Perfect.. Thanks all! Looks like we have a pretty martial group. 2 fighters, 2 rangers, a rogue and a cleric with a pretty unique build.
For those who don't know, anyone can post anything in the Discussion tab. It's pretty much meant for out of character chat, if you have any questions, want to form a strategy during a battle -- anything goes.
Gameplay is typically reserved for in character posts, but you can use ooc tags to add something out of character with your post if you need to.
I will likely have the introductory gameplay post up tomorrow morning, earlier if I get some time tonight.
GM Red |
Haha, it just might be!
I've loved your introductions so far. You sure some of you haven't played PbP before? ;)
Konner Therinor |
just made a small change in gear...dropped morningstar for a light mace and gkt a wand of clw for 2pp...this os Konner's second scenario....if anyone can use the wand go ahead and use it as you want...charges dont mean that much right now. gavent added my gold from last scenario...

Oh, I've used the word quatrefoil before. Fun word, though.
GM Red |
Wow, there are some pretty cool reads on that site, like the gelatinous brain cube.
Dentesila Kilthrin |
Sorry guys - it's my fault, I jinxed us.
My statement above that this must be the DEX'iest party ever, clearly angered the Paizo random number generator. We've rolled three '3's in our first four attack rolls !
Dentesila Kilthrin |
I have a question which I have not been able to see any answer to on the forums. Any of you guys know the answer?
Is there a way to set this up so that I get an email alerting me to someone posting, rather than having to continually manually check the board for progress?
GM Red |
I don't think there's anything that does that, unfortunately. I think refreshing your campaigns' page is the only way to know. =\
On another note, I'm out of town this week so my posting activity will be confined to evenings (eastern).
IrvNation |
So since I am still new to this I'm unsure what the rule is for melee and distance to target. If I'm that far away, how far up can I move to attack? Am I out of range for this turn and should I move up and atk next turn? Or-... how does this work? LOL sorry... Still learning the rules for this. haha
Also, sorry for the late response, busy with work and such.
Cazithiel |
Squares are 5' across. Your move is 20'. That means you can move four squares in a move action. If you want to move more than that, then you'll need a full-round action to move up to double your move, and that will consume your chance to attack this turn.
Unless you charge. Then, you make a double move and attack, and you even get a +2 attack, but your move is restricted to a straight line to your target, and you take a -2 to AC for a round.
(Cazithiel has a move of 40', so expect him to just end up places and act where you might not be able to. He's designed to be a flank granter.)
There. Clear as water, no?
Dentesila Kilthrin |
Regarding diagonals: the first one costs you 5' of your movement to enter, but the second costs you 10', and it alternates after that. This reflects the fact that it's further to travel diagonally.
Rough ground (like we saw at the start with the rubble) costs double to cross. But we don't have that here.
It's free to pass through allies, but you can't pass through enemies. In certain circumstances, they can have a free attack if you move out of a threatened square (the 8 squares adjacent to them). This gets complicated, so I'll stop here.
For you, this turn, I'd assume that you can get through the doorway past Gabriella and motor up to the square adjacent to Dentesila to attack Red (standard move plus attack). You could move up to Green, but you'd need a double move (remember the diagonals) and would therefore lose your attack.
It's great to ask - we all had to learn once!
Dentesila Kilthrin |
Although if I had another suggestion for you, it would be to try in every post you make, to move the game along. Another time, maybe outline what you want to do alongside your question, so enabling the GM to interpret your action for you and keep the action going.
Keeping it moving forward helps maintain momentum which I have read is critical in pbp, especially when there's 6 other people backed up behind you.
Cazithiel |
Hey IrvNation, you've only taken a move action (since you've got a +1 BAB you can move and draw your weapon at the same time). So, you still have a standard action left.
So, you can either take another move to close with Green, or you can ready an action to attack a monster if it comes close enough. I recommend readying the action in this case. If the monsters ignore you, nothing happens, but if they approach, you get to attack one before it attacks you back.
GM Red |
Thanks a lot for helping Irv out, guys. He's one of my friends who decided to give PbP a try for the very first time, and a welcoming community is just the thing that will make him stick around!
So Irv, if you decide to ready an action to attack as Cazithiel says, just post your attack in a spoiler. It'd be your greatsword attack and damage rolls but within spoiler tags, and that attack would go off if the monster came within melee range of you.
Konner Therinor |
also, a good time to use power attack is when the target has a low AC to make uo fir the reduced to hit modifier. oh and always carry a blunt weapon and a dagger....never know when you come across a skeleton or get grappled.
GM Red |
I can comment on that. Gabrielle is actually my wife's character, my somewhat selfish attempt at getting her into PbP.. Unfortunately, she's decided she isn't interested in it and would like to drop out.
I think Caitlyn is still playing/active, it's just that 1) Paizo went down and is no longer showing new post counts in the Campaigns page when refreshing since it came back up, so players don't know that new posts are up without manually checking, and 2) I mentioned I'm away this week so I haven't been updating as much... I'll pick the pace back up on Friday afternoon.
GM Red |
I'm wondering if Door Sight lets you see into a room that is dark. In this case, the skeletons are on fire, so you'd certainly be able to see that, but I'm not sure if it would allow you to see into a dark room otherwise. I'll have to see if I can find anything on the boards.
GM Red |
Given that the Door Sight description says it functions like clairvoyance, and that spell's description states:
If it is naturally pitch black, you can see in a 10-foot radius around the center of the spell’s effect.
It would follow that you'd see a 10 foot radius centered around the door when using the spell if the room is dark. If there's anything emanating light within the room or the room is lit with daylight, you'll see a lot more.
Caitlyn Arciere |
I might have to quit. I'm still in school and things are picking up, with mock exams and more work. Sorry for not contributing much to the play by post, I guess I'm cut out for play by post. If it's any consolation, feel free to use Caitlyn as an NPC to just shoot whatever she needs to shoot. Sorry for the sudden notice.
GM Red |
It's all good, Caitlyn. Take care!
Another player down will bring us down to four, and the end of this adventure can get pretty difficult. If someone would like bot Caitlyn for the remainder of the adventure, feel free, otherwise I'll GMPC her during combat.
AbyssDancer |
Hey Caz - great word, 'Preternatural'. I had to reach for google to understand the difference between un-, preter- and supernatural !

