For ages untold, a gemstone monolith has pierced the heart of the Echo Wood. Now, as civilization intrudes upon this enigmatic splinter, a strange life once again stirs in the depths—one with ties to undying evils and a might beyond time itself. The promise of wealth and power calls to glory-seekers from across the Inner Sea region, tempting them into a labyrinth of monster-haunted vaults, defiled tombs, arcane laboratories, and worse, as they seek to unveil the secrets locked below the legendary Emerald Spire.
As you emerge from the Echo Wood underbrush, you find yourselves staring up at a ruined keep guarding a broken central tower, all made of smooth, green glass. It’s obvious that a grand battle took place here many years ago, and the clearing around the ruin lies barren, with sickly weeds struggling to rise from the magic-blasted earth. Melted chunks of twisted glass pepper the ground, lending a green hue to the clearing’s light. Despite the damage, however, the glass of the keep itself seems to have avoided the ravages of time, with those pieces that survived the initial cataclysm unmarred by pitting or cracking, clean of moss and other clinging debris.
At the top of a steep dirt path winding up through the rubble, a doorway opens onto darkness, its entrance seeming to steal light into its inky depths.
Sera Dragonbane |
Sera Dragonbane grips her weapon, a Glaive named Wyrmbane, tightly as she approaches the magnificent structure. Swatting a few mosquitoes buzzing around her face, she quickly glances to make sure her new allies were right behind her. "Well, it looks like we are finally here... about time too. I was wondering if we'd ever make our way out of that blasted forest. Then again, this tower is quite hard to miss."
Taking a small sip from her canteen, she continues facing the others. "I am not sure why the Society sent you all here, but I am to clear whatever evil make lurk inside. Do as you wish, and seek out whatever treasures you desire; I will not stop you as long as you do not stop me."
Soulveliss Sangre |
as Soul has an arrow nocked and ready as he comes out of the woods looking around. Satisfied that there is no immediate danger he stows the arrow and the bow
"well Sera for as long as ive known you you've always been bad in the forest. To tell you the truth Kon and i were surprised you volunteered to come to this place. It was a long way from the city but im glade to have you. "
Soul whistles and out of the trees jumps a ape strong and ready for action. Soul tosses it a coconut and the ape Kon brakes it open with one hand sitting and eating his treat
"theirs a good boy Kon now eat well there will be danger soon"
looking to the rest of the group
"well how did the rest of you fair in the travel here, are you ready or must we pause so your body can rest?"
as soul turns back to the city
"well this must ave been quite a place to see when it was alive"
Gunnar Graubart |
Stop ye whinin las! Told ye two days ago it was only a shorts walk and here we is. Ye with yer long legs shoulda has less problem than us old and small fellows ey?
The Dwarf grumbles in the direction of the Paladin as he slaps the Gnome on the back none too gently.
Anyways. I feel refreshed from the time in the fresh air so what er we waiten fer?
Just assuming for the sake of narative and party cohesion that we came here together
Sera Dragonbane |
Sera shrugs and gives the dwarf a crooked grin. "Oh its nothing against the walk... its the environment that makes me uncomfortable. Too many reptilian beings crawling around the woods for my liking. Cities and underground ruins make me far more comfortable than this humid place." She quickly checks her gear once more, looking for imperfections in her weapon and armor. "And besides, I'm sure at least one or two of those creatures are in that Spire. Its high time an ancient place like this see a bit of Toragian justice.
Quartz Fizzlebang |
Quartz shakes off the dwarfs 'pat' looking at him, "You said 2 days ago 4 days ago! Poor Penelope's hooves!" He looks to the donkey patting her neck. "Its ok girl we're here now. You can rest up for a while. Remember to stay behind the group girl."
Quartz looks to Sera,"I feel better at home or a tavern or my lab or the lodge or... well most places. This spire gives me the creeps."
A few minutes pass Quartz brushes Penelope making sure she has some water. Prattling away about random things as he does. After that he walks a way up the path then turns around walking back, juggling something small and round between his hands. All his worries seem to have been overcome with new excitement. He does this a few times before looking to his companions, "When do you want to head in? Are we expecting anyone else? I thought there was a few more people we were supposed to meet here. I wonder what they are like? I wonder if there is another gnome. Its been a while since I adventured with another gnome. I mean i like you guys you seem fun but I've noticed you cant always keep up with the conversation. Not that its a bad thing. Just saying."
Soulveliss Sangre |
I'm sorry you need to be this tall to be heard ^_^

I heard this is suposed to be a tough adventure. But to me the current group looks well balanced. However I don't think we have anyone who can handle traps save for ...Penelope

Traps? I have a ten foot long Glaive. If anything, we poke the ground in front of us after every perception check, just in case.

