In a stone chamber deep beneath the Pathfinder Society’s headquarters in Absalom’s Grand Lodge, a sea of scribes, scholars, and other studious types hover around a single, worn tapestry laid out carefully in this otherwise austere chamber. Marcos Farabellus, the broad-shouldered Master of Swords, sticks out like a sore thumb in this crowd of erudite individuals. His bald head and wide smile are only intensified through a booming laugh that blasts forth from behind a thick, black beard.
“Pathfinders! Gather here.” The Master of Swords strides toward a tactical map pinned against one of the wooden scaffolds that clutter the room at various angles and heights. With a meaty, scarred hand he points to the well drawn map. “We discovered the location of the Aspis Consortium’s forays into the Hao Jin Tapestry. Somewhere within this stone sphinx hides the Aspis Consortium’s base of operations. We believe a portal within the building somehow grants the Consortium a back door into our hard-earned Hao Jin Tapestry. I know the tapestry is usually under the purview of my spellcasting counterpart Aram Zey’s, but this mission is of a purely tactical nature: clear out their base and secure the portal for our own use.
“Now, this stone sphinx is believed to contain a shrine dedicated to the demon lord Areshkagal. Whether the Consortium’s working with demon-worshiping cultists, I don’t know, so be prepared for anything. I don’t care how you reach the Aspis Consortium’s portal, but we need to teach those greedy profiteers a lesson for trespassing on Pathfinder territory. I need you to get in, wipe the shrine clean of Aspis filth, and secure the tapestry side of their portal. By no means enter it, however. Your job is to secure the site and activate the portal only. The Decemvirate plans to send a more experienced team of agents to investigate what lies beyond. Once you have activated the portal, report back here.
“Any questions before you go into the tapestry?”
Roary Flamebearer |
"Sounds like a leave in pieces mission. Shall we leave any alive?"
Jakarno |
"What other defenses do they have-have?" asks an unusually diminuitive Tengu.
He is dressed in long-sleeved black robes with silver and blue designs on them, and there is something odd about him.

Great, another one of them Birdmen..
Gabriel Arken |
This sounds interesting. What do I know about the tapestry or the demon lord?
Michael Riter |
Areshkagal appears as a faceless female sphinx with six legs, midnight blue fur, and pale flesh. Her wings are draconic and her tail is a hissing viper. Her unholy symbol
is a faceless woman’s head decorated with a bloody pharaonic headdress.
Areshkagal’s Abyssal realm is a barren region of crimson, stony hills and gulches through which seep rivers of blood. Scholars call this region the Blood Clefts. Areshkagal
once held sway over a larger area but her hated half-sister, Aldinach (who appears as a demonic scorpion), wrested
the region away from her. These halfsisters share the same mother... Lamashtu.[/b]
Gabriel Arken |
I convey what I know to the group.
How many Aspis Consortium members should we expect to encounter? Also, what have we discovered about the cultists?
Morrolan de'Morcaine |

Do we know the distance or approximate travel time between where we will enter the tapestry and the destination we are seeking?
Logain Xanatus |
Tried to dot earlier, but apparently boards ate my post
Sleeping in his chair, the elf all of a sudden wakes up.
"Whut whot? Issit time to go yet? Another tapestry I see? Oh goody." He says sarcastically.
Gabriel Arken |
The wizard looks around the room.
"Well," he says in a bored tone, "it seems I have all the information I need to proceed. Shall we depart?"
Michael Riter |
Alright, that's everyone!
With that, The Master of Swords guides you to the Tapestry and bids you good luck. As you step through...
You immediately find yourself in a desert like scene, with the sun just beginning to set Dim Lighting. A great stone sphinx rises over a sea of brown sand, breaking the otherwise monotonous, dune-filled horizon. Flanking the impressive sculpture, two faceless statues stare eternally into the endless desert. A faint flicker of torchlight dances from within the stone structure, causing the sphinx to belch out strange shadows at irregular intervals. A quiet rustling of nearby palms and the gentle splashing of water offer refuge from the hot sun.
What time is it?: 1d60 ⇒ 1 Hehehe.
No matter what you all roll, you all notice that several of the lights near the sphinx are getting brighter, and all of a sudden, out comes three men, each carrying torches.
They do not seem to notice you due to the distance. and dim conditions near you... not yet anyways.

Do I think I am able cast Mage Armor without them noticing? If so, I'll duck behind a sand dune or something and cast it (3 hour duration) out of sight.
EDIT: Wow, really? Can't even see DC 5? Lol. Awesome.
Roary Flamebearer |
Surv: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
Roary points to the tracks.. "At least 3 different sets, patrolling by the looks of it.. Id say the Consortium have a moving watch set up. Best we take em fast in case they have some sorta warning system.."
Roary pulls a shiny falchion from its scabbard on his back. "Someone good a talking get their attention. At the first sign of trouble we attack though."
Logain Xanatus |
"Ah yes, I'm sure they are just desperate for a good conversation. But please don't mind me. I never went into a hostile area and had a lovely conversation about the weather with Aspis before, must have been bad luck."

The thread name change almost got me to ignore this thread.

