Sovereign Court

Gudrun takes a swing from the ground, but barely avoids chopping his own leg off.

Ajah steps forward, and aids Erevan's attack.

Erevan takes a swing at the remaining construct, cracking it almost in half, with a only a few fibrous, woody strands holding it together... However, this does not appear to have been quite enough to render in inanimate.

Dr Strang channels divine energy once again, healing the party one final time.

The final doll gamely tries to finish-off Gudrun...

Combat over.

Searching the room turns up the following:

On the racks:

MW Khopesh, MW Spear, Composite Shortbow (needing a new string), two light wooden shields, a (magical) light steel shield emblazoned with a scarab.

In some chests:

100gp, 42sp, several scroll tubes holding papyrus records, private memos, expense ledgers, speeches, and private correspondence.

In a clay urn:

75gp of an oily perfume called nard.

You have cleared the tomb - feel free to return to town for the night, make any purchases that you wish to, and prepare for the *next* dungeon :-)

Silver Crusade

Strang picks up one of the destroyed dolls once the fray has finally died down, examining it "Not a typical tomb guardian." He adds with a shrug.

Spellcraft to ID the shield: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

He makes sure all the doors are closed as they leave, and will ask for assistance removing the dead explorer with the broken legs as they go.

"This tomb was not his," He will say, by way of explanation. "Akhentepi will probably rest easier without this one's company. He's long past due for a burial of his own."

Is the next tomb going to be 'tomorrow'? or 'a couple of days'? Reason being Gudrun will still be slightly injured if its the very next day, so if we can take a day in between, that'd be good

Also, will the brand on Gudrun and Ajah's foreheads fade any time soon?

What sort of 'town' is available here? (matters for what can be purchased, not that we have that much to buy with I suppose) And how much of what we've recovered can be used to make new purchases?

For his part, Strang would like to get a new sunrod, to replace the one they used

Sovereign Court

Dr Strang identifies the shield as a Scarab Shield.

Well, shoe-horning the adaptable portion of the AP the way we are, technically, it is one site per day... basically, your contract enables you to access each site for one day, on consecutive days.

The brands on Gudrun and Ajah's foreheads will still be there tomorrow.

Wati is a small city, with a base purchase limit of 5,200gp... so pretty much anything that you have the gold for can be purchased. Of the equipment recovered, you can sell whatever you like - just please record any purchases made, as they will show up on the chronicle sheet at the end.

Hey, nice shield. Would have been helpful if we'd found it earlier =)

And don't forget additional damage types guys... clubs are free! =)

Silver Crusade

LN Cleric 3/Wizard 1/Mystic Theurge 10

For reference sake. A list of items we found up to current, in case anyone wishes to make use of them (noted a name if someone specifically mentioned taking possession of something. Let me know if I missed something)

  • metal pitons and hammer
  • alchemist's fire x 2 (one used by Manius on roach swarm, Gudrun took the other)
  • silversheen x 2
  • masterwork longbow
  • cold iron arrow x 10 (Ajah)
  • masterwork padded armor
  • potion of lesser restoration (Strang)
  • potion of darkvision x 2 (Erevan has one)
  • potion of cure light wounds x 2
  • masterwork khopesh
  • masterwork spear
  • composite shortbow --> Do we know what strength rating its made for?
  • scarab shield

Given this is the same 'scenario' we can still freely use all of this stuff. So drop a healing potion into a couple of folks pockets at least. The shield is a free heal once a day, so can hand it off to someone as needed for that.

Sovereign Court

@ Dr Strang: If you use the shield today, it can be used again tomorrow.

The shortbow is *just* a composite shortbow - no strength rating (so the only difference to a standard bow is that the range is slightly further).

Sovereign Court

Alright, then!

Having rested for the night in the living section of Wati, the party, feeling somewhat refreshed, heads for the second ruin that has been assigned to them...

Sandstone walls ten feet high enclose this estate, affording those who once lived inside some privacy. A two-story stone house is visible beyond the walls, adjoining the rear wall of the property. In the center of the estate's southern wall stands a pair of tarnished bronze gates hanging partially open. A pair of statues (depicting two men with a regal bearing and dressed in loose, short robes and traditional Osirian head cloths) flanks the gate. Dusty hieroglyphs are carved into the wall at eye level to the left of the gate.

