Shrouded in thick fog, the shifting Gloomspires north of the Shackles have long frustrated explorers. However, a recent discovery by the Pathfinder Society has revealed a brief opportunity to navigate the columns safely and search for the lost treasure of the legendary pirate Sevenfingers.

Word on the grapevine is that an expedition is currently being organised...

A weathered tengu, Zykon tends to squint a lot, and carries a well-crafted crossbow either at the ready or over his shoulder. A poncho covers most of his upper body, with an equally weather-beaten conical hat atop his head.

For the most part, his conversation seems limited to grunts, nods, and the occasional deadpan stare. He can, apparently, talk. He just doesn't talk much.

Aldur Sanvell is a librarian, though not what people tend to think of when you say that word. A thin fhalf-elf in studded leather, not an inch of skin is visible beneath the black and red cloak and gloves he wears. Covering his face is a metal mask, impassive and ominous. A shortbow made of greenwood is slung on his back, and his pouches are full of tools, tricks and extracts for any occasion.

When asked what kind of librarian he is, Aldur simply shrugs and says "Acquisitions."

Deep in the shadows near the walls lurks an elf like none you have ever seen. He seems almost at odds with the world and from what you know about elf society he doesn't quiet fit the normalcy.

Wrapped in multiple areas with bandages stained with grease and blood he looks a mess. Add to that the amount of vials and flask and other weird containers strapped across his 2 bandoliers and you would swear he was trying to blend into the walls of a corner apothercary shop.

Even the slight grin on his face makes you worry that this my be some mentally unstable fellow. There's just that glint in his eyes that worries you may he may try anything, and worse... enjoy it.

Walking into the room, my light brown, almost amber colored eyes look at the assembled bunch. The bird-man stands out the most, not for his foreign dress, or the part that he is a walking bird, but in the way that he holds and handles his crossbow, clearly marking him a master of trade and a deadly adversary at range.

The completely masked man dressed in studded leather is a rather odd sort with that metal mask. I can only hope he is not one of those Raz a maz taz what ever there name is weirdos from up north. A interesting bunch.

Course, just when I think think cannot get much weirder, the elf with his bandolier belts looks rather mad as a hatter. Perhaps it aint one to many tainted mushrooms.

I courteously nod to each, I'm Titus Minicius Parthicus before sauntering over to a free seat and table, where unceremoniously I dump my marching pack, lower my shield, plop my helm on the table, and park myself on the seat.

Not saying march, I wait to hear from my future employeer.

The elf makes his way to the corner of the bar and pulls out the chair as he sits down and scibbles a list out on a small parchment of paper. After whispering to the bar tender he hands the paper over and the bar tender looks a little concerned as he says something back to elf.

Spoiler:
"Your sure you want this mixed together?"

As the elf nods, the bar tender gets to work and slowly and causiously brings back a rather large shot glass. The elf seems to slip something extra into it from a small vial then in one gulp downs it all. Turning back toward Titus he exclaims, "Names BoomAhg, can I get ya a drink."

In other news, word from Jesse is that GMs should be getting their scenarios soon, so watch this space!

How do I add the info on the line under my name? Also for some reason I can not figure out how to add a avatar to each of my alias's...

To add an avatar, you need to go to 'my account' and edit your alias from there. To add the lines under your name, fill in the info in one of the fields of your profile. For example, in your profile, instead of just typing 'male' in your 'gender' field, type 'male elf alchemist 1 etc etc etc".

Aldur moves smoothly to the table and sits down to the right of Titus, even though the invitation was not addressed to him.

"Gentlemen, I believe I am intended to be a member of your party." His voice is a solid tenor, if slightly muffled by his mask. His head shifts towards BoomAgh, and it is clear he is unnerved by the alchemist. He adjusts in his chair, trying through body language to project his presence through the seat on his right, making it an unappealing place for the alchemist to sit.

He is more open with Gibbs and Titus, or as open as a masked man can be, and nods to them politely.

Looking at the man with the mask, Welcome, although I did not catch your name. What do you go by? If you did not hear out over the the dull roar of the crowd, I go by Titus Minicius Parthicus, but you can call me Titus for short.

