world than finding a runaway. Now, nobility slaves are a high-priced thing. Never run into one before, but I hear rumors."

He draws one of his kukri, checking the edge. "If this Fredrik is like any of the other lowlife slavers I dealt with in the past, I know just how to get his attention."

It looks like we're just waiting for a check in from Rodarte. If he doesn't make an appearance by this evening would you guys like to move on with four or try to get a replacement elsewhere?

Aiden has one. He'll gladly let Shalendra use it. He's got a decent UMD, but it's not automatic yet.

It looks like Caps checked it but is remaining silent. Typical stoic dwarf. =P

With their mission clear the party departs for the run-down tavern turned-grit-den located dockside in Puddles.

Dimly lit by cheap oil lamps sputtering on walls punctuated by painted-over windows, the Second Chance reeks of unwashed humanity and pungent ash. Threads of sickly sweet smoke drift like smog from tin hookahs. Ale kegs lurk in each corner, and cheap clay mugs hang from nails on the walls.

It seems the party's arrived in the midst of a frenzied brawl. Next to the bar a thickly built scowling Keleshite man, grips a bloody scimitar in one fist, blocking one of the den’s rear doors. At his feet lies a fresh corpse, blood slowly seeping into the floor boards from the dead man’s wounds. Other bodies litter floor, their condition less clear.

A man bearing Fredrik's description - a skinny one-eyed retch in tattered clothing - perches atop a wobbling table at the center of the room, frantically kicking at several drugged-out thugs who try to pull him off.

We're going straight into initiative.

Uh, Aiden, you're not finished with Tyranius's Tide of Morning yet...

Guntir is, like Hark, a tanky front-line fighter. He has DR/1, a high AC, and likes his reach weapon.

Guntir, a supremely dour balding dwarf, clearly disappointed not to have an ale to murmur into, ceases his incessant deep-pitched muttering as the party leaves the Venture Captain's presence. "We'll make do with the slavers, aye."

--

Guntir takes in the room and makes a sort of grunting, snorting sound before running at the nearest druggie. He pulls out his longhammer as his short legs pound across the tavern floor, but he doesn't use it--instead, he slams his chest into the thug to try to knock him out of the way.

the idea is to make his way to where he can get at the killer in the back and knock some of the druggies over in the process. Guntir wants to run as far as he can, up to the point of being in the same column of the map as the killer. I think that involves a CMB roll to bull rush, but maybe its actually an overrun or something. Regardless:

CMB, charge: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 = 9
LAME. SAUCE. That was such an epic move. It deserved a better die roll.

Guntir gets a good head of steam going but loses his footing on a puddle of spilled swill and fails to barrel his way past one of the brawlers.

The fight rages on. Three of the drug-addled fools turn their attention toward the party.

Punch vs Guntir: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Punch vs Guntir: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

Guntir just grunts as he takes a fist to the jaw. He retaliates with a quick counter-smack from his cestus at the first one to have attacked him, hopefully the one on his left. Then he delivers another blow with the same cestus to try to clear his way and moves towards the scimitar bearer. "Come here, troublemaker." He challenges the man.
