Pethwen |
Pethwen raises an eyebrow as she finds herself agreeing with Shazzara completely and then breaks into a winning smile as she prepares to head to the docks.

GM - Mark Garringer |
"Excellent! I look forward to further word of your success!" Lady Darchana says excitedly. Saying their goodbyes to Lady Darchana the Pathfinders leave the study heading back to the front door. On the way out Lady Darchana calls after Shang Li, "Stay a moment if you don't mind."
“You have impressed me Shang Li. I have spoken at length with one Lady Gloriana Morilla, who has demonstrated considerable ambition in Absalom and abroad. Among her strengths is her dedicated and talented corps of agents whose virtues she has praised at length. I have had few opportunities to see these agents in action, but consider me tentatively impressed. I would request a favor while you are at the Harbormaster’s Grange, and I trust you might complete it for me with discretion as a sign of good faith between your patron and us. Find and remove the docking certificate for the At Sea, then destroy it when you have the chance. It is perhaps not the easiest of feats, but you have proven your resourcefulness.”
Leaving Madinani Estate the Pathfinders make their way to the Harbormaster’s Grange. It has been an eventful day going back and forth across Absalom, now as they head to the Docks, the Pathfinders see the sun sinking lower toward the western horizon as it will soon set for another day.
The Inspection and Pilots’ Office of the Harbormaster’s Grange is cramped and perfumed by a particularly smelly bowl of salted fish stew that’s cooling on one of its several desks. Ledgers and loose papers occupy most of the horizontal surfaces in the office, and a bookshelf on the southern wall sags under the weight of heavy files.
At present only one inspector is on duty. The sleepy-looking halfling woman sits up, covers a yawn, and says, “Welcome to the Harbormaster’s Grange. I’m Inspector Second Class Lilia Ginsi. How may I be of service?”
Shazzara Grymholdt |
Greetings Harbormaster, we have a missive from the Lady Darchana explaining out current business. I you could be so kind as to assist us, I would be most grateful. explains Shazzara as she presents the letter from Lady Darchana.
GM - Mark Garringer |
Inspector Ginsi is happy to help after reading Lady Darchana’s request. It takes her only a few minutes after reading the request to confirm the pending docking request for the Kat Season in her ledger. "Nope, it doesn't look like they've docked yet, they are still at sea." She then takes a different ledger out, locates and sign out a rowboat, and finally several minutes later locates the pilot roster. After looking over the pilot rosters, she excuses herself to notify a pilot to prepare for departure, leaving the Pathfinders alone in the empty office.
Samuel Deland |
Samuel glances at the other Pathfinders.
"Should we take this time to search his office?"
Well aware of his limitations, the Andoran awaits someone more capable of searching and assists them.

"It is possible the inspector is in league with the slavers, hence her sudden departure?"
I know it's alittle retroactive, but Samuel will attempt a Sense Motive to see if the inspectors behaviour seemed suspicious?

Assuming Kujo and Shang got hte same speech at the same time...
Kujo motions Shang Li over to him and hands the man the docking certificate so that the others can't see what he is giving the man.
Samuel Deland |
Samuel eventually gives up his search and prepares for the harbour masters return.

The door opens again after about five minutes and Inspector Gilsi enters, all smiles. She says they have a pilot waiting at Docking Slip 49, a dwarf named Zigil. "She's a hoot and a half! You'll love her!" Ginsi offers.
The Pathfinders quickly head to their assigned slip, as the sun slips down near the western horizon. Checking the knots tied in a rope attached to a rowboat, a female dwarf stands with her back to you. As you approach she turns, looking over her shoulder. Zigil grunts a greeting as you arrive a the small rowboat. "You row, I navigate." she says curtly. "Ready when you are."
Go ahead with any planning etc you wish to do before heading out to the Kat Season. Let me know when you are ready.
Samuel Deland |
Samuel clambers into the boat.
"If these individuals are pirates or slavers, I see no reason for a diplomatic approach. They only understand a show of force. I suggest we board ready for trouble and give them no quarter unless they surrender immediately."