I am willing to get their attention. He waits a moment to see if anyone does not want him to attract the patrol's attention before speaking.
Jakarno |
The diminuitive Tengu, now dressed in dark robes, equipped with a pack, quarterstaff, light crossbow, and dagger, and with a spell component pouch at his waist, who introduced himself as Kiklit, whispers as they observe the patrol, "Am good at illusion magics." he says. "We may enter invisible and under silence."
Invisibility Sphere and Silence anyone?
Also cast False Life before departing. 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Roary Flamebearer |
"A stealth approach is always advisible.. Not sure we need the silence though." The +20 to stealth usually takes care of any noises..
Logain Xanatus |
"Save it for more dangerous foes. I'm sure these men merely want to give us a warm welcome and tea."
nah save it :)

Gabriel Arken |
"Let's take them by surprise," says Gabriel. "Trying to talk to them will give them an opportunity to raise the alarm. We should act as quickly and quietly as possible.
With that said, the Aasimar began readying himself for combat.
Logain Xanatus |
"Ah the wisest thing I have heard anyone say today." Logain says and uses a wand of shield on himself.
Gabriel Arken |
Gabriel tries to stop Logain as he pulls out the wand.
"I wouldn't do that just yet," he whispers. "They are close. We don't want to ruin the element of surprise.
"I have ghost sound prepared," he continues. "I'll use that to divert their attention, which will be our trigger to attack. Hopefully, we can neutralize all 3 before they even have a chance to react."
Michael Riter |
Nevermind. I saw a stealth score of 40 and assumed he was in one... as it turns out, he really is just that good at stealthing... I hope the rest of you are as well. By the way, though these guys have torches so you should be fine now, I WILL be enforcing low light penalties to those who don't have low light vision if you don't have a light source.
Morrolan de'Morcaine |
I have a stealth of -1 but I do have silence as one of my known spells (though only 2 a day). I also have darkvision.
I can't seem to access the roll20 map. Someone please tell me if I need to move. But with my stealth, I may be better waiting until the balloon goes up and charge from where ever I am.
Gabriel Arken |
Once everyone is ready, Gabriel will cast Ghost Sound (metal armor clinking and medium creature footsteps) [Will DC 15 to disbelieve] on the other side of the 3 Aspis agents to make them think there is an attack coming from behind them. That should trigger the surprise round if they don't notice our attack.
Roary Flamebearer |
If you have the pdf form of the mod you can copy/paste the map pic from the mod to a google drawing. then you just have to give access to edit and copy/paste the google link for us..
Roary Flamebearer |
Sounds like we're ready then.. I can't access the map so if i cant charge them let me know..
Assuming the others would attempt to take out one of the Aspis men Roary rages and charges one of them, very silently..
Rage, Charge, PA: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (9) + 18 = 27
Damage: 2d4 + 19 ⇒ (1, 1) + 19 = 21 +2 if he's a spellcaster
Morrolan de'Morcaine |
Ok, I can get into the roll20 on my new/old home PC. My tablet and work computer can't get to it.
GM
What is the pink arrow?
Am I seeing that correct that there are 2 more in front of the entrance?
Morrolan whispers, Roary, the torches will ruin their night vision. Let them get a bit closer before you charge. Maybe beside that pond will be a good place. Wait until Jakarno uses the silence spell on you. That way once you are amongst them, they will not be able to call out and warn others.
Logain and Gabriel, if one or more try to run, are you capable of stopping them without a lot of noise or flash?
Though slower, I will close with Roary.
If they haven't reacted before then, I would suggest we start when they get to the boxes I marked in green. Then the trees may help screen the action from any of their allies at the sphinx. I can't imagine them going much further without noticing us.
Of course if they seem like they notice something before then, go nuts.
Roary Flamebearer |
Once the men reach the area indicated to him, green box, he will move to enguage them. Forgo the last attack as i will not be able to reach them and attack this round.. He'll just double move and get in there face..
AC 19
Jakarno |
Once Roary reaches the patrollers, Kiklit speaks the short arcane phrase that triggers the scroll in his hands. A curtain of silence descends over Roary and the Aspis guards.
Three rounds and a 20ft radius emanation from Roary
Logain Xanatus |
Logain advanced a single move after Roary and uses his hex ability to summon a bit of sleeping powder to attack the first foe in sight slumber hex dc16 will or fall asleep
Michael Riter |
Anythinng else for the surprise round? Also, would you kindly move yorselves on the google map? Also... I was wrong about them carrying torches. For some reason they have none in their inventory, meaning not only you all have to deal with low light conditions... but they do too. :/
Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Morrolan de'Morcaine |
Full plate and a double move I can only go 4 squares in difficult terrain. Another double move just to get to them unless they come closer. {sigh}
Logain, I moved you forward 3 squares as you said.
Gabriel Arken |
Gabriel moves into an advantageous position within 35' of the Aspis agents and casts Acid Splash on the most advantageous one.
I'm at work so can't see the map. Can someone move me to a spot where I can fire Acid Splash at an enemy without any penalties for cover or melee?
Acid Splash ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Acid Splash damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