Sera Dragonbane |
Gunnar is very neutral and knows that dath is merely a part of the universal order...
And if you were to bring that up in polite conversation, that would be an excellent way to show off that 5 charisma XD Still, willingfully sending things to their deaths, sentient or not. and besides... Torag sees creatures of the earth as sacred, and as far as Sera is concerned, if it walks on land rather than swims or flies, then it is a creature of the earth.
Quartz Fizzlebang |
Thats why summons work so well. They just go home when they die.
Quartz hugs the Ape. "Well aren't you just the most friendly Ape I have ever seen. I knew you were a good friend to have along! And Penelope didn't bite you when you pet her! That means she likes you." Quartz says steping back and smiling at the Ape.
Sera Dragonbane |
After they suffer the pain of the trap that likely killed them.
Sera grumbles. "I don't like all this waiting around. When are we to go in and see what waits for us?"
Soulveliss Sangre |
as soon as Quartz release the hug Kong tilts his head and right before she pics him up for a longer hug she heads her masters word and moves to his side
"she can be quite friendly if given the chance, now let's see what lies before us shall we?"

Quartz checks on Penelope then looks to the group. "Well we're ready to go. If anyone comes late they can catch up in the tower." Quartz looks back to Penelope grabbing her lead, "Now don't give me that look Penelope. Its not going to be that bad. Its a tower! You like buildings. I'm sure it wont be that bad." He says leading Penelope up the trail.
Sera Dragonbane |
Well, on the map, it looks like we are on a path. Anyone besides the Paladin with a -2 penalty to Perception checks want to examine the road to check for traps/ambushes? :3
Revvy Bitterleaf |
I've put you on the path because it's pretty much the only part of the map you can see and I could scale the avatar's properly in the squares, feel free to approach from anywhere you want
Just to repeat:
The stone staircase that led up to the tower’s door is now nothing more than a rubble-strewn cliff. On the tower’s south side, a dirt path winds up the steep embankment to a pitch-black doorway.
The footpath climbs up to a jagged hole in the side of the green glass tower. The light outside the tower does not penetrate into the building more than a few feet. Beyond that, it’s pitch black.
As you can see on the map, there's a broken down staircase (middle top) which might be climbable with some effort..and the path leading up to a hole in the ruins (middle left)
Quartz Fizzlebang |
Quartz and Penelope follow along. The gnome chatting endlessly of all the things he sees.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
"Hey look Penelope a flower! See this place isnt so bad." After he says that Penelope walks over to the flower, smells it, then eats it.
Sera Dragonbane |
Before continuing, Sera breaks a sunrod and hangs on her belt to provide bright light. Carefully stepping along the path, Sera makes her way closer to the door, taking a single move action (20 feet from the starting position) all the while, poking the the ground ten feet in front of her with her glaive. If nothing happens with this movement (and assuming the party is following right behind her) then she will take another 20 feet. Same process until she reaches the door.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
The path itself seems safe.
As Sera pulls out an lights a sunrod which bathes the entire side of the ruins in bright light (but doesn't seem to penetrate the darkness inside) you can hear a shout coming from inside the ruins
You can then make out the shape of a goblin riding on top of what looks like a naked dog shooting a bow at you as it moves around the corner of the opening in the wall
Moved Sera a bit back since she wouldn't have made it this far before the goblin showed up

Sera curses in the draconic tongue as an arrow flies by her. She turns around to warn the party, smiling when she sees that they are ready for battle as well. I should switch to Goblinskewer for this. Wyrmtongue her glaive's new name is for more appropriate foes.
How tall is this ledge beside me? Is it currently blocking my view of the goblin?
Revvy Bitterleaf |
@Quartz; You could have moved up a bit, so I put you all behind Sera, if someone didn't want to follow that closely feel free to move back
@Sera, nothing specified in the scenario, so to keep things simple..going with 5 ft. It going to need a climb check DC 10 to move over it and it's not blocking view to the goblin due to it being nice and sloped.
