Quartz Fizzlebang |
Quartz pulls out a vial and drinks it then pulls out another sunrod and cracks it. "When you open the door im going to throw this into the middle of the room to try to light it up a bit."
Drink Shield Extract and ready to throw sunrod if i can.
Chaul Drammarson |
Before moving on, Chaul quickly checks the room for magical auras.
Once that is done, Chaul checks everyone is ready and then opens the door.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
As you turn around and go for the next door Quartz drinks a shield extract and gets ready to toss a sunrod in
It's not possible to ready something out of initiative, but you can toss the sunrod in if there's nothing on the other side to fight
After Chaul checks if everyone is ready he opens the door to reveal:
Stairs wind downward to the right, circling around a glowing wall of semi-translucent green stone. It seems the Azlanti tower was built around a core of some other material—a spire within a spire.
There are also 2 goblins (wearing leather armor, a shield and a short sword, with short bows strapped to their backs in here).
These stairs circle around the Spire, leading down.
Just above the landing, the green crystal Spire is marked with a complex sigil the size of a human hand. This sigil is noticeably different from the sigil recorded on the scroll you found already, although they are stylistically similar.
@Quartz; since there's 2 goblins in side and we'll go into initiative you can't toss in a sunrod, but since the green glow actually provides light I don't think you'd mind too much

Quartz drops his sunrod and grabs his crossbow. Then fires at a goblin through Chauls legs, seeing his bolt go wide he reloads.
Chaul swings his weapon at the goblin in front of him and before it can get it's shield to block the weapon hits home.
I think Sera has a reach weapon right? so that would be against the red one?

The goblin can't stand against the assault you place against it and it succumbs to your attacks (mostly from Kon..but but let's call it a team-effort)
The way down is clear.
Just so you know, it's the way to the next lvl of the module..but there's one encounter that's still part of this "area". So along with the other set of double doors in the middle, there's still 2 ways for you to go....not including going outside and head back, which would make 3

Kon looks down and takes the coconut in to her hand and with a questioning look to soul
"good thats right you go ahead no eat up...that my girl"
Soul pets her in the head as she drinks an then eats the coconut
soul turns to the group
"well ok lets make sure that nothing can come up behind us be for we go further into the place..."

The party moves to the other side of the spire and opens the doors to reveal;
Stairs wind upward to the right, circling around a glowing wall of semi-translucent green stone. It seems the Azlanti tower was built around a core of some other material—a spire within a spire.
These stairs circle around the Spire, leading up.
They circle around the Spire two and a half times, climbing through ruined and impassible levels to a large chamber at the top of the tower. The curving stairs end in a sturdy wooden door with a shuttered arrow slit in its middle.
Not everyone fits on the stairs, so I've put you behind each other in the order I sort of think you'd be. Feel free to change the starting order for now
As Chaul leans forward to test to see if the door is closed (it is locked) he can see the tip of an arrow appear in the arrow slit.

Okay, re-read, it looks like we are at the door...So Chaul will flattern himself against it to avoid being a target and get out of the way of Quartz.

Just to clarify, you are indeed right in front of the door - on a 5ft wide staircase lined up behind each other
Chaul flattens himself against the door to avoid being a target and get out of the way of Quartz.

"This is a little more solid and will buy us some time. Get that door open."
Revvy Bitterleaf |
When I said more time I meant for the people who hadn't acted yet. ..but I can see how that wasn't clear
Gunnar moves to the back of the line as Sera suggestion and takes up a defensive posture (NPC-ing him in) while she takes a stab at the door. She hit's it easily but the though old wood resist some of the impact. There's a minor dent in it, but it will take a bit more punishment before going down
@Soulveliss; that would mean there's 3 people in front of the door now..pretty sure that's not allowed by the rules, but I'll allow it for now to keep things moving.
Soulveliss pushes his way forward and squeezes himself next to Chaul and Quartz while shoving his backpack against the arrow slit, blocking part of it.
An arrow get's fired from the other side of the door at 1C2Q3S: 1d3 ⇒ 2 Quartz
To hit AC Quartz: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 8 + 1 = 24
and with Quartz is uncomfortable squeezed between Chaul and Soulveliss denying him some movement to dodge the backpack in front of the arrow slot absorbs most of the forward momentum of the arrow but it still manages to pierce Quart's skin. Squeezing = -4 to dex, so with giving you a bonus for the backpack that's -2 AC/+2 AC)
Damage Quartz: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
The first arrow is quickly followed by a second one.
1C2Q3S: 1d3 ⇒ 1 This one going for Chaul
To hit AC Chaul: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 1 = 28
The damage backpack isn't absorbing as much anymore and the arrow pierces Chaul's shoulder
Damage Chaul: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
Quartz then manages to unlock the door. (Going to assume you'd use your move action to push open the door) Behind the door is:
This strange chamber pulses with the green glow of the column of glass-like crystal that forms the core of the tower. The walls of the room are damaged, and the roof is cracked. The spire in the center juts up, just peaking above the crude ceiling. A bed and a side table sit in the northern half of the room, and archery targets line the southern section of wall.
(The area is light due to the green glow btw)
Standing in the doorway is a Bugbear, wielding a longbow, wearing leather armor with a morningstar strapped to his belt.

With space being tight Gunnar figures it might be better to soften up the foe with some magic tricks.
Ray of sickening (DC 14). Use studied target. This may or may not up the spell DC by +1 this is sort of up to DM discretion as there is no FAQ on the issue.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
@Sera, as far as I understand the rules..you can't walk through an enemies square without using either acrobatics or an overrun maneuver. And since he's blocking the doorway..you can't walk just past him
Same goes for Chaul
@Chaul, it might hit flatfooted..but you've been in combat with him for 2 rounds now

If you changed Seras attack to an overrun would that knock it down?
Also I am going to put my next post on here for when Quartz is up again.

Drink true strike. My next attack gets a +20 to hit.
Chaul Drammarson |
Can we 5' step up next to him to make space? I think both Sera and myself assumed we were going around him (as he doesn't have a melee weapon in hand) rather than through him. Fair point about the flat-footedness though.
Quartz Fizzlebang |
Since he is in the square right behind the door you cant step around him. The door frame is a hard corner and you cant move though an enemy square unless they are helpless. So we would have to acrobatics, overrun or bullrush to get past him. bull rush might work best as it will force him back and others can try to get in then.

About the moving past the bugbear -> what Quartz said
Chaul tries to beat back the bugbear..but it's as if Chaul runs into a solid wall! (which with a natural 1 he might actually have done)
Soulveliss tries to trip the bugbear, but the creature proofs far to sturdy to get tripped up like that (doesn't beat his CMD - but you didn't fail with 10 or more so you keep hold of your whip)
