Matamah begins his buff routine and 42 starts blinking. Rhon moves up whilst Earl and Itamar hang back for the moment. Rand on the other hand has no qualms about charging straight into the midst of the enemy with a flying-kick assault followed by a flurry of attacks that somewhat disperses the spectral figure's ghostly form. However, Rand almost immediately finds himself the target of a counter attack as all 4 figures move to attack him!
attack roll: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34

The larger shadowy shapes flail ineffectively at the elusive monk, but the the spectral figure plunges a ghostly arm deep into Rand's chest. Rand please make a fort save

Partial update. I still need Rand's actions to proceed.
Alden and Matamah move up to support their allies in their respective ways. 42 also moves up to attack, but is momentarily shaken by the sight of the looming shadowy monsters and misses his strike. Rhon also moves up to get closer to the action, but Earl hangs back a little to cover the rear.

Rand steps to the North to engage the larger opponent, swinging furiously and connecting with almost every attack, though his fists don't have quite the effect they would normally have against flesh and bone. Meanwhile, Itamar continues to watch the rear.
The two shadowy creatures near Rand continue to attack him while the other shadowy creature and the ghostly creature turn their attention on 42.
attack roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
confirmation roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

The creatures change in tactics prove effective. Rand is struck by one of the shadowy creatures while 42 is touched by another as well as the smaller ghostly creature. The damage dealt is light, but their touches also pull at the Pathfinders' life forces.

Subject - 42 |
Was high or low miss? One of those two attacks should have missed me.
Feeling the drain and damage from the last attack, 42 uses his pearl and brings back shocking grasp. Casting on the defense he attempts to damage these foes.
Concentration: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28
K.Gt.Scimitar: 1d20 + 12 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 12 + 4 = 28 damage: 1d6 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 4 = 16 Shocking Grasp: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 2, 1) = 17
FiddlersGreen |
I always do low miss since it's a miss-chance, not a hit-chance. To me 50% miss-chance means a miss on a 1-50. But there are two ways to negate part of the miss chance from blink, and they have at least one of them.
For future reference, using a pearl of power is usually a standard action, so you should use it out of combat next time. I'll ignore that for this fight.
42 cuts into the shadowy creature and sends a jolt of electricity through his blade at the same time. The blade seems fare better cutting into the creature than the jolt in shocking it, but both serve to wear down the creature.
Rhon attempts to move up to join the fight, but in doing so leaves himself open to attacks of opportunity from not only the ghostly creature, but all 3 of the shadowy ones as well! Fortunately, Alden is at hand to help.
attack roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
attack roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
attack roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
attack roll: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
With Alden's handy assistance, Rhon is able to avoid all the attacks of opportunity, and moves up to cut down W1 with his enchanted axe. W1 dissolves into ribbons of shadow as it screams noiselessly in anger.

Now waiting on Rand (and Itamar if he wants to come out of delay).
Rand, The Iron Fist |
Rand will take a 5' step and beat on the one until it drops, then use any remaining attacks on the other one that I am adj. to.
Flurry of Blows (including ki point for extra attack): 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (19) + 25 = 441d20 + 25 ⇒ (4) + 25 = 291d20 + 25 ⇒ (20) + 25 = 451d20 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 = 281d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
Damage Rolls: 2d8 + 12 ⇒ (2, 5) + 12 = 192d8 + 12 ⇒ (2, 3) + 12 = 172d8 + 12 ⇒ (2, 2) + 12 = 162d8 + 12 ⇒ (5, 4) + 12 = 212d8 + 12 ⇒ (1, 8) + 12 = 21
9, 8, 8/19, 10, 10
Confirmation Roll: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (3) + 25 = 28
Critical damage: 2d8 + 12 ⇒ (6, 4) + 12 = 22
FiddlersGreen |
Rand's first attack disperses the ghostly figure, and his subsequent attacks leave the shadowy monster severely weakened.
Roaring with silent rage, the remaining shadowy monsters attack.
attack roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
attack roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 32
Rand evades his attacker easily, and thanks to Alden, 42 also escapes unscathed.
I'll call it here.

Silver Crusader Rhon Delver |
"Does anyone have a way to assist 42?"
"As for what to do next, I suggest we go see what lies beyond the curtain just South of us."
Itamar |
I'm pretty much tapped out
Subject - 42 |
42 pauses, "Yeah, i think we are all almost tapped out of spells. I have one that can aid me for several minutes.... but as for the long term.. i'll have to get healed up sometime later.
FiddlersGreen |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Ok, with the reroll, 42 makes his save. Keeping in mind your diminishing resources, how do you wish to proceed? Rhon is proposing looking beyond the curtain, which based on the map probably contains one more room.
Do also keep in mind that you can only regain spells and per day abilities once every 24 hours, and that you started this day early so it's probably before still early morning right now.
Status update:

A few hints/reminders:
1. This is effectively a module, so you do not get less gold for bypassing encounters and not finding loot, but you DO need to achieve the objectives to complete the module.
2. Your objective here is to find and retrieve O-Sayumi, preferably alive and healthy.
3. You are in the sanctum of a powerful wizard and have left a scene of carnage just outside (in the mansion of the same wizard). You should keep that in mind if you are considering leaving for 24 hours to rest up.
4. Details are sometimes given to players to set the scene or give some backstory, but sometimes they also provide hints as to how to approach a later encounter. Some of the information you have uncovered thus far might actually be useful! ;)
5. It might also be a good idea to discuss what the purpose of this dungeon is.
Itamar |
Ok then, If 42's re-roll is not enough, Itamar will use his Pearl of power to recall Lesser Restoration
Lesser Res: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Itamar will use his Door Sight ability to look through the curtain, unless it happens to be over 18" thick
FiddlersGreen |
Itamar places his hand on the curtain and uses his domain ability to see through it. It appears that beyond the curtain is simply a bare square room much like the one you came from, but without any further passageway. There do not appear to be any creatures in that room, but you remember that at an earlier room, Earl had sensed nothing behind a curtain, only to see four tenebrous worms appear once he drew the curtain aside.
Subject - 42 |
Once Itamar relays the details of the next area, 42 will say "Leave it closed... Didn't we see a passage a while back?"
Rand, The Iron Fist |
"We have this room here, and then I think everything else is gates."
Itamar |
Let's head back to the nearest gate, this room is empty
Matamah the Thundering |
Agreed. No reason to fight here for no purpose.
Alden Helpinghand |
Alden follows his friends, always vigilant for dangers that may befall them.
