Searlas Savy |
Searlas looks over at Ti-Jean, and begins speaking to the remaining assailant in a calm, clean, articulate tone. "It appears that these folks were under the mistaken belief that we were responsible for the death of this poor merchant. It also appears that rather than verify these beliefs, they chose to make an unprovoked attack on us which is certainly an action that could land them in some serious trouble with the local authorities. Perhaps a little cooperation could help put this misunderstanding to rest?"
Take 10 on orator check (linguistics in place of diplomacy to improve attitude). 10+12=22
Azuk Mal |
Looking up at his companions, Azuk admits, "I'm... not from around here. Does that name mean anything to the rest of you?"
Searlas Savy |
knowledge (local): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Does it ring a bell to me?
Searlas Savy |
"I'm familiar with the name. We aren't from around here as you can probably tell, but as soon as our business is concluded I think everyone will be much happier. Including my head. Especially my head..."
Searlas rubs a sore spot on the back of his head muttering in dwarven.
He looks around, then considers this situation and continues.
"Do you have any more information on this job you took? I wonder if the Ardoc's were given a bad tip."
Azuk Mal |
"Well, we've never been here before and had never met this person." He gestures to Warden and adds, "But don't take my word for it. This damn robot never lies. Hey, lugnut, did we have anything to do with this?"
Warden swivels at the waist to address the remaining assailant. "OF THE MANY CRIMES COMMITTED BY PRISONER 2048, THIS PARTICULAR MURDER IS NOT ONE OF THEM."
Rolling his eyes, Azuk says, "Thanks, that's enough out of you."
Azuk Mal |
"We heard they're building a Pathfinder lodge nearby. Only thing is, no such lodge has been approved, so someone's impersonating a Pathfinder and we need to figure out who and why. Now, if you don't mind, we have to give this place a proper search."
Azuk Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Warden Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Rats, I was hoping for a third double twenty! :)
Searlas Savy |
Searlas gives a concerned look.
"Get rid of the bodies? Loot the place? When did your contact say they would be back here? With actions like that I'm beginning to suspect that your job was to eliminate us and either you or your contact were duped into thinking we were suspects. In fact, I would not be at all surprised if the same people were also responsible for the murder of Collgardie. If someone is planning to return to ransack the place we should certainly make sure we are prepared for their arrival. What is your name anyhow?"
Searlas keeps a careful eye on his expression while speaking. Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Also, I second Ti-Jean's notion of take 20 to search
Searlas Savy |
While the rest of the party searches the building thoroughly (takes 20) Searlas grabs a stack of paper and a writing implement from Colgiarde's office. "I wonder if confronting Ardoc would resolve our mission?"
Searlas closes his eyes and begins scribbling furiously for the first hour of the search.
Linguistics (automatic writing): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
If taking 20 on the search takes much less than an hour feel free to interrupt me
Searlas Savy |
That's the automatic writing skill unlock from occult adventures. Assuming I'm giving time to finish, that roll will be as the Augury spell with a 90% chance of good info. If I finish, roll the percentile in secret. You can even use real physical dice!
Azuk Mal |
Standing in front of his giant robot companion, Azuk glares down at their captive. "When we're done here, you're going to take us to your boss, got it? As long as you're both helpful, we'll be on the same side, but if we get the feeling you're not being straight with us..." He lets the thought trail off, allowing the rogue to fill in the rest with her imagination.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Searlas Savy |
Eyes glowing... Searlas keeps scribbling while muttering to himself...
Searlas Savy |
The muttering and scribbling continues...
Azuk Mal |
Azuk raises an eyebrow at Searlas' frantic scribbling and sighs. "Okay, this is a dead end. Maybe we should investigate the site of this supposed Pathfinder lodge and figure out who's responsible for setting it up."
Searlas Savy |
I'll assume at this point that an hour has elapsed.
Searlas starts flipping through is small stack of pages and nods thoughtfully at their contents. "Hmm, very interesting... according to these notes, the act of tracking down and confronting Ardoc would be um... hmm..."
The notes work as Augury with a 90% chance of meaningful reply.
Searlas Savy |
Can I make the knowledge check before resting? I have spells to burn.
Searlas Savy |
Using Inspired to roll twice pick better
Knowledge (local) + Burst of Insight Roll 1: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20
Knowledge (local) + Burst of Insight Roll 2: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30
Searlas Savy |
"You know guys... all of these cities are more or less the same when you get right down to it. For now though... it's late, we've had a long day of travel to get here. We should probably take the time to bury our poor friend here and get some rest before tracking down this Ardoc."
Azuk Mal |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Azuk proves to be just as bad with strangers as he is with traveling companions.
Harison Jones |
"I agree. A fresh mind is needed for our investigations tomorrow." he says absently brushing imaginary dirt off of his hat

Searlas Savy |
"I suppose we could stay the here in Collgardie's home for the night. Tomorrow though, we have tough work ahead of us."
Since I already made knowledge (local) can I use Aid Another the next morning on someone's Diplomacy (Gather Information) check? If so, here's the roll...
Aid Another (Diplomacy): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
Harison Jones |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
-Posted with Wayfinder
Searlas Savy |
"If you all give me a moment to search into the deep recesses of my mind, I can probably give you all a few places of interest to begin your search"
Searlas's eyes roll back exposing only the whites. He clutches his head for a moment...
I'll burn 1 use of Burst of Insight on Knowledge (local) and take 10 for a total of 26.
...and then begins rattling off a short list of disreputable locales to start our investigation at.
"Ti-Jean, mind if I tag along with you? I may come across as well spoken, but not the best at actually getting information. My knowledge may prove useful to you though."
My 3rd check will be the aid another roll from earlier. It will give a +2 aid another bonus to Ti-Jean's next diplomacy check.
Searlas Savy |
Searlas puts on a pair of smoke colored goggles, and rubs his head yet again. "If anyone out on the road is deceitful towards us hopefully these will help. One of these days I need to find a trick that doesn't give me a headache.
The goggles give me a penalty to perception for the next 10 minutes as I adjust to them, but as soon as I take them off (assuming I wore them for at least 10 minutes) I can use Perception to read someone's aura at a bonus.

After Hours: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 5) = 12 half the day of walking around you find some things out about.
“I hear that Besel can’t make it through a day without a pint or six of whatever grog the pub he’s in is selling. I don’t know what those Ardocs are involved in, and I don’t even want to—whenever someone tells me what they’re up to, I realize again that I’d probably drink myself stupid three times a day if I were one of them.”
“Those Ardocs aren’t stupid. They run the best golem-making factory since Thassilon, and when you run something like that, you have an obvious source of guards. I ain’t never seen Besel without at least six of those iron things stomping around behind him. If you’re trying to find him and put a hurt on him, you best change your mind, friend.”
“Oh yeah, I seen Besel drinkin’ in Downmarket a bunch— had a few pints with him m’self. It’s probably because of those pints that I can’t recall the name of the pub where I last saw him.”
“Down by that disgusting troll Augur temple—called Augur’s Entrails, I think. There’s a troll on the sign pullin’ his own damn entrails out on the sign. You won’t catch me drinking there, but I saw Besel and his iron monsters there this morning.”
“I was in the Augur’s Entrails over in Downmarket this morning and heard Besel say he’d be back there again tomorrow morning for something. That’s probably your best bet for finding him, friend.”
