Celeb Naurdring |
Celeb stays near to the side of the cavern entrance. Silently berating himself for not stopping his blue-haired ally from announcing their presence. He keeps watch on the stalactites above, reasoning they could provide cover for unseen threats, and watches the centipedes below, wondering if they are poisonous.

"They live underwater, maybe Aquan..." the gnome mutters to himself when no one answers him.
"Hey... What's he doing?" he asks when Niles moves forward to meditate with the gillman. "I thought he was the smart one!"
GM Bardez |
The gillman starts at indifferent toward the group. The DC to influence his attitute starts at 20. I will ignore the result of Niles' Diplomacy roll for the time being, unless he really wants the result to occur as part of RP flavor. Otherwise, the gillman responds, and the group has an educated guess about his disposition toward you.
The gillman watches Niles intently, asking Niles in slightly off-common to repeat himself after a few moments, with eyes glues not to the face, but to the chin, the gillman replies: "I see. Forgive my reaction, as I've long had difficulty hearing. If you will excuse me, I have little interest in visiting." The gillman goes about his business in the pool, occasionally submerging himself and then coming back above water.
Nikolai Thales |
"A spa... Right." the gnome shrugs. "While they do spa things, tell me more about this cave flappy! he insists as he pulls the cloak out of his pack and thrusts it into Garret's face. "Do they always look like this?"
After Niles gets the gillman's attention, Nikolai realizes something important. "Ohh, he's deaf. Does anyone know Absalom Sign Language?"
Ob the hydromancer |
Ob writes in his journal.
Lone gilman found so far in caves. He appears to be less interested with the ancient reliefs and instead much more interested in a pool of water. Inside the pool are offerings of ancient coins, stones, and loops of string. There is a miniature city carved in the center of the pool. The gilman is deep in meditation and refusing the to speak with us further.
Ob says " Well, i suppose if he wants to be left alone, we should respect his wishes and further explore the caves. "
GM Bardez |
As Celeb looks over the room, no evil auras appear. The trinkets are benign.
There are caves systems to the east and to the west.
The diorama of the city is dead center within the pool. Morād studies the model for a time, attempting to identify it, but pangs of addiction distract his thoughts and he is unable to determine whether there is any meaning to the city itself. As Morād looks over the model, the gillman watches him with a vague look of amusement upon his face.
There are balls of malleable clay scattered along the model's exterior. One of the tiny plots within the model city contains a bed of sand with a tiny cart plow pulled by wooden oxen; the sand is smoothed flat. There is a small scale located in the center of the model city, near what appears to be an open bay; filled with coppers and silver coins, the scale is slightly off balance. Finally, there are several shiny baubles that appear to be of slight value (perhaps around 10 gp or more).
Garret Sommers |
"Hey, that's like the carvings in the passageway. Maybe the gillman is doing a ritual with them." Garret looks around, then heads east. While they should probably talk to the gillman at some point, making sure the cave is safe-ish is equally important.
Nikolai Thales |
Nikolai looks genuinely hurt when Garret ignores his question. "So much for Cooperate." he mutters as he returns the cloak to his pack. "I'll bet you don't even know about cave flappys anyway..."
The gnome approaches the pool, intent on respectfully giving the gillman plenty of space. Instead, his excitement gets the better of him when he sees the diorama. "Oh wow! he shouts, before asking the rest of the party, including the gillman, "Do you know what this means!?"
Attempting to identify the city and any other information about the trinkets.

"I'll have you know I'm wearing cave flappy boots right now. I hesitate to tell you more about them, you might think yourself qualified to hunt them. They may look innocuous but cave flappys are more deadly than the dreaded cave giraffe."
Celeb Naurdring |
Reasoning that since the others had interrupted the gilman's solitude, Celeb decides now will be as good a time as any to talk with him. As the others head east, Celeb hangs back.
He approaches calmly and waits until the man looks his way before speaking slowly in common. "Greetings, please excuse my friends. They can be a bit hasty, but they mean well. I apologize for them, and myself, for interrupting your time here. My friends and I are recording the layout of the cave and the surrounding area and I find the detail in this model fascinating. I wonder if you would be willing to spend a few moments to discuss it's specifics when you are finished here?".
GM Bardez |
The gillman reiterates his disinterest in visitors, and continues his meditations, while observing the group.
To the east, the cave's damp air becomes increasingly stale as the Pathfinders continue down through the tunnel. The stench of decay grows increasingly evident. The passage turns to the east and opens into a small
cavern littered with bits of broken glass, rotting pieces of paper, and other unusable detritus. A body lies face down toward the back of the cavern.
Three animated, necrotic bodies can be seen surrounding the fallen corpse.