As you make your way across the harbor, the sun dips below the horizon completely.
As Lady Darchana eluded to, any ship that carries more than six people or 500 pounds of cargo cannot, by law, sail through the Ship Graveyard except under the guidance of a registered member of the Pilot’s Guild. Regardless of its own captain or pilot’s skill, a specially trained pilot travels out from the Harbormaster’s Grange to a waiting ship once it has signaled. This pilot then directs the ship through the ever-changing maze of wrecks that constitutes the Ship Graveyard.
Absalom’s harbor is an inky, shifting landscape of shadows at night, illuminated only by the city’s lights, the waxing moon, and the distant blaze of the Absalom Lighthouse on Pilot’s Island. Eventually, a three-masted ship with white sails comes into view. It’s just over one hundred feet in length, and its bowsprit is a weatherworn representation of a canine-headed mermaid. The crew is busy as they await an escort through the Ship’s Graveyard. A rope ladder hangs from the rail of its starboard to a foot above the waterline.
DC 10 Climb to get up the ladder.
Anything you want to do now 'before you arrive' or 'as you arrive' etc would be appropriate.

Kujo and Samuel notice nothing hostile as they approach, but there is movement on the deck. As you get close enough to identify the ship and climb the ladder you can no longer directly see the deck.
As the rowboat approaches, the ugly, tusked face of a half-orc peers down at you. "'Bout time," he says. He turns back toward the deck and bellows "Pilot's 'ere!"
Updated with a map and a crude rope ladder and rowboat :)
Samuel Deland |
Samuel clambers onto the rope ladder, pulling himself onto the deck. Attempting to buy time for the others, the soldier nods at the crew, using his shield to cover his Andoran heraldry.
"Sorry for the late arrival. We had to ensure the pilot had an escort, these waters aren't safe lately."
Knowing he lacks a silver tongue, Samuel masks his deceit in a half truth.
Kujo, the Slayer |
Kujo follows Samuel up the rope ladder and puts himself in a position to flank the closest potential adversary. The barbarian stretches his neck from side to side as if he's getting lose for something physical.
Man, those are some ugly NPCs tokens.
GM - Mark Garringer |
The half-orc points at Samuel, "You da pilot?" and then turns and points to Kujo "Or you da pilot? Need da get dis tub underway bub. Lezgo."

The man on the quarterdeck says, "Get him up there then!"
Kujo notices nothing else of note, but let me set the scene better...my bad.
Half-orc is wearing a heavy looking breastplate, and has a heavy mace at this hip and a greatsword on his back.
The gnolls are engaged in some knot untying business and seem preoccupied with that.
The man on the quarterdeck is carrying a battleaxe, wearing chainmail and has an adventurer's sash across his chest.
Pethwen |
With herself and the other female member of the party clearly not taking the role of the pilot now that 'he' had been referred to as being of masculine gender, Pethwen gives Shang Li a smile and a shrug as if to say "Good Luck!" and quickly heads up the ladder herself.
"The pilot's right behind me, we really are sorry we're late. You really have quite an impressive boat, I must say!"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Pethwen gives the half-orc a warm smile as she moves a little down the length of the boat to leave room for the others to board.
Pethwen will move to the space 5' NW of Samuel if that's alright.
GM - Mark Garringer |
The half-orc points at Kujo and says, "If you aint da pilot," then points to Samuel, "an you aint da pilot," then finally points at Pethwen "an you aint no Go-rum pilot, den get off da boat!" he gives a little mock curtsy to Pethwen, "Please."
With the half-orc raising his voice, the gnolls seem to take a bit more interest in what's going on over there.
Samuel Deland |
Realising that their ruse has run it's course, Samuel draws his sword.
"I'm afraid that isn't going to happen. Now release the slaves and this doesn't have to turn... unpleasant."

As she does so she calls out with her incredible voice so loudly that it sounds as if her words shout out from the heavens. "Friends, the time has come to prove our courage and honour through our actions and the points of our weapons. Fight with joy and conviction knowing that evil will never prevail as long as but one of us retains the love of life and desire for freedom and justice in our still beating hearts!"
