Zephyr only had 1 hp left? Careful!
GM: am I able to try again? And if so, with UMD? Or do we have to succeed more then once, with different skills?
going to assume one can keep trying...
"I told you, very dangerous!" Octaris says, not quite able keeping the smug satisfaction out of his voice.
"Clearly, this is not an ordinary tear!" He adds, trying to look like he knows what he's talking about, once more.
"It takes centuries of training to master the arcane knowledge required to seal a rift this size!" He adds, nodding sagely. "Luckily for you, I have just such training!"
He waves his fingers, and says some more arcane phrases, as he studies the thing a moment.
"Ah ha..." He exclaims, as if spotting something new with his 'magic senses'. "Of course... the residual ocular turbulence was masking the planar eddies coming from the port vortex."
"I should be able to curb it with a variation of the ... uh... Saltstraumen Mantras. Very advanced magic." He fakes a concerned frown. "Even for me."
He waves the others back, and goes back to work. Flitting about, first on one side, then another, seeming at random, keeping up a long, high pitched hum, the entire time... that sounds more like drowning cats then any sort of magical mantra.
hey now, water mephit music probably sounds pretty awful out of water =)
UMD Perform (magical chicanery): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26
After a while, if the rift still hasn't subsided, he will pretend that was expected.
"The mantra is only to weaken the gravitronic bonds." He explains, as if such were obvious. "Now the hard part begins!"
Once more, he starts spouting phrases and words in what seems like a half dozen different languages, none of which are familiar to anyone. All the while, flying about the rift, and waving his fingers in important-looking ways.
Hey, his Tongues spell is still active, so we'll dip into the obscure end of the language pool and pretend its important magical stuff!
UMD Spellcraftiness: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31
As long as it continues to have some effect, and the rift continues to not fully close, he will keep up his act, each time going through different equally strange machinations to keep the ruse alive!
Next he has Rhyol use the intense heat of her hide to burn strange symbols into the floor that he traces there first with a small etching knife. As she finishes each one to his satisfaction, he drops a deluge of water on it, sending small gouts of steam to rising up into the rift itself.
UMD Knowledge (faux esoterica): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30
At one point, he simply stares at it for a minute or two, holding out one hand with only his index and pinkie finger extended, rocking it back and forth.
UMD Profession (rift wrangler): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33
Clearly, he is a master of all things magical!
And in case you want one: Bluff: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
Sorry, was kinda fun making up stuff, got a bit carried away =)
GM Silbeg |
you absolutely can try again!
i Dont have time for the final wrap up, but... Octaris manages to do it all!
Rhyol 'Volcano' the Thoqqua |
Rhyol nudges the water mephit after he is finished sealing the rift. "I knew that mephits were wise, but you have proven yourself to be smarter and more resourceful than even I had ever imagined. Very well done, master Octaris."
Well done indeed! Nice job everyone! I was a bit worried there when Volcano got confused - but fortunately she didn't hurt anyone but herself for that round. :)
Ember the micro-dragon |
Ember breathes a fiery sigh of relief. "Was getting a little worried there... Good work, everyone!"
Knowledge(planes): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
GM Silbeg |
As the mephit messes with the portal, the winds start swirling inward. Finally, the portal closes with an anticlimactic "pop". The cyclone collapses, releasing a sound reminiscent of a loud sigh. Only the hole where the upper floors of the towers once stood lasts as a testament to the planar intrusion that once threatened.
Almost immediately the prevailing winds appear to calm down, and the team can make their way to the skiff, and find their way back to their ship without any trouble. The flight back is smooth and without incident.
As you get back to Armun Kelisk, word has already arrived that the formerly dangerous region of sky has calmed down. You are greeted at the docks by captains and longshoremen asking about what you saw out there.
Chance to talk to them, if you wish
Ashasar quickly tracks you down, and says, “I knew I could count on your team to handle this dangerous task. Congratulations on a job well done. How did your mission go?”
Rhyol 'Volcano' the Thoqqua |
Rhyol moves carefully along the docks, making certain she doesn't burn up any of the ships lashed to the moorings (or whatever serves as such in this strange plane). The thoqqua shudders, perhaps conveying a shrug. "The usual. A ruined tower, magical crystals that exploded with electricity before creating a massive portal, a green-scaled dragon thing with curled horns. That was the only worthy foe I encountered. Though it used magic to cheat me of a proper victory. Hmph. At least Octaris was there to close the portal and stop it from doing any further harm. In all, a moderately satisfying adventure."
But seriously, I enjoyed this one - especially for the unique environment and the epic final battle. And playing these elemental monsters was a lot of fun too. Thanks for picking up the game halfway through and seeing us to the end, GM Silbeg!
GM Silbeg |
The only thing I regret is not picking the table up when HMM asked me the first time. My load was higher than I like to be at, but when a second GM abandoned you, I couldn't say "no" again. I am glad it all worked out in the end.
"So, what did you find in the ruined tower? Please, tell me about that in more detail!" says Ashasar.
PREGEN - PFS - |
Zephir, is quite happy to have resolve this disturbance on his new home plane, and more, having found proof of the existence of the good elemental lord as well as his name...
Looking with a smile at Ashasar, he says We found a lot of things, It was an old Palace, dating from thousands of years. He seems like an outsider of the maelstrom open a gate to his plane with the result of changes in the current of the plane.
