For those of you who don't know me;
I'm using googledocs for the map (linked at the top of the page), you can move your own icon around on the map. Just be careful to not move the map since it will mess stuff up.
Since this is pbp and it can take a loooooooong time to do stuff I'll use a few things to speed it up:
-if everyone rolls their own initiative and goes in the order they rolled it might take a few more days to get through each combat so I will roll for everyone and post in blocks who's turn it is. If your name is up in bold you can post your action. Since it's possible for players to delay on each other I will assume that actions happen in the order they get posted. If you want to delay/ready until after someone else does something just include it in your post and we'll fit it in where appropriate. If you do a ready, please include all relevant die rolls already
initiative will look something like this:
init
Player 1, player 2
Enemy
Players 3, Player 4
If at least 2 people agree on a direction (and nobody is arguing against going there)...that's where I'll assume the party is heading and go from there.
If you want to set up an SOP for walking down corridors (marching order) and who's going to be opening doors/looking for traps, ect.) I'll use that once a direction has been chosen, unless there isn't enough time to do so I'll always assume you are taking 20 on relevant rolls.
If you haven't posted in 24 hours and you are the last to post I will NPC you in to keep the pace going. Most of the time that will be putting you on full defense or withdrawing from combat.
If you are going away for a prolonged period (like a few days/week) - not a problem as long as you let me know in advance and I'll NPC you in. If you haven't let me know and you don't post I'll have your character tag along for a few days and after that he will stay behind to guard a passage way or head back to town.
To speed some checks up I will sometimes post spoiler blocks with a skill and listed DC, if you make the DC you can check what's behind the spoiler and act on that knowledge. If you want to check for something and there isn't a spoiler block you can still do so. There may or may not be relevant information when I didn't put up a spoiler block
These might include, but are not limited to; Perception checks, Knowledge rolls and anything else I think might apply.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

While we're waiting for the whole crew to show up I just wanted to warn everyone that, despite my best efforts, a blizzard will be arriving later this evening and by this time tomorrow I will be digging myself out of approximately 2 feet of snow. Not sure whether I'll have consistent power or internet as a result of the storm but I will check in as often as I can.
In the meantime I have the day off from work tomorrow, plenty of beer, and the wife is planning on making cookies; so please don't worry about me too much!

A question about Studied target.. It counts as a move action, right? So I can not Move, Study, and fire an arrow, all in the same round, correct?
Revvy Bitterleaf |
This won't take much longer, so if anyone has a dayjob - feel free to start rolling.
I'll get the chronicles out this week, but as I understand it reporting might take some time. There are (were?) some issues with reporting multi-session modules like Emerald Spire and Thornkeep when they implemented CORE.

Thanks for running this. If you're continuing on or running something else, let me know.

I don't like running something I haven't played myself yet.
I'm currently playing this myself via pbp..but at a slower rate then you guys. So I can run the next level (for lvl 1-3), but I can't commit to anything after that.
Sorry about the chronicles, I got stuck babysitting and will be doing the same tomorrow so to be honest - unless I get the chance at work - I won't be able to send those out till Friday.
I think I have Richard PFS number somewhere, but I'd like confirmation on the character number since I can't seem to find it.
Seems like I have all the other information I'd need (unless someone is running on slow track?) other then that this is sort of special in that it has 2 chronicles..the normal one..and an extra one where you can invest prestige into buying "land" near the emerald spire for returns later..I'll post a link to the general one and you can decide if you want that one
It will cost 2 prestige to buy the first square (A), which will be filled in on your (other) chronicle
Torrag Grimm |
Take your time with the chronicles. I'd be up for running the next one if you're willing.
Eladrian |
I am not sure about this land thing.. anyone else have an opinion? Other than the stated benefits on the chronicle, what are the advantages to owning land?
As for the time, dont worry about it.. Life happens.
If you do decide to run something else, would we have to catch it on the boards or would you give us first dibs?
Revvy Bitterleaf |
@Eladrian, for the next part if everyone is on board we are just going forward with it here.
If someone drops out and I need to start a new thread, you get first dibs.
And as far as I can tell, unless you plan to play most/all of the Emerald Spire with the same character there's not much mechanical benefit of buying a plot. Might be nice RP though. You need to get to E, F and/or G for the nicer mechanical stuff, which is a bit of an investment.
You should have gotten a message with a link to your chronicle, if you spot something that's wrong let me know and I'll try to fix it.

Count me in for part 2. Give me the weekend as well. Thanks.
Torrag Grimm |
I wouldn't mind doing the land thing as well.
Eladrian |
Good lord.. I did not realize that the chronicle would give us 3 xp.. I will do my lvl up stuff level up first thing tomorrow.

In regards to readying an action out of combat this is how I handle it as a DM:
I treat out of combat triggered actions as if that character has already rolled initiative and is in combat and when combat starts he gets placed where appropriate for completing a triggered action.
I was running a game this weekend, and this situation came up. The party was trying to open a sarcophagus. They were unable to strength check the lid (vacuum sealed shut for centuries) so one of the party members got his adamantine ax out and started hacking at it. The ranger readied an action to hit whatever came out when the lid finally broke open. When the lid broke, out jumped the undead occupant. Surprise round. Initiative rolled. Ranger didn't have to roll initiative as technically he had a triggered action and that rearranged his initiative to right before the creature. Ranger went first. Creature got it's surprise round action. End of Round, beginning of normal combat in normal iniative with ranger going just before the creature.
If the triggered action happens after a hidden or invisible creature surprise attacks, then the character's initiative would shift to just after the hidden or invisible creature.
I understand you wanting to keep this simple (trust me, I really do understand). I'm OK with it either way (not sure if I would have cast daze on a bunch of floating eyes). PbP is tough enough to DM without the added wrenches that players often throw into your plans.
Torrag Grimm |
I totally understand. There's always that point you need to draw a line in the sand so the players don't walk all over you. Best to draw that line early then late.

The wording for Acid Cloud is a little clunky. I had checked the forums before, and there was only one interpretation of it and that was as we played it this time. Damage when cast, can freely move out of it on their turn, entering or remaining does damage again. Let me know how you want to play this moving forward. Maybe I'll post on the forums see if I can get some other perspectives.

Heya all i'm away on holiday from the 2nd to the 7th of April (probably 1st to the 6th for those of you in USA), i'll have limited posting ability. As in i may have nowhere to charge my phone. I can be botted if needs be.
If we don't finish before then.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Since there's not much left for you guys to investigate on this level feel free to roll dayjob checks if you have them (or let me know that you don't have one).
I'll be running the next level if you guys are interested since I'm almost finished with playing it myself via pbp. So please let me know if you are in and we'll continue when we finished this one and you guys have leveled.
Torrag Grimm |
I'd like to continue.