I roll my fingers on the table a few times before turning back to Aldur. I have to ask...the mask...is it by choice, or perhaps for religious reasons? I am not judging, but a bit of background would be informative. If you tell me to mind my own business, ...heh...I got it...but I like to know a bit about the team I am with before we are truly tested.

With that, I look at Aldur in the eyes, or where his eyes should be behind his mask, before taking a sip from the recently purchased beverage from BoomAhg and leaning back in my chair, assume there was a back to the chair.

Ok, I can move things forward a little as we wait for the others to weigh in. They may be waiting for the actual start of the event before checking in. I've started to read through the scenario, and can at least start setting the scene for the briefing.

It is not uncommon to be sent to the docks or sent on a ship from the docks for a mission following a mission briefing at a Pathfinder Lodge. However, to be told to report to the docks for a mission briefing is for many a rather novel experience. So when you receive your orders that you are to travel to Drenchport in the shackles for your briefing, you meet the news with some surprise.

The below check is not something in the scenario, hence the option to bypass it altogether by asking around at the Grand Lodge, if that is something your character would do. The information leads into the mission briefing proper. The low DC takes into account the fact that you are Pathfinders.

Knowledge local DC 10 or if you ask around the Grand Lodge in Absalom before setting off for Drenchport:

The Pathfinder Society's Arcadian Mariner’s Lodge is a somewhat lesser-known lodge for several reasons, not least because its Lodge is, well, not quite a lodge in the traditional sense. The lodge is led by Captain (and also Venture-Captain) Calisro Benarry, who uses her personal vessel, the Grinning Pixie, as a "Lodge'. Whilst this means that she has the most mobile lodge by far, (Venture) Captain Benarry has been reportedly focusing her activities in the Shackles in recent years.

Aldur is a common sight at the docks, and he works them like a professional. He stops to speak with a half-dozen stevedores, occasionally leaning in and dropping a copper piece into an open belt pouch or hand. Aldur's dog, a massive hound named Warlock, trots behind him, unleashed, his nose poking at crates with an unusual scent, or the waiting lunch of one of the dock workers.

As Aldur speaks to a bosun from a Jalmeray vessel, Warlock dashes into a dozen pigeons pecking at bread crumbs tossed by sailors taking a short break. The scene explodes in a cacophony of barks, hoots and laughter. Aldur thanks the bosun, calls for Warlock to heel, and heads back to inform his companions of his discoveries.

We may have lost Nagaki. He has not responded to my message or dotted in. Your levels at 1, 2, 2, 2, 4, for an average of 2.2, so you will be playing in the lower tier.

You are met at the docks by a wiry half-elven sailor who upon confirming your identities hustles you aboard a weathered but sturdy vessel which has for a masthead a curious winged humanoid with a wide manic grin. A golden plate on the hull to the left of the masthead reads "The Grinning Pixie", confirming the identity your Venture-Captain for this mission. You are moved along with no explanation or ceremony - as soon as you are aboard, a tall, broad-shouldered half-orc begins barking orders and the Grinning Pixie weighs anchor to set sail for the high seas. As the crew sets about their duties, the half-elf herds you into a large meeting room below decks where he tells you to wait for the captain before running off on some other errand. Whilst you no doubt have questions, he offers little by way of answers apart from muttering something about 'missing the solstice' and half-berating you for taking as long as you did to get here.

Within the hour, you become aware that the ship has made it to the oceans, the choppy waters rocking the boat to and fro. The sounds of a storm sound out from beyond the timbers of the room, and you are beginning to feel a little disconcerted about being brought on to a strange vessel and carried off without so much as an explanation as to what is going on. Eventually, the door of the room swings open, and the large half-orc woman you saw giving orders earlier ambles in with a broad grin on her face and several clay jugs in her hands. She motions you to sit around a wooden table in the middle of the room, and she does likewise as she studies the jugs in her hand, as if trying to choose from amongst them.

"Right then, you land-lubbers are the ones that were sent from Absalom, aye? Captain Calisro Benarry's the name, and that's also 'Venture-Captain' to you. Take a seat. Take a seat. There's abit of a story to tell."