But more importantly we found proof that Hshurha is not the only elemental lord of Air, a being named Ranjinori was also at her side.
The palace was own by one of his chosen who take his name.
GM Silbeg |
"Interesting. Did you learn anything more about Ranganori? There could be a connection with what happened!"
Rhyol, did you want to make a good impression on him? If so, maybe a diplomacy check is in order.
PREGEN - PFS - |
We don't have learn much, but we took what was inside the library we found inside. As for what we know this is all... Zephir talk about all what he learned about Ranginori from the books and from the two murals near the entrance.
Rhyol 'Volcano' the Thoqqua |
Since Rhyol is trying to get others to view her with respect using words instead of raw power, sure let's try a Diplomacy check. Not my strong suit, but you never know...
Diplomacy Check DRR: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
And hey, I guess that's why you roll the dice to do the unlikely! :)
Ember the micro-dragon |
"It was a tale to be told in stories! I shall begin writing an epic poem at once about it: The valiant sailing of the airship, only to be destroyed in a titanic convulsion of the air! The clever way the approaching wyrds were recruited into retrieving the scattered gear as a game! The discovery of the tower, and the divining of the secrets hidden therein, and finally the headlong dive into the Maelstrom Rift to defeat and send fleeing the creature of chaos at its heart!"
GM Silbeg |
Ashasar thanks the team for investigating the trouble, closing the portal, and conclusively resolving the threat. Without the portal, he believes that the Rift Spinner won't be an issue, at least for the time being.
Primary Succes
You defeated the Rift Spinner, so you get your first PP. (Driving it off counts as defeating)[/ooc]
Secondary Successes (by character).
Note: A few required me to scroll back through the entire thread just be be sure. But, if you have evidence that my interpretation is wrong, please present it with links to the posts! I'd like you all to get both PP, but, unfortunately, it isn't happening.
Also, the secondary missions are not all equal. Some are way easier to complete than others. I apologize for that, but this is why I pointed out your missions when I first started, to remind you of them.
You needed to tell tales, create stories, 3 times, typically after each of the major encounters. You needed to show me that you were doing this... so if you did, please do link these in, and then make an applicable perform check for each.
Otherwise, you have failed your secondary mission.
You get your secondary success for the team successfully closing the rift!
You needed to plant the divination sensors in at least two places during the scenario without being noticed. You did not do this (if you did, please reply with a link to the post where you planted a sensor), so did not receive your secondary success.
You needed to use your UMD skill to solve two challenges throughout the scenario. You did use it to close the rift, but I cannot see any other time other than activating wands and the like.
Unless you can find one, you did not succeed at your secondary mission.
You needed to succeed at a DC15 Diplomacy check at any time, to gain respect. You did so at the end!
You get your secondary success.
You needed to discover the connection between Ragninori and the tower, which you did.
You get your secondary success.
Chronicles will be posted as soon as everyone has given me their reporting information.
GM Silbeg |
You could have used UMD to impress Nix (the gnome pilot) to show technical acumen in being temporary crew in her ship.
You could have used UMD to disable the crystals in the tower.
You could have used UMD to free a Wysp from the Rift Spinner's influence (this one is not very obvious, I admit).
Plus, the closing the rift.
The key was you needed to show of your magical acumen. You did a great job of bluffing and pretending, but this was the actual success condition.
Sorry.
VileLackey |
We actually hired Nix, and the GM gave us only knowledge options
I noticed the crystals too late, that was my fault, I admit.
Influencing the wisps? Really, how would one even think you could do that (much less do that with UMD) without a clue from the Gm? I at least tried talking to one of them, but even that didn't lead to a clue that influencing them was possible!
So, in the end, I was only given 2 chances, and had to get both or fail.
Bah!
I'm not bitter =)
GM Silbeg |
** spoiler omitted **
The first skill to convince Nix to take the PCs on board requires either a DC 20 Knowledge (arcana, geography, or engineering) or 20 Use Magic Device check to demonstrate technical acumen as temporary crew members, or a DC 30 Diplomacy check to convince her
of the PCs’ worth otherwise.
Go ahead and make a roll, as I am sure you would have.
As for the Wysps, your teammates knew that they were being influenced by the Rift Spinner, from this post, but no one said anything. And no one tried to really interact or influence them. Had they, I would have dropped more information.
VileLackey |
re: the wysps
And no one tried to really interact or influence them. Had they, I would have dropped more information.
Octaris tried! I just assumed I failed to be properly diplomatic, or it wasn't possible at all when there was no response.
(Though to be honest, I think he would have shot the fire wisp anyway... stupid fire!)
Rhyol 'Volcano' the Thoqqua |
Nice! And thank you for that final nudge, GM Silbeg. :)
Ember the micro-dragon |
Alright... having to do it over the course of the scenario, instead of at the end, was not clear to me. It said "compose the tale along the way" but that doesn't mean "perform along the way" as far as I'm reading it. If I were at a table I would have taken notes, written a poem or something during other people's turns. Ah well.
GM Silbeg |
If you have a poem, etc., to present, go ahead. But, I need the finished story! If you can do that, and make the requisite perform checks, I can reissue your chron.
Ember the micro-dragon |
No worries, I need to get working on my own games for the Outpost event. I am OK with 1 PP every once in a while.
