Lucas is ready to align his targeting systems again when control of the missile launcher is diverted to another station. "Hey, who was that?" he shouts. " I was just getting the hang of that!" He instead calls up the controls for the forward coilgun, charging it quickly before opening fire at the opportune moment.

Hirix brings the Drake in tight around the cluster of asteroids, following on the tail of the Honorbound. As she approaches the other ship, she turns the nose of the Drake right up against the enemy's starboard side!

Don't have map access to make changes until this evening, but the desired move is (using cardinal directions): NE, E, E, SE, SW, SE. This should leave the Drake pointed directly at the Honorbound, one hex to its NW.

With that gunnery and damage roll, there is no doubt the coilgun shot penetrates the Honorbound's shields and inflicts a second critical threshold damage to the Honorbound so I'm going to skip over the starship combat phase descriptions this round and jump to the conclusion...

The coilgun shot triggers several visible chain explosions on the Honorbound prompting Captain Yuluzak to hail your ship. "It has become obvious that you have won this hard-fought duel and I respectfully surrender. Congratulations my friends!! I formally relinquish all claims on the distress beacon and we will now pull away to affect some repairs. But before we depart, to symbolize my respect for your honor, I have a gift." Sensors show that the Honorbound ejected a cargo pod.

Yuluzak continues, "May you find those items to be useful in battles ahead. Farewell!!" And right before the image of him blinks out from your viewscreen, Yuluzak and his bridge crew break out into a vesk battle song. It appears they are celebrating having engaged in honorable combat regardless of the fact that they've lost.

After scanning the cargo pod for explosives or other dangers, you bring it aboard and finding it completely safe, you open it up. Within you find a set of golemforged plating II armor and a squad machine gun.

You spend some time scanning the nearby asteroids and soon find the distress beacon lodged in a hunk of rock. It takes about 30 minutes to decrypt the encoded message during which you spend time extracting several precious minerals from nearby magma asteroids worth 900 credits. Once decrypted, you review the recording...

Handout #1 in the slides is now unmasked

EDIT: In addition, the decrypted message contains coordinates allowing you to travel to the Struggle's Scholar's location in the Material Plane

"That vesk, what a screwball! We pop his rig full of holes and he's feeling swell." A burst of mental laughter crosses to the rest of the crew.

Hirix releases the ship's controls, pops out a cigarette and lights up. "We got our prize fair and square, and we aren't even a flaming wreck. I think we can call this a success"

--------

Once the distress beacon is decoded she immediately starts punching in the included coordinates. "Maybe we got a chance still to fish these lugs out of a tight spot. Even if we don't, we've got to keep that info out of anyone else's mitts. Ready?"

She starts warming the engines up, and if there's no other discussion, she sends the ship to the Struggle's Scholar.

I'll advance us to the next scene but if anyone wants to say or do anything retroactively before what happens next, just say so!

Using the beacon's coordinates and instructions to drop out of the Drift, you find yourselves a few hundred yards from the Struggle's Scholar!!! It is a heavily damaged kasathan transport ship floating in empty space, dark but for a slowly flashing orange light at its aft...

Just a few miles away from the ship, a massive storm dwarfs the vessel, blue and gray etheric clouds warping the field of stars behind the ship and flashing internally with jagged streaks of light. For all its violence, the vast storm is silent, and it looms larger with each passing second. It is clear to you that the menacing storm will overtake the Struggle's Scholar long before you have a chance to restore the vessel or to even tow it out of harm's way.

DC 15 Mysticism:
You recognize the the stellar event as an etheric storm, an uncommon event where the barrier between the Ethereal and Material Planes is thinnest.

You can access the Struggle's Scholar airlock either by directly attaching the Drake to it or by space walking there.

Anyone mind if I wear the golemforged plate II? Not sure anyone else is proficient with heavy armour.

You have no problem maneuvering the Drake right up to the Struggle's Scholar airlock, which is located in the aft-most portion of the ship. The doors are currently open and exposed the the vacuum of space. Once positioned, you have no problem walking from the Drake straight into the Struggle's Scholar's airlock chamber.

This entire chamber is one large airlock, with access doors to the fore and aft. Loose netting floats in the gravity-free chamber. A warning light above the interior door flashes every few seconds, periodically bathing the room in a dim orange glow. A small panel next to the door flashes orange in time with the warning light.

The panels contain standard controls for closing the aft airlock door that you just entered through and opening the fore doors toward the ship's interior.

New map revealed!

Edit: Note that on this map, fore is to the right, aft is to the left, port is up, and starboard is down.

Lucas steps cautiously through the open airlock, pistol drawn and battleglove readied, trusting in his new armour to protect him from anything that might be lurking in wait. Hirix follows after Lucas, drawing her laser pistol. The flashing warning lights worry her less than Lucas, instead her analytical brain immediately starts trying to puzzle out why the airlock was already open.

'Did they eject something into space and then not close the airlock?'

She inspects their surrounds for signs of damage to the interior of the chamber, and also thinks about what the specific warning pattern means for kasathan-origin vessels.

Hirix and Kali both realize that the orange light that eerily flashes intermittently is probably a warning indicator that the external airlock doors are open and exposed to the vacuum of space while the interior of the ship is pressurized.