The meeting room is small, and clearly doubles as the surgery during times of battle. The table they're sitting around has bloodstains deep in the wood grain, and a shelf nearby has three medical volumes. Aldur fingers a notch in the table, clearly made by a saw, and thinks back to the sailors he noticed with peg legs. The feel of his healing wand in its sheathe is very comforting.

I think BoomAhg and I are the closest thing to a caster we have, aren't we?

Scoured Stars Map

Heh, not sure where you are getting that from, but it can surely be what Aldur thinks about the room. ;)

As the Grinning Pixie lurches and sways in the storm, Venture-Captain Benarry grins widely as she waits for you to take your seats, then chooses a clay jug from her collection and takes a deep long pull from it before sliding it across the table to you. The powerful fumes of a strong Sargavan rum wafts to your nostrils, and the first of you who picks it up notes with surprise that it is already half-empty.

Though broad-shouldered and half a head taller than most humans, the intimidating half-orc speaks with an almost childlike excitement in her husky voice. “My apologies for all the haste and secrecy,” she says. “I had to make sure some pirate rascal didn’t catch wind of our mission. Now that Drenchport’s a week behind us and we’re hugging the Eye of Abendego, it’s time to give you lubbers the full run-down.”

Benarry waits for the jug to make its way back to her, then drains it in a single pull before cracking the seal on another jug, then takes a long pull from that jug before passing it around again. Evidently the Venture-Captain packs a bag of holding in her gullet, given her rate of alcohol-consumption.

“I told the Society that I wanted you to explore a recently discovered ruin somewhere north of the Shackles. Well, that was partly true, but it wasn’t exactly the whole story.” Benarry’s eyes narrow and her grin becomes unsettlingly sharklike. “We’re actually sending you to the Gloomspires, to Old Sevenfingers’s tomb.”

Chuckling softly, she motions for the jug and drains it, then gives you all a mildly-accusatory look as if it were your fault that it was already empty.

“Wow you lubbers love your alcohol," she sighs as she cracks open a third jug. "No matter. Here, have another nip. You'll need it,” she laughs as she takes yet another swig before passing it along.

Scoured Stars Map

Once the game day officially starts (tomorrow), you can roll the following knowledge checks. There are 2 sets of information you can make knowledge checks for at this time:

The Gloomspires:

Knowledge (arcana or history) 15+:

The Gloomspires are an ancient field of massive stone columns that rise from the Arcadian Ocean. Most sages say they were already old when the Ghol-Gan Empire was young. The Gloomspires are hollow and
contain many chambers and passages, all of which are believed to be cursed, monster-infested, or both.

Knowledge (arcana or history) 20+:

Since the time of Ghol-Gan, many of the Gloomspires have been explored, and some have even been claimed and repurposed by other beings. Of these, Sevenfingers’s tomb is the most well known.

Knowledge (arcana or history) 25+:

The Gloomspires are inundated with strange, reality-warping effects. The columns occasionally shift their positions, and many explorers report feeling a sense of wrongness and foreboding just from being in the area. This bizarre magic also makes teleportation and plane traveling magic very difficult, though summoning spells tend to function normally.

Knowledge (arcana or history) 30+:

The Gloomspires were constructed during the Age of Serpents by a humanoid race of powerful sorcerers called the Makers, who are believed to have escaped enslavement from some nightmarish realm and fled to Golarion.

The pirate Sempet Sevenfingers

Knowledge (arcana, history, or local) DC15:

15+ Sempet Sevenfingers was a legendary pirate who was active in the region 300 years ago.

Knowledge (arcana, history, or local) DC20:

From his dreaded flagship, the Voracious, Sevenfingers commanded a small fleet of pirate ships. He was feared and despised for using cannibals and madmen to augment his boarding parties.

Knowledge (arcana, history, or local) DC25:

Sevenfingers was a powerful wizard who dabbled in necromancy and communed with evil outsiders, entities from the Dark Tapestry, and other beings from unspeakable realms beyond Golarion.