Ancient Osiriani:
The hieroglyphs read "House of Pentheru".

Perception DC 10 and Ancient Osiriani:
Small hieroglyphs on the statues' bases that identify the figures as Pentheru the Elder and Pentheru the Younger.

"Well," Strang says, observing the site of their next exploration with the usual interest, "Would appear not all of our assigned locations are to be crypts."

He frowns slightly for a moment, before adding. "At least not officially. Given how this city ended, this too could have ended up the resting place of any number of people."

As they walk around the perimeter, he talks casually about the architecture and domestic observances of the time, before stopping near the front gate to examine the hieroglyphs.

"Would seem this is the home of the Pentharu family." He indicates each of the statues in turn. "The patriarch, and his first born, depicted there."

"At least we won't have to clamber over the wall." He adds with slight relief at the site of the partially open gate.

The party slides through the gate into the courtyard beyond.

Dust and sand cover the ground of this small courtyard. To the east and west stand pairs of columns, once brightly painted and now bleached from the sun, which support stone archways leading to other section of the property. Tarnished bronze gates hang open under both arches. To the north, a small flight of steps leads up to a pair of ornate doors in the south wall of the house between another set of columns.

Group 1:

Manius chases after Ajah, but as he is unencumbered by scale mail, he rapidly outpaces Manius.

A spacious yard fills the compound east of the house. To the east, several small stone outbuildings have been built right into the compound's outer wall. A well stands between two of these outbuildings, opposite a stone table and benches that sit in the shadow of the house. To the west, two sets of steps, both flanked by columns, lead up to doors into the main house. To the northwest, an open doorway leads into an extension of the house, next to a small structure with a domed roof.

As Ajah charges past the stone table, there is a angry hissing noise, and a dog-sized snake uncoils from beneath it.

Group 2:

Dr Strang and Gudrun manage to keep pace with Erevan, but are unable to calm him down.

The western side of the estate forms an L-shaped yard mostly given to sand, sun-dried earth, and the ancient husks of dead trees. Stone benches line the walls of the yard, and a large tiled pool sits in the southwest corner, dried and partially filled with sand. A short flight of steps leads between a pair of pillars to a set of stone doors in the west side of the house. At the north end of the yard stands a squat stone building with columns at every corner. At this point, Erevan comes to his senses, much to the relief of his allies, but this is relief is tempered by the fact that all concerned them hear the sound of hundreds of feet scrabbling on stone, as a centipede the size of an elephant rises up from the dry pool, and clicks its mandibles hungrily!

Egads, you have 4 20's in that post!

Are we sure this is a level 1 module? A huge size mind-affecting immune creature with two attacks after a fear 'trap' seems like overkill =)

anyway...

Knowledge (religion) on whatever feared us: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23 (I suspect a haunt)

The appearance of the huge insect, on the heals of the fear effect near the front gate, has Strang reeling for a bit, so his reactions are slow.

Knowledge (nature) on the centipede: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

"A beast that size... Sepa himself infuses this creature!" He exclaims, fearfully.

"It might be too much, even for us, without the others!" He adds, taking a step away.

Not sure what else he can do to help, he fumbles a tindertwig out of his bandolier, and then taking a deep breath and bracing himself, he clumsily throws his dagger at the creature, aiming high for a clearer shot.

Aiming high to avoid the firing into melee penalty... Should be 15' vertical space as well as horizontal, yes?

Dagger throw: Ranged Attack, 2nd increment: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15, for 1d4 ⇒ 2 damage

Note: I realize this might provoke an AOO from its tail (This presumes the knowledge roll and general observation will note the extended reach)... this is ok, as then Gudrun can stand up safely and shift into flanking on his turn hopefully. Taking one for the team!

Am assuming a tindertwig flame will be enough for pyrotechnics. Decent chance to blind the thing, but sadly will probably blind everyone else too... but might be the best of bad options soon.