Kali, the only other thing you notice in this airlock are the large crates over to the starboard side of the room.

Going to bot Twik, using him to move the scene along

Twik looks at the panel controls and says, "Well, let's see if this airlock room can still pressurize to get us access to the rest of the ship without having to de-pressurizing the entire ship." Then Twik hits the button to close the aft airlock doors.

Starship Actions ; Live Exploration Extreme!

Once Twik hits the button, the aft airlock doors close and lock (which it does silently because there is no sound in a vacuum). The entire room begins to pressurize automatically while you feel the artificial gravity kicking in gradually. As air fills the room, a blaring alarm can be heard, timed with the orange warning light. After about 30 seconds, with the room now fully pressurized and the gravity at normal, the alarm and light both stop.

Twik says, "Guess that wasn't so bad, now was it?" Twik then hits the other button on the panel to open the interior-facing doors in the fore section of the room.

Starship Actions ; Live Exploration Extreme!

The interior doors slide open and as they do, you all hear, "YYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" emanating from inside the ship! It is a loud, horrifying screech that echoes around for a moment before it fades away. The hairs on the back of your neck stand at attention and you get goosebumps all over your body.

Although life support and gravity appear to be working, it is obvious that the ship is having power issues because only low-power emergency lighting is operational and even those emergency lights are ominously flickering off and on at random.

Imagine the corridor lighting conditions to be something like this (starting at 4:52). Mechanically, you're in dim light where everything gets concealment (20% miss chance). However, low light or darkvision (or some kind of magical/technological equivalent) will negate this.

Looking through the now-open fore airlock doors, you see a gruesome trail of blood running across the floor of the ten-foot wide hallway that runs horizontally across the ship; at each end of this hall are metal access doors leading to the fore and aft. A shorter hall directly in front of you leads to a door to the fore, with two doors halfway up that hall exiting to port and starboard. A double-barreled weapon turret limply hangs from the ceiling, just port of the open airlock door you are currently standing at.

More of the map has been revealed. Who wants to enter first?? MUAHAHAHAH!!!

Hirix eyes the revealed corridor warily. "Worse than I thought. We got ourselves a right horror show." Before proceeding, she thinks to the scream she just heard and tries to recall if she knows what kind of creature could have produced it.

She also carefully inspects the gun placement. Even with diminished power, the automated defenses could still be active after all.

Assuming everything is in order, Hirix peers up and down the length of the long hall. She reaches for a cigarette before she realizes that she's going to have to wait until she can disengage the environmental seals on her armor. Instead she merely spins her laser pistol to keep her hands busy.

"Something dragged one of the crew an awful long distance. I can't tell why yet, but it stinks of something smart. Might still be around."

Starship Actions ; Live Exploration Extreme!

Although your knowledge of creatures is near encyclopedic, any manner of creature could have made that screech so you're unable to narrow it down.

Hirix discovers that the projectile turret is out of ammo and harmless but easily disengages the turret's firing mechanism anyways.

As you do so, you notice a hidden ceiling panel equidistant to the starboard side containing yet another projectile turret! This one is powered and contains live rounds but is currently inactive.

Ketch takes a look at the starboard side turret, easily locates the tracking sensor and pulls it out. You can now safely walk around without this turret having any chance of detecting you. Once done, Ketch blends back into the shadows...

You may now proceed on to wherever you wish to explore next. Using the rule of two, once two people agree to go a certain direction, I will assume everyone goes that way.

Also, unless anyone objects or states otherwise, I would assume the group more or less stays in formation. So once the party has moved in a certain direction, I'd suggest moving all your fellow player's tokens in that direction using the standard formation already laid out in the slides.

Lucas listens to the robot's greeting before turning to the others. "Nope, no idea what that meant," he says, keeping a wary eye on the robot given that the floor is coated in blood.

Hirix unintentionally broadcasts a mental -snerk- at Lucas' comment. And while she's tempted to respond with some banter, the presence of the robot and absence of a body seem more critical to resolve.

Hanging at the entrance to the room, she casts a long look around to analyze the 'crime scene' and determine what may have happened here to cause so much blood to be caked along the floor. She also inspects the robot to try to evaluate what role it may have played.

She offers a mental "No bodies and no ship's logs here, and I don't fancy tangling with that robot. How about we skip this joint and look somewhere else?"

As you watch and discuss, the robot repeats the same phrase again a couple more times then shuts down. When it does, a set of running lights on its torso blinks on, pointing to a panel on its back.

For Hirix:
Scanning around the room with your trained eyes, you notice a holoprojector mounted onto the ceiling but with a carbonedge shuriken lodged in it. You believe someone with computer knowledge or engineering skills can patch it up a bit.

@bigboom: I assume that means Hirix wasn't able to get a sense for what might've happened here?

Hirix is about to leave when a broken holoprojector in the ceiling catches her eye. "Only sign of a struggle here is that hunk of metal up there." she points at a shuriken lodged in the holoprojector. "Maybe there's some evidence..."

She steps in, reaching or jumping up to dislodge the shuriken and look at it more closely. She also mentions "The holoprojector might've recorded the tussle that happened here. Think you can patch it up Ketch?"

@Hirix: No additional insights...yet.

I can try, as his little nose keeps moving, as if there’s perpetually a bug on it.