Knowledge (arcana, history, or local) DC30:

Sevenfingers had dealings with the denizens of Leng. His flagship, the Voracious, was actually a black ship of Leng, gifted to Sevenfingers by his dreadful allies.

If you use Knowledge Arcana or History, roll seperately for each set of knowledge checks.

What time zone counts as 'start' of the Game Day? I only ask because I'm posting this at roughly 1900 hours on the *17th* which would make tomorrow the *18th* here?

Hmm... good point. Officially the game day starts on the 19th, on the Saturday. But when exactly that is will vary from player to player depending on timezone.

Eh, I'll say that since no timezone was specified for the game day, as long as it is the 19th in your timezone, go ahead and roll it. =) I'm sure this is one of those very minor details that campaign leadership won't bust a blood vessel over.

Well Captain, I don't know a lot about that part of the world, but my guess is that it got its title for a reason....since we seem to be a captive audience, why don't you fill in some of the details for us, unless, of course, you don't know.

And why exactly do you want us to disturb this tomb? What relic is so important that you left out these details?

Zykon has been almost functionally mute the entire journey, keeping to the background, watching the goings-on about ship, and in general keeping a really low profile.

The meeting, though, does cause him to ruffle his feathers a bit at points.

"Y'think maybe keepin' too many secrets might kick you in the butt sometime? What else ya got?"

Despite the implied 'dig' of the words, there's not a lot of harshness, but rather a bit of understanding. Can't blame you, Absalom isn't very secure for communication. Bigger the city, the more folks know...

The Venture Captain grins as she takes another swig, then slams the jug on the table.

“I’ve been researching the Gloomspires for a very long time. Before I sailed to Absalom and joined the Society, I was a Free Captain here in the Shackles. Back then I learned about the Gloomspires, Old Sevenfingers, and all the treasure and secrets the old devil took with him when he sealed himself in his tomb.”

“Since joining the Society, I’ve been able to learn even more about the Gloomspires. Most importantly, I’ve discovered that they’re tied to certain alignments of the stars, and that twice each year—beginning on the nights of the summer and winter solstices—the columns cease moving for exactly three days. So, tomorrow’s the summer solstice. Now that you know the ‘where’ and the ‘when’ of this little caper, you need to know why the Society’s sending you.”

Benarry pauses before continuing in a more conspiratorial voice.

“I recently came into the possession of a logbook once owned by the pirate captain, Mazzer Thrennt. Before Thrennt ended up as lusca-bait seven years back, he was a moderately successful pirate who shared my obsession with the Gloomspires. It turns out his log contains an inventory of the plunder he liberated over the years, including the loot he found in Sevenfingers’s tomb. One item on Thrennt’s list immediately got my attention: His log described with perfect accuracy a relic from lost Lirgen called the Orb of Stars. I’m certain that this device can manipulate the alignments of the stars—or at least how we perceive them— and historical accounts suggest we could also use it to trick the Gloomspires into thinking that the solstice lasts more than just a day. The Society and I both want that orb, and it’s going to look really good to the folks back home if you’re able to secure it."

"Here,” she says, passing a sheet of parchment across the table. “I’ve written down some of the particulars.”

Refer to the handout here.

I raise my eyebrows a bit as I read the parchment before handing it to my next comrade on this grand adventure.

Well, on the surface it appears to be very straight forward. We get in, we get the ord, and then we get out.

Rest my right hand on the table, fingers rapping gently

So run this by me again, what is our exit strategy? Time appears to be a limited resource, and frankly, I don't want to spend six months or longer if we miss our exit window.

"If you complete your mission in time, you will simply roaw back to the Grinning Pixie on my folding boat. I won't be moving it for the duration of the three days. After that, even if I didn't weigh anchor, the shifting of the Gloomspires would make it difficult to say the least to find me again, and frankly I am not keen to still be here and risk running the Pixie ashore or onto some rocks when the Gloomspries move."

"If you miss your exit window, you will still have my folding boat, but you will otherwise need to find your own way back to Absalom, but that is only assuming that the shifting of the Gloomspires does not somehow prevent that. Whatever the case, it would be best for you to NOT miss the exit window. I'm not trying to be harsh here, but for the mission, three days should be very ample time."