Thanks!
Here's some inspirational music for the upcoming fight.
GM Red |
Ok, map's up with the top floor and enemies on it. Ready for you guys to execute your plan whenever you are.
GM Red |
It'll be minimum caster level, so we're looking at 2 minutes.
AbyssDancer |
So Konner you'll have say 45 seconds (7 rounds) to get into position behind the druid, before we pile up the steps after you. Happy?

GM Red |
You won't get the sneak attack damage unfortunately, splash weapons can't deal precision-based damage. =\
Realizing it's an arcane scroll and that Balenar's a bard, I'll have him read the scroll to start you off.
GM Red |
Caz, might be good to know that if you end your turn in that square, you'll be squeezing since it's half taken up by the throne.
Cazithiel |
Caz, might be good to know that if you end your turn in that square, you'll be squeezing since it's half taken up by the throne.
I'll take the squeeze. Not sure there's any other square I can reach with 40 move.
Dentesila Kilthrin |
Wow. 6d6 is immense. I'd only consider that to be balanced in the case of immense PC bad luck, or immense PC stupidity, or both. This feels arbitrary.
I've been in many ruined castles. I've seen precarious areas of masonry which look like they're about to fall, but probably have looked like that for hundreds of years.
Yet this section of the tower was 2 or 3 people's weight away from sheering off the tower, without any visual clue beforehand? Either that, or the druid deliberately chose to stand somewhere near to collapse, alongside his 300 lbs croc pet?
Very odd.
GM Red |
I don't disagree. The druid likely didn't know about the crumbling stone floor, at least according to the text, there was no way to even notice this hazard even with a perception check. Had it not been PFS, I would probably have excluded it entirely.
On the bright side, Caz made the save (a 15 was what I was looking for) and so you guys ended up escaping with minimal damage. The druid cannot say the same... :)