I will...ready an action to attack a skeleton if one comes into view.
Garret picks up a fist-sized rock to engage the skeletons if they come for hugs.

Blunt damage: 1d6 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 4 = 8
Celeb Naurdring |
Celeb's good where he's at. Don't like the close quarters for launching arrows, but we'll see how this plays out.
As they march deeper in the cave and the air becomes stagnant, Celeb longs for a good fresh breeze and the rustle of leaves overhead. He stifles a cough as the scent of decay increases.
As they are out of view, I'm guessing Celeb is not aware of the undead ahead.
Seeing that Garret levitates a rock, Celeb assumes a threat is at hand and prepares to fire if a target presents itself.
Nikolai Thales |
Nikolai follows the others, his thoughts preoccupied with the diorama. He knew he was missing something, but couldn't pin it down.
"Ugh!" he wrinkles his nose as the stench grows. "Smells like something died. Let's hope its not still moving!"
Nikolai delays until he has a clear shot, or when someone less squishy engages the southern zombie, so he can get by.
GM Bardez |
With the sound of undead creatures in the nearby tunnel, Garret prepares his kinetic blast. Suddenly, the animated creature comes into view, and Garret looses the blast, hitting the beast squarely in the face, though the beast seems unfazed by the blast.
(I believe that the following is correct about the Spiritualist's manifested phantom, but if incorrect, the following will apply to Garret instead.)
The creature closes on the manifested spirit of Torag's Fist, and makes a lunging slam attack.
#3's slam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 (hit)
Slam damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Following this, Niles loads a bolt into his crossbow. (Would that not be a shot against the visible undead?)
Additional movement can be heard within the cave (#2 to H4).
Nikolai delays until there is a clear attack.
More movement can be heard within the cave (#1 to H6).
I'm not certain whether or not Torag's Fist applies as "less squishy", but I'll await Nikolai's action post to see what he wants.
Nikolai Thales |
There's nowhere for Nikolai to go, he will continue to delay.
"Let's use the choke point to our advantage!" the gnome shouts to his allies. "Garrett, pull back! Dolgrin, have Torag's Fist retreat to our side of the corridor!"
Garret Sommers |
I'm not entirely sure where we are in combat. I'll just post my potential action.
Garret is still ready to blast one of the monsters if he gets a clear shot.
Earth Blast: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 4 = 8

Niles Devereux |
I'm not entirely sure where we are in combat. I'll just post my potential action.
Let's see if I can make sense of this for my own sanity...its nice to know someone else is as unclear as I am!
Round 1Undead 3 - Presumably charged Torag's fist (otherwise wouldn't have been able to move and attack on the same round.)
Garret - Delayed Earth Blast at Undead 3
Niles - Shot a crossbow at Undead 3
Undead 2 - moved
Nikolai - delayed
Undead 1 - moved
Torag's Fist - withdrew
Celeb - Longbow shot at Undead 3, K:Religion roll to identify creatures which should be a high enough
Dolgrin - ???
Ob - ???
Morād - ???
So we're still waiting on Round 1 actions from Dolgrin (unless that action was spend withdrawing Torag's Fist), Ob and Morad. Garret has posted a second round action which should take place after Undead 3's second round action.
GM Bardez |
Niles has the initiative correct, except there was no surprise round. You guys smelled death, and no one was stealthing, so the party was heard; no surprise round, so full turns are in play.
The phantom of Torag's Fist withdraws safely away from the undead creature (to C3, is that appropriate?).
Celeb looses an arrow as soon as he is able, missing due to distraction from the withdrawing phantom. He is, however, able to identify the creatures.
Dolgrin, Ob and Morād have remaining actions in this round; Nikolai continues to delay.
